The Bass and Lobster is a restaurant that has developed well since it first opened. Initially, service was not great but I would now rate service very highly. The staff are professional but still very friendly. For example, we have visited three times over 2012 and the waiter has remembered our wine choices from previous visits.
The decor is quite upmarket and you have the sense you are dining in a classy place. There is a nice buzz about the place without feeling you are being overheard by the next table.
The menu is quite varied and the food and its preparation is high quality. The tasting plate is a favourite and I admire the fact that this is changed regularly. Food always seems to be cooked perfectly and arrives in decent sized portions and hot. We have asked for wine recommendations with our food and the waiter has explained options knowledgeably and patiently while answering our questions well.
Despite the upmarket feel we have always felt that our children are welcome. The kiddie's pasta dish is delicious and tastes fresh while being full of flavour.
The desert menu is delicious and decadent. I can never quite choose what I want!
The Bass and Lobster is fast becoming a favourite of mine. I would highly recommend it.

menu/specials board contained one ingredient unsuitable for my companion in each dish so the chefs (visible thru the glass wall to the kitchen) kindly altered each dish chosen. all the food was fresh, locally sourced and service top class. almost a fine dining experience in a bistro setting and good wine list + comprehensivel bar . not only fish as the name may suggest. more of a special occassion than just out for something to eat

I am a vegetarian and there was nothing on the menu for me. However, the chef was good enough to make a tomato risotto for me which is quite possibly the best risotto I have ever tasted. I understand they have now added vegetarian options to the menu and I can't wait to go back there and try them. My partner loved the sushi. Nice atmosphere

When the sun is shining, and there's a lunchtime specials menu available, then there is no better place to spend a lazy afternoon in the sunshine with a bottle of wine, and good value food.

I have eaten here many times. The food is exceptional and the prices are very competitive. They often have deals.

I had the same menu as a previous review, the cobb salad with pancetta and quail's egg followed by lobster thermidor and a different dessert- but I had it at lunch and it set me back all of 14 Quid!!
I have to say hands down, this was the best value meal I have had on Jersey- or anywhere incl france and the USA. And I have had some quite good meals in Jersey of late as I am reaquating myself with my former home.
It was so hard to make a choice from the menu I had to ask the waitress to come back twice as I couldn't decide which of 3 (there were 5-6) mains to choose from? The staff were fast, professional and courteous. The decor was upmarket gastrpub. There was a large family celebration next to us, and either they were extra ordinarily quiet, or the acoustics are good too as we weren't disturbed.
All in all a faultess meal and I will be back ASAP. And I might even order a la carte as there are so many good things to choose from.

Had the set menu for about £17.00, cob salad with ciabatta, quail egg, & blue cheese dressing, then lobster thermidor finishing off with Bailey's pot & chocolate mousse with orange shortbread. Staff friendly, service quick and good - what's not to like?

Ate at the Bass and Lobster and had the three course set dinner and felt as if we were having a michelin star meal ! Fois gras parfait and lobster thermidor as starters and mains followed by a fantastic selection of desserts or cheese board. Beautifully presented food in elegant surroundings - it did not feel as if you were in a pub !
The waiter that served us was most helpful and pleasant and a true professional. Highly recommended for a taste of luxury at down to earth prices.

Excellent value set menu and the food was superb. Excellent choice on all courses. I had the lobster Thermidor which I was surprised featured on a set menu that costs only £17 for 3 courses. It was excellent along with the rest of the food. Service was efficient and friendly. My wife had the chorizo and squid warm salad starter and said it was probably the best starter she'd ever had anywhere - high praise! Overall cannot recommend highly enough.

We went back to the Bass and Lobster this week on their lunchtime special menu. My last visit was not so good but this time, the Bass and Lobster has excelled. For approximately £14 a head for 3 courses the quality and value of the food was first class. A great starter of chorizo and tempura squid, main course of rabbit and black pudding and a scrumptious dessert. Wine by the glass was generous and reasonably priced and the three of us had a great lunch in relaxed surroundings with efficient and friendly service.
The Bass and Lobster is back on my radar and regains my vote!Well worth a visit.

I go to The Bass & Lobster regularly, the food is excellent and the set menu really good value for a reasonable price. Plenty of choice and excellent specials all well presented. Classed as a gastro pub.

Delicious meal, we had the set menu, which at £17 (I think) was excellent value. None of our party had any food envy, everyone loved the whole meal!

We lunched today at the Bass & Lobster, the Table D'Hote menu was £13.95 excluding service, there was a good and interesting choice for each course, the food is best described as Fusion, it was nicely presented and tasted great, service was efficient and friendly. The choice of wine was reasonable, this is after all a pub and not a Michelin starred restaurant, with wines starting at under £20 a bottle. We had been meaning to try this restaurant for sometime, but had never got around to it until today, which is a shame as we have really missed out.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Jersey.
The food is great, not too fancy and messed around with, but just lovely flavours. The portion sizes are very adequate, just enough to make me feel full but not stuffed so I can't move. Had the set menu tonight which was beautiful and great value for 3 courses and drinks. Can't understand the bad reviews at all, its such lovely food :/

Empty restaurant but staff stood chatting rather than attending to us. Food average...twice cooked chips soggy! Forgot card and was made to feel like a criminal by giving a cheque !

Went for lunch and asked for a table for 2. Although the restaurant was clearly not full, was asked curtly whether we had a reservation. Was then pointed to a table by the waiter who never smiled or made us feel welcome. Food was good but the unfriendly attitude of the waiter put us off going back.

My family really like this place, but I don't. I get dragged there every few months and despite this my opinion of the place doesn't get better
The room is soul less and the tables too small. There is no view. The menu is a bit limited, and given the name you would expect lobster on the menu.... Not always. The last visit a couple of weeks ago was similar to my previous experience. I had Prawn and Calamari tempura starter which had been cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough so it was soggy and oily. For mains I had a rib eye steak which was fine, but the chips and onion rings were cooked in the same under heated oil, so soggy and indelible. Family wouldn't let me complain. Sticky toffee pudding just wasn't either sticky or toffee.
Service not inspiring. Not cheap, Sumas a bit more expensive, better value and a nice view.
Nice Chablis though

We were big fans of the Bass and Lobster, particularly with their £14 for two courses. We went on Friday night and again, it was bustling. We ordered similar things ie the mushroom starter or fish cake and the burger as mains. To be honest, it was all fairly average. I still hear very good reports about it so maybe we were just there on one of those OK nights and maybe it depends on who is cooking your food. The chunky chips are just OK but one of our group couldn't eat hers.
The wine by the glass has gone up considerably and it cost £150 for the 4 of us for fairly average burger and chips and house wine.Sadly I wouldn't rush back as there are better options in the area e.g. Feast.
B&L needs to raise its game and be more consistent.
