Visited the Burlington hotel with Shearings. Paid extra for an upgrade (quite expensive) but worth it with a sea view room. The weather was exceptionally hot but the hotel could not cope. Several of the radiators were red hot and could not be turned off according to reception. The manager informed us there was no air conditioning at the hotel but we saw several units on the ceilings in the dining room and ballroom area, but reception said they did mot work. If the hotel knew it was going to be that hot they should have arranged for cooling fans to be available (not just one or two. Reception had fans as did the drivers in the di ing room . unbearably hot in there. Staff very pleasant and worked hard. In the sun terraces the doors used to open but not amy more. The outside of the hotel does not have much kerb appeal, the back of the hotel is very unpleasant. All the corridors need a good repaint amd the dining room a good refurb. The whole place needs money spending on it. If shearings can spend thousands on new coaches they need to spend money on their hotels to get them up to standard. We met a Mother amd Daughter duo from Hertfordshire who made our stay more pleasant.Would we return-not sure!

Just returned from 5 day break with my 94 year old mother. Room was good but had to pay a lot extra to get a decent room with a sea view. I have been bringing my mother for 6 years and although the Hotel was full we found it had really gone down. Staff worked hard and waiters were rushing around, but the food portions were much smaller. Also, the weather was in the 30's, and although there were at least 3 air conditioners on the wall in the dining room none were working, so it was unbearable. We rushed eating our dinner so we could get out of there. We also found radiators on, that were red hot, and was told they could not switch them off. There was no air conditioning anywhere in the Hotel. I know they cannot help the hot weather, but the whole of the Hotel was uncomfortable, and considering most of the residents were elderly this was unacceptable. The lift is a disgrace and corridors are in need of decorating. For some reason English Hoteliers let themselves down compared to Hotels abroad. Owners really need to put some of their profits back into the business. We enjoyed our holiday at the Burlington but don't think we will return.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday and had a brilliant time.
Everyone at the hotel were really friendly and helpful.
The food was delicious with a choice each night of several starters, main courses and sweets and the service was very slick with no delays between courses.
I had seen reviews before we went regarding the decor and service and ok it is an old hotel but I found nothing that detracted from it being a really good holiday.

Food , accommodation and staff all good.
The lack of Sunday night entertainment was very disappointing and we had to go out of the hotel that night which we had not planned to find alternative entertainment as we were not prepared to just sit and drink in the hotel bar all night with no atmosphere.
Also we tried to order toasted sandwiches for lunch at 13.45 and was told by Callum on duty we were too late and yet it clearly stated you could order food up to 2pm. Again we went out of the hotel and between the four of us spent £40 in a very nice local café where the Burlington would have had that money in their till had they had taken our food order.

Revisited the Burlington and used it as a base to visit Festivals in Bexhill and Hastings.
Nice front facing room overlooking the Pier, but as with much of the hotel, very hot.
Food portions seem to be a victim of cost cutting. Only had seven chips with Fish and Chips. (although my wife had nine). Never critical of Bay Hotels as they do offer good value, but cost cutting has to end somewhere, as many guests remarked on the small portions.

This hotel is in a great location on the seafront close to the pier and also to the town centre. We had an upgraded sea view room and my disabled father-in-law had a single at the back. Our room was large and pleasantly decorated with plenty of storage and a large comfy bed. The shower room however was small and would have benefited from more shelving and a towel ring near the hand basin. The toilet flush broke twice during the week and the door only shut with a great deal of effort, however the shower was efficient and the towels were good.the floorboards were terribly creaky but this is often the case in old hotels. The standard of cleanliness was also good.the single room was sadly lacking in storage space but otherwise OK. There was good provision for mobility scooters, and a ramp to get it in and out through the dining room. The reception staff were generally pleasant. The lounge/ bar/ entertainment area were pleasantly decorated but the stairs/ hallways/ doors are badly in need of refurbishment. The food was OK, small portions and over cooked veg but did have some tasty meals and everything was edible. The service however was terrible. Far to few waiters, although they were apparently fully staffed, and totally disorganised. Some of them were quite rude too, but they were obviously overworked. The lifts were tatty and tiny. The entertainment was hit and miss, the female singer one night was so bad we were all laughing. All in all it seems that Shearings are trying too hard to cut costs when it would not take much to make this hotel so much better.

