Looking for somewhere special to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
My wife and I were not disappointed because as soon as we entered up the stairs you could tell this was hotel worthy of the five star rating.
Receptionist was welcoming and friendly.
You could see how wonderful it was as we were shown to our room. Grand staircase with lovely pictures adorn the walls.
Our room equally did not disappoint. Everything that was needed was there. Plenty of space and great bathroom.
The view from the window overlooking St Peter Port and the sea with Castle Cornet was an added bonus.
Breakfast was of the highest standard.
One lovely touch was as my wife and I had almost finished our breakfast, the restaurant manager came over and congratulated us on our wedding anniversary and offered a glass of champagne.
Our pleasant surprise did not finish there as when we returned to our room the maid had been in and on the bed were red flower petals on towels rolled up into a heart shape.
I cannot praise this hotel and it's staff highly enough.
If you are looking for that somewhere special then this is a place along with St Peter Port to consider.

Booked here for my wife's 50th birthday. Lovely hotel close to the main town. Room was well presented with a great view. We had our evening meals elsewhere but the breakfasts here were wonderful, as was a high tea we had in the grounds. Didn't get chance to use the pool although it did look inviting. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

not the biggest of rooms but excellent bathroom/ shower. Very attentive service at meal times. Unfortunately didn't use the spa or pool. good excuse to go back! the hotel is in a great location as we could to town and sample the resturants around the harbour. We drove around the outside of the island and saw lovely beaches before catching the ferry back home.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights as part of our 30th wedding anniversary celebrations, our first visit to Guernsey. The hotel is conveniently placed just up from the shopping area in St. Peter Port, but approach by car is narrow and unloading a bit tricky. However, they parked the car for me as soon as we had the bags out which was helpful. Andi greeted us and told us we could have an upgrade for the first two nights, to ensure we wouldn't be disturbed by a wedding reception. She also worked some magic and on the third night we had a room with a balcony, upon which we sat and toasted our 30 years and the end of our holiday with a good sparkling wine from room service. Breakfasts were good, with a fair choice at the buffet and tasty cooked options. We ate once in the evening, the food was good but pricey, normally it would have impressed but we had just come from the top Jersey hotel which was sublime. Both rooms we had were clean, well presented and had the facilities expected. Overall, it was a great base from which to explore Guernsey and the staff were warm, welcoming and highly professional.

We had an amazing 4 night stay at this luxurious hotel. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here. It is sheer luxury and it is so tastefully and gracefully decorated. So much attention to detail to make your stay just sublime. The breakfast is just amazing with a wonderful selection made to your specifications. Unfortunately it was too cold to swim but the pool area is just fabulous. It is also in a great location with just a short walk into town and the port. Highly recommended.

We were here for a wedding reception and we can't praise it as a venue too much. The menu was very well balanced. The main course was roast beef and all the timings. It didn't taste like hotel food, but rather more like a roast meal you would cook at home. The jus was delicious and I could have been very greedy with the potatoes, the beef was cooked to perfection. The service was courteous and very helpful. there were no long waits for anything, as there often are at functions of this kind. I would recommend it to anyone about to plan a reception of any kind.

Located in the centre of St Peter Port, friendly staff on welcome arrival, rooms were clean and decor unusual and more of a Period style than modern, rooms were quiet even in the front of the hotel, not much view from front elevation but very acceptable. Beds Comfy although a bit small as used to king size bed normally could be considered a bit cramped. Pool was heated and a nice tempreture this was a bonus on a cloudy day. Breakfast choice was good, fruit cereal, yoghurt, berries as well as usual cooked breakfast and plenty of tea and coffee. St Peter Port is pretty with plenty of restaurants and good shops all in close proximity of the hotel. Beware! the towns streets can be very steep and if you have difficulty walking maybe you should seek advice, I am quite fit so getting around was no problem for me. To sum up great hotel in a excellent location true 5* hotel. I enjoyed my stay here.

My wife and I were in Guernsy for our son's wedding and spent a week at the OGH. Our room was very comfortable, quiet and well appointed. We liked the whole ambience of the hotel, and the service was outstanding. The OGH also organised a pre-wedding reception for our guests, all of whom were very complimentary about the setting and the food. We will definitely return.

