Lots of people visit Beachy Head....so don't miss out on going to Birling Gap - easy access to the Beach via 52 steps and a team of local people who meet up every Friday to clean the beach and keep it nice and tidy. A coffee shop at the top of cliff is worth a visit.

Lovely windy walk today with great views. Do pop into the National Trust exhibition, shop and cafe on site while you're there.

The wind was quite strong (!) but the views were worth it. Pop into the National Trust exhibition to see just how much the coast erodes at this point. Scary!

Fantastic area for rock pooling. Keeps children and adults amused for hours. Always lots to find...starfish, crabs, shrimps, fish and beadlet anemones. Other than a reasonable parking fee it's a very cheap and rewarding day out.
National Trust cafe on site which has excellent toilet facilities.

Birling Gap is a nice little spot on the Seven Sisters cliffs, with access down to the shingle beach, a cafe, a National Trust shop, and a sort of museum about the local area. It's a small part of the coastline, but still very scenic, and the museum was very interesting for just a quick look round. The prediction of coastal erosion in particular was eye opening. A nice stop on your tour around Eastbourne!

Apart from the stunning views and the knowledge of a few films filmed here Birling Gap has one more treat and that’s for families.
I can't think of a better way to spend the day with your children that doesn't cost the earth and is highly educational and bond building.
I have been coming to Birling gap prawn fishing amongst the rock pools for years with each of my children and they have always loved the experience of driving to one of Eastbourne's tourist shops grab a cheap net then find an old plastic bottle and head down to the gap.

Apart from all that the beach at the bottom of the staircase is ideal for picnics/ BBq's and swimming etc

Granted in the past the car park was free but if you are still not happy giving a few pounds to the national trust then park on the verges nearby.

Tip – take a camera and some old footwear if you are to go through the rock pools.

I stopped there as several times before on my walk along the cliffs from Seven Sisters to Eastbourne. If you don't have a car, also accessible by bus 13X from Eastbourne or Brighton. Refreshment, shop and toilets available. Nice place to visit, and I would definitely be back.

Just back from another half day spent at Birling Gap. Lots of rock pools for the kids to explore and lots of sand to play with at low tide. Beautiful views of chalk cliffs, and the downs and a veritable sun trap (be sure to load up on suntan lotion). The cafe / shop is nice enough although it can get very busy on nice days, food pretty good. After a nice stretch on the beach, make sure you walk up to Belle Toute, the cliff top lighthouse - amazing views, take a kite with you. A really nice place to spend a sunny day in/around Eastbourne.

Great quiet beach - with opportunities for coastal and countryside walks. National Trust centre has a good tea room/ restaurant.

poor burling gap . as it has suffered from winter storms some has fallen in to the sea but although nature has a go the powers to be have maintained what is an icon area for the visiting public.there is a café here run by the national trust it can be difficult to get served but you can at least buy refreshments

Worth the visit. Beautiful views from the cliffs and there is a staircase leading down to the bottom to walk along the coast. Very very windy up on the cliffs yet very calm at the bottom. Pay and display for parking but free for National Trust members. There is a cafe and restroom facilities.

Liked the National Trust tea shop and information centre. Very good. Disliked small carpark. Needed a separate ice cream or snack portacabin nearby as the shop was too busy.

Got down here for cafe..... Had lunch... Then went down to the beach... Relaxed there....and then came up walked around the cliff...Saw seven sisters view.... By that time due to some incidents rescue guard came there with helicopters and boat.... and they many places were restricted.... people must be careful here near the cliff edge.... Anyways good weekend break to escape from city.....

What a great improvment since the National Trust took it over. Lovely gardens, clean and tidy, didn't try the restaurant but purchased several items in the shop. Have taken three lots of overseas visitors there in the last six months. We ate in the deli at East Dean, less crowded and a more personal service.

It was extremely windy here but the views were breathtaking. The car parking was expensive and the coffee shop was closed when we were here but we really came for the view.

We loved it here - a stop on the open-top bus tour from Eastbourne. Lunch time, so we had a lovely cream tea before exploring. What views! The National Trust displays were great for fully appreciating the area and what is happening to our coastline.

We stopped here for a short break whilst driving along the coast. Ideal spot for a break with nice view. Cafe was a bit over priced.

This place is great and with a free map we got from the information table, we were able to take a really lovely walk along the cliff top and back via East Dean which I would really recommend.
There seemed to be numerous issues in the cafe however - locals were very fed up as it is the usual run of things there.

Other than the National Trust shop there is not a lot to see. Just some erosion and a view of the cliffs. There is a charge to park too!!
