Stayed here for our tenth anniversary weekend and it was fantastic. Clean plush hotel, good service, friendly staff. We upgraded to one of the better rooms which was a brilliant size and impressive. I hope the hotel continues to offer rooms at a reasonable rate. We didn't eat here but did use the bar. We will definitely be back. I'm only sorry we arrived too late to use the spa-when I booked the hotel in November it was in the process of changing from De Vere to Bolton Whites hotel so the website was not quite as it is now. Had I known or revisited the website we would have definitely have booked treatments as an anniversary treat. Nevertheless, it was still great. Thanks Whites Hotel.

Stayed here for my nieces wedding. The hotel was set in a great location over looking Bolton Wanders footfall ground, which was the highlight of my husbands stay. The rooms were very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. I would certainly recommend this hotel, and stay there again.

We had an absolutely brilliant weekend to celebrate my birthday on March 1st, we booked for Fri 28th Feb 2014 until Sun 2nd March 2014, everything was spot on, no complaints whatsoever, our room was excellent (336),a very comfy bed, with bathrobes, thick white clean towels..... we had a pitch view room, we watched the Bolton v Blackburn match from our room, it was awesome to watch and loved the atmosphere of it all (even tho I'm not a footy fan myself) it was well worth the money and would do it all again with no hesitation. A very special mention to Andrew (on Reception) and Sally (waitress in the Restaurant) THANK YOU for making my Birthday extra special......see you next time, also to all staff, who do their job efficiently and courteously

Stayed last night at The Bolton Whites.
I booked via booking.com and on arrival at the hotel, discovered that the booking hadn't transferred into Hotel's system, so I didn't have a reservation. The check-in staff was friendly and apologetic enough and luckily they still had rooms available.

The room was not the easiest to find and the lift didn't go to the level it was on. Not a problem for me, but there was a lady with a pram who struggled.

The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Like the other reviewers say, the TV isn't a modern flatscreen but that really isn't an issue - it worked and did it's job. There was an iron and board, two bottles of water and the general hospitality tray. The bathroom was fine and clean and the shower good - although personally, hotter water would have been nice.

Overall, a good, pleasant stay. A good night's sleep had.

Will be happy to stay here again.

basically a nice hotel but lacking a bit of something. We were checked in by a bloke in a tracksuit, very polite and professional, but he was wearing a tracksuit.
the room was clean and nice enough, if a little small, the TV was something from the late 80's and even though the room had been booked for two it was only set for one, one towel set, one bottle of water etc. None of this really mattered really but it was jut the attention to detail that prevents it from being very good.
staff were polite in the bar and restaurant, but beware, getting a cup of tea at breakfast can be hard work as staff go around with the pot rather than leaving a pot on the table so you have to catch their attention to re fill the small cups the staff are very pleasant I found, but if busy it's hard to catch them
could do better but ok

Nice hotel, but a bit lacking in directions signs once you get into the building.
Signage in car park is conspicuous by its absence, but it seems you can park more or less anywhere you please, judging by the totally disinterested response from hotel reception staff, who didn't event seek the car's registration details.
Eventually found my room which was nice, and well equipped (apart from the antique TV) but the carpet alongside the generous double bed had clearly missed cleaning from the previous popcorn-eating inhabitant.
Not nice to be walking barefoot over someone else's leftovers!
Has potential to be good, but let down by mediocre staff who spent a lot of time outside back door/side entrance smoking and making quite a racket below my bedroom window, thereby ending all hope of a restful nap after the 200-plus mile drive to get there!

Just booked for a stay in March. 1st attempt was in OCT 2013 - but was booked out due to system problem?...But that's another story...
However be wary of online breakfast rate.
Best Available Room Only is around 16 per room less (single occupancy) than the Best Available BB rate - so 16 for a breakfast seems steep.
Called the hotel to confirm this to be told breakfast is 7.50 and can be added to reservation on arrival with reception.
Another system error on the online booking facility or a shrewd ploy to charge more than twice as much for a breakfast??
Top Tip - book RO only.
There might even be a stay review soon......

Bolton Whites are an amazing hotel with all the trimmings. Even better they support local charities and people like BYPHS and allow use of their premises which indirectly helps homeless young people. I have stayed and dined here as a customer and the service is outstanding.

A terrific weekend. Everyone loved their rooms. The children had twin-bedded rooms with connecting doors to parents which made them feel safe yet independent. Friendly relaxed atmosphere and staff with attention to detail. Everything possible done to make our weekend a success. Thank you so much.

