We stayed 5 nights in this beautiful hotel and ate every night in the conservatory enjoying really good food and the wonderful staff who came from all over the world. They were extremely attentive without imposing. From the start of our day with great choice of breakfast to sleeping in our large comfortable room we were truly ready to explore Guernsey. We did not have a car and did a ton of walking up and down steep hills The bus service is great and we went around the island.
We did not want to leave this beautiful friendly hotel and would love to return.

Again I travelled to the beautiful island of Guernsey and again I stayed at the DOR Hotel. All staff members have been as polite as always. Especially Olga of the restaurant staff and and Orlando have been wonderful, however, they are too many to name them all individually (although I always try to learn their names during my stay). Being an exotic person in the hotel as I am staying for 3 weeks and this for 20 years by now, I still enjoy the comfort, friendlyness and the good food, especially the daily specials which are made with nice ingredients. I look forward to see everybody again in 2014.

Exceptional balance between friendly and professional. Nothing ever too much trouble for the plentiful staff. Breakfast a real treat with great coffee. Rooms fantastic and bed was the most comfortable I have EVER slept on.
My wife and I and our four-year son were made to feel so welcome in this hotel. We made good use of the heated outdoor swimming pool and the terrace which is a real sun trap until about 4:30pm. Particular thanks to 'Bianca' who made my son some paper boats and 'Orlando' the BarTender who was great fun and most engaging with us. This hotel is simply great. Don't stay anywhere else!!

This hotel runs like clockwork, everything is where it should be at the correct time. The attention to detail cannot be faulted, the staff are incredible and they certainly know how to treat their guests very well. We stayed for 3 nights whilst on business locally and it was an absolute pleasure to stay at this hotel. The restaurant is simply outstanding, there is a relaxed friendly atmosphere but the standards of professionalism never slip - a true credit to the Hotel Manager and his excellent team, I cannot recommend The Duke of Richmond highly enough, the service surpasses hotels I've stayed with charging significantly more, it's excellent value for money. Having been travelling on business for 30+ years it will certainly be my first choice whenever I'm staying in Guernsey.

Long time visitor to Guernsey and was drawn to this place by a review in the Times follwing its 1930s style revamp.
Can't add much to the reviews below. Had the Alderney Suite which is the silver and red one in the ads which was great fun in its own right. Someone thought I was staying in Vagas!
Great service at Breakfast staff swarm round you like friendly bees, food great.
My only down points were that the fixed evening menu cards didn't entice me in for dinner (expected a daily table d'hote) and parking in the locality is a nightmare. Please buy up a bit of Cambridge park! Houskeeping also kept forgetting to replace towels tut tut!
It essentaily has all the ingredients of OGH but slightly more out of town and a little cheaper.

Just returned from another superb holiday where we stayed at the Duke of Richmond Hotel in St Peter Port, Guernsey. Every aspect of the hotel is fabulous, especially the wonderful interiors throughout the hotel. Loved all the little extras - dressing gowns, slippers, bottled water by the bed, lovely toiletries etc. Every member of staff was welcoming, polite, genuinely helpful and committed to your personal service.

The cuisine on offer is absolutely exceptional, both in terms of variety and of quality. The dishes served are truly exquisite. The traditional breakfast is varied and consists of freshly-pressed orange juice, homemade pastries, fresh fruit, cereal, meat cuts, yogurts, and hot dishes (full English, bacon, eggs, sausages etc.). For lunch and dinner, you’re offered the same level of variety and quality.

The terrace and pool areas are fantastic suntraps and offer a tranquil haven, both spacious and well set out with comfy furniture.

Walk into town is only 5 to 10 mins, but quite a steep hill (don’t let that put you off !!), at least it helps to work off the dinner from the many good restaurants in town.

If you want to stay in luxury, be treated as an individual and want your needs to always be the first priority then visit the Duke of Richmond Hotel as it elevates comfort and holiday experience to new highs – you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for one night, staff were very friendly and holpful. There is a good atmosphere in the bar and and great secluded terrace if you prefer to sit outside. I believe the hotel was redecorated 2 years ago and speaking to locals, the hotel is at a high standard.

Although this was only an overnight stay for business I was very pleased indeed with the high standard of this hotel. From the outstanding entrance hall/lobby to the lovely patio at the rear, overlooking their heated outdoor pool. Staff were extremely helpful & friendly & the breakfast was outstanding. The best hotel breakfast I have ever had! My only criticism was the small bedroom. Beautifully decorated, immaculately clean but small. As I was on my own this double room sufficed but had there been 2 sharing you would have felt very cramped. I am aware that larger rooms/suites are available at a higher cost but when looking at the photos on the website be aware that these appear to be the ones in the official photographs & perhaps check before booking if you want to guarantee a larger room for your stay.

