After stumbling on this wonderful family- run restaurant in a previous visit to Eastbourne in March, we have been very keen to go back to Eastbourne so we could again savour the gastronomic delights of Anema e Core. The restaurant has now moved from its small premises to a larger and more central location. The food and welcome were every bit as good as before. The cooking feels as authentically Italian (the family are from near Amalfi so the flavours are Neapolitan influenced) as I have ever tasted in the UK. As soon as you walk into the restaurant and certainly when you start eating, it is as if you have been magically transported to Amalfi. Everything that comes out of the kitchen here is made with real love and served with pride by the delightful waiting staff. The ravioli di zucca is the best I have ever tasted and my partner's simple garlic and chilli spaghetti was stunning. Thinking about the tomato bruschetta makes my mouth water- the fresh taste of high quality tomatoes, slightly charred home-made bread all seasoned with the best olive oil, balsamic, herbs and garlic.
We were really lucky to be able to rush back the following day for a final meal before we caught the train home. We tried the huge Neapolitan style pizzas. Again, these are the best I have tasted outside of Naples. The sour-dough base and toppings are so good that it would be a crime to compare them to the inferior products served by swanky London Italian restaurants. The only fault with Anema e Core is that a meal here makes it almost impossible to consider eating at any other Italian restaurant (outside of Italy)! We can't wait until our next visit to Eastbourne to eat here again. Really hope the family running Anema e Core go from strength to strength and congratulate them on bringing such wonderful cooking to Eastbourne.

I am late doing this review, apologies.
- I went to the old Seaside address (they have now moved) venue mid May for my 50th birthday with partner and Elderly parents (over 80 the pair) staff were brilliant with hard of hearing and hard to please parents!Food was SO good, generous portions of GOOD quality ingredients well executed, often you get places sacrificing one or the other, not here. So much so that I have just this minute read the reviews that suggest a change of address has not affected the place and so booked for my friends 50th end of the month (I hope there's availability).
A really lovely place that cares about what it does, recommended.

What a great new location for this popular restaurant. The new venue is spacious and really well appointed with a large outdoor terrace and secluded garden. The warmth of the welcome here never fails to impress and the 'all Italian' staff are so attentive and friendly. On subsequent visits, no matter how long has passed, the staff remember the dishes and wines which we loved - the main waitress, who is lovely, especially know us all well. (it's like being part of an extended family!) The pizza in the new place is even better than before! A must for Italian food lovers!

This is the best Italian I've been in in the UK! It really is like eating in Italy (at least when the sun is shining).
My wife and I went for her birthday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing, and the staff were welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend a visit! (Try the mixed cheese and meat starter (but be warned it is large!!))

We visited Anema e core last week for my Daughters birthday meal .I much prefer the new premises compared to the old one. The service will not be beaten anywhere in Eastbourne, and the food is top dollar. There was 12 of us in the party and we were all so impressed with this Italian.Everybody had a superb meal and evening. For a Wednesday evening, the place was rammed, and they were turning people away,so for a weekend visit book plenty of time in advance.

We were always great fans of Anema e Core when it was in small premises in Seaside Road and now having eaten on two occasions in this lovely new restaurant in Bolton Road, we are even bigger fans. The atmosphere is great and the food is just as delicious, if not more so. More space, better premises and the same delightful homely Italian feel and food. You can't ask for much more really.

Ok, so where to begin....first of all I am always sceptical when I read too many rave reviews....
Well let's just say that they have justly earned them! As for the negative reviews, I would put this down possibly to sour grapes, perhaps from rival restaurants.
This family run restaurant serves Neapolitan food - ok, Neapolitan, not Italian, got that? Because if you don't take it from me, believe me, they will tell you when you go there, and in a very charming way.
By the way, this restaurant has recently moved to their new premises - so again when I learned this (we went within the first few days of the move), I was concerned that there would be teething problems with settling into a new venue - there was no such issues as far as I could see.
So let's get down to business...
Food - Went here with a small group, ordered several pizzas (they are big, and they tell you so, to avoid over-ordering, very gracious of them), salads and desserts (baba and of course tiramisu). All very good indeed. The Neapolitan pizza has a good texture, pliable yet having a crunch at the crust level, fresh toppings and they will cook it the way you want - I always want mine 'well done' as opposed to 'light and still doughy' - Given their pizza oven (on display) cooks at around 400C, this translates to a few more seconds in the oven ;)
Try the fried courgette batons with mint, salt and lemon - a very simple yet delicious dish - I have since cooked it regularly myself. My only slight criticism was the tomato salad with oregano (nice use of herbs) was that the tomatoes were not super ripe and juicy, but I will put this down to an issue of availability of product. We also had a very good bottle of what I think was the house red.For dessert we had the 'baba' - for the uninitiated (like myself), this is effectively a format of panettone/sponge cake soaked in syrup - very nice.
Of course we had to try the tiramisu - as good as the best I've had.As a side note, I kept an eye on what other tables were eating, and it all looked good.
Service and Staff - well, I really liked these people - very charming. They really want you to enjoy your experience and they really care about the food. In my view, any restaurant that wants their staff to deliver great service, should send their staff to eat here - it is a case study of how service should be done. Of course it helps that the staff are mostly family and hence owners in the business, thus motivated to give a good experience. Unfortunately I have visited too many other restaurants where staff have a "I don't care and I don't want to be here" attitude. So it can be a challenge to replicate this level of service, but there are plenty of non-family restaurants that also deliver excellent service. Alright, enough about service already.
Decor - The new restaurant has been nicely kitted out - I like that you can see the pizza being cooked. The chef did come over during the meal to ask if we were happy with pizza.
Value - Depending on how many courses you have, you are looking at a range of £10-£20 per head, including wine - very reasonable
Finally - will I be returning here? Certainly.

