Knew this place in 80's as a spit & sawdust pub. Wow has it changed. Nice décor. Menu not huge but plenty of different dishes even on set menu (£18 for 3 courses). Service excellent even when busy and food delicious. We changed our plans to go there for a second consecutive night. Well worth the trip even if you're not staying in the East of the island as we were.

They seemed happy to mix and match between their excellent value set lunch menu and the more expensive a la carte. Good service and great fish!

Booked a table at last minute after arriving in Jersey. It was a Saturday night so was very busy . Very efficient and friendly waiting staff and food and wine terrific. Menu largely fish, as the name would indicate . Good selection of dishes at a reasonable price. Would return .

amazing how the old pub has been transformed into a great eating place. Large rooms, light and airy. Seats a bit hard. Great choice on menu. Sadly could not have set menu as there were not enough customers !!!.
My husband and I had the Italian meats with mozeralla cheese, sundried tomatoes. This was served on a wooden plate, which set it off nicely. Good choice of wines.

Fabulous food in a very pleasant restaurant. Although the restaurant was busy we were given excellent service and the food was cooked well and there was plenty of it. There are no sea views but the sea is just a short walk across the road.

Visited this restaurant again recently and the food is still superb. I ate from the set menu which is excellent value. Although a set menu the food is amazing. I have never had a bad meal here. The staff are friendly and do not rush you.

I have eaten in the Bass and Lobster many times. Unfortunately I have to say that was once good service and decent quality food has slipped to a level which makes me reluctant to go again. I ate from the 'value' menu and had a greasy pâté starter followed by a tiny portioned haddock dish - with a very small pot of over salted peas and over cooked spinach (or what I think was spinach as the taste had been boiled out of it). Our first two courses were served fairly quickly - but for some reason (after giving us the menu) they decided to leave us for over 20 minutes to chose our desserts - even though the restaurant was about half full. However the desserts were delicious. Hopefully they can return to the standard I used to enjoy.

A good choice of dishes was offered on the set menu, I chose the chicken parfait which was absolutely delicious with an excellent texture. My partner chose whitebait which was unfortunately battered and obviously bought in. The tempura catch of the day was pollock, very pleasant but ordinary batter, not light tempura. A good selection of cheese finished the meal. A pleasant experience, would definitely visit again.

I went to The Bass & Lobster with my wife and mother last Sunday (20th Jan). The menu was very different to the menu online (which wasn't advertsided as a sample) which we had very much been looking forward to, however the menu on the day did have some nice options.
I arrived slightly after my wife and mother and, whilst they had their coats taken, no-one asked if they could take mine (not a big issue whatsoever but just one of a number of things that contributed to a feeling of poor service). We had to ask for bread and I had to go to the bar to order drinks - in fact we were never asked if we wanted drinks throughout the meal, except for the waiting staff to ascertain whether they could take the wine glasses away. We also ordered water which wasn't brought until we asked for a second time later on.
The starters (goat's cheese flan) were tasty, although the salsa verde was slightly overbearing. The mains were well presented (our beef was well cooked and the Yorkshire puddings were delicious) however the creamed squash was watery and far too sweet, and the roast potatoes were a little under done and not as crispy as they looked.
Only one of us had desert as the choice was limited and not hugely inspiring, however the one we did have, a chocolate creme brulee, was decent enough.
When it came time to pay we had to ask for the bill twice, and when we went to leave my wife and mother had to get tehir own coats from the ladies' toilet. Again, this lacklustre approach to diners is surely not something that has them clamouring to return.
Overall, apart from one blond male waiter who was very good but unforunately only served us briefly, the service was very innattentive and half-hearted, bordering at times on rude. The food is good, but not so good that I would return in an hurry as there are other restaurants in the area offering more choice and comparable, if not better, service.
Perhaps Sunday was an off-day for them, but consistenly high levels of service is a real differentiator for a restaurant, especially in Jersey, and The Bass & Lobster doesn't appear to offer that.