Since early January I have spent a minimum of three nights per week at Bolton Whites. I last visited in early 2013 and can see the huge improvement since the change of new management. Heatcote & Co who provide the food and bar/restaurant staff have been consistent with their standards as has the quality of bedrooms. I have also recommended the hotel to other colleagues who have nothing but great comments about the hotel (huge relief) - we have even just booked our Xmas party! Credit where is it due this venue is great!

It's attached to my teams football club, reasonable rates, the bar is a relaxing place to be, it's more than a hotel bar it's a local with regulars and great for business meetings, the food is great, the service is friendly and welcoming.

I stayed on a business trip at this hotel. I found a lot of the staff had a 'does my face look bothered' attitude -

The classic being when we requested dessert at our evening meal - to be told " it's too late for dessert" which was then quickly followed with "well truth is I can't be bothered to get it" before walking off.

At breakfast requested coffee four times before giving up.

We used to stay at this hotel alot - then we switched to the next door Premier Inn as the breakfast was better and alot cheaper as kids eat free (Bolton whites charged full price for my 11 year old son) and the beds were more comfy. We decided to give Bolton Whites another go as it has just changed hands. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed. The breakfast was still very cold and the mushrooms were freezing. We stayed in the suite and I was hoping that they might have replaced the matresses on the sofa bed but no...it was so uncomfortable that I ended up sleeping on the floor. The mattress on the double bed wasn't much better. The sofa was still covered with horrible stains. This is such a GREAT hotel and the staff are so helpful and friendly but I'm afraid we will be returning to the Premier Inn. Good point is the pool and sauna/steam room/jacuzzi. This was a lovely way to spend the afternoon

We booked for 2 rooms 1 Penthouse for 2 adults and baby and a normal double. Both excellant value. The Penthouse was amazing value and a good size. Massive bathroom pleasant seating area which we used after dining whilst the baby was asleep. It was Boxing Day and the restaurant was not open but the bar was. We had excellant service with delicious food. The pool was as good ever, loads of parking. The only fault the receptionist did not make it clear that the leisure area although closing at 5.00pm on the day we were there 26th Dec. the last entry was 4.00pm. Pre book the breakfast brilliant food and value.

We have stayed here twice now. Once when it was a DeVere hotel and once when it became independent.

The first stay was ok, we had a room facing the car park which was a little dated. The breakfast was good and all but one of the staff were nice and friendly.

The second trip, we were given a pitch view room which was a huge improvement. Great view (even though there was no match on) and a much larger room. This was much more impressive so like the other reviews, I would recommend the pitch view rooms!

Again breakfast was good and staff were friendly.

They have good swimming and fitness facilities which were well kept. We really enjoyed our stay.

We were very lucky to be invited on a corporate weekend to see my team Nottingham Forest v Bolton Wanderers. We stopped at the Bolton Whites hotel and our experience was as follows-Initial appearance was very impressive the ground and hotel complemented each other very well. The check-in staff were friendly and efficient. We dropped our bags off in a room allocated on the first floor.Room not bad but a little rough around the edges decor looks a little dated? The wall paper appeared textured but it came across as dusty ?All the picture frames looked as if they were covered in kitchen foil and I agree with other comments that the Tv,s (including reception)need addressing ASAP.Meal before the game was excellent and service was good. The match day compare needs a special mention as he is a real peoples person and kept all entertained. The box where we watched the game from was a little strange as apparently it's a bedroom with a bed that folds out of the wall?I am led to believe that you pay a premium for these rooms if stopping the night but it was nothing special? The box had a balcony with a brilliant view and I need to say that all the stewards and staff working the area were the best I've come across. They were attentive and nothing was too much trouble all done with a smile:)Brilliant!Back to the restaurant post match for another beer and cheese and biscuits-again very good.Back to room for shower-The design of the bathroom is a little strange as water gets everywhere as the shower is very powerful but there is only a small shower screen? The bottom of the bathroom door was rotten as a result ( other guests said the same).Went to Wigan for the night (Kings street) wouldn't recommend although I think that's because we are nearing 50?Good nights sleep bed very comfortable then down for breakfast .Staff very good once more but food lacking in quality? All food not very warm and the tomatoes were actually cold!On the whole we would return, the hotel needs a bit of an uplift but the staff and people from Bolton were great and sometimes that's all it takes?

The hotel was a great experience. The food was lovely and the service was even better. However, the young bar staff were quite rude a couple of times by answering "I said I'd be with you in a min" and took about 30 minutes, at one point, to bring me over two drinks.
Overall, it was an OK experience and next time I attend the bar staff will be in a better mood, hopefully.

