Our second recent visit after a gap of 25 years, as always fantastic Hotel and staff, they couldn't do enough for us even surprising us with two birthday cakes and cards!! Spa facilities very good indeed, thoroughly enjoyed the "relaxing area". Breakfasts at Hotel were very high standard so bang went the diets for the duration of our stay! Looking forward to return visit.

We had a 2 night break at the OGH. The staff were warm and friendly. They went out of their way to make our stay as special as possible. Ray the head waiter was a fountain of knowledge on the food and wine which were really delicious. The car hire on the Discovery Package was so easy,we just mentioned our name and the car was ready in minutes, a little Ford Ka which was perfect for the narrow roads. The room had a harbour view and a balcony. It was clean and beautifully appointed. We had a picnic lunch one day which was nicely packed, fresh and probably rather too much for the 2 of us. I had a massage in the Spa which was such a treat. The only slight down side was that many of the museums in Guernsey are closed in the winter months, opening at the end of March. The German Occupation Museum was open however and was very informative. The Guernsey people are lovely. Driving is very easy. Drivers are very courteous to each other. We will certainly be going back in the summer months.

Coming over on the ferry from England to Guernsey we read about this hotel and thought it would be a good place to have tea/lunch/dinner. We were passing and so decided to have tea. The welcome we received was warm, polite and friendly and we were shown the public areas for dinner/lunch/tea. Besides a formal dining room it has a very Raj Indian restaurant, an afternoon tea room and a conservatory. The views to the rear are over the port, so in the summer when you can dine in the garden you would get fabulous views. As we arrived at about 4pm we decided to have a pot of tea and a scone, as we did not want a full tea as we were just not that hungry. We sat in the conservatory and had a pot of Earl Grey and two scones, jam and cream, which came to just under £10. The service was excellent, efficient and courteous and the scones delicious, with real Guernsey cream. Every part of the hotel which we visited was a delight and the attention to detail was obvious. We are so glad we decided to explore this hotel. It comes highly recommended and a must to visit.

I can't recommend this hotel strongly enough. It may be more expensive than others in the area but in my humble opinion it is well worth the cost. Parking is not a problem as you simply hand your keys to reception who then sort out the parking. On arrival we were welcome and given a tour of the hotel. There is a maze of passages going up and down on the way to our room which was a king size balcony room with a great view over to herne and sark. The bed was really comfortable and the room very quiet. We also made use of both restaurants in the hotel and can confirm the food to be excellent. On our last day we had afternoon tea which was very comprehensive including sandwiches, cream scones and cakes with a choice of teas. Very good value too. It was great as all the staff know our names and appeared to enjoy giving great service. I can honestly say everything was well done and I could not fault them at all. An excellent stay and if we do visit Guernsey again we will be back.

My wife and I enjoyed a three day visit to the OGH. From arrival to deparure we found friendly efficient and welcoming staff. Jaro, the concierge from the Czech Republic was like a human Wikipedia, and very helpful in every way!

The restaurant and brasserie food was outstanding

Although our room was a little on the small side, it was very comfortable and quiet, and we appreciated having a shower cubicle

Everything at the OGH exudes quality and care

we stayed at the hotel for a weekend break. The hotel is nicely furnished but definitely not minimalist! Our room was rather small but had a view of the sea. The bathroom was also quite small but it had a shower as well as a bath, which was good. There was also lots of space to put wash bags etc in there and good quality shower gel/shampoo etc. The bed was very comfortable. We were surprised that we could hear the people in the next room talking. The breakfast was good with excellent fruit as well as a wide selection of cooked food. The breakfast room is lovely and light. The bar/lounge has lots of small areas which means you can have a drink without being next to lots of other people. I think the stars of the hotel are the staff. They are very attentive and spotted that I wasn't sure of the way to the staircase and took me to it - the hotel can seem a bit rambling. If a taxi doesn't arrive when booked they chase it up without being asked. We had to ring them and ask them to put something in a taxi which they did - definitely above and beyond.

Weekend spent at this lovely hotel, Great location, good facilities, spa (didn't use, wish I had), restaurants, outdoor pool (too cold to use), lounge and bar areas to relax or entertain. Part of a privately owned hotel group Red Carnation, newly discovered and will certainly try to use again. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Room 102 slightly small if you like space both in the room and your bed.

I have been visiting Guernsey on a monthly basis for four years and have alway stayed at the OGH - apart from one night when I have not been booked in. That night I stayed at the sister hotel up the hill from the OGH, and it was very comfortable etc. However nothing really compares with the OGH in any aspect. Maybe I have been going for too long but I would not wish to stay anywhere else. The hotel and the staff are simply outstanding in every aspect and I really cannot say more than that..

My husband and I recently spent 2 nights at the Old Government House Hotel. It was the absolute highlight of our 3 week trip in 5 European countries. The staff was so accommodating, friendly, helpful in every way and extremely professional. The hotel itself is lovely, impeccably decorated and provides so many interesting and comfortable spaces for relaxing with a good book by a fire, having a quiet delicious meal or enjoying evening cocktails. Our guest room was spacious, beautiful and provided absolutely everything we could imagine. The hotel is located within blocks of great shopping and the charming harbor, all within walking distance. Leaving OGH was the hardest goodbye we had in our journeys.

Great stay here for a of couple nights with my wife and friends on a business trip.

Excellent standard of rooms, the beds are huge and very comfy. I'm normally fussy as I love my bed.

The Resturant and service was brilliant. We had a large group for dinner and the attention from the staff was perfect at all times.

