We have just returned from a very relaxing 2 night stay at the Old Government House Hotel. I totally loved this hotel! The location is perfect - just a 10 minute walk from the harbour, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and the hotel was spotlessly clean and well maintained.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Guernsey. I was very sorry to leave.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this beautifully kept hotel. We were embraced by the feeling of cosiness from the surroundings & always greeted with a pleasant smile from the staff. It's certainly the place to be for relaxation. And to ignite the day in the gym/spar..... Lovely. Peter & Brenda. :-)

Spent a great week at the Old Government House Hotel. The Staff were excellent and two minor problems were dealt with swiftly and efficiently. The Rooms are slightly small but this did not detract from the overall satisfaction of the stay. The food was excellent and the afternoon tea to die for.

Wonderful few days spent at the OGH! Situated in an ideal location with lovely facilities. Very friendly, relaxing atmosphere with incredibly helpful staff - Norbert, waiter in the Brasserie Restaurant, was exceptional!! Will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family! Look forward to returning to this impeccable hotel. Thank you very much to everyone who helped us, from the Holt and Evans family.

Have just returned from an excellent 6 night stay at The OGH. Lovely room, excellent Staff & super food. The breakfast was the best we've enjoyed anywhere in the world. We were even able to breakfast in the garden on several mornings. We had lunch by the pool on two occasions; also excellent.

My "Average" rating is not strictly accurate, as stays at this hotel can range from Poor to Excellent. The hotel need to address two issues.

The first is that the satisfaction with a stay is far too highly dependent on the room allocated. Rooms at the front overlooking the harbour, some with small balconies, are excellent. Those at the rear and side overlooking the car park and, more importantly, the bins (which are emptied in the early hours of the morning) are noisy and can be terrible. Others are quite cramped and at least one has just one tiny window requiring the lights on even in mid-summer. Frankly, it's all too much of a lottery.

The other issue is that dinner at the restaurant, which should be one of the best in Guernsey, is just "OK to Good". It should be outstanding and there is no excuse for it not being so. The result is that we always eat dinner out and the hotel loses valuable revenue. I should add that breakfasts (especially) and lunches are fine.

The staff are great (although the concierge could smile a little more!). This is still probably Guernsey's best hotel but it could be better.

Having stayed at OGH over the last 9 Years, I was pleased to see the level of maintenance this year was high with the exterior and public rooms looking refreshed. I was also impressed with the latest addition of the Crown Club and its facilities and the exceptionally good and reasonably priced Curry Room (formerly the Governors Restaurant). The staff were welcoming, charming and helpful. The hotel has raised its game and is exceptional. For its position, amenities and quality of food and service, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

I am fortunate enough to stay in many so called top hotels in different parts of the world: London, North America and Asia - and the OGH outshines them all. Quite superb. The manager, Andrew Chantrell, has created a world class hotel. The combination of quality of decor, the thought that has gone into rooms and their design and presentation, the restaurants and bars, the pleasing variety of styles and above all the staff - for example, Dave, Ken and Jozef are outstanding, as are all the reception desk staff, housekeeping and bar staff - are brilliant, they make the stay as good as it is. There is a wonderful restaurant called the Brasserie which is outstanding - there is a recurring theme here - in both food and service. Try lunch and breakfast overlooking the pool, drinks in the library - wonderful. For a stay of any sort - family, couples or business, I have not seen better, certainly not in London. The hotel is on the edge of St Peter Port, but you may not feel the need or wish to leave the hotel to go into town (although I have to say that it is a very pleasant walk). This hotel is very special. If you get a chance to go, take it. We can't wait to go back.

We had a lovely stay in the hotel. We think it is overpriced for what it is, but is the best in town. The hotel is a bit of a warren and rooms are variable quality so choose carefully. Spa seems a little detached from the main hotel, almost as if operated by another company. Would return.

Stayed at the OGH for three nights and have nothng but positive things to say about it.
Great location a few hundred meters up the hill from St Peter port, quiet garden with pool.
Rooms are a bit Small but more than big enough for two people who doesn't intend to spend all their time in there.
Great breakfast wih a buffet and a range of choices from the kitchen.

