One day I guess all this will be a distant memory, when the coastal erosion has taken the last of the buildings. So don't lave it till then. Wrap up warm in the winter and brave the wind to see this wonderful scene. Visit the centre or just look out to sea. It's worth a visit.

The centre is great and full of interesting exhibits for adults and children alike. Our grandchildren (age 5) really enjoyed the quiz although they needed a little held. The volunteer on duty with efficient and friendly, and clearly was enjoying his work. Well worth a visit. Birling Gap itself, has view to die for of both sea and hills.

Visited this place just before Christmas, so it was a short visit. The weather was cold and very windy but it was still wonderful! Take some warm jumpers and waterproof coat with you. It's another lovely stretch of coastline in Britain. Plenty of parking places and the charges are reasonable. Also there is a small gift shop nearby with lovely gifts, and there is a toilet on site too free of charge.

Don't forget to visit the other site too Seven Sisters Country park just a short drive down. There you can see these cliffs from the other direction with an even better view!

Birling Gap is spectacular at any time of the year. Great walking, great views and a really good cup of hot chocolate at the National Trust cafe. The stretch of Coast from Eastbourne to Cuckmere Haven is beautiful, one of my favourite spots in Sussex.

Birling gap on a sunny day is spectacular, the cliffs shine and the sea sparkles but on a windy and cold day it is also breathtaking. The seas are rough and the waves crash onto the pebbles, it is like no place else on the Sussex coast. After being on the beach and experiencing the warmth of the sun which reflects off the white cliffs a lovely NT cafe awaits you at the top. Better still, when you you get cold a nice cup of hot chocolate. It is my favourite place to explore and be happy. At low tide so many rockpools. Be careful not to sit under the cliffs though as rockfalls do happen during the winter. Lots of parking.

I was here in June this year, with a friend visiting from Italy. We took a long walk over the Downs, and on the way home parked up here for a drink. It was a lovely warm and sunny day, so we took our drinks outside to the seating area overlooking the sea. Stunning views, and a lovely place to sit and relax while enjoying a cup of tea. Nicely refurbished and bright new cafe, and the scone and jam I had was lovely, and the tea perfect. Worth a visit, especially in the summer to take advantage of the views from outside seating area.

Sheer white cliffs- The views are even more spectacular here than at Beachy Head. The drop is so sheer you can't even look over the edge! Plenty of parking and facilities.

Great landscape, You have to visit to understand the place. Standing at bottom of the cliff is sureal and boulders are all white and very strange.

This is a special place to visit with spectacular views. It's not to be taken for granted especially if you are a local. Try to go as often as you can! From the fantastic view point at the top of the stairs leading down to the beach [ideal for swimming in the summer!] newly landscaped & rennovated National Trust cafe and shop to the cliff top walks, gleaming white cliffs and wildlife flora and forna it's a little bit of heaven on earth, honestly. There's plenty of facilities so it's a great place to start or finish walking the Seven Sisters. Everyday it's different from the colours of the sea and sky to the shadows of clouds dancing on the sea, beach or Seven Sisters white chalky cliffs. Fresh cliff falls are a treat to see as the sea dapples the chalk boulders in pristine clean and fresh, almost gleaming, condition around the beach. There's a wonderful hymn with the words "My Jesus, my saviour, Lord is there is none like you, all of my days I wants to praise the wonders of your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength, let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship you. Mountains bow down and the seas will roar at the sound of His name, I sing for joy at the works of His hands, forever I'll love Him forever I'll stand, nothing compares to the promise I have in You..." It's a hymn that comes to life for me each time I visit this place. You can feel the reality in the words as the fresh salty sea breeze blows sense into all your senses, you breathe in the purifying cleanliness of the air, soak up the contradictory strength, fragility and majesty of the stunningly beautiful white chalky cliffs [even better that Dover!] and you leave feeling the promise of what's to come, something even better and that there's definitely a creator, a grand designer who loves His creation and knows that it is good, wants to share it with you and fill you with a joy, sense of His amazing grace and love and peace that tells, confirms and reassures you, be still, rest in Him and know He is God. More recently they have put ponies to graze there and it was a wonderful experience to see them frolicking around friskily one windy day on the cliff tops as I drove past! Well worth a visit and a superb spot for any photographers - such scenic shots of the scenery around from cliffs, sky, countryside and sea to beach sunsets and sunrises whether the tide is in or out, sunny rainy snowy or windy this is a place to experience whatever the weather! Enjoy!