We came on a Shearings coach trip and have enjoyed ourselves very much the hotel is a beautiful old building and is refurbishing rooms over a period of time. Our room was really large with masses of wardrobe space and a verry comfy bed. We had a shower which worked well. Our room was on the corner of the building so we had a sea view as well as a view along the seafront. We found the food excellent and served hot. We read other reviews about the food being bad and do not agree. We enjoyed every meal we had served by friendly and hepful staff. Yes the building is a bit tatty in places, but does that really matter when the rooms are very clean. People are too ready to criticise unfairly and just have to moan about everything. We thought the trip was good value for money and we would love to return one day. Thank you Burlington and staff for looking after us so well

Hotel is in a lovely position, if you have a Bedroom on the Front. However the decorations, generally, are very tired and we felt that the standard of the food had deteriorated from what we had experienced at other hotels in the group

Our room was was very pleasant, recently decorated and gave a good view. However the experience in the dining room was less pleasant, the evening meals were not that appetising, possibly because we chose to eat at 7.15 and the food had been cooked earlier and stored for later. The breakfast was even worse, as the choice was minimal and the presentation of the meal poor, bacon and sausages just a sticky heap. Pity, because we have used this hotel quite a few times over the years, and the feeling is that it is in decline, especially some of the exterior decoration and the state of the hallways to the rooms. The decision to do away with Sunday evening entertainment is a poor one. Shearings might regret what they have done.

Visited with elderly parents to celebrate mum's birthday. Stayed in a Superior Double room which was very well appointed, spacious, comfortable and modern. Staff at the hotel were very good, on request and for a small charge organised a big helium balloon, birthday cake and table decoration. Staff all polite and helpful. Food pretty good, you choose your sitting and are assigned a table, plenty of choice. Evening entertainment was a bit lack luster but it was so hot when we visited that we avoided being in the ballroom.

This hotel is ideally located for those who are interested in shopping, there is much regeneration of the area with a wonderful shopping centre. There are theatres, antiques, buses and trains all nearby.
The staff are all very pleasant and helpful. There is a good choice of food on the menu each evening but it is also possible to choose an alternative from the "Fancy Something Different" menu.
We were there during the tennis tournament and the weather was extremely hot. The ageing hotel cannot cope with this type of weather and with restrictions on opening windows fresh, cooling breezes are difficult to come by. Having said all that, I am likely to return

We recently stayed at the Burlington when visiting Eastbourne Tennis. The room was £79 and in the main was Value for money. The room had recently been modernised and painted and with the exception of a few more toiletries (only two bars of tiny soap) was well worth the money. We did find a brown stain on the sheets in the bedroom, However a few things need to be looked into, the day was not a hot one but the room was hot and you can only open the window a few inches for health and safety reasons. Through the night this also had to be closed due to the nesting pigeons that sit on every ledge possible (I agree not much the hotel can do about this). The corridors are quite dark and uninviting. The walls must be paper thin as we could hear every toilet visit made in the night for all the rooms around us. When we mentioned a few things to the manager it was treated with an uninterested look and we were told we were the first to have a problem. The breakfast situation was quite frankly laughable. There is a massive room for breakfast and we were seated by a waiter with limited English. The room was three quarters empty but we had a couple seated right next to us on the joining table. I realise the hotel is busy but is there the need to put people on top of each other. The waitress seated us but did not explain how the breakfast worked, We were given hot water and a tea bag but no milk, when we asked for some it was like we had asked for a hot British summer. To conclude at breakfast the waitress asked us where the couple that were seated next to us had gone (they had finished) We replied that we didn't know as we didn't know them to which the waitress shrugged her shoulders and looked down her nose as if we should have asked them where they were going. Summing up the hotel has good points and our room was clean but we found the staff unconcerned and very belittling of our concerns. Maybe something to look at. We wouldn't stay again.

had a good weekend at the Burlington, have stayed there many times. The room was good but hot as could only open the window a fraction due to pigeons & seagulls. Very disappointed with entertainment as none on Sunday night anymore & resident entertainer,.Mark, does his show Saturday night. Cabaret on Friday night was good. The food was good & varied menu but the dining room was hot. Very strange at breakfast as the hot food was under the ceiling fans!!!!

Really good choice on the menu. Had pork belly off the specials board and it sa a delight. Friends had fish which they loved. Highly recommend this this pub. The village is tiny but probably worth a detour. we’re walkers so actually had no choice of place to eat but it didn’t disappoint

This hotel was very nice comfortable and clean, rooms have been updated but hall ways and lifts are dated. food was good selection and very tasty and very well presented would definitely go again. Entertainment is only at weekends.

