The hotel reception staff area great stayed twice now and always very friendly. The pool at hotel is really good as 1.4m deep so can swim. Not like some hotel pools. Shame no jacuzzi though. That is a let down. The restaurant is very good, not a soup fan but was really good. Car park is fine be aware their is 2

I stayed here for a nearby wedding so didn't choose the hotel myself. Check out was at 11am but people couldn't check in until 2pm which was impractical as the wedding was at 1pm. I literally had to throw a strop to access a room so I could change. £70 a night for a room for 1 person is overpriced for Bolton. You would expect them to deal with a group booking for a wedding a little better and be a lot better organised!

Only saving grace was the breakfast, it was plentiful but the serving staff were very slow.

Close to town for pubs and train station. Easy check in with friendly staff. Room was clean, although the air con didn't work I showed my other half how to open the window, after a few attempts he mastered it! There was a wedding party the night we stayed but upon check in we were put far away from them so we weren't disturbed (or they were VERY quiet!)
We didn't book breakfast due to an early start the next morning.

We've visited four times now.
Every member of staff seem to really care about your visit.
Food is very good, quality above previous experiences in similar hotels and waiting staff very professional.
We visit the area every few months to visit family and this is our hotel of preference.
We usually have our 4yr old granddaughter with us, staff very child friendly.

Stayed four weeks on business. The Hotel is fully equipped as you would expect but seems a bit jaded. I had some poor rooms until the last week when I had a more modern room with uprated decor. There was never a mini bar or working fridge in the rooms. I arrived in a heat wave and can tell you the airco does not work..in fact the rooms were always too hot and you cant open the windows fully. It was sometimes very noisy outside at night with lots of sirens and revving engines..even had a helicopter one night..sign of the times perhaps.

Buffet style english Breakfast was sometimes Ok although there were many mornings when it was overrun with Chinese tourists and almost every table was dirty and most of the food had run out. Food in the restaurant was only ok but I was shocked at the prices for such average and small dishes.

The staff were friendly and did their very best they are just overworked. When the hotel is busy they need more staff.

The car park under the hotel is very tight so don't use that if you have a big car. The outside one was ok.

Finally during my last week the water supply was contaminated (no idea with what) and we were not allowed to drink the tapwater. I cannot judge the fitness centre or pool as I did'nt use it.

Holiday Inn have to do better but this Hotel is an example of not much local competition.

I was surprised at the HUGE bedroom we had which meant for once our hotel stay was really enjoyable (with 2 older children its usually very cramped) the decor was nice the fact that we had a sofa bed and a single bed was great and this stay was brilliant value. The beds were very comfortable the room was very clean and the staff in the reception and housekeeping were lovely and helpful. Pool is very run down but adequate and gym looks ok to a non user! 15 min walk to station easy access to town. HOWEVER the restaurant staff (breakfast) were terrible my daughter ordered a pancake when we first sat down we had all finished 20 min later - no pan cake when we enquired it arrived cold no lemon offered or syrup and she looked confused when we asked!! the breakfast on the bar was awful is was cold and the bacon chewy. The other parts of the breakfast were not replenished and we had no service ( i might even say a days inn breakfast service was better and thats really bad!!!) it was disappointing after the service we had elsewhere. The receptionist gave us all a free drink at the bar which was nice when I complained after the first day but we could not even stomach it the second day so did not bother - which meant buying breakfast elsewhere. So book without breakfast would be my advice.

I was at a wedding on Saturday at 12.30pm and check in wasn't until 2pm - I rang prior to my arrival and due to a 'complimentary upgrade' the room wasn't ready. I had to get changed for a wedding in the leisure changing rooms. We returned after the wedding at around 6pm to check in to our upgraded room to find that there was no upgrade, we were given just a standard room. Obviously there had been a change of staff from when I rang in the morning to when I questioned the room and they didn't have any idea that I had been upgraded, but half arsely attempted to 'see what's available', but I refused as it was reasonably late and it would mean moving all mine and my friends things from the other room.

I later found that that due to the massive rush I had left my clothes in the changing rooms. They were not handed in to lost property nor were they still there when I had gone back to check. Had I not been 'complimentary upgraded' I would have been able to get changed in the standard room that would have been available at 12pm, and I wouldn't have had to return home top, legging and braless!

Night staff reasonably helpful but not as expected when I was running up and down trying to find my lost clothes however the morning staff were more polite but my issue still wasn't resolved. Somebody Is walking around Bolton wearing my bra!!

Stayed in the hotel for three nights, arriving very tired after a long journey from Devon. Catherine on reception was absolutely amazing. Even though it was very busy, she made me feel special by arranging a room for me that would be more accessible. The bar staff and dining room staff are all very friendly and efficient. Brilliant Indian menu available at the weekends. My only gripe would be that one of our meals took a very long time to arrive. This has been one of the best Holiday Inn's I have come across.

The Holiday inn Bolton is a nice enough hotel, very much like any other Holiday Inn. My Partner and I have stayed a number of times. Each time we've had the same problems.
1. The bed in each room we've had was so soft we suffered bad backs and a poor night's sleep.
2,. The beds have been on wheels. Sit on the side and it moves across the room.
3. The bathrooms have been in desperate need of refurbishment. The toilet needed repeated "pumping" to get it to flush. The sink didn't empty without intervention.
4. Our room faced the back of the hotel, where the air conditioning units sat on a low roof and woke my partner in the middle of the night.
The hotel has underground car parking which is a plus.
I regularly use this brand of hotel, but the Bolton branch needs some work to come up to the standards of the others.