Great hike from Birling Gap to Eastbourne. Great winding path along the cliff with spectacular vistas to the sea and green fields wit sheep. Food offered in the restaurant at Birlig Gap only a notch better than fast food.

Birling Gap is a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year. Brilliant beach, although you have to be mobile to access it, lots of fun for children rock pooling. Lovely walks across the South Downs.

Spectacular views - whatever the weather. Erosion is eating away at the coastline, and this beautiful spot will disappear. Great starting point for walks along the coast - east or west. Visit the Visitor Centre for a great experience.

We have been visiting the UK from NZ. This site must rank as one of the most outstanding scenic places in the UK. It was heaps better than the "White Cliffs of Dover" that we also earlier visited. It was lovely to see the beach and the wild sea.

Birling gap is a lovely rough piece of coastline, great for rock pooling etc. Personally I feel it's a shame the national trust having taking over there, the cafe is poncey and over priced, the car parking is expensive and they have got rid of the pub, such a shame. Still a great beach to visit

View of sea and cliffs were amazing. Parking was simple and reasonable and the staff in the café were friendly and helpful. They even had gluten free cake, which is important for me and the cooked food looked most appetising. Gift shop was quite good too

We did the South Downs drive from east to west one windy, cloudy and cold afternoon. This is apparently a fairly standard weather forecast for the area, especially at this time of year. Near the end of the drive, there is this place - where there's a dip in the height of the surrounding cliffs & a gap to allow you to scramble down to the rocky, seaweed-strewn beach. Busloads of school kids were here, scrambling up the trails to the cliffs, or down to the beach to get soaked & filthy (won't mom be thrilled to clean all that up?). The beach didn't look that appealing to this elderly couple. A set of metal stairs eases the journey 30 feet or so down. There is a bumpy unpaved parking lot here. You are asked to pay for the privilege, but I didn't see anyone actually paying. But maybe they did. I didn't, because we stayed only briefly. The wind was too much to bear - for all but the indefatigable young scholars. There is a cafe here, and an information center. Up the hill are two unaffiliated B&Bs. They look more lonely & godforsaken than Wuthering Heights. I wonder if the wind ever stops here. I suppose there is a reason every living thing here has grown sideways. My hat is off to those who have done the Seven Sisters hike & tramped all through here.

Having just had a walk round the RAF memorial on Beachy Head and been nearly swept off our feet (literally!) we thought we'd descend into the calm of the Gap - how wrong we were. The wind decided to track us but we remained undeterred though even the act of opening the car doors in the car park door presented a challenge!
At the Gap there is an Interesting NT souvenir shop containing a small but fascinating exhibition that takes you on a historical journey of the area, detailing the extent of the cliff erosion that has occurred over decades.
A new iron platform has been constructed for access to the beach though entry on our visit was barred owing to the near biblical sea conditions, those in authority having deemed that admiring the pounding rollers from a position of safety the preferable option! Viewing point also for the coastline and the spectacular Seven Sisters.
Conditions were marginally less bracing at Cuckmere Haven but we strode courageously forward along the circular walk (part of The South Downs Way) and somehow managed to remain vertical! Not for wimps (but be sure to have provisions and the right clothing).

Stunning views across the English Channel, a fantastic location where you can see England's chalky cliffs on the south downs. There is a National Trust cafe and a VERY informative information centre adjoining the cafe with lots of parking. It does get very busy at weekends during the summer months but a must see experience

Birling Gap comes about half way along the coast if walking from Eastbourne to the end of the Seven Sisters. Therefore a great place to stop off for refreshments and conveniences. The National Trust have built a viewing platform at Birling Gap and there is a NT information point during the summer and weekends

Especially if you are walking the Seven Sisters this is definitely worth a stop. They have a good small exhibition on the cliff erosion and amazingly enthusiastic volunteers to explain it to you. Only down side is the queue on a sunny day just to get a cup of tea. They have just one queue regardless of what you want. so if you are walking the Seven Sisters and there is a big queue go to the exhibition and shop but go on a bit further to belle Tout lighthouse for your cuppa.