My partner and I stayed at the Burlington Hotel in May and had a fantastic time. Having never travelled with Shearings or been to one of their hotels before we didn't know quite what to expect, other than the fact my sister-in-law recommends them and this hotel in particular. I now see why.
We arrived on the coach and were instantly greeted by who we believed to be the hotel manager. After having our cases delivered to our room we had some drinks in the Coffee shop and spoke to the lovely staff there that served us. Our first evening meal was splendid, fast service from the nice waiter and friendly drinks waitress. Tasty food every morning and night, we sent our thanks to the chef.
The entertainment was good every night and we met some lovely other guests staying there too. We enjoyed having a dance! Mark was entertaining and we had fun playing Bingo and doing the quiz.
The bar staff were all friendly and helpful too. The pretty supervisor Isabel remembered our drinks order every time we went up throughout our stay and was just delightful. All the staff were hospitable, we hope their hard-work is recognized as they really made our stay.
The day trips were good fun and our driver very informative. We were blessed with sunshine nearly every day which was a big bonus.
Lastly, our room was pleasant with a great view. The bed was comfortable enough and the bathroom very accommodating.

Thank you Burlington for an excellent stay. We will definitely be back soon!

Have just returned from our break with our aunt and uncle to the Bay Burlington Hotel we returned as we had a brilliant time on our last visit in October. The hotel is in a prominent position on the sea front not far from the pier and the shops it was lovely waking up to the lovely view each morning, the staff at the Burlington are very pleasant and accommodating the self service breakfast in a morning is very good with food being replaced regularly, for the 4 days of evening meals l am afraid did not find the Monday and Tuesday main meal very good on Wednesday the pea and ham soup was awful it had all hard bits in but the rest of the meal were good for that night and the following day l would like to thank our waitress Valentina for the way she looked after us during our stay she is a credit to your staff unfortunately l have given this 4 stars on this review due to the disappointment with the food

Having visited this hotel before, plus other Bay Hotels, we knew what to expect and ,once more, enjoyed our weekend, this time with National Holidays. Our room ,on the back of the hotel, was in a quiet location, but, as usual, our only neighbour had their TV on at full volume from around 5.45am every day and then whenever they were in their room. Personally, we never switch ours on when we are away so we can have a break from it, but that’s just our choice. The room was quite large, clean and adequately furnished, but there were a couple of issues. Our radiator didn’t work, although an oil-filled heater had been provided , but I doubt that it would have been enough if the weather had been colder. The hot water seemed to be on a timer ,so it was no use trying to have a bath outside of these times, which we did one day to find that the water was cold. This time we found the food in the restaurant to be of good quality and we enjoyed all the meals we had. The portions for the main course could be a little larger, but we were never left hungry after all 3 courses. The only issues we had were that the poached eggs from the kitchen were hard-boiled, and the cauliflower, broccoli and carrot medley for 2 had just one piece of broccoli and one tiny piece of cauliflower. Evening entertainment was ok, but the new policy of no entertainment on Sunday evening means that the weekend just ends with a “flat” feeling. We think that ,if there is going to be one evening with no entertainment, it should be Friday when people have been travelling all day and may be tired. Would we stay here again ? Yes, if we wanted to visit Eastbourne again, we would.

First impressions of the Burlington were great. The ladies on reception were extremely friendly and helpful, advising we could leave our luggage in the luggage room whilst we found a parking space. The car park was fully booked so we parked on street. The hotel provide permits at £1 per day which are valid to 11 am and there is lots of available parking.

We were too early to check in, but able to leave our luggage securely which was great. When we came back to check in it was very efficient, friendly and helpful. The ladies were superb, thank you very much!

Our room was lovely, a spacious room with plentiful power points, and a lovely view of the sea and the pier

The Burlington hotel is comfortable very clean rooms but the whole building needs to be refurbished .As we looked out our first floor room the invasion of pigeons outside and pigeon mess all over outside windows staircases must be a major health hazard the front of the hotel is painted but the back of the building is very bad. The staff are very polite and work extremely hard in the dining room bars etc. On the first night a wine waiter second and third no wine waiter as the bar staff member on their own . people backwards and forwards while waiting staff with hot food so health and safety you need to make sure you have a wine waiter each night. Food needs to improve . . Shearings is good value but the dirty pigeons and the shabby building is not fair to your customers and staff who do work very hard . well done all staff.

This was a coach holiday with Shearings and it was worth every penny. This hotel was in a perfect location, along the sea front opposite the pier.
We paid extra for a room with a sea view and it was wonderful to be able to look out and see the pier and people walking along and the beautiful gardens.
We had half board , breakfast , which was a buffet and plenty to choose from. Evening meal with starter, main, dessert and coffee. Good choices but probably more for the older generation tastes understandably.
The staff and Manager were absolutely brilliant as my teenager granddaughter was with me. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We never went on the excursions but caught the bus to Brighton which suited us.
Loved the feel of this hotel and the history of it is very interesting so I was glad that it hadn’t been too modernised so you could imagine how it used to be.
Our room was clean and tidy and we only had one issue which was dealt with effectively and efficiently so big thanks to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable .

