From the moment we arrived at this establishment we felt special. My husband and our 7 year old daughter spent a week here in August last year. For a five star hotel one expects the best, but the staff here went that little bit further to be helpful and kind. One of the Red Carnation hotels, dotted around the world, it was not a chain hotel but very individual. It had the atmosphere of a country residence retreat, we were surrounded by antiques and little touches that made one feel very comfortable. Our family room was large, with a lovely bathroom, small touches such as the fruit on arrival, gifts and toiletries were thoughtful. The grounds were pretty and overlooked the sea, the pool was nicely placed and relaxing and well attended by staff to pamper to your every whim. The dining room was quaint and elegant, and the service the same - nothing was too much trouble. The food was tasty and didn't over-face you. The staff spoilt my daughter, with large jars of sweets on the sideboard to help yourself to. We walked into the centre of St Peter Port, which was small and very pleasant. My daughter needed a non emergency appointment with a GP, she was seen in 30 mins by a Doctor on the top floor of Boots, it cost £50 but my daughter was looked after well. A point to remember that although the Channel Islands are in the UK they are not in the NHS, so its worth checking your holiday insurance if you are covered, we were with Natwest and weren't!! So please check before you go.
We plan to return here for absolute comfort and relaxation!

Beautiful hotel with stunning views. As in other reviews the service is wonderful. The food was excellent and the range of decent quality wines available by the glass much appreciated. We wish we had more time and could have tried the wine tasting offer, next time a must!

This is quite frankly one of the best hotels we have stayed in, notable for the excellence of the service. tasteful decor and outstanding food. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anybody. We will certainly return there if we get the opportunity

We flew over to Guernsey for lunch on Saturday and hired a private room. The hotel couldn't have been more accommodating even though they were hosting a large wedding that day. It is a magnificent place, very close to the centre of St Peter Port. The food was excellent, but the staff and service we received really shone through. They must have excellent management and must also invest in their staff as it definitely shows. Thank you to everybody for making our day so special.

We stayed for two nights and had a thoroughly wonderful stay. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent. As a vegetarian I was very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. The staff booked us a trip to Sake which was a lovely a lovely day out. They even provided me with some carrots to feed the horses. I can not praise this hotel enough. I felt relaxed from the moment we arrived and can not wait to come back again. Thank you to all the staff for looking after us so well.

After having stayed several times at the group's sister hotel, The Chesterfield in London, I had high hopes for the OGH - I was not disappointed. Very high service levels including a tour of the hotel on arrival and staff greeting me by name throughout my 3 night stay - all nice touches. Beautiful location above St Peter Port with extremely well kept gardens overlooking a very warm outdoor pool. Brasserie dining was a pleasure, I would agree with earlier TA comments about how good the Eggs Benedict breakfast dish is. My one criticism is in the guest bedrooms - I am all for antique furnishings, but in my room (105) some of the pieces were looking a little worn out - knocked white paint marks on the desk and the bed mirrors is dire need of re-silvering - hence 4 rather than 5 stars. A shame as the rest of the hotel was exceptionally well maintained and presented.

I spent 4 days for a meeting in the OGH. The staff is very friendly and makes every effort for the customers. I had a room with a stunning view on the sea. The breakfast is fantastic. Enjoy this hotel and visit Guernsey.

We just stayed for one night but the Hotel is really beautiful, our room had a balcony and was overlooking the sea, really spacious with lovely bathroom. The staff are really fantastic at this hotel, nothing is too much trouble and their customer service is amazing. I had a minor issue with one of our courses for our evening meal and it was dealt with superbly with mimimum fuss. When we checked out we were given handmade flapjacks for our journey home, I thought that was a really nice gesture. We look forward to coming back very soon!

The hotel has an excellent central location and the welcome is warm and genuine. Almost every member of staff seems to have the guests' comfort and convenience as his or her priority. Ask and you will receive - with a smile! My wife and I enjoyed our short stay.

This is what all hotels should be like! The staff are very helpful and there little extras dotted around that you don't notice until you have been there a few days. It is ideally located and the food excellent. BUT you pay for what you get. Could be a little strained if full I guess but it wasn't when we were staying. I would stay again - once I have saved up enough cash.

There was a slight mix up at the original hotel we were booked into so I was a little stressed when we arrived at this hotel for one night. From the moment we arrived the staff made us feel relaxed and at home - nothing was a problem. Our room was front facing and was neat and very nicely decorated. Water was provided as was a turn down service. What a comfy bed we had also! Dinner was very nice and we stopped in the delightfully furnished lounge area for a drink before heading back the the room for bed. I must admit I don't like a shower over a bath but it seems many hotels still hold onto it - do yourself a favour and ditch them unless customers want to pay for a bath. Think of the saving on your water bill.