The Bass and Lobster serves top quality cuisine and it goes really without saying that the seafood on the menu is excellent. The location is quite good being around Gorey Harbour, however, there are some better choices for location actually in the harbour area. Definitely recommend this place.

Six of us visited the Bass and Lobster for lunch today. 5 stars for not resorting to a price inflated Christmas menu as most restaurants seem to have done. Instead, it was the usual excellent value, pleasantly served in nice surroundings. The restaurant wasn't crammed but comfortable with a nice buzz.
Food continues to be outstanding value at lunchtime at £12.50p for two courses and very reasonably priced wine by the glass. Our starters ranged from Whitebait (best I've ever tasted) through to smoked salmon with beetroot (looked delicious) to pate (generous). Bread was delicious and there was plenty of it.
Our mains consisted of chicken stuffed with goat's cheese and wrapped in pancetta with pumpkin risotto (excellent), Pork Wellington (everyone raved about it) to the traditional fish and chips.Everyone agreed that it was a first class meal and with several desserts, copious wine and tip, the bill came to £30 a head.
This really is one of the best value restaurants in Jersey and these days is consistent with its quality. We will be returning!

We went to the Bass and Lobster for our department's Christmas meal. As I have to eat gluten free, I phoned in advance - my food was wonderful! We were served by really friendly, attentive staff; nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was hot, delicious and well presented - the portions were generous and there was plenty to eat! I had the medium Rose wine - I'm not a great wine drinker, but that particular wine was very nice. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere - we were quite loud, but it never seemed overwhelmingly noisy, even though there was another large group in as well.
Food was well priced, as was the wine.Gluten free food was brought without me having to remind anyone, which was quite lovely :)
I would definitely return to this restaurant, both for a meal with my husband, with friends or family

We had a fantastic evening meal here, the food was delicious, My starter was Pumpkin Soup and is the best soup I have ever tasted. The staff were friendly and attentive and the price was very reasonable. Will definitely eat here again if we go back to Jersey.

Yet again I visited the Bass & Lobster on Saturday and I must say the food is absolutely fabulous. You need to try it. I have been to a lot of restaurants in Jersey and most of they all do these very small portions that looks great, think they call it "Nouveau Cusine" and you are still hungry after it. Not here you have a proper dinner it was that good myself and husband left feeling that we could not eat again for another week.

Having heard good reviews I thought I would try out the Bass and Lobster on the Gorey Coast Road with a couple of girlfriends. It has become popular with locals who are now wise to the great value evening menu of £15 for two courses, or £18 for three courses. It was hard to choose from the imaginative choices on the menu, many seafood choices, which didn't disappoint. Well presented and very tasty, good friendly service and an informal atmosphere. I look forward to returning to sample the other choices on the menu. A new favourite for me.

It is perhaps a pity that the restaurant has no sea views given its proximity to the coast, but it really could not matter less because the quality of the food at the Bass & Lobster is consistently excellent. It feels as if each dish, whether fish, meat or vegetable, is prepared by someone who really cares about it, both in terms of taste and presentation. Yet both the lunchtime set menu and the evening menu are very sensibly priced, and the result at lunchtime (at £12.50 for a choice of starter & main course) is fantastic value for money given the high standard of cuisine. I really do not know anywhere that gives you such a gastronomic bang for the buck! The service is attentive and friendly, and the location on the edge of Gorey Village means that parking is not a problem. There is also a good bus service. Top recommendation!

I have never commented on any restaurant before until now and this place inspired me to do so. First trip to Jersey and I would return to have lunch at The Bass and Lobster again. Each course was a joy to look at it never mind to eat, the service was impeccable and the place overall has a lovely non pretentious atmosphere. Could not recommend it highly enough.

Had a lovely brithday meal - group of 7. Service and food all excellent. We had the sharing platter for starter which was very enjoyable and plenty for 2. The only challenge was getting the steak cooked correctly and took a couple of attempts. The assiette of deserts was a winner