Went in April, room lovely - had been updated, meals the same standard as all other Shearing hotels. Some ongoing maintenance re-paintwork in dining room & conservatory needed. Trips out to Michelham Priory Tuesday PM, lovely, Rye & Battle another day 1.5 hrs in each, could have been longer but driver wanted to get back to hotel before local schools came out, but what we saw was very nice. Forget going on coast road through Hastings, in my opinion Hastings needs mega money spending on it, use the extra time spending longer in Rye or Battle as there was much nicer things to see there. We went to Brighton on local bus, used bus pass, 1 hr to get there, loved the individual shops. Very nice weather while we were away, but hotel room was stifling. Entertainment every night, quiz's, bingo, some singing, but layout of concert room meant depending where you sat to what you could see. All in all enjoyed the trip, hotel room lovely, food good, but prefer the smaller Shearing hotels such as Windermere, Melrose & Pitlochry.

Just returned from a 4 day Easter Break at the Burlington. Having read the reviews I did not expect this to be the Ritz. It is a tired hotel, but being very large expect it is a big upkeep. Having said that, to see ripped wall paper as you got out of the lift was not a good sign and the lift doors had seen better days. We booked for a sea view and were not disappointed. Had room 204, lovely large room with a single room attached which was great as had extra wardrobe to use. We are finding at all the hotels now the wardrobes are very small. The room was clean and lovely sea view. The shower was very old and I was not sure how to use it. The receptionist sent up the maintenance man to show me. I mentioned to him how the shower was dripping constantly did it need a new washer. He said no it would all have to be pulled out. The door of the bathroom did not fully shut at times, so you could hear a constant dripping. I hope this will be fixed soon especially with the Summer coming and the water board saying to fix any leaks.

I read reviews about how small the portions of food are, I cannot agree. Every meal we had we had plenty, as did others around us. The meat was cooked really nicely. The sweets were very nice and the soup apart from the first night did appear to be home made, the pepper soup was especially nice. The one thing that was great was how hot the plates were especially in the morning, I have never in all the hotels I have stayed in had that before. The breakfast again I give full marks to and I have stayed in a lot of Bay and Coast and Country hotels and other hotel chains and there was plenty of food, it was replenished constantly and cooked really nicely. Good choice too. The staff at this hotel are excellent all smiling, helpful it really made the holiday and our waitress Maria was especially lovely, always smiling wanting to please and not keep us waiting, she was a star and a real gem.

Another lovely surprise was on Easter Sunday a little cadburys cream egg on our plate at breakfast and a hot cross bun, what a lovely touch, did not know if the hotels still did this so thank you.

The hotel is in a good position shops are just round the corner and the main shops just a bit further on. We had such good weather we mainly stayed on the front and took the open top bus which was excellent. £7.50 Senior rate or £10 adult and you can use for 2 days. As our optional excursion did not run we did the bus, went to Beachy Head you just hop on and off and also Tiger Inn. Very enjoyable. Arundel is worth a visit very nice place with a castle and Worthing we went to and and again had a stroll by the sea and on the pier.

The hotel entertainment we did not really get to see, there were no seats it was very full, but we were happy to sit in the sun lounge of the coffee shop at the hotel.

Yes the hotel needs a bit of painting and fixing and hopefully in time this will be done, but the staff, the food and the position make it ok and of course the brilliant weather we have just had was the icing on the cake.

Thank you all at the Burlington for making our stay a pleasant one and for all your hard work, it really makes a difference to a holiday when you have happy helpful staff in a hotel, especially as we had a bad experience with the coach provided by Shearings for this trip, you all made the difference so thank you, dont let the grumbles from some of the guest get you down. :-)

This is an updated review of The Burlington Hotel, since our last visit in October 2018, we decided to return to this hotel for Easter 2019, the hotel has certainly gone down hill after we visited last year, the meals have gone a lot smaller than they were ,packet soup small portions with just a little veg, the morning buffet was awful the bacon was all stuck together and not done , it certainly shows that Shearings are cutting edges to try and save a few pennies ,There is no entertainment on a Sunday night anymore, which in my opinion on an Easter Sunday when the hotel was full something should of been put on ,when we asked at reception we were told to go next door as they had entertainment on, the only good thing about the hotel are the staff as nothing was 2 much trouble ,and Mark Snow who made the evenings with his entertainment on Friday and Saturday, the comedian who was on ,on Friday night was absolute rubbish
