Having visited this hotel before, plus other Bay Hotels, we knew what to expect and ,once more, enjoyed our weekend, this time with National Holidays. Our room ,on the back of the hotel, was in a quiet location, but, as usual, our only neighbour had their TV on at full volume from around 5.45am every day and then whenever they were in their room. Personally, we never switch ours on when we are away so we can have a break from it, but that’s just our choice. The room was quite large, clean and adequately furnished, but there were a couple of issues. Our radiator didn’t work, although an oil-filled heater had been provided , but I doubt that it would have been enough if the weather had been colder. The hot water seemed to be on a timer ,so it was no use trying to have a bath outside of these times, which we did one day to find that the water was cold. This time we found the food in the restaurant to be of good quality and we enjoyed all the meals we had. The portions for the main course could be a little larger, but we were never left hungry after all 3 courses. The only issues we had were that the poached eggs from the kitchen were hard-boiled, and the cauliflower, broccoli and carrot medley for 2 had just one piece of broccoli and one tiny piece of cauliflower. Evening entertainment was ok, but the new policy of no entertainment on Sunday evening means that the weekend just ends with a “flat” feeling. We think that ,if there is going to be one evening with no entertainment, it should be Friday when people have been travelling all day and may be tired. Would we stay here again ? Yes, if we wanted to visit Eastbourne again, we would.

First impressions of the Burlington were great. The ladies on reception were extremely friendly and helpful, advising we could leave our luggage in the luggage room whilst we found a parking space. The car park was fully booked so we parked on street. The hotel provide permits at £1 per day which are valid to 11 am and there is lots of available parking.

We were too early to check in, but able to leave our luggage securely which was great. When we came back to check in it was very efficient, friendly and helpful. The ladies were superb, thank you very much!

Our room was lovely, a spacious room with plentiful power points, and a lovely view of the sea and the pier

The Burlington hotel is comfortable very clean rooms but the whole building needs to be refurbished .As we looked out our first floor room the invasion of pigeons outside and pigeon mess all over outside windows staircases must be a major health hazard the front of the hotel is painted but the back of the building is very bad. The staff are very polite and work extremely hard in the dining room bars etc. On the first night a wine waiter second and third no wine waiter as the bar staff member on their own . people backwards and forwards while waiting staff with hot food so health and safety you need to make sure you have a wine waiter each night. Food needs to improve . . Shearings is good value but the dirty pigeons and the shabby building is not fair to your customers and staff who do work very hard . well done all staff.

This was a coach holiday with Shearings and it was worth every penny. This hotel was in a perfect location, along the sea front opposite the pier.
We paid extra for a room with a sea view and it was wonderful to be able to look out and see the pier and people walking along and the beautiful gardens.
We had half board , breakfast , which was a buffet and plenty to choose from. Evening meal with starter, main, dessert and coffee. Good choices but probably more for the older generation tastes understandably.
The staff and Manager were absolutely brilliant as my teenager granddaughter was with me. Everyone was friendly and helpful.
We never went on the excursions but caught the bus to Brighton which suited us.
Loved the feel of this hotel and the history of it is very interesting so I was glad that it hadn’t been too modernised so you could imagine how it used to be.
Our room was clean and tidy and we only had one issue which was dealt with effectively and efficiently so big thanks to all the staff who made our stay so enjoyable .

Went in April, room lovely - had been updated, meals the same standard as all other Shearing hotels. Some ongoing maintenance re-paintwork in dining room & conservatory needed. Trips out to Michelham Priory Tuesday PM, lovely, Rye & Battle another day 1.5 hrs in each, could have been longer but driver wanted to get back to hotel before local schools came out, but what we saw was very nice. Forget going on coast road through Hastings, in my opinion Hastings needs mega money spending on it, use the extra time spending longer in Rye or Battle as there was much nicer things to see there. We went to Brighton on local bus, used bus pass, 1 hr to get there, loved the individual shops. Very nice weather while we were away, but hotel room was stifling. Entertainment every night, quiz's, bingo, some singing, but layout of concert room meant depending where you sat to what you could see. All in all enjoyed the trip, hotel room lovely, food good, but prefer the smaller Shearing hotels such as Windermere, Melrose & Pitlochry.

Just returned from a 4 day Easter Break at the Burlington. Having read the reviews I did not expect this to be the Ritz. It is a tired hotel, but being very large expect it is a big upkeep. Having said that, to see ripped wall paper as you got out of the lift was not a good sign and the lift doors had seen better days. We booked for a sea view and were not disappointed. Had room 204, lovely large room with a single room attached which was great as had extra wardrobe to use. We are finding at all the hotels now the wardrobes are very small. The room was clean and lovely sea view. The shower was very old and I was not sure how to use it. The receptionist sent up the maintenance man to show me. I mentioned to him how the shower was dripping constantly did it need a new washer. He said no it would all have to be pulled out. The door of the bathroom did not fully shut at times, so you could hear a constant dripping. I hope this will be fixed soon especially with the Summer coming and the water board saying to fix any leaks.

