My Mum and I stayed at OGH at the start of June, on our first visit to Guernsey. It was her first holiday in 5 years, for lots of reasons I was hoping it would be a good break for her - and Guernsey is lovely but this brilliant hotel made it a truly wonderful experience for both of us.

OGH is simply the best hotel either of us have ever stayed at. It's located in a quiet little street about 20 mins drive from the airport and a 10 min dawdle down to the marina at St Peter Port. The building is architecturally quirky which makes it look and feel completely unlike the usual hotel experience, with rooms scattered around many little corridors and various charming lounges and side-rooms on the main floor to sit back and relax in. It's fabulously well maintained throughout, the decor is immaculate and everything is spotlessly clean (it doesn't even smell like the average hotel!) We ate a lot in the brasserie and bar - lovely airy rooms, super-fresh ingredients and a kitchen who were happy to put together menu variations on request.

The garden is beautiful and lush with some great views over the harbour and town: the pool was crystal-clear and we loved both swimming in it and lounging about by it (weather was great throughout our stay). We had excellent queen rooms with balconies overlooking the harbour - well worth it, with beautiful sunny views out to Hern and Sark. I slept every night with the balcony door open, and it was so peaceful and restful - even the local seagulls seem too stylish to make a lot of noise!

Everything about OGH was delightful, but the staff are the icing on the cake - they are a superb team. The Red Carnation mantra is all about excellent service, and they embody it perfectly. Everyone was friendly, helpful, efficient and with an unfussy style that made us both feel really relaxed and at-home. They have the knack of making you feel they really are enjoying helping you with anything you might ask for, from specific guides to Guernsey's ancient sights to shifting that terrifyingly heavy parasol base by the pool.

All in all, I could not have hoped for a better holiday for either of us. We loved Guernsey and staying at OGH made our break there just heavenly. I know this sounds gushy but it really was a special place and I want to congratulate OGH and all its lovely people for treating us so well. Our only problem now is planning how soon we can go back!

This was my first visit to Guernsey and I would go again. OGH is in a perfect location if you are in town. The hotel is perfect for service - every single employee is on the same page and goes out of their way to be charming to all the guests which was really impressive. I loved having lunch and a glass of wine in the pretty garden over looking the sea. The pool is small but just fine to sit around and the sun beds are very decent, clean and comfortable. The food was excellent at every meal and just loved the "churns" of sweets you could help yourself too. Some parts of the hotel look fine - some look a bit cluttered and like your Nan's living room. A bit of a clear out and some modern refurbishment to compliment the beautiful old building would be my choice. However overall - I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

The OGH is a fab hotel, very friendly and helpful staff.
The hotel itself is very well kept, clean and the room facilities are very good.
If you have any mobility issues make sure you ask ask for an easily accessible room as there are lots of little stair cases and only one lift.
Over all this is a great hotel and we definitely stay again if we visited Guernsey.

We have just spent 3 nights at OGH and will certainly go back. The hotel is ideally situated close to the centre of town and the ferries across to the islands, yet it is a peaceful oasis. The food in the restaurant was amazing and I don't think I have ever experienced better service. This really is what a hotel should be like.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Old Government House Hotel and enjoyed every minute of it. I cannot remember better service almost anywhere. The staff are all young, enthusiastic and eager to help. A simple call to reception, even for the most outlandish request and there will be a knock on your door in around a minute or less. The bar and gardens are a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the view. There is also a very fine Indian restaurant that makes you feel back in the last days of the Raj. Our favourite though was the bar with a long balcony overlooking the street where you can observe the passers by of this busy town. Our only puzzlement was why the streets were so full of Germans given the history of the island. My brother-in-law claimed it was the bi-product of a flourishing crop of wartime babies, but he is always prone to exaggerate. Anyway, try the OGHH for a most pleasant experience when you want to get away from it all and be treated as a true guest

On a recommendation from a friend my partner and I changed bookings and stayed at the OGH for six nights. The location, sitting above St Peter Port Harbour looking out to sea was delightful, moreover, very convenient for walking around the streets of this old town. The hotel itself suggested times past but in a traditional way never old fashioned. The service throughout the hotel reflected the inherent values of this establishment, smiley, helpful, professional, with just the right touch of the personal. The staff were never intrusive but always there when needed - a difficult balance to achieve. The food, especially the fish was excellent and once again the staff in the restaurant were always 'on the spot '. A special mention to the most charming of receptionists who 'fronted' most of our stay. If you could bottle her approach I do not know many businesses who would not purchase it - a real asset.

