Having got engaged 25 years ago in Guernsey we decided to return to this lovely island. We are a fairly frequent visitor to Guernsey and have stayed at numerous hotels. The Duke Of Richmond is by far our favourite. Laid back, but professional and very friendly. We stayed on the 3rd floor in a very nicely decorated room that was maintained to a high standard during our visit. The breakfasts were excellent. We didn't have dinner but a bar snack one evening where the service from the kitchen was quite slow. It is an easy 10 minute downhill walk into St Peter Port and a slightly longer 15 minute uphill walk back. Great position. Extremely helpful and friendly reception staff, especially Paloma

We have just had a four night break at the Duke of Richmond hotel and cannot praise it enough. We stayed in a classic room which was lovely. I have never seen such a sparkling bathroom in a hotel before! It was pristine. All the staff were friendly and helpful. For breakfast you could either have various cooked dishes made to order or buffet continental, or both! Too much choice. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the hotel. Although both in our early 70’s we had no trouble negotiating the walk back up from the port to the hotel through Candie gardens. All in all a great holiday.

Our room was a delight - spacious, opening windows, places to sit, plump pillows and beautifully comfortable bed. Superb breakfast with extensive choice on continental buffet and hot dishes cooked to order. Staff very attentive and couldn't have done more to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. I haven't struck a hotel that does an evening turn down service in a very long time. I would love to return and would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Guernsey.

This was our second visit to The Duke of Richmond and hopefully it will not be our last. From the warm welcome we received on checking in until the last minute we had a fantastic stay. All the staff are clearly well trained to treat guests with every courtesy. Our room on the fourth floor was spacious with a sofa to relax on after a day's sightseeing. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and we enjoyed drinks in the bar on each night. As a really personal touch, cakes and a card were left in our room as a lovely surprise for my birthday. Well done to everyone who makes this hotel special.

This is a very comfortable and stylish hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Our room and bathroom were large and comfortable and very well thought out. We had a dinner in the Leopard Dining Room, the food was delicious and well presented, with the best Baked Alaska ever! The walk into the centre of town is 10 minutes and is up hill coming back. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again or in any other hotel in the Red Carnation group.

Just back from a long weekend at the Duke of Richmond and had a wonderful stay. Splashed out on a suite which was great value on a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal. Also got a £50 restaurant credit by booking direct and the dinner we had in the restaurant was excellent.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a mix up with housekeeping one day where towels weren't replaced, but following a call down this was swiftly, and apologetically, resolved. The breakfast was also great, with a good buffet selection and table service of freshly cooked items.
The location was nice, being above St Peter Port but only a 10 minute walk down to the harbour (longer back up!) We had a lovely view across to Sark from our terrace and it was a very quiet spot. (There was a function going on on Friday night, but it either finished early or we slept though it. Either way it didn't really disturb us.)
There is very limited hotel parking, but plenty of on-street parking. 2 hour parking near the hotel and 10 hour parking further down the road. (No restriction 6pm - 8am, I understand.)
All in all, a lovely stay!

We have both stayed and eaten here usually accompanied by our two dogs. There is always a warm welcome from the friendly, well trained staff. Rooms are very comfortable including the dog beds(!) and the food is always good. An all round very good experience.

On Sunday 15 April 2018 I gave a talk at the Duke of Richmond as part of the Guernsey Heritage Festival. It was on the subject of the 17,000 evacuees who fled Guernsey in June 1940, to northern England. I live in Derbyshire so was unable to visit the venue in Guernsey prior to my talk. I therefore had to ask for assistance from the hotel's General Manager, Norbert Stump, via email, in the weeks prior to the event. Upon arriving at the hotel on the day of the event,, Norbert greeted me warmly and completely reassured me that the event would run smoothly. He was correct! The audio visual equipment had been set up prior to my arrival, Norbert had already pre tested my presentation images to ensure that they would appear on the screen clearly. He also, at the last moment, arranged for two of my short evacuee films to be shown, despite his not having received notice of this in advance. A wonderful heritage afternoon tea (the largest I have ever seen!) was served to over 60 attendees and was delicious. Tea and coffee, water and drinks from the bar were brought quickly to all those attending, and nothing was too much trouble for Norbert and his staff. Many of the attendees at my talk were elderly, hard of hearing and had mobility issues. Quite a few are in their early 90s. They were all dealt with kindly and sensitively. Not one person there had a complaint, they only had praise for all that was done for them. I cannot praise Norbert's efforts, professionalism and kindness highly enough. I was also hugely impressed by the actions of his staff. I wish to pass on my thoughts and thanks to everyone at the hotel. I would not hesitate in holding an event held at the Duke of Richmond in the future and fully recommend it to anyone reading this review.

