A terrific establishment with many old fashioned values translated into contemporary style and comforts. Everything has been considered for supreme comfort and elegance bit a certain informality is also achieved with completely outstanding staff in every department, although we did feel the reception team were not quite so organised and impressive, and the Terrace Bar slow in terms of service. The rooms are superb and The Brasserie a perfect dining room again with excellent staff who go the extra mile to serve wonderful food. Main problem is the road access and parking; staff valet park your car safely but there is no on site car park as the hotel is in the old part of St Peter Port on a narrow hilly street. The gardens and pool are surrounded by the property which is beautifully decorated and preserved. This hotel is the perfect oasis in Guernsey.

Perfect hotel for relaxation. Situated in a quiet location but very close to the shops, cafés and restaurants in and around the St Peter Port harbour. We enjoyed an excellent champagne cream tea in the Brasserie on our arrival, and I was treated to a wonderful Swedish massage at the Spa. Rooms were spacious and very clean and comfortable. The full English breakfast lived up to our expectations. But best of all were all the friendly, helpful hotel staff. I look forward to staying here again on my next visit.

My husband and I have recently returned from an excellent and memorable stay at the hotel..the attention to detail and to the overall attention we received from all the team was first class. We were celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary and the lovely touch of receiving a bottle of Sparkling wine in our room was much appreciated...I would recommend this hotel highly and would like to add a special thank you to Catalin,Oliver ,Stewart and Ken for making our stay all the more enjoyable.

My husband and I spent one night at the OGH on the occasion of our daughter's wedding. The reception was held in the hotel Regency Room. I was most impressed with the efficiency of the staff, their helpful attitude and the overall attention to detail. The quality of food served to 120 people was exceptional and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

Our stay here began with a tour of the hotel, which I have never had at a hotel before, and this was very useful, as we were shown where the different rooms were and how to access them. Jaro's welcome immediately made us feel we were going to like this place. The room was comfortable, Jaro showed us how to get the internet on the TV screen and how to get the weather forecast. We liked the bathroom, the monogrammed towels, the L'Occitane toiletries, and the shower was great to operate. The one by the pool, sadly, was a wet room, with emphasis on the "wet", as the water didn't drain away quickly. The pool was lovely, with comfortable loungers all around, supplied with towels, and bar service. The restaurant was first class. Breakfasts were excellent, huge selection of fresh fruit, delicious variety of cooked meals too, and you could eat outside in warm weather. The evening meals in the restaurant were good too, but my advice to anyone eating there would be not to be put off by the rather bland descriptions of the food on the menu, the chef is an artiste, so choose whatever you fancy and it will be fantastic. All the staff were very attentive, and made you feel that nothing was too much trouble. The location of the hotel was good for the town centre and the port, St Peter Port is hilly, so you don't want to be too far from the main attractions. The staff book boat trips, etc. and give good advice to make your holiday just the way you want it. If you want a real five star experience, this is the hotel for you.

Bea Tollman (the founder and president of Red Carnation Hotels) promotes "no request is too large, no detail too small" and her manager and staff maintain this throughout the hotel. The furniture and fittings are wonderfully tasteful, the service, rooms and food are outstanding. The facilities are fabulous and we look forward to booking room 107 which over looks the harbour next year. It was a fantastic experience staying at the OGH!

We stayed for my brothers wedding, fantastic service from start to finish, very helpful staff. Room was comfortable with lovely decor. Dinner and breakfast was very good. Also a great location if you are visiting the island as it's right in the centre of town.

We loved everything about The Old Government House Hotel: our beautiful room with a balcony and sea view, the lovely public spaces and gardens, tea in the garden, piano music in the evening. What makes the hotel a stand-out, though, is the service. It is perfect. Special kudos to the concierge staff, especially Jaro, for making OGH and Guernsey a place we hope to return to! Not only is no request too much trouble but you are made to feel as if helping you gives the staff real pleasure. It's clear that the staff loves Guernsey and wants their guests to love it too. OGH is part of the Red Carnation group. I will definitely seek out their other hotels in my travels based on our stay at OGH.

we stayed here in the herm suite for our wedding and had our reception here. Firstly all I can say is positive things about the OGH.

The staff are wonderful and ensured our stay was comfortable and harry is a real credit to the hotel. He really made our day so special as he constantly asked if there was anything he could do for us and was more than happy to show us what the hotel had to offer.

The food was perfect and all of our guests really enjoyed their meals, everything was made to perfection and the whole day ran ever so smoothly. The staff were so attentive throughout the meal and remembered our names which really made our day.