Love this place very much. Great view from the hotel room. I went there with my friends and we loved it!!

Great staff. We have been traveled some places in UK and Europe and they were great and attentive compared the places that we had before.

Great location, definitely be back.

This is not a complaint but a request to look at 2012 and return to the same format, as I was disappointed with this years New Years Eve Event for the following reasons.

I had pre-ordered my Champagne and Wine in October 2013 and it wasn't on my table. I then had to produce my receipt and photo evidence of my order form only to find out they no longer bought in the makes I had ordered. So my first half hour of the evening was spent trying to sort, the gentleman was very polite and helpful and did his best for me, but it did stress me out as some of the drinks order was not mine and as I had ordered it I felt responsible they were unable to get their pre-order. After sending over to the hotel, they were able to accomodate my request less a bottle of champange which they refunded and another more expensive bottle had to be bought, luckly we had money on us for this.

The food was missing a couple of items advertised in the brochure, but if you were in the back half of the queue, you had hardly any choice as the food was not replenished either quick enough or at all. Also, the food was opened whilst the kids were on the dance floor during a game, making three of my party at the back of the queue so were unable to get food for themselves or their children. Again, as I had booked stressed me out, we had to give the children food from our plates. Can I say the childrens buffet proved very popular with the adults too please make it bigger next year.

The entertainment was NOT the same as last year in the Lion of Vienna Suite Bowdav 1 you must have been in the other suite as last year it was a gentleman DJ who gave the kids prizes on winning games and they were entertained until 11pm and a disco until 1.30 pm. Although I agree, that they worked very hard to accomodate peoples requests, karaoke was not advertised in the brochure. To be dancing one minute then have to sit down the next was silly and I personally do not want to hear people sing every 10 minutes its either a disco or a Karaoke. Maybe a compromise of Karaoke whilst the foods is being served and eaten, kids games till 11pm and dancing until 1.30 pm would be a solution. My daughter is 13 and a massive one direction fan she is at the age where she doesn't want to play the games, but would like to dance and I would like to add even she got fed up with one direction songs by the youngsters at 12.45 pm, they had their time! I would also politely ask them to make sure next year when they set up can they postition their speakers differently as it was directly over our table and it was impossible to sit underneath it, I didn't ask them to move it at the beginning of the evening as I was busy sorting the drinks out, so I have no idea if they could have and I was on the verge of tears after the drink and food shortage.

So no I personally did not have a good time I had an average time as I was upset for half of the evening.

Apart from all this I have complained and my complaint has been dealt with. I will be booking next year when the brochure comes out, bearing in mind they stick to what they advertise ie the wine and champange your order in October is still available if not, a polite email or call would suffice. The entertainment is set out clearly if you are going to do karaoke advertise it then we have a choice to attend or not. Please look at how the food is served or replenished, there will always be people at the back of the queue, unfortunately there are people who feel they need to have larger portions than everyone else and this leaves nothing for the people at the back, maybe serving staff? or a change of menu. This could all be put down to the take over and I sincerely hope next year will be up to the standard we have come to enjoy.

After staying at Bolton whites with my family (Wife & 3 children) I felt compelled to write a review here in defence of the hotel and staff after NYE 2013.

It was quite expensive for us being a larger family but we were very happy with the night. Firstly the rooms were ideal for us. The food was absolutely perfect (even for 3 fussy kids!).

The entertainment was provided by the same couple as last year, Kelly & Mark, and many of our fellow guests were in agreement that they totally worked there backsides off for the whole 5/6 hrs we were there. They spent about 3hrs doing magic and games with the kids which meant us adults could all have a drink without worrying, and then they sang and had a small amount of karaoke (which even my wife joined in with for the 1st time ever!), before letting people dance to all sorts of music. To call them lazy after the amount of work they did is just an insult. I don't know anyone else who would do that, I couldn't imagine working 3hrs with screaming kids and then miserable drunken people. I'm an accountant so thankfully will never have to.

The waiting & bar staff were friendly and helpful, although people complained that there was more guests than staff. Admittedly there were more people buying tickets on the strength of last years successful NYE so that was unexpected I suppose.

After reading one of the other comments complaining about the night it seems that some people expect the world and are ready to complain about every little thing.

We will be definitely booking again for next year and may bring extra friends and family.

A massive thanks to ALL of the management, staff and entertainment team. I may even renew my season ticket. Happy new year to all and see you next year.

Approached by a Canadian, asked to pour half a pint of Guinness on top of half a pint of cider in a packed bar, a lot of barmen would have told the stranger to these shores to jog on, especially if they'd never served such a drink before. Not Pure Bar's Liam Trouesdale, who duly obliged and created a picture-perfect, debut crown float for the Alberta-based A-lister. Pure Class.