We chose this hotel for its location as we were visiting family. The room was typical of Holiday Inn - good size decent bathroom. The hotel was hosting a wedding which meant finding staff to serve drinks in the bar challenging. We were put on the first floor above the wedding function so the load music made sleeping difficult. Would have thought the hotel would check that non wedding guests were put away from the noise. Stains on the curtains were disappointing. The breakfast was self service including the tea and toast. The hot buffet was like eating rubber - even the eggs had been microwaved!

I was apprehensive about staying here as a previous visit several years ago was problematic.however was treated promptly and courteously at check in given an upgraded room and late check out for platinum membership.room clean and quiet.star deducted because breakfast still requires improvement.buffet choice could better and coffee and juice machines produce a quite revolting product one of the issues I had 5 years ago.also on the web site it advertises in house movies but they do not. Offer these any more.however the change of ownership does seem to have benefitted the hotel and I would stay here again

Nice hotel, good location, good breakfast, but the evening meal was not too good and quite pricey along with the drink being pricey as well.

We stayed at the hotel for a single night as part of a wedding party.

The bed was very comfy and the room was decently furnished, although the finish looked a little dated and there was a musty smell which only went after we left the window open for the evening. There were tea and coffee making facilities and a large flatscreen TV.

The bathroom looked very dated and definitely needed renovating, but at least the shower was hot.

The wedding took place in the Cloisters Suite and I must say how impressed we were with this. The evening was well managed, service was very good, and the wedding meal was probably the best wedding food I’ve ever tasted. 10/10. It’s worth mentioning that the drinks at the bar were massively expensive – over £7 for a bottle of cider and a soft drink, so be warned!

We had breakfast next morning– all options are covered and I can fully recommend the full English buffet.

As for facilities, the hotel offers limited free underground parking and although we didn’t have time to visit them, I believe that there is a gym and a small pool.

Good hotel, excellent location, wonderful and welcoming staff, clean and well presented room, wifi worked fine, family room was enourmous, car park was free, food was good, bar prices reasonable. So why not 5*? We had booked to use the pool facilities and on the second day of the stay they were closed for maintenance. No warning other than a note on Reception. We would not have stayed here had we known the facilities would mot have been available but it didnt seem like an issue for the front of house staff who shrugged their shoukders and pointed to the sign as if that was an answer as to why planned pool maintenance was not advised via the booking websites.

Second time staying at this hotel and it hasn't improved much, but by the looks of things this is one of the best hotels in Bolton.

Staff & services are great but the hotel needs modernising somewhat. Pool area is nice and clean.

Simple but effective hotel.

This hotel is placed well for Bolton town centre. The staff are very friendly and do try to help on everything.
Rooms good and very comfy beds, nice shower, decent tv, coffee could be better quality but that is just my taste maybe.
Nice pool and gym looks good though didn't use.
Food good and tasty.
Downside do not let hotel get you a taxi as the ones they got for me drivers very very rude. So rude was one I refused to get in his cab and walked into town and got my own taxi, mentioned this to reception and was told they get told this a lot. Which asks the question why do they use this taxi company. Presume some one getting a kick back from taxi company.
Also Sunday house keeping turned up after 3pm on the Sunday afternoon just after I had got back in having been out all day. Was told in no uncertain terms by housekeeper if I didn't vacate the room they would not be touching it. So though pouring with rain back out to get a coffee. Was told once again the hotel was full on the Saturday night and the cleaners had cleaned the now empty rooms first I presume.
Why out to get a coffee well the machine behind the bar was broken most of the weekend. And not once even upon asking would any one get a coffee from the breakfast room which I presume worked.
Still the good outweighs the bad here and would stay again.

Stayed here for 2 nights for our daughters wedding, this is a lovely hotel, staff very helpful and polite. The only problem is the air conditioning is a waste of time. all it does is make a noise but doesn't give any cool air into the room. Breakfast was lovely but think they should use a better teabag as the Twinings is not the most palatable .

Reception staff very welcoming and helpful. At present it is not safe to drink the tap water in the hotel but bottles of water are freely available from reception.

My room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable, but the bathroom was dated and a little dirty.

Room was fully equipped with hairdryer, range of pillows, tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel was very noisy at night and I was woken several times by noises in the corridor.

It would be helpful to have a restaurant menu in the rooms rather than just a room service menu as different items are available. It would also be good to include which dishes are included on the '2 courses for £14.50' menu (Mon-Thurs only).

I ate in Hardies restaurant and the food was quite good. I had to wait a long time to be seated despite there only being a handful of people in the restaurant.

There is a good range of breakfast items including cooked items, cereals, pastries, cold meats, fruit and yogurt.

I have stayed in this hotel on a few occasions - last time was probably 1 year 6 months ago. Stayed in it again approx 3 weeks ago. Staff as friendly and helpful as ever. One noticeable difference - decor has deteriorated significantly in bedroom (I stayed in Executive Room - 3rd floor). A relative stayed overnight about 3 months ago and told me that she thought her room was a bit shabby. I thought I would book anyway. Thought she was just exaggerating. I should have listened to her. Wallpaper blackened in colour around window and around wall edges. Carpet stained - stains that look as if they can NOT be removed (although I have to say surfaces are clean - cleaning staff doing their job right! - I just think carpet needs changed). Rooms obviously need a makeover QUICK! I don't think I'll be back until I'm sure rooms have been redecorated. Disappointed! Time for a makeover! You get an 'average' rating because of the excellent staff - I would have rated lower otherwise.