The suite is beautiful with superb views from the balcony and flower petals on the bed, we were greeted with champagne and chocolates and a courtesy call making sure we were comfortable. our stay really was made so special. Again harry asked if we wanted to be shown where the heath club was and personally took us round the hotel for photographs.

our guests and I were really impressed with how friendly and welcoming the staff are and this really shone through our stay!!! The OGH definitely lives up to its slogan.

we will be certainly coming back!!!!

We didn't stay here, we attended a wedding. What a fantastic wedding it was. The food was lovely, the staff professional but friendly, the views were breath taking. A fabulous venue and a brilliant day.

We stayed here for 5 nights and the hotel is excellent and the service definitely 5 star, nothing is too much trouble, you are really made to feel welcome. The location is good although nothing is far away in this small island. The only criticism I would have, is that the beds are too hard. In a hotel of this standard I would expect to sink into a lovely soft but firm bed and this only had the firm aspect.

What a superb hotel and location. Heated outdoor pool. Met at the airport. Champagne chocs and flowers in room. Very comfortable. The staff were chatty, friendly but always slick and professional. Dale seemed to do a bit of everything, remembered our names and was a wonderful ambassador for the hotel. Thank you all for a wonderful anniversary weekend.

A nice mini break in Guernsey, the weather was good to help. The hotel was excellent, as was the food and accommodation . We found it to be located well in St. Peter s Port also, as there are quite a few things to see.
We could not use the spa unfortunately as it was fully booked, so this needs to be booked beforehand.

Stay one midweek night as we were meeting friends off a cruise ship. Our room was ready earlier than excepted so we changed and went around the small quiet pool which is in a bit of a sun trap. The staff were some of the most friendly I have come across in hotels and all wanting to go that extra mile to help and make your stay an enjoyable one. Room very quiet and comfortable. Breakfast the following morning was very good as well. This has to be the only place to stay in Guernsey.

We have sailing this year in England and then went to Channel islands. I have been there for a first time. On Guernsey We were walking and looking for a place for diner. I have noticed a lovely hotel and we came in. We have had diner at the brasserie Everything was perfect there, interior,
lovely terrace, food and the excellent service. The member of the staff Marius was very kind to tell us more about the second hotel on Guernsey of the Red Carnation hotel chain and next day we went for diner there. It was the same nice ambiance. I highly recommend everyone to go at least for diner to these hotels while visiting Guernsey. They are for sure best places on the island!

We decided to for go lunch and have afternoon tea instead at the Old Government House as a treat for my parents whilst on a shirt break in Guernsey. After spending the day touring around the island, we were all ready for a cup of tea and some delicious food. And that's just what we got! The men also indulged in a glass of excellent champagne. We opted for the deluxe afternoon tea package, sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and a selection of cakes. All prepared that day and the scones freshly cooked and still warm when they arrived. Heaven, especially when sitting in the fine surroundings of the OGH. We all left happy, if slightly full and were restrained enough to decline the offer of a doggy box for our leftovers (we did manage to leave a couple of cakes un eaten!). Would definitely come back.

We spent a week in this fabulous hotel and were truly sad to leave. The property itself is beautiful and the staff were so friendly, efficient and really seemed to enjoy making our stay one to remember.
On our second night we celebrated my husbands birthday in the Brasserie restaurant. The food was great & at the end of the meal we were presented with a special dessert and a hand writen birthday card.
The one and only negative thing about staying at this hotel is that it has spoiled us for everywhere else. We will definately be returning next year.

My husband and I spent two days and one night in Guernsey for our wedding anniversary on 25th June this year. Booking the trip as a surprise, I made sure we took full advantage of our visit so needed a hotel which could offer fine dining and great spa treatments.

Upon booking, I contacted the general manager, Andrew, and asked him for dining/pampering suggestions. He got back to me very quickly and offered me a bespoke package to include a treatment for us both in their couples room, a private wine tasting session and a meal at their Indian restaurant.

When we checked in, the hotel seemed a little out-dated in the reception lobby and at this point we weren't sure how it would be throughout the rest of the hotel. That said however, the reception staff were so attentive, we knew we weren't going to have an issue with service levels. When booking, I took the second from basic option - I think this was called a king room as opposed to a standard room and when checking in I upgraded again to the same style room but with a sea (harbour) view. This was only a additional £30 and well worth it.

The hotel is a lot bigger than it looks from the front and when being shown to our rooms we were wondering how on earth we were going to find our way back to reception- there are lots of staircases which strangely went up to go down again! Our room was a good size and I have to say, spotlessly clean along with the rest of the hotel. The decor was pleasant if not a little 'different' with most of the walls in the hotel being padded and fabric covered. We did manage to see the smaller rooms on offer and they were extremely compact- we would have found it a little claustrophobic had we have booked this type of room.

A few hours into our stay we went for our 'his and hers' massage which was lovely. Again, the staff were great. We did however have to cancel our wine tasting as all we were capable of doing after 75 mins of relaxation was... Sleep!

