Booked penthouse and adjoining suite for 4 nights, great value for the luxury.
Had planned to bring the dog but weather cancelled the ferry - staff were then very accommodating in swapping rooms.
Great hotel, beautifully furnish, the friendliness of the staff being a real highlight.
Food excellent - pleased to say breakfast cooked to order with additional cold buffet.
All highly recommended.

Went for lunch yesterday we were a party of 5, we all chose from the Christmas set lunch menu priced at £19.95, as this seemed the cheapest option! All other meals were very over priced, and you had to buy veg separately! The food was average, and the traditional Christmas lunch had no brussel sprouts!
Drinks.... were 4 glasses of wine, 1 mulled wine, 2 soda water with lime & 2 bottles of water.. .
The bill....£157! £14.50 service charge!!
This probably explains why apart from us & 2 other people the place was empty! Such a shame as it's really nicely done out, staff are great..
Would we go back? NO...

A lovely quirky hotel with truly individual furnishings and perfect service. We have had a wonderful time here. Nothing was too much trouble , the staff are lovely, perfect at their jobs and very friendly. We are on a gluten I and dairy free diet and this was catered for well. We even had s special dessert made. Truly spoilt. I would happily stay for longer and would not hesitate to book again.

This hotel is ridiculous, the decor is so completely over the top the guests disappear into the mirrors or wallpaper. The dining room is Bet Lynch's wildest dream, everything was covered in leopard skin patterns including the furniture, the lounge black and white zebra theme it is supposed to be calming but not. Bedroom covered in huge brown flowers, we counted 16 pieces of furniture or was it 17? Comfortable but let down by the bathroom, cheap bath, dodgy shower and a toilet so close to the radiator you had to be very careful not to burn and there was a weird blue night light.
The food was very ordinary and expensive with add on service charges, and the service was extremely irritating, the staff are like robots who have learnt to be hospitable but don't understand why, so there is a constant stream wine, water topping up seemingly by everyone on duty, a constant stream of is everything alright for you? At breakfast we were served again by numerous staff but still found the drinks cold and the breakfast over cooked.
Was looking forward this but very disappointed.

On arrival you know this is not yet another chain hotel where everything is the same and predicable - this is a hotel with character and a unique personality.

The greeting at reception could not have been more welcoming and professional. This welcome and desire to please and deliver came across with everyone memebr of staff I met - what a joy and breath of fresh air.

To say the hotel has it's own style would be an understatement - may not be to everyones choice, but I loved it!

A wonderful hotel with a wonderful set of people who's only objective is to make your stay memorable.

Everything was perfect. Personnel friendly, good services offered and excellent restaurant. Perfect for business trip and also for holidays. Located in a good position, close to the center. Price was average considering others hotel in the island. To recommend!!

This was my first stay here and I have to say my welcome and the attention given was excellent. This theme carried through my whole stay and from all members of staff be it in the bar, restaurant, reception or just passing in the corridor.

Given the price, I found my room small but very well appointed. One of the best showers I have ever experienced in a hotel - one of my key tests.

Breakfasts were superb and all cooked to order. Very good scrambled eggs. My first two evening meals were disappointing in that both the pork (belly) and the chicken (curry) were not as tender as I would have expected. I then decided to try the specials instead of the fixed menu and I have to say I enjoyed every meal, which were cooked and presented to a very high standard.

Food and drink prices were high, and consistent with the room price.

An excellent hotel, but I'm not sure it represents value for money, nor if I would stay there again. I think I need to try another hotel on Guernsey to make a fair comparison

Trip Advisor has just rewarded my reviews of the past four years with a magnetic badge for my car or fridge, so I am now a kept man and this review may not be as impartial as before. My goodness, what a weird hotel! But with the best staff I have ever come across.

The entrance lobby has an anteroom with a collection of animal hide chairs, presumably shot personally by the interior designers before moving on to the bedrooms. I can live with an oversized chandelier over the bed, a tweedy throw over the bottom of the bed with matching cushions (why?) and sheets and pillowcases monogrammed with "DRH" in gold thread, BUT.......who decided it was a good idea to put a creepy blue LED above the loo and a large mirror behind it. Seeking relief at 2 in the morning was a surreal experience - sort of "Fear and Loathing in Guernsey" lit by a single blue downlight with an unrequested voyeuristic element to it. This must have been designed by someone who sits down for this regular bodily function - either a German male (yes they do) or possibly a woman.

More practically, there was no room to swing anything- and more importantly, not enough flat space to put my computer, while the couple of electric sockets were nowhere near a mirror for using the hairdryer. The designers have had a field day and it probably looks great if you're living in a drug-induced haze or come from Brighton. For the business traveller - even after a few Rioja's - it looks a bit silly and doesn't work very well as somewhere to stay - albeit it's very comfortable and mildly amusing.

