Always nice to find somewhere new to eat in Eastbourne. As a town there is very little movement in the Trip Advisor rankings so seeing this place pop up at number 1 it had to be the choice for our next meal.
Reminds me very much of VIP in Brighton.. a very similar kind of restaurant with an absolutely authentic feel and Italian staff clearly dedicated to the food.
"Street food" starter was very good and my Daughter's 14" Pizza really outstanding. Unfortunately for me I'd had Domino's the day before ..so settled for the Seafood Salad. Whilst this was good it was not memorable and I confess I can much make better myself (that's not a boast just my view)
That said .. wine was good .. service cheery and smooth and they even improved my basic Italian for me.
Restaurant is small but not invasively so ...there's some table space at the far end of the building which maybe worth asking for if you want a little more room and privacy.
We didn't have dessert but were impressed by what looked like a huge Brioche with Ice Cream being served to a diner as we made our way out.
Definitely now my Eastbourne Pizza Parlour of choice!

Staff were very friendly. Portion sizes were very generous and very good prices. Very busy (its that good). We had to ring in advance to book a table. Pizza was amazing and was really tasty

A lovely restaurant with exceptional food and service. The Pizza was one of the best I have had anywhere in the world. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not a huge or 'posh' restaurant - but who cares with food so good!

We went here because of the TripAdvisor review and were not disappointed.

Authentic Italian [Naples], well cooked and well presented.

Don't let the unpretentious ambience put you off.

From the outside this looks more like a cafe than a restaurant. But it actually serves quite a range of good authentic Neapolitan food. We had a 'Fritto misto' - mixture of fried fish including big prawns, calamari and whitebait. And a pizza. While I prefer a thin and crispy base, this one was thin but soft which is the true Naples way, and it was good. The waitress was excellent, her boyfriend is the pizza chef, and her dad the main cook. It's all reasonably priced, unsophisticated but good fun.

Very much a corner pizzeria. The surroundings are somewhat plain and the selections are mainly the pizzas. So if you are looking fine Italian cuisine your choices are few. We had a mix seafood bruschetta, which was good though the bruschetta was not very toasty. My Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese was topnotch though my wife's Lasagna was overcooked. For dessert my Torta Al Limone was excellent as was my wife's Sorbetto Al Limone. The service was friendly, prompt and attentive.

Another here who called in midweek based on the reviews here & very glad to have discovered this place, it fills a huge gap between higher end restos & pizza parlours in a much-needed way, and I really hope it does not change a thing.
Very friendly family run & very proud of their Southern Italian heritage & cuisine, with the Pappa making all the very good bread & doughs.
Take your appetite with you - we over ordered starters with calamari, arancini, suppli plus garlic/mozzarella bread - we could have stopped there given the portion size but we had also ordered gnocchi & tortellini as mains with a decent bottle of red - fit to bursting is putting it mildly..............!
We will definitely be back - try it - you won't be disappointed..!

We visited this restaurant as a couple for an early dinner and from start to finish it was a beautiful experience.
The welcome from the delightful Italian waitress was genuine and warm which set the tone for the rest of our meal.My wife had one of the Neapolitan pizzas which must be the freshest pizza I have ever tasted (I couldn't resist trying it myself!) and I had the meatballs and spaghetti which was simple but really delicious...just how it should be.
There is nothing pretentious about this restaurant. The decor is simple and basic but with a genuine Italian feel about it. I judge a restaurant by the food and the service and Anema e core scores 5/5 in both of these areas. Home cooked food and genuine Italian service....what more could you ask for?!!!

This family-run business is the real deal for an authentic italian pizza in Eastbourne! I had the most simple pizza (margherita) and it tasted delicious! the dough is just amazing! Staff is also very friendly and kind, always careful in making sure you need anything but also discrete!
Great place to eat a quick and cheap bite

Having decided to spend the day in Eastbourne, rather than travelling beyond as on other days of my stay, I tracked down this (TA recommended) restaurant for lunch. As others have said, it is a simple and (definitely) unpretentious Italian restaurant with an interesting Neapolitan menu.
The experience was helped by the smiling and helpful waitress.
I decided to go with the two course lunch menu. The spaghetti with tomatoes and herbs was fresh, bright and subtle and the portion size was just right for lunchtime. The ice cream with chocolate sauce (but no flake, even though advertised - and I was asked and said yes) was okay, but not really to the same standard.
The accompanying glass of red wine was reasonable for the price.
While I would return on another occasion, there are (for only slightly more) other Italian restaurants worth visiting in Eastbourne.

