First thing to mention is that the website talks of the fabulous sea views, which happen to be only viewed from selected rooms. We had a view of the car park and some buildings that may have been of the staff quarters, but certainly in need of refurbishment. You cannot specify that you want a sea view, when you book, but when we complained that our room did not have a view, we were offer a change of room for two of our four night stay. If you can't book a sea view, why didn't they give our room to the later arrivals. The hotel is very old fashioned, but doesn't quite come across as a five star luxury hotel. The staff don't speak to you, without you talking to them first, not even a "good morning". Strange decor as most of the walls are covered in padded fabric, some of which does smell a bit. The bathrooms are tiny and more reminiscent of a B&B or guesthouse. Would I go again, probably not, but it was the combination of the hotel and Guernsey itself that did not tick all my boxes.

I have just returned from another visit during Town Carnival. I like to thank everyone for organizing the Caribbean Night with Tropikal Vizions. The music and the barbecue was a big success.
All the employees worked very hard and I think you are the best staff I have ever met, very efficient and friendly. Dear Mr. Chantrell I hope you will let everyone know. Thank you.

From the arrival until departure I was really spoiled from breakfast to lunch, dinner and drinks at the bar. The quality of the food in the Brasserie Restaurant was excellent. I like the lamb curry best, I even had it twice.

As mentioned before you are really "my home away from home".

See you again next year.

On a recent day trip return to Guernsey after some forty years we made a short lunch time visit to the OGH for drinks, I must reiterate that this was only for drinks however I am delighted to say that the Hospitality bit had not deserted the OGH. The hotel is wonderfully arranged in what I would describe as Chic Opulence the staff were equally well presented with an easy attentive presence, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit and plan to make a return with more available time in which to sample more of the hotels offerings.

I was impressed by the sheer number of antiques in the ODG.The ambiance was fantastic. The hotel had areal old world classy feel. The temperature of the outdoor pool was equivalent to bath water but the best thing about the hotel was the staff. They were amazingly helpful and well informed.

I took my mum to the OGH in May for 4nights and it did not disappoint!
The hotel is expensive but you definitely get what you pay for!!
The staff were all amazing and couldn't do enough for you!
The food was amazing- especially breakfast.
If I went back to St. Peter's port, I definitely wouldn't stay anywhere else!

We have just returned from a weeks stay and once again found the OGH to be faultless on every level. The service was perfect and incredibly attentive on both an individual and collective level. The Brasserie menu and food was quite delicious , and our daughter will never forget Ken's Flambé pancake - a perfect ending to her stay! The Crown Club is a most welcomed addition since our last visit and fits in superbly. I must mention the fabulous housekeeping staff who quietly and unobtrusively maintain, service and replenish the rooms to such a high standard - this is a vital aspect of ones stay and again, accomplished superbly. A fabulous week was had by all - the weather was perfect, the pool temperature was perfect, the OGH is perfect!

Got here after a gruelling two hour delay at Stansted (where building hammering work, crowds of noisy families and not enough seating areas had us frazzellled). Then entered paradise! The hotel is luxurious, staff attentive and friendly (not one is snobby!), gorgeous room with balcony seating area, view of the sea, air conditioning and lots of lovely touches. Wonderful lounges, heated outdoor pool....classic furniture... It's hard to leave the hotel each day to get out and see beautiful Guernsey and surrounding Islands! But we do, knowing that a warm welcome awaits when we return.

Some hotels are plush and well-appointed; some provide excellent customer service and some make you feel very much at home and relaxed. The OGH does all three, and does all three very well indeed.

We took a 5-day break to Guernsey and found the OGH to be an ideal base for Guernsey, St Peter Port and visits to the nearby island of Herm. What really made it great was that, without exception, any member of the hotel staff was very friendly and really wanted to make our stay as pleasurable as possible. All the staff can all be justifiably proud of the hotel and the experience they provide to their guests.

In all honesty, we'd have liked our queen room to be a little larger, but it had a really good bed and mattress, a well fitted bathroom with both bath and shower and the room was well serviced throughout our stay.

The restaurant provided an great choice for breakfast each day and, like the rest of the hotel, was run very efficiently and with just the right mix of professionalism and friendliness.

The outdoor pool was perfect for our visit, as we were fortunate to have a series of really warm sunny days.

All in all, we really loved this hotel and the way it operates and provides for it's guests; they paid a large part in making our stay in Guernsey a great experience. Thank you all.

My husband and I stayed here for 6 wonderful nights. We loved everything about the hotel. A great breakfast is included. I loved the location up on a hill. Easy walking access to everything in St. Peter Port. Great views. Pricey, but worth it.

Back to Guernsey on business and to the solid OGH - hasn't changed a bit - apart from a decoration upgrade. Everything is just right here - only one complaint, my room was incredibly warm even with the window open.

Probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in, certainly the best I've paid for myself. Staff were unbelievably attentive and universally excellent. Breakfast was outstanding with huge choice and fine quality. Stay there, you will not regret it

It was lovely to be greeted with smiles and positive reactions to all requests. From parking our car to helping with directions. Everything was a pleasure. The hotel is an oasis in the middle of town, within walking distance of shops and restaurants should you want to venture outside at all! The staff are charming and polite. Immaculately dressed and always there when needed. It was a delight and we will be back.

