This is a great hotel. Even before we arrived staff had asked us our preferences and ensured small details like having decaf tea/ hair items in my room were sorted. When we arrived the staff were fantastic - no detail was overlooked. This is a perfect hotel to treat a loved one in as the staff are brilliant and location is fab. Definitely worth upgrading to a sea view room though as room is larger than the standard one and has a better bathroom.Lovely pool area and olive grove for dining outside. Food was fantastic. Took my mum this time - Looking forward to returning with the boyfriend soon!

Having experienced the fantastic Oyster Box, we decided to book the OGH as it is in the Red Carnation group too. There are some excellent features to the OGH but enough small criticisms to leave us slightly disappointed.
Positives
The location a couple of minutes in a quite area above the hill from town is excellent.
The service staff in all areas were very good (arguably slightly too attentive at times)
The Curry Room dining experience is simply first class...not to be missed!
Negatives
Our room (316) was fairly small and cramped for a 5 star establishment. The view was of an adjacent street and a tiny corner of the garden.
The bathroom was certainly not 5 star. A simple bath with an over bath shower that required a plastic non-slip mat really didnt look great and was not what we had expected.
I don't appreciate paying service charge on restaurant meals taken in the hotel when a staying guest.
The drinks in the new Crown club are expensive (£12 for a Mojito compared to £7.50 in the lounge area).
We had a lovely stay but overall didn't think this was a true 5 star experience although the room price most certainly was!

Fantastic hotel. Great service provided by friendly, welcoming staff in a classy but laid-back environment. We were really disappointed to leave but work & mundanity called, I'm afraid. We will definitely return, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Full marks to the whole team. They couldn't have done better. We loved the place!

We have just spent 4 nights in the lap of luxury. Yes, we were born before 1960 and loved the period ambience. Staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble from the Front Desk up to and including Below Stairs. The room was spacious and well maintained and the provision on our arrival of Champagne to help us celebrate was a bonus. We made full use of the outdoor swimming pool but the gym area was avoided due to our age!! We can thoroughly recommend the hotel if you wish to pamper yourselves.

I spent two nights with my sisters in this beautiful hotel for a relaxing getaway! The afternoon tea we had in the garden area was one of the highlights of our trip. Delicious scones and nothing beats drinking champagne in the sunshine!
The gym area is very well equipped for a hotel gym, with a steam room and sauna available as well.
The new Crown Club is sophisticated and modern and the perfect location to relax with a cocktail.
The rooms are beautifully decorated with a lovely personal feel. I loved the l'occitane products!

OGH; splendid in every way except watch out for bedrooms 131-135: they don't have any view and almost no natural daylight which, for a hotel charging these rates is a bit much. The rooms in the pictures are obviously not these few!

Our stay at the ogh was brilliant. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the holiday to celebrate her 40th and our daughter (eva) absolutely loved her stay and all the goodies that came her way. The staff were very attentive and our daughter took a real shine to Ken who treated her very well indeed.

In terms of plus points and minus point .... All plus points and nothing negative to report : - )

We stayed for a week in mid June. Excellent old style service, not a thing out of place, staff only to pleased to assist. Very comfortable, good rooms, all facilities modern and very well kept. Big spacious lounge with a first class afternoon tea specialty. Restaurant tables well spaced out, never too crowded.Dinner Menu choice was from a fair variety of dishes to suit most tastes, supplemented by three or four specials each evening. Breakfasts typical of a first class hotel, catering for all international taste, not short of anything. Outside terrace to dine when weather permits.

The central location in St Peter Port made it easy to walk in and around the centre. The town is spotless and buildings very well maintained. We had a small hire car for the week, driving not a problem, car war parked by staff and delivered back to the main entrance on call.

The Hotel is highly recommended for anyone wanting a relaxing stay with faultless service and excellent international facilities .