We went to Guernsey for our Silver Wedding Anniversary and treated ourselves to a Junior Suite in the Duke of Richmond Hotel. As it was a special occasion and a better than usual break for us we did a lot of research beforehand to get the right place to stay. That research paid off. In fact, the quality provided by the hotel and the outstanding service from all the staff exceeded our expectations. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel special throughout the whole week. From reception, to room service, to maids, to waiters, waitresses, to restaurant and duty managers, every single person was polite, courteous, friendly and professional. To be frank, the hotel was spotless - couldn't fault the cleanliness. Breakfast choice was extensive and served to perfection. Our anniversary evening meal was something to remember. We would not hesitate going there again. Perfect!

We returned yesterday from a five night break, staying in the Duke of Richmond hotel in Guernsey. Both OAPs, we are pleased to say that this is one of the best hotels at which we have stayed anytime and anywhere.
Our room ( 212 ), was large, quiet with a very comfortable bed. It was kept scrupulously clean with virtually no sign of any room service staff around - a rarity in our experience.
Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming at all times; they were all helpful and gave useful information.A good start and great end to our trip.
Similarly, dining staff were all attentive and well-managed; there was very timely service at both breakfast and dinner; the food was excellent throughout. We would especially mention 'Linda from Latvia' who was always smiling and provided an exemplary example throughout our time at the Duke.
Our compliments to Norbert, the General Manager, and all his staff. We would certainly stay again and thoroughly recommend The Duke of Richmond!

The hotel is both stylish and comfortable. The beds were lovely with really nice bedding. I liked the occasional chairs etc too. I would have preferred a plug in hairdryer rather than the weak one attached to the wall however.

The pool was heated and perfect for swimming. Lots of loungers, towels and suncream provided.

The hotel is in a great location. Right by some beautiful gardens and ten minutes walk to town.

The bar/restaurant and terrace are all very attractive and competitively priced. The bar staff are slow however in preparing drinks.

The food in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed it all and Olga looked after us well.

Staff on reception were friendly and helpful.

This hotel has the best standard of customer service we have experienced for many years. From reception to dining staff to standard of room presentation we could not fault. Breakfast was very good. We would definitely return to this hotel if we visit Guernsey again.

Stayed here for a night on 15 March. The greeting at reception was exceptional they made sure I had everything I needed booked me a table in the restaurant and were very friendly and welcoming. Didn't catch the guys name but he gave a great first impression.

Room was large, clean and had all the facilities you would expect.

Ate in the restaurant the night before the food was good as was the full English breakfast the following day.

I will be back.

We came to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday and we are delighted we did
Check in was efficient courtesy of the charming Paloma, who continued to help us with arrangements throughout our stay.
ably assisted by the equally charming Marta.
The restaurant manager, Orlando, always recognised us and called us by name. On her birthday he wished her happy birthday and presented us with a glass of champagne each with breakfast. The food and service both at breakfast and dinner was excellent thanks in particular to Shirley and Andrea and the Irish Coffee was amongst the best I have had anywhere
George, the barman kept us well supplied and Norbert, the General Manager was the perfect host
Our room (212) was spacious, quiet and comfortable
Finally my wife received a birthday card signed by all the staff as well as cakes on a plate with happy birthday written in icing.
We genuinely felt as though we had spent the time with friends and, on a future visit, will definitely return to the Duke of Richmond

Arrived on my girlfriends birthday, she arranged her cards in the room. The next morning we were given a birthday wish from Olga at breakfast & a glass of fizz each! We then went out for the day but upon return there was a sweet surprise & a birthday card signed by a lot of the staff. Jorge runs a great bar, really nice & friendly, Olga at breakfast was just great! The room is a bit quirky with the deco being a bit Ted Baker, no complaints, great view from our room looking toward the sea at St. Peter's Port, nice bar & great breakfast. Highly recommended, will definitely be back one day.

I stay at the DoR really frequently (most weeks) as a business traveller so I feel as though I have had a very representative set of experiences now, and I would say that there are some really good things about it, there are some irritating things about it that they can't easily change and there are some irritating things about it that they could easily change.

The best things:
Some (but not all) of the staff. Olga in the restaurant and the reception team are all excellent. There has also been one occasion when i was served by a really good waiter at breakfast but I didn't catch his name and haven't seen him since. Friendly and professional, they can't do enough for you and there are nice touches like getting to know your name even after the first couple of visits. They are really welcoming.

The beds are extremely comfortable.

The fresh fish in the restaurant has always been very good and they will take the bone off a Lemon Sole at your table, which is a nice touch.

The breakfast is very good, both continental and cooked, and they will do pretty much a combination of anything you want off the menu.