The hotel in smack in the centre of town. Their is valet service of you have driven.

Great hotel, great service - well done.

The hotel is located with 5-10 minute walking distance of the harbor and offers easy access to all of St Peter Port and all the attendant tours to other islands and the initiation of any bus tours.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and recently added some additional dining and drinking venues, all done in a extremely tasteful decor. The rooms are all serenely decorated to reflect the islands past and culture, but with all the modern features one would expect. All the hues are hush toned and reflect the elegance of the hotel.

As for service, the staff could not be more helpful. We have a penchant for fresh air, which means open windows during the sleeping hours. When we first checked into our room we noted that it faced an active side of the building where there was a higher than we desired level of noise. It merely took a brief call to the front desk and we were promptly moved to another, much larger room with a quiet fronting. There was not the least bit of reluctance to accommodate. This carried over with reservations for a tour and suggested activities. Everyone was very friendly.

We experienced the Brasserie restaurant, which has beautiful ambiance and had very enjoyable dinner. While we did not avail ourselves to their afternoon tea it looked exceptionally attractive and is served in an elegant lounge.

The free wi-fi works flawlessly and the fitness center is well outfitted. The only nit about the fitness center is its opening hours which vary between 8-9 AM which doesn't accommodate early rising exercisers.

I would also like to note that upon returning home I relayed a couple of minor annoyances to the General Manager, Allen Chartwell, who responded immediately, totally on point, and gracious. This is truly exceptional in today's form letter, impersonal world. We will definitely be back.

I stayed here with my husband and two friends for a special birthday. We had the most amazing time every! The hotel itself is wonderful in every way. The staff are so professional, helpful and friendly. No request is too big, no detail too small is what they say and they are absolutely correct. Everybody should have this type of experience at least once in their lifetime. The food was just fantastic, the rooms were superb and I am running out of superlatives to fully describe this gorgeous place. Just go there!

I forgot to mention the spa facilities. Also top marks scored there.

We stayed at the Old Goverment House over the Easter wend for our honeymoon, the hotel is faultless, they really couldn't do enough for us and really made our honeymoon extra special.
The food is to die for, I would go back for the eggs Benedict just alone!! Breakfast, afternoon tea, and dinner were all outstanding prepare to put on a few pounds, though there is a very good gym, and heated outside pool to burn off some of the calories.
We found the pool extremely warm and the grounds are very well kept.
If you have time you must visit the spa, I experienced the best head and back massage I have ever had and I've had a few!!
The hotel really got into the Easter theme and there were bowls of eggs and chocolate dotted around the hotel, there was also a bag of chocolates on our pillow for our Saturday night turn down service and we was presented with a bag of Easter eggs for breakfast on Easter Sunday, which I found to be lovely touches.
I would thoroughly recommend the ogh for a romantic stay, I personally didn't think it would be suitable for young children but I was told younger guests do visit in the summer.
Not a cheap break but worth every penny, we will def return

Recently stayed at this hotel on business - extremely efficient, warm & friendly front desk staff, nothing was too much trouble and everything has been thought of and anticipated.

I have stayed here a few times on business and leisure and each time I have had a different room, all have been lovely. Try and get a sea view if you can, as the views over the port and over to the outlying islands is lovely especially first thing in the morning.Great bedding and the BEST pillows.

There's a great selection at breakfast and the food in the brasserie at lunch and dinner was yummy too.

It's great not to have to pay for wifi in a 5* hotel!

I recently stayed at the 'OGH' for 3 nights. Its a wonderful traditional hotel, with warm and welcoming staff, my room card was ready on check in and the free wi-fi works very well. The rooms are big and very comfortable, fanatastic bedding !!! Breakfast was wonderful, with a great choice, its not buffet service, which I really appreciated. I recommend afternoon tea, its seems to be a location tradition ! and its delicious.

Almost gave this 3 blobs rather than 4 on account of the steep cost of this hotel. In reality, the staff are good and attentive and the bedroom although small was fairly opulent. Breakfast was excellent - great eggs benedict and the orange juice was freshly pressed and tasted great. So lots of good things. Just seems an extraordinary price - almost London rates - for the five star rating.

Very impressed with the welcome we received at this hotel. Service was excellent and the staff very friendly. Everywhere in the hotel was spotlessly clean which all added up to a most enjoyable weekend break for my wife and myself. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. I had the pleasure of staying here for two nights.

Lots of old fashioned luxury, with a modern twist. So nice to have the room key ready and the free Wifi code waiting for me.

The eggs benedict for breakfast were fabulous, with proper waiter service and no buffet.