The food here is truly, hand on "core", fantastic. It is truly difficult to find food cooked in the style of my Italian zie anywhere in the UK, but this evening I felt like I was back in Italy! There is a magic to true Italian cooking. It borders on alchemy, and it cannot be mimicked. People brought up with the foreign misunderstanding and misinterpretation of Italian food might not "get" it. If you have never truly travelled or lived in Italy, you might not understand it. And our palettes in the UK have lost so much to the excess of overly rich sauces, burned garlic and onion, or spices that cover over the delicate flavours of good quality meats and vegetables. But if you want real Italian food, cooked and served real by Italians, who only left Italy less than a year ago (& served by their most wonderful, truly Southern Italian daughter!!), then I urge you to travel down from the North, travel across from the farthest most corners of the West, skip down from London, or swim across the channel from France. I can tell you, with all my sangue, anima e cuore italiani that this is real, authentic, fabulous Italian food. Go on, try it... you may just want to book yourself onto the next flight to Italy, after getting a cheeky, mouthwatering taste of that heavenly country!

Chose to visit this restaurant purely because of it's high rating on this site. It didn't let us down. Anema e core is a completely unpretentious small restaurant with an imaginative Neapolitan menu which was served by a smiling, helpful waitress who translated the menu so well that I would have happily eaten anything she suggested. The food was well prepared, presented without frills and tasted wonderful. I will be back.

100% Italian! It's amazing good food, I have thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful along with the sicilian wine. A must Eastbourne peeps! Neil is amazed by the sheer size and tastiness of his calzone!
I love that there is an absolutely authentic place in Eastbourne, definitely will be back with our little ones.

We ate at the restaurant on the Friday of the Airshow.
We picked it as an Italian and also highest rated on Trip Advisor.
The staff were wonderful, helpful and friendly, but somehow we found the food lacking. We had a Calzone Pizza and a Pasta dish with salad, but neither of the main courses were that good compared to other recent Italian visits elsewhere.
Not sure why the other reviews are all so brilliant here.

Visited based on TripAdvisor reviews. Not disappointed, excellent fresh food and service. Prices great. Nice little additions like chilly oil. I had the meatballs and really enjoyed them. The pizzas looked lovely also. Grazie.

We enjoyed our meal here - it seemed authentically Italian, and in fact most of the other diners appeared to be Italian. Very friendly restaurant, with emphasis on the food rather than the decorations.

Didn't have to wait too long for food and staff were really friendly.
Would recommend this place to any pizza lovers.

We went to this restaurant simply because we was in Eastbourne for an afternoon, it was in the top 5 restaurants on trip advisor and round the corner from where we parked.
We were greeted warmly by the waitress lia, who sat is down brought cold water over and swiftly took our drinks order followed by our food order, the food is well priced with lots of variety, we shared the cold meat and cheese platter which was huge, great quality cold meats and cheeses, great breads also accompanied the food. For mains we had pizza, calzone & lasagne, all of the food arrived promptly and was freshly cooked, the pizza my daughter had was the best pizza ever !!! That says a lot as she eats a lot of pizza.
Drinks were not to expensive we had the usual Italian lager and the ladies had a very good rose prosseco. We sat down at 5.30 and left at 7, by this time the restaurant was filling with people.
The restaurant is small and more cafe style Italian, something you would find down an Italian side street rather than mainstream chain, it's honest food, good value with good friendly caring service which is missing in many restaurants, Lia explained the food well and told us a lot about the style of home cooked food they serve.

Simple decor and plastic chairs just add to the charm of this delightful little gem. Food made fresh, portions very generous and I will definitely be returning. It's a keeper. You could tell it's a family run business by the care and attention you are given which is sadly so rare nowadays. I felt I was in a back street of a magical Italian city eating with the locals. Simply wonderful.

I think we challenged them. I booked a large group in for a meal (a university reunion) - not quite knowing the layout. I can see why people rave about this place - it is good Italian soul food - highly generous, tasty and authentic to its roots. We thought the food was great, although we over-ordered ridiculously as we had no idea of the portion sizes to the extent that the discussion on the way home was concern about their profit margin as a business. I wouldn't say this venue is suited for a large group and they were very kind to accept our booking - hence the 4 star rather than 5 star.
Staff are superb - food is great - don't be put off by appearances.