A party of five of us attended the New Year`s Eve Party and I had booked 3 rooms a long time in advance ( 2 double rooms and 1 twin). I also paid with my debit card over the phone in advance as I was treating everybody and I didn`t want anyone to be asked to pay. When we got to our rooms, my brother and his wife, who were meant to have a double room, had been allocated a twin so we had been given 2 twins and one double. Luckily, the single lady with us was in a double and was happy to swop.

As we were checking out, each member of the party was asked for £6 for breakfast when I had paid £7.50 each in advance for breakfast for everyone. This caused some awkwardness but was sorted out. It does make me wonder, however, how much breakfast is meant to be!

These things apart, we all had an enjoyable time. My brother and his wife finished up in a pitchside room which he loved as he is a Bolton supporter. We had lunch and drinks in the bar, which was very pleasant, if a little expensive! The rooms were spacious and beds comfortable.

The New Year Party was very enjoyable - plenty of champagne and canapes on arrival, food very tasty for the most part and the band, Hipster, excellent. Only negative points - our table was situated where the waiters came out to serve the food. When the drapes were opened, it became very drafty at our table and my sister-in-law had to wear her husband`s dj. We were also the last table to be served and there was a gap after the main course for a quiz but, because we had been served last, we were still eating as the quiz began and, as I was writing down the answers, by the time the quiz finished, my food was cold so I did not finish it.

I like this hotel as my sister and i come each year for the Lifeline Party Night so we feel at home here. The staff are always warm and friendly. We will be coming again in February.

Casting our minds back to NYE December 2012 we attended and stayed as a family party of 12 and had an amazing time in the Lion of Vienna suite. The children were kept entertained until 23.00pm by the entertainment team, the food was plentiful and the whole event superbly executed. As a family of 4 we rented 2 standard rooms and vowed to return in 2013 only doing things a little different to make the evening 100% perfect.

Then onto 2013...,,

We booked a penthouse family suite in March 2013 way in advance (and paid a non refundable deposit) of NYE December 31st 2013 which allowed a larger room than standard located on the corner of the stadium with pitch view. This was in view of our family of 4 again in one room rather than 2.We were again attending the Lion of Vienna function as 2012 and also pre-booked £100 of drinks at 10% discount in October 2013.

On arrival our room had been given to someone else and we were placed into a compact pitch view room for 2 (with 4 people!). The person with whom we booked and paid for the room was not available to speak to and we had to take or leave the room we were allocated. A great start to NYE. Sadly it only got worse. On arrival to the function our drinks order and that for our whole party of 10 had gone missing. It would seem the catering has changed hands since October and as a result of this a number of issues have arisen although it would have been better to have been informed of this prior to 20.00pm on NYE! Thankfully one of our party had brought the receipt and proof of purchase otherwise there was little doubt we would have been left short. About the function as stated on here by another it was definitely on the cheap with regards the entertainment (spent most of the night either letting the guests do karaoke( little lazy for a DJ?) or insulting various party guests). Far from the entertainment of 12 months before with the children being dumped back onto the tables 22.00pm. Thanks..further the food was sparse and not as advertised when we paid.

All in all we were left underwhelmed mainly due to the success of 2012 and the relative disaster of 2013. Any guests who enjoyed 2013 would have loved 2012 even more! Three days into 2014 and we're still waiting a resolution regarding our room but seeing as the #4 trip advisor rating is proudly presented on the wall in reception it can only be right that all views of customers be listed.

The rooms are indeed acceptable and well presented. The lack of a flat screen and an old analogue menu system on the TV's is outdated. Breakfast is plentiful although you have to beg for tea/coffee to be served.

Prior to booking take a look at the premier inn not 2 minutes walk away on the other side of the road.

About functions would advise to proceed with caution and get everything clear and in writing about what you are paying for so if/when it goes wrong then you have a case to argue. About pre-booking premium rooms in advance I'm not sure what I can say other than nothing is guaranteed and turn up at 11.00am as it seems to be first come first served.

We stayed here as a surprise from my boyfriend for my birthday. I was thrilled. Reception couldn't be more helpful, very informative and polite. we went for dinner in reflections where the food was amazing, I had the seabass followed by a cheese board, which was delicious. The rooms a nice size, clean, and the beds the most comfortable I've stopped in a hotel. We had the best nights sleep. A nice check out time of 11am and we used the leisure facilities with the pool being the perfect temperature. Thank you for an amazing stay.