First attempt at eating at this restaurant was unsuccessful as it was fully booked. The second time we tried, a Saturday night, we found that it was fully booked again. However, the staff found us a table in the bar area. Really pleased that we made it in, the service was excellent, the waitress even advised us about portion sizes (big) and saved us some money. The food was enjoyable and reasonably priced.

Have been to the old Anema e core restaurant many times, and always enjoyed the fantastic food and service......so really wanted to try the new Bolton Road venue.
It is easily the best Italian restaurant in Eastbourne.....and possibly the best restaurant overall!
Food is outstanding - a real taste of Naples, pizzas and pasta delicious and wines all wonderfully selected.
A great family run restaurant, outstanding!

Went here whilst staying in Eastbourne for a long weekend. Nice restaurant, nice table decorations. Friendly staff. We were really welcomed into this restaurant. The food was lovely and we had garlic bread for starters and it was the best we have ever had. My nephew wanted to know how pizza is made and was allowed to have a look. He came back to the table and the chef came out and asked if he wanted to make a pizza which he did and was given the pizza he made to take home for free! All our meals were very nice and the pizzas are very big. We could not eat dessert as we were really full. Well worth going to this restaurant and would recommend it to anyone. Want this restaurant in our town PLEASE

I took my husband for his birthday last night, first time we'd been. It was lovely. A wonderful warm welcome, beautiful food, lovely atmosphere.
It's lovely to see a family business like this, so glad they've moved into town as we'd not heard of them when they were in the other place and this is way more handy!!
We will definitely be back.

Warmly welcomed at the door around 1800 on a recent week night and chose to sit outside on the patio area which was catching the sun.
Inside the reasonably spacious restaurant there was only a table with about six enjoying their meal, but when we left about 1930 there was not a table to be had for those arriving, just the option of sitting at a couple of free outside tables.
This would seem to sum up the success of this place which apparently opened just over a year ago in much smaller premises and only recently moved here.
The welcome was warm and while the rose wine was not quite warm, it should have been much cooler.
That was the only thing I felt could have been better - it was that good.
The pizza's were fantastic and very large with such a light base you rarely seem to get these days.
I have to mention that they reminded me of pizzas I regularly enjoyed many many years ago in a locally famous restaurant called Spaghetti Junction in Teddington, which is sadly long gone, but which produced the best pizzas I have had in the UK until my visit to Anema e core.
If they can continue to offer the warm welcome, excellent service, fantastic pizzas and chill the wine a bit more, (the Peroni was perfectly chilled!) then I feel they may have to start looking to expand again to bigger premises, or open an additional restaurant elsewhere.

Just got home from our first visit to Anema e Corre. From the moment we walked in we felt like we have come here for years. The warmest welcome, as you would expect from a proper Italian restaurant.
The food was as authentic as it gets, with homemade bread and the best ingrediens you could expect. As to the pizza, if you have ever been to Italy and have tried a Neapolitain pizza, a single bite will transport you back there. And the espresso at the end was the best espresso I have ever had in Eastbourne - very short, hot and earthy, not the bitter black water that you get served elswhere.
The staff was extremely attentive without being intrusive, and made you feel as though you were part of the family.I Honestly cannot wait to come back. Without a doubt the nicest restaurant in Eastbourne.

Wow. I have been everywhere on Eastbourne but this is it. Incredible Bolognese perfectly chewy and amazing pizza. The ingredients are top quality and the service is warm and friendly. This is my new go to Italian in eb. I'd even drive 45 minutes for it.
I have never had Bolognese this good in a restaurant before. Nice tomatoes and a good amount of beef

This was our first visit to their new location and love it just as much if not more.
Went on Sunday for my birthday and they had very kindly put a balloon and card on the table. They remember our names and our favourites on the menu which is such a welcoming touch. My 12 year old daughter loves the fuss they make of her.
Food is fabulous - home cooked and generous portion sizes. Along with the friendly and great service this is still my favourite restaurant in Eastbourne.

Authentic Neopolitan pizza.....Very friendly welcoming staff. My son whose birthday it was said it was the best Italian food he had ever tasted! I have to agree with him. The great new location with larger premises has not taken away the lovely intimate atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!