When we returned to our room, we were greeted by a bottle of fizz, some hand made chocolates and strawberries and a personally written card from the hotel manager wishing us a happy anniversary. This was a very nice touch and not expected but very much appreciated. We also returned to our room that night to a bed scattered with petals- again, so very personal and made us feel great. It was clear that Andrew had noted our occasion and communicated it with the staff.

The weather, contrary to the forecast, was fabulous and had we have packed anything other than jeans and light jumpers, we would have made full use of the outside pool. That said, we did enjoy a few cocktails on the terrace overlooking the pool and one could have been mistaken for being in the riviera it was so lovely with great views of St Peters Port.

To surmise, in my opinion, this hotel is worthy of its five stars. Granted, it's in need of a little renovation here and there and the Indian restaurant has room for improvement, but the service, cleanliness and overall attentiveness offered at the OGH far outweighs its minor negatives. We will certainly return.

Thank you Andrew and staff, for a lovely weekend.

Enjoyed my stay at OGH with a beautiful room with a view of the port and ocean, attentive and friendly staff, great location to access everything in town via a short walk, and very nice restaurants on site. Looking forward to visiting again.

Once again we were made to feel very welcome. It was nice to see some familiar faces, Keith and Paul in the Crown Club. Big Ken who Iv'e named the New Steak man who cooked an amazing Steak Dianne for me (you must try it). I must also mention Oliver, Sophie and Zoe who really looked after us round the pool. My only slight niggle was confusion whether you are allowed scones round the pool or not, this seemed to depend on which manager was on duty and caused irritation to some guests.
Anyway all in all we had a great time and intend to be back next year.

Fantastic hotel that we come back to time after time, the service is excellent and the recent refurb has made it even better, 5*. We usually book the Herm Suite which has beautiful views over St Peter Port. You can't beat the location so handy to stroll into the town and the food is superb. We have been coming here for 10 years and its always my first choice in Guernsey. The staff are so attentive and friendly, always service with a smile!

We stayed at the OGH for 3 nights, we had an amazing time, the hotel was perfect in every way, all of the staff were brilliant, extremely attentive, we only had a classic room , but still very comfortable and with all of the luxuries! The gym was great and a good choice of fitness classes! The breakfasts are amazing , so much choice . The hotel is in a great position and only a short walk into town , where there is plenty of lovely restaurants . Hoping to return later in the year and would recommend this hotel!

We enjoyed 3 nights in the OGH as part of my partner's 50th birthday. The staff were very attentive and everything was done with a lovely smile, with everyone knowing your name. We had a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the harbour and nearby Islands with everything that we could possibly need provided. We enjoyed a wonderful curry in the Curry Club in very intimate surroundings and the following evening a wine tasting session with Catalin, who was very knowledgable and passionate about the Bouchard Finnlayson wines. Nothing was too much trouble and personally I would not have changed a thing, we shall return. It was a fantastic way to celebrate my 50th, I was made to feel very special for my time here. I can only echo the comments made by my wonderful girlfriend and thank her for the opportunity to enjoy our time here together.

Having stayed in other of The Red Carnation Hotels it was an easy decision to spend our Silver Wedding Anniversary At The Old Government House in Guernsey.

The quality and excellence of service far exceeded even our expectations, what other hotel will provide Iced lemon water and sun cream by the pool. Staff who recognise you and address you by name, the very tops in fine linen and towels, all changed with incredible regularity.

Being on the anniversary package it was a pleasure to be met at the airport by Adam looking very smart and sporting the signature Red Carnation ready to drive us to the hotel. The perfect start.

We had an ambition to eat breakfast in The Olive Grove, we did, every day together with Dinner.

Speaking of dinner, the choice of food is very comprehensive ranging from a sandwich through light bite half portions to large steaks and lobsters. Just take you pick, it is all of the highest standard and beautifully served.

Having absorbed the beautiful furnishings and comfort in all areas - Bea Tollman is a genius and the inspiration behind the R.C.Group- The crowning glory of the Old Government House is it's situation on a ledge in the centre of St Peter Port commanding views across the Harbour and out to the isles of Herm, Sark and even to Jersey and France.

Wish we were still sat on our balcony glass in hand absorbing all these delights.

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at the OGH, which included my wife's birthday, and we would certainly not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends. The service was certainly 5 star, nothing was too much trouble. The room was very comfortable and had every facility we could have hoped for, we ate out during the evenings, as we prefer to do when away exploring local eateries, but breakfasts were plentiful with superb choice and the quality was again excellent. The location of the hotel is a short walk to the town, harbour, restaurants and attractions. If you are visiting Guernsey and want a touch of luxury book up at the OGH.
