Stayed for two nights here in a sea view room which was very spacious. Bed was very comfortable as we're the chairs. Would have liked some cushions for the balcony chairs but it was nice to have a small outside area. Ate in the Brasserie which was good. I had a crab salad to start which was huge but the other half had the scallops which was a very small portion even for a starter. We both had the rack of lamb for main which although very tasty local lamb was overcooked. We did make a point about this to the waiter who agreed that it was overcooked. Despite this we were charged full price for it, perhap a complimentary drink might have been a nice touch. Breakfast was good smoked salmon and scrambled eggs were delicious. I need to have gluten free food and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful with gluten free bread available at meals. The only strange thing was that we were given a voucher for complimentary drinks at the bar, double room you would have thought a drink each, no only one drink. It is a very comfortable hotel but that is what you are paying for and the staff are courteous and helpful. Would certainly look forward to staying again.

Our first visit to this marvellous hotel will not be our last. In fact we are planning on making this a place to return to two or three times a year. The service from making initial enquiries, to the warmest welcome on arrival, the care received in every department during our visit to our departure was beyond expectation. Every meal was a delight, the menu was imaginative. and the quality of the ingredients were first class. We thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be made to feel that they are a welcome guest for the whole of their stay. It is extremely difficult to choose members of staff to highlight for their service as each and everyone made us feel that nothing was too much trouble. But in fairness we would give a special mention to Ula in reservations, who was the one in patiently helped us get to the hotel despite bouts of illnesses which made us cancel our reservations twice.

We had a Deluxe Afternoon Tea here yesterday. It was superb. Large choice of tea to drink ( I had a keemum type, strong and gorgeous ), sandwiches, scones and cakes. We ate in the garden on a beautiful day which added to the enjoyment.
The only cake I wasn't too keen on was a red sponge which my friend said was Red Velvet, an American sponge. Not to my taste but everything else was. Thank you. OGH. Very, very pleasant staff as usual too.

Absolutely nothing but praise for this hotel. they get it all right. Staff are attentive and skilled. The breakfast is a joy. Spa superb, Nikki the masseuse was super talented. Amenities are all first class, great pool area. Whilst I did not have the afternoon tea it looked awesome.

We organised with the OGH to hold our evening function with them. They were extremely professional and made everything easy and straight forward for us.

On the night, the staff and food were excellent.

We had an amazing night thanks to all involved with our event.

Thank you Andrew, Samatha and all your staff!

This was everything you want a five-star hotel to be. Everything was done in the right way without you having to ask. How often does that happen these days? Not very! The hotel is in a great location in St Peter's Port. It is done up in a homely, but stylish way with pleasant communal area, garden and pool. We stayed in a King Double, which will a decent sized room with space for our ten month old daughter's travel cot (which the hotel set up and provided for us by prior request as well as providing a baby towel and a complimentary teddy bear for her, which was lovely). The staff really went the extra mile wherever possible. We we never made to feel a nuisance and our needs were met without fuss (e.g. a fridge was brought up so we could put our baby's milk in it within 3 minutes of asking!). Breakfast was delicious and after we had eaten, with our baby in her highchair loving all the fresh fruit, her special bowl and spoon were taken away and cleaned for us, which was really considerate of staff. Gorgeously comfortable bed, great shower with plenty of L'Occitane goodies in the bathroom, a decent TV, excellent concierge service and valet parking. All just great, but rounded off with a delicious afternoon tea on our last day, taken in the gardens with the last of the September sunshine.

We used this for a long weekend admittedly a while back but had a simply wonderful time. Everything from the room with the views to breakfasts to the staff was simply wonderful. The staff had a maturity which meant there was absolutely no difficulty communication, they almost second guest what we were going to say. Swimming and sitting by the pool one unusually warm Friday afternoon and sipping G&T's was exactly what was required. Will definitely return and soon!

My wife and I stayed for a few days at the OGH in St Peter Port to include the 1st September for our 30th wedding anniversary. From the time we walked in the front door to the time we left, the staff were brilliant! Nothing was too much trouble, we had swans and hearts made out of towels (and red carnations of course) on the bed each evening which my wife very much appreciated. Our suite was lovely though the shower was small and the walls a bit thin, however it is an old building and these small issues didn't detract from a wonderful stay assisted by the hotel's outstanding staff. It was a great choice of hotel for our 30th and one we will definitely return to, absolutely loved it!!