I'm biased. I live nearby, but this hotel is superb. The decor is interesting, eclectic and fun. The welcome is excellent every time and the food always excellent. It's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The daily specials are always worth trying. The wine list is select but very good value for quality. Live music on Fridays is worth hearing. What really tops the experience is the friendliness of the staff - attentive without ever being intrusive, they remember who you are and seem pleased to see you. I always enjoy going here.

A special offer tempted us to stay here for 4 nights and have a Junior Suite. This hotel has recently been refurbished and is decorated in the eclectic style which the owner is famous for [I have stayed at other hotels in the US belonging to the Red Carnation group]. It is a 5* hotel yet it is also highly individual and that is why I loved it. The decor in our room was red, black and white with mirrored chest of draws and a red glass chandalier. On the way to breakfast you pass a life size bronze leopard and everywere there are personal touches which make you feel more at home [my husband loved the sweets in big glass jars]. The staff were attentive, pleasant and helpful. The only drawerback [not for us] was the 10 - 15 minute downhill walk into town - which means a steep walk home - but there are lots of taxis if you need them.

I stayed in this hotel on my recent trip to the Channel Islands and I must say it is pure luxury. From when we first landed in Guernsey to when we left for Jersey 3 days later. The staff are polite and professional, who go out of their way to make their guests stay as trouble free as possible. The food is excellent, the rooms are quite spacious and the beds are the softest I have ever slept on. I never wanted to get out of bed because they were so comfortable. All in all a fantastic stay and if I ever go back to Guernsey I will check straight back in.

We had an overnight stay at this hotel and can honestly say you couldn't fault it. It has recently been refurbished to a really high standard. The rooms are sumptuous and ultra clean.

Their outside seating is lovely and their outside pool is heated to a comfortable temperature. They provide cool drinks at all times by the pool, towels are constantly replenished and they even provide sun creams if you need them. We were very impressed!

The staff were the best that we've come across in hotels so far. Very friendly and helpful without being constantly in your face. We had the full English breakfast which was excellent and it was a nice quirk that you could see the kitchen behind glass panels.

All in all a very pleasant stay and we will definitely be returning for a longer stay.

The only downside was that St Peter Port is very hilly and the walk back after a meal out was a bit of a killer. Think a taxi may be in order next time.

This hotel has recently been refurbished to a high standard. It isn't cheap but you get what you pay for - luxury. The rooms are spotless with large comfy bed, maybe a few too many cushions though that seems to be a feature of good hotels these days. Crucially, in the heat of this summer, there is airconditioning. The ensuite is well provided with fluffy towels, larger than average soaps and lots of shampoo, bodywash etc. Hot water, of course. Staff are most helpful, particularly front desk and concierge who will book tours and taxis happily. There is a lounge with newspapers and magazines and good sized pool, which provides cool drinks free. You can also sit on the terrace above the pool, which also has tables out for dining. The restaurant itself has another two areas, a main part and a conservatory. The breakfast is splendid and hot food, which you order, comes quickly. The lunch and dinner menus, especially the evening specials, are very good.
The position of the hotel, almost in the Candie gardens, and a short walk to the harbour or shops, is excellent. There is also a convenience store just across the road. Highly recommended.

My husband and I had a lovely 2 nights here in a King room. The restaurant was spot on, stylish, fast service (all the staff were so attentive) and delicious food. We had lunch on the terrace overlooking the pool, we had afternoon tea (scones were wonderful), we enjoyed a continental buffet followed by a cooked breakfast and my husband made use of the free sweets near reception :)

If I were forced to make a suggestion it would be that the towels in the bathroom were quite small. however it didn't detract from a lovely stay. We had a hire car and the concierge team took great care of it, parking it for us, and ensuring they kept moving it so we never got a ticket :) They brought it back whenever we needed it.

I'm sure we will return.

Took my 82 year old mother for a short break. The hotel was fantastic with the best service I have ever experienced! My mother agreed, even better than her cruise on the QE2 was her words. The attention to detail and thoughtfulness was first class, including parking the car for me each day!!!

First time I've been since the hotel has been re-furished, wow!!! The lobby is stunning and it doesn't disappoint anywhere else. A warm welcome and a stunning, sumptious room, everything you could possibly need. The bar is unusual and classy. The breakfast was really good in the lovely restaurant. The little touches, like sweets in the lobby make such a difference. It isn't cheap but for once you do get what you pay for. Hope they get their well deserved fifth star soon.

