Car park is free for National Trust Members and there's a café on site. Metal steps allows you to walk down onto the pebble beach for a first hand view of the crumbling chalk cliffs.

Car park also allows you to visit uphill towards the famous lighthouse, but the cliffs are not safe in this area.

Take a camera with you.

Been coming to Birling Gap for about 40 years and we stayed at the Belle Tout lighthouse when it was a private house. It was amazing in its day with a hotel and a bar that had the best jukebox ever . It was all so quirky and really eccentric. It was very quiet then unlike today when its packed with cars and coachloads of tourists. Before the steps we had to get down to the beach by ladder and collect wood which we carried up to Belle Tout. So no health a safety! I like what the NT have done with the old hotel and have opened up the whole building so you can move around without all those narrow corridors . Although I miss the old Birling Gap which was like a piece of forgotten England I will still continue to come here and walk up to Belle Tout for the amazing views. So thank god for the NT who will take care of it meanwhile and not sell it to Tescos or some Oligarch

Stunning views of the Seven Sisters, and a lovely (pebble) beach. Good National Trust café, plenty of parking and public loos as well as those in the café.

We have been there for a one day trip from Surrey. It was only 1hr and a half drive with Beautiful scenery during the journey, so you won't be bored at all! It is amazing place. We will definitely visit again soon.

An excellent place for walking - the Seven Sisters offer a robust route but not over challenging for fit hikers. National Trust cafe has great cakes and scones, local ales and limited choice of wine - but amazing views of the white cliffs and shoreline across the channel. Fab gift shop and info centre - you can even dress up as smugglers!

A great place to see coastal erosion in action. A nice walk along the beach is great, but keep away from the base of the cliffs, due to cliff collapses. This place is a real sun trap with excellent rock pools at low tide. Coffee at the NT cafe is decent.

Birling Gap has changed. Another coastguard cottage has been demolished because of cliff erosion. The old cafe is now a smart National Trust clone with OTT prices but I liked the information room. I miss the old cafe's faded paintwork, rickety chairs and good strong tea.

The storms last winter caused the equivalent of seven normal years erosion and the cliffs seem more threatening. The seven sisters are eight because the cliff edge has moved so far back another hill has been included.

The breeze is still bracing and it is so invigorating to walk along the shore (keeping one eye on the cliff!)

The car park is free to Trust members.

A load of the cliff came away in the Christmas storms but the Council or a national trust have reopened the beach access. Sat on the stones in the sunshine for an hour before moving on to Beachy Head. Bliss. How much longer this will all be here is anyone's guess. So much has disappeared since I was a little girl.l

We did a day trip from soggy wet London and were delighted to find it was not raining in the Eastbourne area. We parked at Birling Gap and walked to Beachy head and back to Birling Gap. Stunning views and wild flowers in abundance. The bracing sea breeze was just perfect for blowing away the cobwebs. When we got back to Birling Gap the tide was out so we went down to the beach and investigated the rock pools. We were like kids looking in the rock pools. Great fun.

Must visit before it has all gone to the sea. The long set of houses now reduced to just a couple, so sad to see them being claimed by the sea.

A must visit to the Sussex coastline with plenty of walking if you want to. This is a National Trust site and members park for free. A new viewing platform, while visually intrusive, has proved popular.

The winter storms this year eroded so much of the chalk cliffs of this amazing Beaty spot. A must see if you are in the area. Note car parking charges are payable.

Amazing location like no other, don't forget parking fee.
National Trust Cafe and Shop, worth a visit if you are in Eastbourne.

Knew it well once -now the National Trust have taken it over. More like a museum with an expensive cafe attached, progress I suppose

It's 20 years since I left Eastbourne, when I had a part time job at the Birling Gap in the bar/restaurant, so I got something of a surprise when we walked through the door to find a smart visitor centre! We 'd just been battling the wind on the beach and wanted a cup of tea, which the tea room provided in abundance. Then the newly opened exhibition and the shop, both staffed with friendly and informative people finished off the visit perfectly.

All in all, the new lease of life that the national trust has given this site is an enormous improvement!

We stopped here for an afternoon cuppa but once we saw the homemade scones we xould not resist a cream tea. We decided to share one as the scones are quite large and absolutely delicious. I would certainly recommend the cafe for afternoon tea as this is great place to stop and if the weather is good you can sit outside on the cliff top with a view of the seven sisters cliffs.

Hi

Yesterday we visited Birling Gap. The weather was perfect, with a blue sky, warm sunshine and a gentle breeze. The Cliffs and the sea were fantastic and the views inland from the old light house were lovely.
Unfortunately I lost my wedding ring somewhere along the walk from the car park to the top of the clifftop stairs or between the car park and the lighthouse.
I'm offering a £200 reward to whoever finds and returns my plain gold wedding band.

Pay and display seems to be everywhere. Not just along the beach front where parking was once free, but also along the beachy head road and view points, as well as the Birling Gap. We did not stop anywhere.

Used to come to Birling Gap as a child & can remember the 7 original Coast Guard cottages. The scale of the cliff erosion really brings home the force of nature. Lovely view of the Seven Sisters, very nice tea rooms & information centre. The viewing platform & stairs to the beach have re-opened again.

We visited and were blessed with good weather. The NT visitors' centre was newly opened and staff very helpful. The toilets are clean and the cafe looked good. Although we didn't try it. It's a place where you are reminded about the power of nature as the cliffs have seen significant erosion. You are literally on the edge and flowers laid on the side signify that tragedies can happen. We would highly recommend a visit. Take care and take in the beauty.

There's not much to see at first glance. what with the beach being out of bounds. However, do go into the visitor centre and have a look at their display showing the erosion over the last 7-8 years.

Very informative!

Make sure you see the history of the houses,7 where built I believe about 1870 now only 3 remaining the rest have vanished over the cliff through erosion.