It is not hard to see why this hotel commands good reviews. We have just stayed for 4 nights and cannot fault it. The room was very comfortable. Attention to detail is consistent . Staff can not do enough for you. The outdoor pool is warm and well maintained. The food in the brasserie for breakfast and dinner is excellent. As another reviewer commented it was a nice touch that staff took the time to remember and greet us by our name. This is not though a cheap break. However the hotel does live up to its five star rating

Just back from a 3 night stay at OGH with my elderly mother. The rooms and overall ambience definitely deserve the 5 stars awarded and the food was so good that we had no desire to eat elsewhere, but it was the staff who made our stay more than pampered. I'd particularly like to thank the concierge JARO who was so understanding about my mother's disability and made sure that we were able to go and explore/enjoy the area without a care in the world.
I told JARO where I wanted to visit and as any good concierge he sorted every step of our trip, from the moment we left the hotel to the moment we arrived back. But it was the fact that JARO was so attentive to our needs. Even when we travelled to Sark, the driver of the horse and cart that met us commented out of the blue about how friendly and respectful JARO was whenever he spoke to him (even though he hadn't met him in person). The rest of the staff were all friendly and very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. So thank you OGH for the fantastic memories we have of our holiday.

Lovely friendly staff to greet you on your arrival, nothing is too much trouble. Homely and beautifully furnished bedroom - faultless. Breakfast was delicious and relaxing. Lots of lovely places to sit and relax - again with friendly attentive staff. 2 minutes walk to the High Street and other restaurants. Fantastic spa facilities. Did not want to leave and would only ever return to this hotel and would recommend to everyone. All hotels should be run like this.

We have stayed at the OGH seven times over the last 13 years, the last time in June 2014. It is a lovely hotel, perfectly situated to walk the charming town of St. Peter Port. The staff is amazing! After our first time staying there in 2001, we have never even considered another hotel on Guernsey. Since the Red Carnation Group took control a few years ago, the hotel has gotten even better. You won't regret booking at this hotel.

From the moment one arrives until departure this hotel lives up to every expectatiom, the breakfast choice and quality is superb, the staff are attemtive, the management are on the ball amd the building itself if a wonderful colonial building that makes one fee the Governer is still in residence. Great relaxing areas both indoors and outdoors and the swimming pool area is a real sun trap even if you dont want to actually brave the water!

This hotel was fabulous. The staff were excellent, friendly and professional. We were made very welcome as was our little Jack Russell dog! Our room overlooked the islands of Herm and Jethou and was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. We did have a problem one night with a loud television in the room next to ours but this was dealt with efficiently by the night concierge. The food was delicious and we particularly enjoyed our Indian meal in an additional atmospheric Indian dining room. All food in the main dining room was also delicious. We loved the heated outdoor pool and having had a massage in the spa I can thoroughly recommend that too. This a five star hotel but with a relaxed, though very professional, country house feel. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and there are many thoughtful and extra touches. We can't wait to return.

Lovely hotel, excellent staff and mouthwatering food.

They even picked up on the fact it was our wedding anniversary and when we got back to our room that night we had a tray of decorated fruit and a bottle of pink bubbly waiting for us and the bed was decorated with white Rose petals.

Ok it has been 40 years since my last visit somehow I don't think it will be that long before we return.

We came to Guernsey to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday and OGH gave us all an experience we will not forget. My son, his girlfriend, my husband and I were made so welcome and the complementary birthday cake and candle was such a lovely surprise. The food was excellent, pool area superb and gym and spa facilities. Our rooms, with sea views, were so comfortable and well maintained we could not fault anything at all. We can all recommend this hotel and look forward to returning again in (hopefuilly) the not too distant future.

Enjoyed a week of utter luxury, with breakfast and dinner. Food top notch, staff are so welcoming and efficient. Wonderful location. Fully equipped gym and the most relaxing pool area. Room a little small. We were so looked after and will definitely be back.

We came to Guernsey for one day via the ferry from Poole to see whether it is somewhere we could come for a long weekend. We had Sunday lunch at OGH and it was great. I am pretty sure the sunshine helped, as did the pleasure of sitting outside in the olive grove, and the great service from Naru, but most of all the food was really quite special. And the set ÂŁ25 menu is just excellent. We will likely come back at stay at the OGH.

I go to Guernsey three times a year, on business. The only benefit is being able to stay at this hotel. I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. Staff are great, with some remembering my name from previous visits. Certain rooms can be a bit small, but so very comfortable and clean.

If only all towns and cities on the mainland had a Red Carnation hotel! I also stay in a sister hotel in London, again very good.

Stay here!

Just spent the weekend at this hotel as part of a break which included taking part in the round the island walk.It was just the place to relax after walking for eleven hours .The staff were really attentive and the food in the Indian Restaurant was absolute quality.
The room was very comfortable with loads of towels and nice thick robes, filter coffee various teas and hot chocolate. We had a sea view overlooking the outside pool which was heated to just the right temperature which was just the place for my wife to unwind with a glass of champagne.
We had a really good time and will definitely visit again.