Having said all that, the restaurant is attractive and the adjoining terrace has a perfect sunlit punkah-fanned conservatory for a superbly cooked breakfast (although the chef got the fried bread stuck up on its edge both mornings - a bit more practice and it might lie flat). I had dinner here on the second night and that is worth a separate review - super meal.

That brings me to the service - wow! My bags were taken from me as I walked in and whisked up to my room. The receptionist (male) out-Jeeves Stephen Fry in the nicest possible sense and the friendly air of competence and helpfulness is palpable throughout the hotel. One female receptionist has a sparkling sense of humour and was a delight.

Would I go back? Nope. The St Pierre Park has a better garden, lots more room and chairs you don't have to check for mortality before you sit on them. It also has a decent desk to work at AND no blue light over the loo. If I want ambience, including sensibly placed bathroom LEDs (either side of the loo at seat height) and a room designed to perfection, then I'll go back to the Farmhouse (see separate reviews).

Congratulations and many thanks to the staff - and remember the old sign "You don't have to be mad to work here, but.....................".

OK - grudging thanks to the hotel designers who gave me something quirky and different for a couple of nights.

We recently stayed at The Duke of Richmond Hotel in Guernsey and highly recommend it. Our room was superbly decorated. The staff are professional, friendly and very welcoming. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit as the food is yummy. This is a Carnation Hotel Group hotel and coincidently we stayed at another (The Milestone in London) soon afterwards. Both hotels are really, really lovely. The concierge knew everything there was to know about Guernsey and his knowledge was most helpful. The Duke of Richmond is a four star hotel howeve I must say it has five star appeal.

A late review but one we wanted to post. We stayed for 2-nights in August to celebrate my wife's 50th Birthday. What a wonderful weekend it was.

The service offered by all staff was phenomenal and nothing was too much trouble. We arrived early morning and the hotel stored our bags whilst we went for a walk around St. Peter Port.

Nika at Reception telephoned us to let us know the room was ready and 10 minutes after being in our room a service call was made to see if we were happy with everything. An extremely rare but welcome touch. Other properties - take note. The room was beautifully decorated with the toilet separate from the bathroom. Our room had a stunning view overlooking the pool with views out to the sea. Sark and Herm clearly viewable. Other areas of the hotel were just as good as our room. This included the Reception and Lounge area, the pool terrace and Leopard Restaurant.

We dined onsite at the Leopard Restaurant and what a beautiful meal it was. The Restaurant staff arranged for a cake to celebrate my wife's special birthday. It was a very pleasant and delicious surprise. Another welcome touch. Breakfast both mornings was exceptional with such a variety to choose from. The open kitchen is excellent as you really get to see how the chef and team go about their duties.

Whilst all the staff were friendly we have to make a special mention to Jan, Bianca & Nika who all made our weekend at the DOR that more special.

I work in the travel industry at a high prestigious cruiseline and the Duke of Richmond more than met and even surpassed our expectations. Thank you to all who made our stay so memorable. We like to experience many places but hope to return one day. It has made us want to try another Red Carnation property.

In a nutshell, the best property we have stayed at for many a year. Faultless. Many a property could learn a thing or two from this hotel.

This no doubt excellent hotel is not situated as per the local map on the right in a village near Cambridge but in St Peter Port on Guernsey. This is the type of detail that can make a difference in one's choice of hotel.

We came for four nights with our dog, and the welcome and service we received was of the highest standard. There was not enough that the staff could do for us. The interior of the hotel and our room was just wonderful. We were going to eat at some local restaurants, but the food and service at the hotel restaurant was so good we spent every night there. We have stayed at many dog friendly hotels, but this one was by far the best. We will definitely be staying at this hotel again and using it as a base to explore further the beautiful island of Guernsey.

Beautiful interior, fantastic food, clean surroundings & toilets, staff who can't do enough for guests, absolute luxury to stay at this hotel or even to visit for a meal or event. Slightly expensive but worth every penny for the quality of everything. Highly recommended!

The only disadvantage is the surrounding hills that have to be walked up & down to get into the town & back, it's ok for able bodied people but not for older people

Very good hotel, excellent customer service, nothing to much trouble. The reception staff referred to me by name for my whole stay (overnight). Breakfast very good and I felt comfortable in the restaurant on my own. Would return both for business and pleasure.

Just spent a four days break in this hotel, I found it to be be excellent in virtually every way. The staff were without exception very efficient and friendly, they attended promptly to any request and made guest feel that nothing was too much trouble. We ate dinner on three nights and found all the food to be very good with well prepared fresh ingridients and well presented. The hotel was very well furnished and comfortable.