Our room was a standard double which appeared rather small when I looked at the pictures of the room on the hotel's website. I though it must be just a optical aberration.... but no, it was that tight... I didn't see any other rooms so maybe they are a bit roomier. that being said I couldn't fault the hotel on anything else! the room was nicely decorated, quiet air conditioner, free safe, nice big flat screen TV, the queen size bed was comfy, nice big pillows and the bathroom well stocked with toiletries. The staff were great! nothing was too much trouble! They were polite, friendly and just interested enough to make you feel like they cared without being overbearing or false. The hotel is located about ten minutes walk from the port with a bit of a climb, but then you get the benefit of being away from town traffic and hence not too noisey should you want to lie in. The hotel has a small pool which is heated, so usuable regardless of the outside air temperature. We only had breakfast as far as meals were concerned at the hotel, but these were great! Plenty of fresh fruit, juices, cheeses, cold meats, Danish pastries.... and a range of cooked breakfasts ranging from the traditional full english to smoked salmon, kippers, pancakes and waffles all cooked fresh and to order! I would definiately stay here again!

This was the first time I have stayed here and I have tried many hotels on the island. As most of the other reviews mention, the staff were very attentive & nothing was too much trouble. The bed & duvet was extremely comfortable & the rooms beautifully decorated. The only disappointment was the bathroom. The shower wasn't great & the bath towels quite small & thin. This however wouldn't put me off returning on my next visit.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at this Hotel, and thoroughly recommend the establishment. Rooms very smart, beautiful linen and comfortable beds too !
Only had breakfasts but absolutely first class.
A special mention must be made of ALL the staff ~ quite the most helpful, friendly and attentive that we have met in a long while ! Well done all.

This is the sort of the 'Little Brother' of the more established Old Government House hotel in St Peter Port. The rooms are styled in a very similar, smart way, beds were comfortable, and we had a great night's sleep the one day we were here. The breakfast is probably the best I've had on the island too.

But what makes this hotel really stand out is its staff - they are incredibly helpful. We arrived very late in the evening, after our flight was delayed and then we had to wait 45 minutes for a taxi at the airport. Not only did they call us to check we were ok (as we hadn't checked in), they kept the kitchen & restaurant open for us, serving us a hot meal as soon as we arrived, with all the attentiveness we'd have expected if we'd been there at a more normal time. The waiter helped us pick an excellent bottle of wine, even ensured the chefs stayed around in case we wanted desert, and were polite & helpful throughout.

I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I had never planned to visit Guernsey nor any other of the Channel Islands but a friends persuaded me to join her on a special trip. Getting there by plane is not the easiest thing but what a pleasant surprise once you reach this beautiful island. Forget about Hawaii and the Canary Islands because its all there at your doorstep. Mind you the weather was absolutly beautiful last week-end but I understand it can be different.

This was our first visit to Guernsey and our first stay in a red carnation hotel. If we ever return, we would certainly choose this hotel. The decor is 'full on' but it works. We booked a slightly larger room which was great and looked out onto the road and the park opposite. There was a little noise from the road but we probably only noticed this as we visited when the weather was very warm and we had the windows open. The ultra violet light in the bathroom was particularly helpful - particularly for any impromptu visits n the early hours !
As mentioned several times, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and made a point of mentioning your name. Nika on reception was particularly friendly both when I rang the hotel to book our trip and throughout our visit.
We ate in the hotel on all 3 evenings of our stay, partly to avoid the walk back up the hill from the harbour/town and partly because the food was so good. The menu remained the same throughout our stay but was complemented by several new additional specials each evening. On the second evening I wasn't feeling too well and asked for a plain chicken breast which wasn't on the menu apart from as an accompaniment to the cesar salad. The waitress couldn't have been more understanding and the chicken arrived just as I had requested.
Breakfast was excellent and included two fruit smoothies as well as the usual variety of fruit juices. There was always a dish of fresh strawberries as well as a variety of other fresh fruit and the choice of hot food was extensive and the quality very high.
We found Guernsey didn't have a lot of attractions that appealed to us - our fault for not researching more thoroughly and found the constant cool breeze a little annoying by the time we left but St Peter Port is a pretty little place with some nice, quirky shops and lovely buildings. For us, the hotel was the highlight of our stay and we will certainly look up the red carnation hotel group for future breaks.

Stayed here for three nights, really lovely hotel, were shown around the facilities when we arrived which was helpful, the room was lovely, staff were friendly and efficient, breakfast cooked to order and some very nice crusty bread, and fresh orange juice. They also do a turn down service so your room is ready for you at the end of the day, with a chocolate on your pillow. This hotel is up a hill so we walked down and got a cab back.