Would definitely stay here again when we are back on the island

OGH has an enviable location looking out to sea in St Peter Port. The building is something of a labryinth but is tastefully decorated and furnished- and a sea view room is worth the extra cost. The food served in the Braserie was really excellent with "Arthur's Curry" and "Hand chopped salad" worthy of special mention. However all this is secondary to the multi-lingual staff who were excellent in every respect. They went the extra mile to ensure we were well looked after for the four days we stayed at OGH. The service made this comfortable hotel feel special. We will now try other hotels in the Red Carnation group!

From the minute we arrived the standard of care was amazing. It is hard to decide if it is the Hotel or the Staff that should get 5 stars, and after our first visit I can confirm it is both! If I could give an extra star to the staff I would. On our last day my husband was poorly .. but he was made to feel better by their genuine concern and thoughtfullness - they even went to the chemist for him to collect his medication, way over and above expectations. I have come home feeling thoroughly spoilt, thankyou. New Year 2015 has started off with magic in the air thanks to the Hotel and staff. We are already planning a return journey to the OGH, hopefully with friends. Thankyou !

We have just returned reinvigorated and energised from our superb short Christmas break. The three nights we spent at the OGH passed too quickly! We were pampered by the staff who really looked after my other half who is pregnant. The Christmas lunch was excellent and our free room upgrade upon arrival was a lovely surprise - Our room had an Art Pop theme with original art work! The OGH parent group Red Carnation mention in their brochure a commitment to installing original art in their hotels; having owned a Contemporary Art Gallery I could see the success of this brief by the lovely eclectic theme throughout the hotel. We will be visiting again and next time hopefully a child in tow ! Many thanks from Christopher Guillochon.

Just spent Christmas at the OGH Hotel with my elderly mother and had a wonderful 5 days. We were sad to leave and can`t wait to go back. The hotel`s elegance, warmth and comfort is far superior to anywhere else we have ever been. The service is second to none -- this team really go that extra mile and more for their guests. Guernsey is a beautiful island with the OGH Hotel as its crowning glory.

My wife and I booked The Magical Christmas package. The trouble was that on arrival it became clear that hardly anybody else had. However, Christmas day lunch was a joy and was well patronized, but for the rest of our 3 day stay we were almost on our own. The waiters did a splendid job and were very attentive. Considering the package on offer we were disappointed that the people of Guernsey had not seen fit to take more advantage of the superb accommodation which would have added a bit more festive ambience. Thanks to all the staff for their efforts.

Our second time in Guernsey this year, and yet again the OGH is proven to be a world-class hotel with the best local influences. It's run efficiently and professionally by Red Carnation, with a well-trained staff and everything you'd expect from a luxury boutique hotel. The two bars are the highlight: this is one of the places that Oliver Reed used to get sloshed, and where Guernsey's upper crust come in for a tipple after work. The restaurants are excellent too: good service is a rarity on Guernsey, so the hotel has wisely imported a few French waiters to set an example.

I have stayed at the OGH a number of times and it never disappoints. Room, service and quality of food. Excellent location for the court (which I needed to attend) and town. I want to come for pleasure.

This was our first visit to Guernsey and we were visiting a close friend of ours who has just moved to the area. Knowing my obsession with five star hotels she recommended we stay at Old Government House - well this really was my kind of hotel in every way.

The hotel is very "old world" fabric covered walls, exceptionally comfortable lounges, bars, sitting rooms and restaurants. Open log burning fires in the reception areas (we visited in November) plenty of staff who were all extremely attentive and friendly. We were greeted at reception and our room allocated. We were escorted to our room by the bellboy who showed us around the hotel and our room.

I booked a sea view king bed room with balcony and was given room 111. The room was stacked with "comfort". Fabric covered walls, huge bed which was extremely comfortable and in this hotel they have got the pillows right (huge and very comfortable), premium quality signature linen and on the bed were two swans made out of towels. You may find this tacky but I love those little touches, to me it says that somebody cares what you think of the hotel's attention to detail. Flat screen TV which was small for the size of room and a limited number of channels but we don't spend time watching TV in hotels - just an observation. Tea and coffee (very good "real"coffee!) on a tray with lovely china cups, kettle and cafetiere with a note to order "real" milk if preferred. A huge comfortable sofa which turned into an extra bed too. There was a chest of drawers, desk and small table. The balcony was small but big enough for a round table and chairs. The bathroom had a large walk in shower, toilet, bathtub, single basin, heated towel rail and loads of large fluffy towells. Quality toiletries (Loccitane), the bathroom is small but everything is smart. The room has air conditioning but as we always love fresh air, we had the balcony doors open. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the room.

The hotel has a lovely restaurant, breakfast is a cold buffet and hot à la carte everything is served fresh by excellent friendly staff. The bar has an open log fire as does the sitting rooms where they serve afternoon tea - Lovely!!

There is an outside small pool which was closed on this visit in the winter, a fully equipped gym and large communal spa area consisting of steam rooms, sauna and two hot tubs.

All the staff here are wonderful, they all wear a carnation behind their name badge (the name and logo of the hotel group) clearly everybody enjoys working here and are proud of the hotel and certainly add to the tranquil efficient comfortable welcoming atmosphere.

I thoroughly recommend this only 5 star hotel in Guernsey.

The rooms are a bit small, everything else is top drawer luxury, service is very attentive and personal. It is old world England at its best.
Not ideal for children
Breakfast was always excellent as was the cream tea.