If you wish a break away from the stress of modern life and be extremely, extremely well looked after look no further - The very best of stays.

Another fantastic stay at the OGH. Was really the only place to stay for such a special occasion and Andrew and the team didn't let us down. Without exception, nothing is too much trouble and the whole team treated us as if we were the most important guests they had ever had. We took dinner for the 'special day' at the Brasserie and had the most memorable of times. The food was outstanding with staff being attentive without being intrusive. We don't usually like to mention people by name especially when so many were involved in making our stay so special but......Ken, Jozef, Holly, Kristen, Dale, Castil thank you all so much and Paul, the resident pianist and singer (fantastic voice) thanks for the rendition of Dawn's favourite Simply Red track. And lastly but by no means least, huge thanks to Andrew for being in on the surprise and welcoming us back, will see you again soon. Mark & Dawn

Indeed the jewel in the crown of all the hotels I have visited. Excellent Service, good
food and delightful ambiance. It stayed true to the mission statement of the Red Carnation Group's Hotels, of which it is part, "No request is too large, no detail too small.

OGH Hotel and Restaurant turned out to be the perfect "getaway" long weekend for me as a solo traveler. The hotel is historic and charming and very convenient to the sites in attractive setting of St. Peter Port. It was within walking distance to the quay, shopping, restaurants and museums. When I first arrived at the hotel, Jaro, a member of the concierge staff, took me for a tour of the hotel. He made me feel welcomed immediately and I settled in right from the start. I had all my evening meals in the excellent restaurant, where Chris always made sure I had a table with a view! Often as a solo guest, I have been put into dark corners of restaurants, which was certainly not the case here. Ken, also part of the restaurant staff, cooked special dishes at the in-dining room trolley, so I had an amazing Steak Diane and a peach dessert that he prepared right there! Both Ken and Chris were always on top of things to be sure dinner was a treat and a memorable event! Jaro (concierge) had arranged a private taxi tour of the island for me at a set price, but the taxi driver charged me 20 pounds more for the tour. When Jaro learned about the overcharge, he found the taxi driver and had the 20 pounds returned to me. It is clear that the entire staff truly make an effort to ensure that guests enjoy their stay at the OGH Hotel! I had a wonderful time.

Stayed for a week and thoroughly enjoyed it. Let's get the negative bit over with- the standard double room was small as other travellers have said but the room was lovely, classy decor and really comfortable bed. The staff are the best ever, without exception and we were so well looked after. Went the extra mile when we had taxi problems taking us to our booked restaurant and picking us up again later, all with grace and courtesy. Breakfast was very good with every choice you could wish for. Nice pool, good spa, lovely gardens and pool seating. Lovely lounge areas and bar. Minor trauma with our safe malfunctioning quickly and professionally sorted. we will definitely be back.

This is one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed in. Not only is the property beautiful and commanding an excellent position next to St Peters Port, but the service was first rate. I was lucky enough to stay here for a week on a business trip and was given my own residence on the opposite side of the road to the hotel. The residence was extremely spacious and catered for my every need ( an iron and ironing board was provided on request and remained with me all week). The double bed was grand and very comfortable, with my own satellite television box provided in the room. Internet connection was fast and efficient and provided by my own router again in the room. The bathroom was very well equipped with everything I might have needed including nice bath salts for a relaxing soak after a hard day. Under floor heating and very modern classic style finished the look and again gave a very elegant feel. There was more than ample storage for all my clothes, it was like a home away from home! Every morning my desired newspaper was delivered to the door and freshly ground OGH blend coffee was provided for a good strong cup of coffee to wake me up! Breakfast in the dining room was both a self service for continental style and a la carte for cooked. The quality of the produce was excellent and local and to get freshly made hollandaise sauce with my eggs benedict was a welcome surprise. Service from the staff was excellent, they were efficient in getting you seated, taking your order and making sure your breakfast was delivered in a timely manner. I also had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant for an evening meal. Again the service was impeccable and the food outstanding. The fillet of beef with bone marrow jus was one of the best meals I ate that week, and the deconstructed rasberry and rhubarb trifle was both clever and very tasty, my compliments to the chef.
I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel, the staff were amazing, very attentive and professional. My only negative comment would be at the price of the room. Had my company not have been paying, I think the cost for the room would have been too high and would have put me off booking.