First visit here and after a minor hiccup with the room which was sorted very quickly we had a very enjoyable stay here. Our thanks to Marie and her team on the front desk for sorting this with a smile. Our room was spacious, very comfortable and immaculate as was the whole hotel. We had great views over St Peter Port from our balcony which had electric windows! Restaurant meals excellent and a special mention to Ken who was charming and his team who were friendly and efficient. The breakfast also should not be missed. This hotel is and ideal base for exploring Guernsey as only a stones throw from the buses which are an excellent way to tour the island and very cheap, you can go round the whole island for just £1. There are many super places to visit on this lovely island and we will no doubt be back again sometime.

The hotel is great, the staff friendly and the views from our room, when it was clear, lovely. The bedroom was well appointed and so was the bathroom. The only drawback was the size of the kettle whenot making both teams and coffee. All in all a very good experience. One tip if you are driving - go to reception and let them park your car! It is not cheap. We were warned that the was a wedding reception below, but thick curtains blocked out the noise so we werecommend not disturbed.

We've stayed at this hotel on several occasions & on each time they have been very helpful especially in booking restaurants suitable for evening business meetings. The hotel is well situated, just a very short walk into town. The breakfast is superb. My only complaint is they use 2 tea bags to make the earl grey tea which is far too strong, but this is a very minor issue. It's a great place to stay & we will return.

This is a gorgeous hotel on a beautiful island. My room was very small but adequate and beautifully furnished. Dining at the hotel was expensive however Paul, the superb pianist and vocalist, well and truly MADE the experience.

I flipped a coin and the Duke of Richmond lost. Approaching this hostelry without any preconceived ideas was a little daunting. The welcome at reception was friendly and competent. A free upgrade was made available which was very well received as I was feeling under the weather and desperate for a break from the office. The upgrade was not requested but it did make all the difference to me. The duty manager (Andi) displayed a level of competence and customer care which was truly astonishing and way ahead of any previous experience (in other hotels) irrespective of cost. The room was supremely comfortable, the brasserie expertly staffed providing a good menu and wine list and the bars properly stocked. I always use one of the sister hotels in London (The Milestone) and when I visit Guernsey in the future this is the only hotel which I will use.

Stayed for just one night with friends from the USA. The welcome by Ani was excellent and very professional, and we enjoyed the history and tour of the hotel. Both of our rooms were spotless and very comfortable with views of the port. Unfortunately we had to leave the hotel on the Sunday morning for a flight back to the UK at an earlier time than we had hoped so the breakfast service was disappointing. Although the dining room was open from 7.30am the buffet was incomplete and cooked breakfasts were not available until after 8am so our meal was very hurried. The dinner on the previous evening was very good indeed and the service excellent. We would hope to stay again in the near future.

We booked for balcony (sea view) room but when we got there we were upgraded to bigger room (so beautiful and spacious!). All staff are friendly and nothing is too small or difficult for them to satisfy us - as we have also been to the other Red Carnation Hotels - we kind of know the routine but different location different welcome - So much so we will be going there again so see the rest of Islands - Sark etc

Luxury and elegance from top to bottom with extensive outdoor area and well equipped gym. Superb breakfast menu - smoked haddock and poached egg was particularly good.

Limited for business clients by bedroom being ill-equipped for setting up PC.

Stayed for 5 nights . Food and service are very good . However the rooms are VERY VERY small . We were booked into classic rooms so we were not expecting a lot of space but really the rooms can barely accommodate the furniture . The showers are not thermostatically controlled .
Staff are very helpful and facilities are good .

Four of us recently visited the Government House Hotel and it was lovely. We were there to play bridge so spent a lot of time in the lobby, restaurant/bar. Everyone was delightful Everyone was extremely helpful . The staff are very well trained and accommodating and professional. The location is also lovely and the rooms spacious, warm and welcoming. My only regret was not brining my work out gear as the gym is large and state of the art. Would definitely return!

