Very nice cathedral with nice staff. Very nice area. Around the cathedral are lots of shops and things. We visited the owl man that was there and my daughters held a bird of pray. We also had McDonald's for dinner and then visited the shops afterwards.

Nowadays, of course, you can find out almost all you need to know about a cathedral from its website but a visit can add so much more. This was certainly the case for Lichfield which I visited on a sunny day out of the tourist season. The striking dark sandstone contrasts with many other cathedrals but the three spires are unique for a medieval English cathedral and in themselves justify a visit since they give you a surprising range of perspectives as you walk round the attractive close.
There is an excellent free “flyer” and a guidebook (£5) with informative text and impressive photos but I was lucky enough to have a very knowledgeable guide all to myself. This was very generous of this lady’s time and I would have had no reason to complain if they had decided to cancel the tour (also £5). Unfortunately, I was limited for time but would certainly visit again, trying to coincide it with a choral service. Highly recommended.

First impressions of Lichfield Cathedral when you look at the amazing ornate masonry work outside is nothing short of amazing. Ruined IMHO by the 'Modern' horse heads and to a lesser degree by the prancing horses but no doubt some artist or other can justify why these abominations have been incorporated into a site with over 1300 years of history.
The exterior alone is worth a visit but beware, if you really want to soak in the atmosphere and properly appreciate all the statues and gargoyles, you will be outside for a long time.
Internally, it is fairly plain by comparison.
A really nice touch is being met by one of the welcomers who spends a few minutes helping visitors become orientated and hands out a short information guide which carries a map and some history of the various parts of the Cathedral.

this cathedral is well worth a visit even just to see the front. there is disabled parking at the cathedral and the town centre is fantastic and very relaxed

Love this double tower for this cathedral it's stunning and full of historical artefacts.

My wife and myself visited Lichfield Cathedral on a Saturday so quite busy, but all the staff and volunteers went out of there way to make sure we found all of the items we had asked about, and many more !
So many items to see, historical and religious. Alterations were ongoing but did not spoil our visit,We will definitely visit again.

Taken the grandkids out and my two year old loved looking around the cathedral. He even lit two remembrance candles. A definite "must do" visit if you're in Lichfield.

We went to see our Daughter receive her Honours for 3 years hard work. A very proud moment indeed, the Cathedral was full, but we arrived early so we had chance to have a good look all around. Breath taking.

What an amazing building - we walked around the perimeter and the grounds before entering ; the tour guides told us a service was underway so we stood at the door to take in the atmosphere but left - It's a fabulously stunning building in an amazing setting , in a lovely city. It definitely has the wow factor....Free entry with donations gratefully received. There were young and old there on the day - all in awe of the whole experience. Lovely grounds to sit in on a nice day - all in all a lovely day or weekend could be spent here in Lichfield.

I took my son to visit this place for the first time, and he found it awesome. It is still the same the last time i visited and that was in my childhood. It so nice to see a place thats a tourist attraction in its own right.

Steeped in history. What a place, takes your breath away. Get a roof top tour if you can. The 3 spires are amazing as are all the statues on the front.

Visited 30.9.15. It is absolutely stunning inside and out. Once you step inside, it takes your breath away, its beautiful. The staff are very knowledgeable and enjoy giving snippets of information, like it took 140yrs to build! There is so much to see as it is massive. We were told the choir practiced at 5pm so we returned to listen they were fantastic. Well worth a visit and the town too with lots of old buildings.

The stained glass windows are beautiful and the stonework is magnificent. There are quite often services taking place so speak quietly & turn off your mobile as they don't mind you walking round when they are. The outside walls are ornately carved although some of the carvings were defaced by soldiers sharpening their swords on them in the past.

Visiting from Canada with our son who lives in B'ham he suggested a trip to see the Cathedral. It was the day of the Bishops retirement. We took our grandchildren who were provided with a great proactive brochure allowing them to look for angels In the Cathedral. Little did we know our son had arranged for us to meet an old friend with whom we had trained to be missionaries. Our friend came from KL Malaysia as rep from Diocese of SE Asia at the retirement. But our joy was seeing him walk into the room we were visiting and recognize him instantly. Great place for a reunion? We were blessed!!

It is the only medieval English cathedral with three spires. The stain glass windows are truly amazing , it is truly an eye opener with the ,You have to go see it to appreciate its stunning workmanship

A beautiful cathedral, majestic and full of wonderful treasure. Open from 10am the church is currently undergoing internal renovations, but still lots to see.

All cathedrals have their stories, and Lichfield has many of its own. But they are what you expect. Go because you are in Lichfield and it is their main attraction.