Stayed in a suite, overlooking the harbour. Fabulous views. Room was very comfortable and spacious. Enjoyed lovely afternoon tea in the suite. Service was first class. Wonderful setting in conservatory restaurant for dinner on the Saturday evening, and excellent breakfast on Sunday morning. Would definitely return again. Stayed in hotel and dined in restaurant Saturday 7th March 2015.

This is a lovely but not perfect hotel so I'll get the negatives out of the way first. As mentioned by another guest there has not been and was not any TV reception in guest rooms. It may now be there of course. We were not told about this when booking, there was no mention of it on the hotel's website when booking and we were not told on check in.
On check in, £200 is "pre authorised" from your credit card. Even if you have paid for your hotel stay in advance as we did. On check out, even if you spend nothing as we did, this is not cancelled. Or the next day. Or the next.....we are frequent travellers in hotels of this standard on a regular monthly basis for business and this is our first experience of this type of arrangement.
Our room was very small. This was almost the first thing we were told on check in, immediately offered an upgrade, at extra cost to ourselves. The rapidity of this sort of sales pitch is demeaning for a hotel such the OGH and it should cease this practice. It is not professional.
The room was beautifully decorated and clean, just the nowadays seemingly inevitable bits of mould around the bath/shower. It was quiet, windows opened, a/c worked, plenty of towels(too many really in such a small space!), L'Occitane toiletries, gowns and slippers provided. We only ate breakfast in the hotel and this varied but was mainly excellent. The view from the hotel is great, the pool is lovely although very odd that you have to walk through the restaurant to get to it! We didn't need to interact much with staff but when we did they were very helpful. The location is excellent.
We had a fabulous time in Guernsey, the weather was excellent and we would return to the OGH. But they need to sort out the TV situation, the £200 set up and the pushing the bigger room scenario.

My wife and I have recently spent four nights at this hotel and from the time of our arrival to the time of our departure we were treated like VIP's. No exaggeration, we really were. The porters, the receptionists the managers and in fact all the staff who made it their duty to remember our name and address us accordingly. The room was as requested and maintained to the highest standard. The housekeeping was exceptional with evening 'turn downs'. The breakfasts are to a high standard and to suit everyone's pallet. The outdoor heated swimming pool is a must, dependant on the weather, but is often in a sun trap until late afternoon at this time of the year. This hotel definitely gets my vote as it ticked all the boxes.

Just returned from 3 nights at The OGH. The hotel, the staff, the setting and the overall experience was fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble. Staff were extremely attentive without being in your face all the time. Will definetly be returning.

We booked this hotel on the recommendation of a friend and the good reports here. It was not cheap at over £250 a night for our room, but we thought we would give it a try for a four day relaxing break. We checked in OK and were shown to our room. It was about the size of a Premier Inn room, but with a really good bathroom. We were then phoned from reception to say that because of a new mobile phone mast nearby there was no TV reception.

We decided to move hotels as we weren't certain of the weather and wanted the option to watch TV if we wanted to. I was surprised we were not told of the TV problem when we checked in. I was surprised we were not offered help moving to another hotel.

When I have talked to people in Guernsey they say that the hotel has been better run in the past, and one taxi drive told us of £70 cocktails.

The public rooms looked wonderful and the hotel has a good location. I hope they sort their problems out soon.