Warm, welcoming arrival from Reception followed by a lovely bedroom which was well appointed and spotless. Restaurant staff friendly and informative about the food on offer which was first class. The food and experience was so pleasant we ate in the restaurant on three occasions. We were not disappointed. Overall we could not fault our stay and the OGH comes highly recommended.

Excellent hotel with exceptional staff throughout. We were made to feel really welcome and completely at home. Great hot breakfast cooked fresh to order and the Curry Room is extremely good for dinner. Cocktails are made with real attention to detail. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

From our arrival to departure we could not have asked for better service. We had ordered a car through the hotel to collect us from the airport, however as our flight was delayed by a couple of hours, the car booked was cancelled. OGH very kindly sent David to collect us and said there would be no charge. We were very warmly welcomed by Andi and her front of house team and were shown round the beautiful hotel and its grounds. As our room was not quite ready, we went to explore St. Peter Port. On our return we were shown to our beautiful King Sea View Room (No 108), which was both spacious and attractive and glorious views over the pool and beautiful seafront. (There is some building work being carried out in front of the hotel which is a shame, but out of the hotel's control). We had been advised that there was a wedding at the hotel on our first night and that there may be some noise. We chose to eat out (pre booked Le Petit Bistro which was busy and bustling and had amazing food). When we returned at around 10pm there was a little noise but nothing to worry about and stopped by 10.30pm. On our second evening we booked the Curry Room - small and cosy restaurant where we were very well looked after by Joseph. Super 3 course menu and we chose to have the wine flight as well. Lovely evening and very relaxing. On our final day my husband unfortunately was ill and so as we had an evening flight, I asked if we could extend our checkout. Although, extremely busy, we were very grateful that they agreed. The helpfulness and flexibility at OGH just made our trip so special and we can highly recommend it as a perfect place to stay and relax. This is our fifth Red Carnation hotel that we have visited - cannot fault them.

We are fans of the Red Carnation Group and OGH did not disappoint. We stayed four nights in a Harbour View with Balcony room (#122) and it was well appointed although surprisingly there is no full length mirror. The enclosed balcony has electrically controlled buttons to open/close the window and mesh net. There are standard light switches and the air conditioning controls are user friendly. The bathroom is a reasonable size with a good shower cubicle. Toiletries are good quality as would be expected and the room was serviced daily to a high standard.
A nice touch is that reception phoned fifteen minutes after we had the room to ask if we were satisfied with the room or if there was anything that we needed.

We had dinner twice in The Brasserie on successive evenings and surprisingly the ‘fish of the day’ was the same each evening (lemon sole). I wouldn’t expect this given the choice of excellent seafood in Guernsey and as some guests seemed to be on half board I would hope this was unusual rather than laziness. The food quality was fine.

We also had a meal in The Curry Room which was excellent and outstanding value at £38 for three courses. Beautifully cooked and served in a delightful and intimate room.

The hotel grounds are lovely and well maintained and the staff uniformly helpful, eager to please and willing to go the extra mile.

The breakfast cold buffet is comprehensive but surprisingly no ham is on offer. Your hot selection is cooked to order.

The hotel has a policy of adding 10% to all meals and beverages bills and when I asked I was told that these monies go to the food and beverages staff only. This is a new one on me and maybe it is now policy throughout Red Carnation Hotels but for me it is confusing and unfair. The hotel does I suspect get a lot of walk ins for drinks and dining and I can see reasoning behind adding a service charge for non-residents but I much prefer that residents be given the option of making their own choice re distributing tips. The system in place seemingly leaves the non food and beverages staff at a disadvantage with housekeeping and reception staff for example not having a share. On checking out a quick run through my final bill showed that I had around £45 added in tips for our food/beverages purchases during our stay and I added a further £100 on the understanding that it would go into the tronc to be shared by all staff. I just thought that the system in place was ‘messy’ and for me the housekeeping lady who services my room is as deserving as the barman serving my drinks.
The staff were faultless throughout but we got to know Daniel well as he always seemed to be on duty wherever we were and our thanks to him and all of his colleagues for making our stay so pleasant and memorable.