My wife and myself had a very enjoyable, six night stay at the OGH. We found all the staff to be friendly and excellent at their jobs, in particular Stewart , P J, joseph, and Katya. We took with us our cocker spaniel Mabel , she was made to feel as welcome as any human in the hotel and received the full five star service, providing a bed, towel, treats, bowls, etc, all at no extra cost.
We booked a "king "room with a balcony overlooking Herme and Sark and wasn't disappointed , the view was fabulous. All the food we ate in the hotel was superb, in the main restaurant, the sea bass was so tasty. The curry room provided excellent indian food with a great choice of wines for each course. The champagne afternoon tea was equally as good and plentifull,as was all the breakfasts.
Overall we had a very enjoyable experience and will certainly look to stay at the OGH again in the future.

I would highly recommend this hotel in Guernsey. My stay for four nights was made very welcoming by the staff of the hotel. They had a professional approach to everything. The breakfast choice was superb. There was a great choice of evening meals too. The hotel is situated in an ideal location and most destinations are in walking distance.
Very good hotel for the price too.

Our three day stay in Guernsey was exceptional thanks to the OGH. The hotel, facilities, rooms, service and food are all excellent, and far exceeded any expectations. The staff could not have been more helpful and polite, and this renovated colonial retreat is a gem. We would defintiely return.

The team at the Old Government House hotel make it an exceptional place to stay and visit Guernsey. The welcome was friendly and efficient, the restaurant staff professional and very attentive, they were there when you needed them, and nothing was too much trouble. The Spa is below the hotel, open to outsiders, it offers 5 treatments rooms, a wet room and sauna and steam room. The therapists were friendly and the treatments excellent.
Our bedroom was not big, but breakfast on the balcony in April was a real treat! The rooms are very well equipped, high quality towels, bathrobes and bathroom products. Free wifi.
The location is perfect for strolling round the town, great boutiques to shop in, and many fine restaurants to choose from.
We are looking forward to our next trip to Guernsey and staying at the hotel!

We have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel and can honestly say it was one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We were celebrating a birthday and a recovery from a serious illness and this was just the sort of luxury and pampering we wanted. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We splashed out and stayed in a suite which was beautiful with excellent views over the port. All the staff went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted from Gavin by the pool, Keith and Jose in the Crown Club, Gonzalez at concierge and Ken, Norbert and the rest of the team in The Brasserie. Thank you for a fabulous stay - we will be back!

On arrival the concierge asked us if we wanted to be shown around the hotel. No it's ok I said we've been before. To this he replied have you seen the new crown club, no we said. So he took us round and wow what a great addition to the hotel. It was so good we went every night and were made very welcome by Keith, Paul, Gino and Jose. All in all we couldn't fault the hotel. The food was great including the breakfasts and a special mention to the Steak Dianne Man.

Good, solid Hotel. Good food, good location. The staff were very helpful (especially when I was arriving 2 days after my family - In the meantime Jim 'the letch' Davidson (infamous unfunny, drunken 'comedian') was staying at the hotel and took an unhealthy interest in my wife, which I needed the help of the Managment to deal with in advance of my arrival. All good...

All there is to say - Solid top end hotel, very well located...

Arrived and had to wait a couple of hours for our room, which we accepted as check out was at 11am, and we had arrived at 12. Reception promised to call us on our mobile but that never happened. After 2 hours we went back to reception and our room was ready and our suitcase was already in the room so we didn’t understand why they hadn’t called us as we had been sitting around in the hotel waiting for our room. A bit annoying.

The room was ok (room 104). But it was above the function room and although we had a couple of polite letters from the Management saying that the music would finish at 11pm, (which it did) the guests decanted themselves from the function room to the garden just outside our room, for further drinks and entertainment. Very noisy. I guess it was just the wedding season and as we stayed over from Thursday to Monday, so we couldn’t get away from the functions.