An excellent hotel in a perfect location for the town. I should be delighted to return. A particular mention should be given to the excellent Indian food in the Curry Room. Very good public rooms. We enjoyed our lovely balcony overlooking the sea

Old Government House was one of the very best hotels my wife and I have stayed at. We have seldom enjoyed a stay as much as we did there. The property is attractive and charming, as the name and history suggest -- full of cozy sitting rooms just right for afternoon tea and bright spaces for dinner or a drink. Decor is traditional but done with imagination, not stuffy in any way. Our room was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a spectacular view of the harbor; The restaurants -- both the main dining room (sensational local seafood) and the Curry Room (most sophisticated Indian cuisine we've had in a long time) -- were outstanding. The location right in St. Peter Port is convenient to shops, sights and the harbor. But it was the friendly and extraordinarily helpful staff that were most memorable. They were attentive to every detail, right down to wrapping an anniversary gift for me and stowing it away so my wife wouldn't find it, then delivering it with a bottle of bubbly and a vase of locally-grown freesia. Guernsey is delightful and the hospitality at the OGH makes it well worth a return.

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights for our fourth wedding annevesary, and it was just 5 days of the most relaxing and spoilt time of our lives. The hotel is absoloutely amazing, its just so hard to describe how beautiful this place is. We stayed in the Herm Suite and if you do have a chance to stay I recomend this suite the view is just incredible even when your in bed. The only thing that was better than the actuall hotel was the staff, they were quite simply the most caring and friendly hotel staff that we have ever had. Every detial was looked after by them nothing was ever overlooked, the restaurants are just fabulous. The head chef even came down and met us and made some special exceptions for my wife. Without a doubt in our minds we would definately stay there again just longer next time thats for sure.........

My wife and myself were treated to 5 days of sure bliss in this hotel, the cleanliness of the hotel was outstanding, I cannot explain the attitude of the staff as they were the best staff we have ever had at a hotel from receptionist to staff waiting in the restaurant, & maid, made it a delight to stay in this hotel, we had a room overlooking the port which was superb. We will be going back in the near future.

This was our first stay since the Carnation Group took over our stay was fantastic the room was out of this world views were stunning from balcony the decour of room was wonderful had so much room it was unbelievable everything you would want was their having stayed at many hotels over the past 30 years this far outshone anything we had seen nothing was to much trouble the food was of the highest standard I have ever encountered a great variety at all meals it is quite obvious they have a top class chief the staff were all a credit to company they were all very professional and polite at all times nothing was ever to much trouble for them you can see why Hotel has been awarded a 5 star status It was obvious that they are continuing to add additional services all the time we would not hesitate to highly recommend this hotel to anyone considering it was 5 star the prices for food, snacks and drinks was very reasonable we cannot wait to return for a longer period next time

We have just returned from a week in Guernsey staying in the OGH. After clearing up a misunderstanding about the room we thought we had booked the hotel receptionist was most helpful in giving us a choice of larger rooms.
In general all the staff went out out of their way to be helpful and did very well in remembering our names for most most of the time. This created a most welcoming atmosphere. The only minor criticism was that the restaurant waiters did seem to get a little confused at times. Sometimes another waiter would ask us for our order when we had already done so with one of his colleagues. The restaurant service was generally very good and attentive although possibly at times a little too much!
The quality of the food was excellent, particularly breakfast. The brasserie menu catered for most tastes but at the end of our week we would have liked some alternatives even though there we some specials. We also ate in the smaller Governor's Room which had curry style dishes again very enjoyable.
We saw both standard and larger rooms. For a week's stay we think that a standard room would be too small. Our rooms were spotlessly clean a well serviced each day. The shower cubicles we saw were all a little on the small side.
The hotel is very well situated near to the center of St Peter Port and only a few minutes walk to the harbour, sea front and most of the local attractions.
We would have no hesitation in returning.

Have just returned from a week at The Old Government House Hotel. A beautiful and charming hotel situated just a few minutes walk from the seafront in St Peter Port. Our Queen room was very smart, equipped with everything you could want and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was lovely with a never ending supply of luxurious toiletries.

Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive, remembering names and preferences, etc. Our hire car was spirited away on our return each day and returned to us within minutes whenever required.

The food was excellent - breakfast was a particularly delightful experience with an extensive choice (smoked salmon eggs Benedict a particular favourite!)

The spa has a sauna, steam room and two jacuzzis as well as a wonderful relaxation room.

I could go on for ages but suffice to say would not hesitate in recommending the OGH to anyone visiting Guernsey! Many thanks - will definitely return soon.