We booked this hotel for our 10 year anniversary. We arrived at the hotel at 8.30am and were able to check in immediately. The room was beautiful and we had an amazing view of the harbour. The hotel is centrally located in the town and therefore ideally located for sightseeing. The staff were very friendly and I could not fault the customer service.
The spa facilities are amazing and its a great place to relax after walking round St. Peters Port. The night of our anniversary we returned to our room to find rose petals scattered on the bed and complementary strawberries dipped in chocolate, and champagne. This was wonderful, unexpected touch by the hotel. We had breakfast brought to our room - which was outstanding and the next morning and they were happy for us to store our bags at the hotel after we checked out. They also arranged a taxi for us back to the hotel.

At the airport I realised that I had left my coat at the hotel. I rung them immediately and told them that I was about to board the aeroplane. They found my coat and have arranged for it to be posted back to me.

Wonderful hotel and we will definitely be returning! Great find!

Back to OGH for a short break (Golden Wedding celebration for wife and self) - what a lovely (Red Carnation) place it is. Blue Island from Southampton (much quicker check in than Flybe), loaded with Wasps Legends - noisy and huge - to play a charity match for Wooden Spoon and another local charity. Hotel Reception impeccable - welcoming us back as old friends (always appreciated, even if they had no doubt only just looked us up). Champagne in the room to celebrate. Down for tea (only blip - scones stodgy and revolting). Later, drink in the bar and into dinner. The bedrooms are fine - Five Star quality - but the most delightful Dining Room is the real heart of this hotel. Presided over by the commanding (6 ft 3 in)and unflappable Maitre d' Ken (his flambed steak Diane to die for) the food at OGH is just brilliant - and not pretentious. Three days of this - then back to beans on toast before a Mr Creosote incident. Quite honestly there is not a lot to do on Guernsey (so of course we watched the rugby match), but for a short stay and real pampering there are few places like OGH.

I can't understand why the OGH isn't no.1 for Guernsey on TripAdvisor - it is head and shoulders above the other hotels on the island, fantastic though many of them are.

I've stayed at the OGH twice now - once a few years ago and once for a weekend in September 2014. Hotel, staff and food were perfect both times.

It feels like such a privilege to stay at the OGH. It manages to combine an old world charm with modern luxury and decor, particularly in the bedrooms.

We stayed in a superior sea view room both times. Both rooms were stunning and well worth it.

Breakfast was delicious: an excellent choice of hot and cold food in the lovely Brasserie with sea views.

The OGH has a heated outdoor pool surrounded by sun loungers. It is quite deep, though is a separate shallow section too. A lovely crystal ball fountain. Lots of fresh towels by the pool. The bar staff still make the best Pimms too (bring back the morello cherries though!)

I love the OGH and will certainly be back one day.

Anyone who is looking for ideas for activities on the island, I'd recommend:

1. Sea kayaking with Outdoor Guernsey if the weather is good/sea is calm.

2. Walking from St Peter Port to Fermain Bay (a glorious cliff walk).

3. Taking a boat to Herm and walking to Shell Beach.

There's plenty to do on Guernsey but I'd rate those as my top three favourites.

If you can cope with going up and down the steep hill from the centre of St Peter Port to the OGH, you will be rewarded with the best accommodation on the island. One of the Red Carnation group of hotels. Outstanding staff, a charming dining room, comfortable rooms: a classic.

The OGH as it is known is a little gem. Not the easiest place to find but the assistance of a helpful local soon fixed that problem. The setting and general ambience is lovely with very attentive staff and all conducted in a relaxed and informal way whilst maintaining a five star standard.

The food was lovely and we would definitely recommend as a great getaway destination

This is a very comfortable hotel. We had a nice suite on the top floor (room 325). We liked that the bedroom did not have shared walls with any neighbours. The bed was huge, I'm guessing super kingsize or perhaps even bigger. This meant we had very restful, uninterrupted sleeps.

Unfortunately I cannot give this hotel 5 stars because of the very poor internet access it offers. While there is wifi throughout, the access speeds were dismal. Even in the public areas, speeds were between 0.1-0.3mbps. However, if you travel with an unlocked phone, it is easy and inexpensive to purchase a sim-only data plan.

We had food at the hotel several times and it was excellent. We especially liked the room service cheesecake and the afternoon tea. However, the restaurants in the hotel serve minimal, if any, vegetarian fare, which was disappointing.