The design is very stylised and you either like it or you don't, it's a matter of taste.

The less good bits:
Service in the restaurant (when Olga isn't around) is inconsistent - never rude, but often clearly inexperienced staff. For eg drinks orders are wrong or don't arrive at all (dinner and breakfast). Service at breakfast particularly can be hit and miss and I've given up waiting for hot drinks to arrive on occasion.

During February and early March the bedrooms were really cold, I complained about it and heard others do the same. They now seem to have got that sorted out.

The building is old and hence some of the rooms have a quirky lay out - which is one of the things they can't do anything about. I have yet to stay in a room that has a proper shower rather than one over a bath - I really think they should change some rooms to be shower only, particularly because the baths are quite small and in many cases, very awkward to get into.

My biggest irritation is that they scale down the size of the bath towels with the grade of the room. I often get upgraded because I stay there so frequently, but if you are in a Classic Double be prepared that you will almost certainly need to use two bath towels per person because they are so tiny. If you are in a bigger room, you get bigger towels. I find that ridiculous. The first time I actually thought that there weren't any bath towels in the bathroom at all and called housekeeping to bring up some more. They're lovely quality towels, just designed for small children, it would seem.

My suggestion to the hotel would be that they get someone to stay in each room for one night when they aren't busy and use all the facilities - kettle, wardrobe, hairdryer etc, and then report back on every single thing. They can then fix all the annoying little things that aren't quite right - not having a mirror near a power point in the bedroom so you can't actually see what you are doing when you dry your hair; a wardrobe door which, when fully opened, crashes into the hinge on the back of the bedroom door. Little irritating things.

This is an amazing hotel! We were staying in Guernsey to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, the first time we had returned to the island since our honeymoon.
The staff made us very welcome, made our stay very special and went the extra mile to ensure that we enjoyed our anniversary celebration.
The food in the restaurant is superb and Alan (chef) is very talented and cooked a lovely anniversary meal for us. A special mention for Olga, who looked after us very well and Jorge, top bartender and character.
Great location and lovely rooms, thoroughly recommend DOR if you are visiting Guernsey.

Efficient check in and out. Stayed for one night, warm comfortable room with a big comfy bed. A lot of furniture in the room but it worked, bathroom was a little tight but fine. Nice bar, breakfast was tasty and promptly served. Would return.

Stayed here when attending a function at the hotel.

The rooms and common areas are all clean and tidy, I like my room however the common areas felt a bit too "tarted up" for my liking.

Breakfast in the Leopard Bar was lovely as was having a quick G&T on the patio in the evening.

We didn't use the pool but it looked nice.

The hotel itself is extremely beautiful, with bold colours and themes throughout the reception, to the lounge, to the restaurant. The staff were brilliant. Aaron and Paloma were on reception and they were amazing! They were so lovely, funny and friendly. They really made my experience special, I even got a tour of the hotel! Additionally, my dinner was delicious. The staff were so attentive and helpful with my order and offered tailored recommendations. My bedroom was absolutely beautiful! Such a comfy bed. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to visit again!

We have friends that live near to this hotel and they invited us over along with other mutual friends that we have met on previous tours throughout Europe. The idea was to meet up just after Christmas 2017 and celebrate the New Year in at the Gala Ball in the Duke of Richmond. Our Guernsey friends recommended the hotel as we would would be a party of eight staying for 3 Days. We had a fabulous time and have to say the staff at the hotel are absolutely top class, nothing was too much trouble and the facilities were excellent.

Six of us have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel where we also had the Gala Dinner on New Years Eve (excellent). From arriving on the Friday evening to leaving late afternoon on New Years day, every single staff member could not do enough for us. The public areas of the hotel are beautifully decorated and you feel so welcomed and comfortable. Our bedroom allocated room 501 was a corner attic room and exceptionally noisy with the weather, but had lots of facilities included ie slippers, robes, hospitality tray including biscuits. I phoned ahead to enquire about a minibus at the airport and this was instantly arranged by Alisha at the hotel which was conveniently added to our room charges. We were looked after on our arrival by Orlando in the bar who organized delicious food for us even though it was about 9.45pm and this was all on a room credit of £50 supplied by the hotel as part of a stay for 3 nights pay for two. The breakfast at the hotel was fantastic, so much choice and cooked to order, not stood congealing like a lot of other hotels offer. Again the staff were fabulous. The hotel should be so proud of the service and attention to detail their staff provide. Even the General Manager Norburt Stump makes a point of speaking to the majority of people that visit the hotel. The team care about the customers and are very personable and friendly. The whole experience make me want to revisit in the summer with my family. It was handily located within a 10 min walk of the port.