The rooms had tea making facilities, (replacement Earl Gray not being on the list obviously) and all the usual shampoo, body lotion etc. Hand held showers were fantastic for someone with long hair. Nice touch. Couldn’t get the air conditioner to work and lower the temperature, so we concluded it was on some sort of central control, opened the windows instead for a draft. Bed was very comfy.

Pool was supposed to be heated but was freezing cold, Personally I don’t mind that it was not heated until the last day. I would have liked to know what triggered the heating though. Loved the fact that the hotel provided sun protection lotions for everyone to use. Great idea. Didn’t like that people using the spa could also use the pool as one sunny day, there were not enough beds for guests. I understand the business model though. Would have preferred more beds that were adjustable and also thought it unheard of for a so called five star hotel to be unable to provide sun umbrellas when it was so hot. There is no shade around the pool, and you really can’t rustle up a sun umbrella when a guest asks you for one? Really? Well obviously not.

All the staff were fantastic. And I mean all. Outside of Dubai, this was the best service I have ever received and that is no small compliment!!!. A couple deserve a special mention, Katya in the bar who so looked after us night after night, lots of personality, we loved her. And PJ, who when he could not get a taxi for us, got the hotel car to take us to our destination on time, he was the epitome of good service. Nice to see someone take such initiative to sort a problem for a guest. Thank you for your exceptional service.

Nice hotel with lovely public rooms. Superb staff. Intend to return shortly.

Attention to detail correcting any mistakes. Thank you to the manager for the offer of a massage, and the champagne and pampering gifts. Great hotel! Stayed in 2012 and hope to stay again one day. I recommend the OGH hotel to anyone looking for a hotel in Guernsey.

It was our second visit to the Old Government House in Guernsey and this time we took my mother (78) for her birthday. Our experience was first class even before we arrived with the Hotel's team emailing to ask if they could arrange anything for us ahead of our trip. On arrival we were greeted by exceptional, warm and friendly staff - an experience which continued throughout our visit. The hotel is ideally located in the heart of St Peter's Port,a brief walk to the marina and shops. The facilities are 5 star with a lovely pool area and a variety of choices as to bar or relaxation areas. The food is to a gigs standard as is the service - the team catered to our every need but in such a way as to make us feel extremely relaxed. They were flexible and able to cater to all ages, young and old. We travel a lot and this is easily up there with some of the best 5 start hotels that we've stayed in - the friendly, engaging staff make it the perfect place to stay when in Guernsey.

I have just returned from a one week visit of Guernsey and the OGH. I quite enjoyed the "welcome back" and the smiles from the team.
As before I had a great time, everyone was very attentive and helpful from the first day until departure. Thank you to all the ladies at the reception.
Meeting and talking to Harry Seepaul, Director Guest Services again was great.
I liked my room very much it was always in good order, most of the time it was serviced during breakfast. The room was opposite the small office of "Housekeeping". I liked to talk to the ladies and the Head Housekeeper every time I went out or returned, best neighbours I ever had.
The events with "ClassyCool" was amazing so were the food and drinks offered. Also thank you for supporting the Town Carnival it was well worth it.

Breakfast was very good every day a different choice of "hot selections". I had lunch and dinner at the Brasserie. My favourite is the "crispy roast baby chicken" and for lunch the "House sandwiches".
Room Service was very fast and the tray with the food looked nice.

I am looking forward to returning to the OGH.

Thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay at the OGH Hotel. 5 star hotel at 4 star price! Room was, although not large, perfectly adequate and very comfortable, as was the bathroom. Public rooms were spacious and well appointed. The pool was heated to 29 degrees even in July! and was as comfortable as the loungers. Nice touches were sunscreen available at the poolside and weather forecast left in the room during turndown service. But one of the outstanding assets of this hotel was its staff. All were courteous and helpful, and superb at making you feel welcome, and "at home". The food is also worthy of praise, breakfast - excellent, dinner - superb and if you get the chance try their picnic (which for us was part of a "discovery" package that included 2 days of car hire and a dinner in the Brasserie), generous almost to an excess. The food was great and china plates, salt and pepper pot, and eight pieces of cutlery each made it very special (if heavy!).