My wife and I booked this as a last-minute break having never been to Guernsey before. Because it was last-minute we could only have a sea-view room for the first three nights of our stay and had to move into a side room for the last night. However the staff were very accommodating and the move was not a problem. In both rooms the beds were enormous and comfortable but did take up a lot of space as the rooms, which were labelled King, were not huge and quite full of furniture. Bathrooms are also quite small but very modern with good quality fittings.
The location is good being less thanten minutes walk down the hill to the centre of St. Peter Port (and a couple of minutes longer back up the hill) in a quiet road.
As the building is an old one converted to a hotel with more recent extensions, the layout is more higgledy-piggledy than a purpose built hotel. But we liked that and it was very interestingly decorated with period furniture and 1920's/30's cartoons and posters.
We had intended to have dinner at some of the restaurants in the town but actually ate all four nights in the Brasserie where the food was very good. If we had stayed much longer we would probably have wanted a little more choice as the menu is not over-long (the fish of the day was the same every night)
Breakfasts were excellent with lots of choice. The fresh fruit was very tasty (some apparently grown in the hotel's own garden) and there was a buffet for cold meats and pastries. Items off the menu such as kippers, haddock and the Full English, were cooked to order. A huge improvement on the chain hotels' hot buffets.
The outstanding feature of this hotel is the staff. All the ones we met, Reception, Concierge, Bar, Restaurant and Housekeeping, were, without fail. friendly, helpful and cheerful. We were more than pleased with the service we had from all of them and feel that they contributed a lot to how much we enjoyed our stay.
We highly recommend this hotel.

An excellent stay in a quality venue that manages to balance great service, relaxation, customer service, all at a fair price. This was a bank holiday 3 might break we thoroughly enjoyed. The staffs attittude was always positive and indicates to me a well led and happy team.2 weddings happened over the weekend but our stay was not disturbed and we never felt ignored. Finally highly recommend the curry room.

This was our second visit to the The OGH. There was a slight reluctance as its not easy to repeat the same fantastic experience twice but Andrew and his team managed it. I also had a spa treatment this time which was so lovely I went back again the next day. Our children who had begged us to rebook this year were absolutely delighted to see Ken who manages the restaurant again. He has the intuition to make sure their stay as special as ours. See you all next year.

My wife and I were celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary spending 4 nights in the hotel. We we were greeted royally by a wonderful smiling Czech doorman who gave us a tour of the hotel, parked our car and showed us to our room. This was both opulent and extremely comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble and were we presented with a bottle of sparkling wine on our first night. We had been contacted a week or so prior to our stay to explain that there would be a wedding over the weekend and there would possibly be some loud music. However the staff placed us in a room on the other side of the building away from the celebrations and we not aware of any disturbances. We were extremely impressed by this excellent and considerate service.

We cannot praise the staff enough; they were friendly, charming and extremely helpful throughout our stay. The brasserie served excellent food and everyone was absolutely delightful. The staff seemed genuinely happy and shared a common determination to provide high quality service. Brilliant! We have already recommended it to our five grown up children and their partners and to our friends.

Found the bedroom a little small for a couple which made it rather warm at night but that said it was still most acceptable. Hence my rating .
All staff were most courteous, polite, professional & helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and abundant served in the conservatory restaurant with views over St Peters Port and beyond to a Herm Island- wonderfully relaxing.
The hotel is comfortable yet palatial at the same time.

I won't repeat all the good comments others have made but I totally agree with them. My wife & I stayed from the 20th to 27th August and from the moment we were met on the steps to when we left nothing was too much trouble. Our grandchildren were also in Guernsey and when they came for afternoon tea with our daughter they were treated as they were residents and Ken treated them to 'special' cookies to ice themselves.
I've stayed in hotels all over the world when on business but the service, atmosphere and decour at OGH was way above anything I've had before. Attentive service without being intrusive and a guarantee of a return stay.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel for a special birthday back in July. We have travelled all over the world with work and on vacation from NYC to Singapore, from Dubai to Barcelona....and this is the best hotel we have stayed in. Not just the hotel (which is luxury) but the service was impeccable. Really first class touches. All staff were so personable. We loved our stay and will be back!!

A terrific establishment with many old fashioned values translated into contemporary style and comforts. Everything has been considered for supreme comfort and elegance bit a certain informality is also achieved with completely outstanding staff in every department, although we did feel the reception team were not quite so organised and impressive, and the Terrace Bar slow in terms of service. The rooms are superb and The Brasserie a perfect dining room again with excellent staff who go the extra mile to serve wonderful food. Main problem is the road access and parking; staff valet park your car safely but there is no on site car park as the hotel is in the old part of St Peter Port on a narrow hilly street. The gardens and pool are surrounded by the property which is beautifully decorated and preserved. This hotel is the perfect oasis in Guernsey.

Perfect hotel for relaxation. Situated in a quiet location but very close to the shops, cafés and restaurants in and around the St Peter Port harbour. We enjoyed an excellent champagne cream tea in the Brasserie on our arrival, and I was treated to a wonderful Swedish massage at the Spa. Rooms were spacious and very clean and comfortable. The full English breakfast lived up to our expectations. But best of all were all the friendly, helpful hotel staff. I look forward to staying here again on my next visit.