Just back to Australia after a trip including four nights at the OGH. My adult daughter and I were lucky enough to have the Herm Suite (pictured) and what a treat that was. It was spacious and comfortable, extremely quiet, and we felt very much "at home". We also enjoyed the view from the balcony, the attentive and friendly (yet unobtrusive) service, and a delicious dinner in the Curry Room. Breakfast each day was delightful and the Olive Grove was the perfect spot to relax in the sun...yes, there was sun!....with a book. We even hurried back from the Sark ferry one afternoon so we wouldn't miss afternoon tea. All in all a wonderful visit and if ever I'm passing that way again, I will certainly return to this grand old lady of Guernsey. It really is like coming home.
One small thought for management: due to varying winds, it might be an idea to put a little latch on the balcony door so one can close it from the outside as well. [I am a smoker so I wanted to make sure the door stayed closed while I was out on the balcony.] Apart from that, it's praise all the way.

This hotel have great staff, nothing is to much trouble.Excellent brasserie, great choice of food and wine. They also have a resident pianist who plays Sunday lunch and during dinner several nights. If you have a special occasion room 111 is very spacious also have a look at the suites . Due to the bad weather in the channel we stayed for extra couple of nights. The staff were so obliging as our luggage was all ready to leave.Where else would you want to be the OGH it offers the best of everything .Can't Waite to visit again.

Booked hotel as part of a romantic break and decided to hire a car for the weekend instead of taxis from and to the hotel. Worked out much cheaper, not to mention the lack of taxis on the island make getting from a to b a bit hit and miss. The hotel was reasonably easy to find. Hint: park outside the hotel in the loading bay and concierge will happily take your car to their barriered car park.
We decided not to upgrade our room, settling for the 'classic' room. A little on the small side, but very comfortable and a good quality mattress. The staff throughout our stay were friendly and genuinely helpful, with none of the snobbery you often find in good quality hotels.
An excellent breakfast choice of cold meats, through to a full English. My fiancée had eggs benedict, and were truly exceptional.
Overall, an excellent choice whilst staying on this beautiful island. If staying for a longer period you might want to upgrade to a larger room though.

The Old Government House Hotel is full of old fashioned charm and excellent service. The rooms are lovely in period style furniture newly refurbished and immaculate. The bathrooms are wonderful with new fixtures including a separate shower and tub. The standard room is a bit small, but for a short stay is adequate. For anything longer, I recommend upgrading to a larger room. The Brasserie restaurant is light and cheerful, overlooking the gardens and sea in the distance. Our dinner there was delicious, and the breakfasts were delightful English style with all the trimmings. We had a wonderful stay here and would certainly return if we get back to Guernsey.

What a pleasure to stay at this delightful hotel: old world charm and service sadly lacking in most "modern" hotels of today. Sumptious decor in both public and private areas: our 'King' room was just right and bathroom well furnished. We dined in both Governer's (what a beautiful room), and the Brasserie - great food, perfect for any occasion, again with perfect service. We just don't know why we haven't found OGH before (the complimentary bottle of 'bubbles' for our anniversary helped too), but, when I became unwell on the last day the guys excelled themselves right down to the ''hot toddy' - thank you! All in all, a great stay: we are eagerly anticipating our next visit.

I had the pleasure to be hosted in this hotel for few months in a long term business trip. I can only say it is perfect in term of facilities and services with the professionality of the staff being an authentic value added. I was comfortable as if i would be in my own house and even more. Highly recommended.

Location ideal for the centre of St Peter Port with bonus of car parking, which is valet operation and works very well. Staff all excellent with just the right degree of friendliness. Hotel packed with old world charm and public rooms a delight to be in. Classic double room compact but extremely comfortable and well equipped. Although room charges high felt the dinner menu prices could be a little more competitive for guests?

We stayed for our wedding night/honeymoon. The hotel was beautiful, we had a sea view king room with a balcony overlooking St Peter Port. On arrival, the staff had left us some champagne and put rose petals on the bed - this was really thoughtful of them!
We had a fantastic stay, the staff were always attentive, thoughtful and helpful. We made use of the spa and swimming pool. Both of these were well maintained and added to the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel.
Thankyou to everyone at the OGH for a wonderful stay. We felt very well looked after and will definitely be back!