This hotel has it all!
Old English charm with variety of relaxing areas/bars; excellent staff across all aspects of the hotel (reception, concierge, restaurant and room service); a great restaurant offering superb food and wine selections; lovely pool and garden terrace; and all on the fringe of St Peter Port town centre. Couldn't be better.
Only downside was we had to leave!

Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff at this wonderful hotel. You should be able to expect beautiful, clean rooms; comfortable beds; delightful food and efficient service at this level of quality, and nothing disappointed. What made our stay especially memorable was the friendly, charming, interested and attentive service from absolutely everyone. From Ilse, our hard working, good natured chamber maid, who offered advice on places to see, to old hands and new in the brasserie, we were enchanted.
Treat yourself!

What a wonderful hotel this is! My partner and I stayed at this hotel just the weekend gone by (May 2015) and I could not have asked for a more relaxing break. I am a huge fan of this hotel group and this hotel is simply beautiful, so homely and relaxing. The decor in our room was beautiful and we had a balcony view of the port. The bed linen and towels were luxurious. The location is so convenient and walking distance to the port and shops along quaint cobbled streets. The gardens in the hotel were perfect for sitting out having a drink in the afternoons or else sitting in the library bar when it got a little chilly outside. The staff were wonderful, remembering our favorite drinks. We had afternoon tea which was delicious and I was delighted that they cater for gluten free guests.
We had a couple of hours in the spa having treatments which again was so relaxing. The hotel were more than happy to make dinner reservations for us elsewhere on the island and made all the arrangements to get us there. I could not have asked for a better weekend. Will I be back? without a doubt. I fell in love with this hotel!

We first visited the OGH at Easter 2012 and this was our second visit, again for the Easter weekend. What can you say - it's a great hotel in a convenient location, the staff are really lovely and the rooms are very comfortable. I'd really like to stay in the summer so that we can use the pool. We'll definitely be back sometime!

We also ate twice in the hotel, the meals are delicious in the Brasserie.

We stayed here for two nights. It was recommended by a Guernsey person for the quality & location and it was a good choice for us.

Check-in was quick & friendly, with staff on hand to help us with our bags etc. The hotel is well situated a few minutes walk from St Peter Port's main shopping high street, and within easy reach of all the town's tourist attractions (& probably business offices too, if you are coming for work).

The room was not huge but was very comfortable and nicely furnished. I did consider an upgrade but actually preferred the decor of the smaller rooms (which was a bit more minimalist and less fancy). There was plenty of wardrobe space for a multi-day stay & a dressing table with adequate power supply for laptops etc. The bathroom was a decent size with a good shower as well as a bath. The bed was very comfortable with good-quality bed-linen and plenty of pillows.

We only took breakfast in the hotel so I can't comment on the dinner, but the breakfast was very nice with a good range of choices including traditional 'Full English', kippers and eggs Benedict as well as continental if you don't need a hot meal first thing in the morning, and of course the ubiquitous buffet for the grazers. The full breakfast was about £15 per person if you don't have B&B.

There is a lovely spa which sadly we didn't have a chance to make use of. The swimming pool is out-door but supposedly heated and the terrace looked like a bit of a sun-trap so I think it would be a nice place to swim when the weather warms up a bit.

All the staff went out of their way to be helpful -- to the extent that one of the porters chased us down the street to give us a map he thought we'd find useful!

Would definitely stay here again.

We chose a great sea view room in this characterful hotel. It was large, bright, and felt thoroughly 'special'.

The sea was a few yards away over the town, but certainly visible. And one cannot fault any hotel for where the sea chooses to be.

A great patio area, with a brilliant atmosphere, adjacent to the truly top notch dining area. We didn't get chance to eat there, which owes more to the Island's great choice of eateries rather than the great OGH offering, which looked superb. Brilliant breakfast tho!

Brilliantly designed, with lots of nooks and crannies and a hint of South Africa, this is a great hotel to explore. And the adjoining spa and bad facilities are enviable too,

What is running though is the service level. Every single person is brilliantly recruited. They know the real goal is not doing their job, but ensuring every customer enjoys a gay experience.

I cannot fault this hotel - and would not wish to,