We stayed with our children in August and thought it fabulous. The service is faultless and whilst the decor is wacky it's crazily luxuriously wacky - big thick towels, gorgeous linens, money has been spent on the tiny touches, making you feel pampered. The food in the restaurant compares easily to any of the restaurants you'll find in town, so worth staying in for. Don't bring your car though as there are only 5 spaces for all the guests. You won't want the parking stress!

Hotel amazing ! Should be 5 star. Great atmosphere. The interior and furnishings look fantastic.money well spent and us very different to ur average 4star hotel. I would love to stay here again and recommend u book this hotel if u want to make you guernsey experience one to remember. Hotel staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly and really go the extra mile. The walk into town is fine but the walk back is a bit of a killer up hill for 15mins!! The only thing I found strange was in the restaurant the waitress physically picked up the huge specials board and dragged it round the restaurant so u and her could read it?!? Not sure why this was ? Overall an amazing stay!

My husband booked us into this hotel for a 4 night stay and what a fantastic choice. First impressions are the quirky decor but delve beneath the surface and you find incredibly helpful and friendly staff, exceptional cleanliness and beautiful food. There are also lots of really nice little touches such as sun protection creams and chilled juices available beside the outdoor pool. The breakfast was probably the best I have experienced in a hotel. A vast array of good quality foods on the buffet and a good selection available to order. The fresh fruit, yogurts and pastries were so varied and delicious that we didn't even bother with anything cooked. The banana smoothie was amazing!

We recently spent 3 nights at the Duke of Richmond and have no complaints, staff and service were great. Check in was quick and friendly, we had a large room (for us and my 10 year old) which was nicely decorated in a boutique style and very comfortable with plenty of space. There is a small pool which my son braved and a sun terrace. We had breakfast in the restaurant each morning which was very nice with plenty to chose from and the hot breakfast choices cooked separately. The only one niggle I can think of is that there is very limited parking space if you have a car. The hotel is not far from the centre of St Peter Port with a pleasant walk through the park.

I've stayed here before on business and it was good, but coming back with the family wasn't. Parking is very difficult and the various stairs and smallish rooms made it a nightmare with a baby.

If you don't have those handicaps then it's quite a good place to stay in St Peter Port. Decor is great and it's pretty handy for town.

We booked to stay at this hotel for four nights in a Junior Suite. We enjoyed the hotel and its amenities. Our room was superb with a lovely terrace. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom luxurious. The hotel staff are friendly and on the whole well trained. What is there not to love? You are asked on the critique to say why you cannot give a score of ten for the hotel.
1 .I am disappointed that in the restaurant at evening dinner a guest sat close to us wearing shorts, a scruffy sweatshirt and slip on shoes with no socks - hardly smart casual. 2. We do not approve of the pet policy. We love animals but would rather see designated bedrooms where pets can be accommodated and the public rooms being off limits. 3. Smoking is a problem in Guernsey which can in no way be described as a smoke free island and chain smoking on an adjacent terrace meant we had to close our patio doors. I have a propensity to asthma and dog hair and cigarette smoke can be an issue for me. We did not allow these matters to affect the enjoyment we had in such a beautiful place but it will affect our decision on whether to return.

In almost every respect this was one of the best hotels we have experienced in over 30 years travelling. All one would expect from a 4* hotel with particularly good staff - very friendly and most obliging. In the light of this the well appointed room was a disappointment- one of the smallest doubles and ensuite we have ever stayed in. One wardrobe door only opened a fraction, only just enough room to walk round the bed and it was impossible to stand centrally in front of and use the washbasin without burning ones arm on the heated towel rail. Would recommend the hotel but not the standard classic double room.

We have just had a four night stay at this wonderful venue where the food is faultless. We had an unfortunate start to our stay but this was quickly rectified by Helen, who was extremely helpful & courteous. Luis & Louisa, in the restaurant, are an asset to the hotel. This otherwise good hotel would benefit greatly if more attention was paid to detail.

We held our wedding and reception at the DOR Hotel the food and service was first class, they could not do enough for us. we stayed there for 4 nights with all our guests who have all said they would return. i would like to give a special thank you to Mr hilario pinto the banqueting manager for organising everything, and also the chef the other staff members the food was amazing.we had a junior suite and the room was beautiful and very comfortable, we wished we could have stayed longer.

We are from Australia. We spent three wonderful nights at this hotel in August 2013 - it's a pity that our stay couldn't have been longer. The staff members treated us like royalty. The food was excellent. If you are travelling to Guernsey, then we strongly recommend that you consider staying at this establishment. You won't be disappointed.