I read reviews about how small the portions of food are, I cannot agree. Every meal we had we had plenty, as did others around us. The meat was cooked really nicely. The sweets were very nice and the soup apart from the first night did appear to be home made, the pepper soup was especially nice. The one thing that was great was how hot the plates were especially in the morning, I have never in all the hotels I have stayed in had that before. The breakfast again I give full marks to and I have stayed in a lot of Bay and Coast and Country hotels and other hotel chains and there was plenty of food, it was replenished constantly and cooked really nicely. Good choice too. The staff at this hotel are excellent all smiling, helpful it really made the holiday and our waitress Maria was especially lovely, always smiling wanting to please and not keep us waiting, she was a star and a real gem.

Another lovely surprise was on Easter Sunday a little cadburys cream egg on our plate at breakfast and a hot cross bun, what a lovely touch, did not know if the hotels still did this so thank you.

The hotel is in a good position shops are just round the corner and the main shops just a bit further on. We had such good weather we mainly stayed on the front and took the open top bus which was excellent. £7.50 Senior rate or £10 adult and you can use for 2 days. As our optional excursion did not run we did the bus, went to Beachy Head you just hop on and off and also Tiger Inn. Very enjoyable. Arundel is worth a visit very nice place with a castle and Worthing we went to and and again had a stroll by the sea and on the pier.

The hotel entertainment we did not really get to see, there were no seats it was very full, but we were happy to sit in the sun lounge of the coffee shop at the hotel.

Yes the hotel needs a bit of painting and fixing and hopefully in time this will be done, but the staff, the food and the position make it ok and of course the brilliant weather we have just had was the icing on the cake.

Thank you all at the Burlington for making our stay a pleasant one and for all your hard work, it really makes a difference to a holiday when you have happy helpful staff in a hotel, especially as we had a bad experience with the coach provided by Shearings for this trip, you all made the difference so thank you, dont let the grumbles from some of the guest get you down. :-)

This is an updated review of The Burlington Hotel, since our last visit in October 2018, we decided to return to this hotel for Easter 2019, the hotel has certainly gone down hill after we visited last year, the meals have gone a lot smaller than they were ,packet soup small portions with just a little veg, the morning buffet was awful the bacon was all stuck together and not done , it certainly shows that Shearings are cutting edges to try and save a few pennies ,There is no entertainment on a Sunday night anymore, which in my opinion on an Easter Sunday when the hotel was full something should of been put on ,when we asked at reception we were told to go next door as they had entertainment on, the only good thing about the hotel are the staff as nothing was 2 much trouble ,and Mark Snow who made the evenings with his entertainment on Friday and Saturday, the comedian who was on ,on Friday night was absolute rubbish

Stayed in a premier room overlooking the beach, window locked shut in bathroom hence no ventilation, don't have a curry, window frames being held together by paint, rooms not the cleanest. dining room crockery and tableware old, dated and grubby, waiting staff need training when to clear tables and not lean over people to collect plates when others are still eating. Eastbourne is a lovely place and would certainly return... But not at the Bay Burlington.

First the good points. The Hotel is a bit tired in places but clean and comfortable. The staff are helpful and polite. Breakfast is fine if a little understaffed. Unfortunately the evening meals are poor. Glutinous powdered soup, overcooked vegetables in tiny portions. Reminded me of school dinners. I asked for the 'succulent' ahem! pork without gravy and plain boiled potatoes. Almost 30% of the meat was fat. Once removed I was left with a piece of meat smaller than my fork! I have to give hours of notice at reception for 'special requests'. Methinks Shearings may be in danger of taking portion control a little too far.

It is with great sadness that I can only score 3 for this hotel. The room walls are painted grey. I feel a lighter colour would brighten up the rooms. The sink was in the bedroom and not in the shower room. The was not towel rail by the sink. Also there was no mirror for shaving above the sink. The shower doors were not big enough for a man of my size plus the floor in the shower needs repainting. The plus side was that that the staff were excellent.

Arrived to Eastbourne on Friday 5th April till Monday 8th of April, it was me and my Nan on this trip, everything about this hotel was nice.. the hotel, our room, the food was good the staff that was bringing the food was patient and quick with peoples orders, everyone was kind and informative. My Nan actually had an issue which needed resolving and one of the staff members behind the reception came up to our room and was ever so nice to my Nan that he actually went to the shop himself and got what she had needed, and for that she was extremely grateful, it was a very kind thing to do of him, as we’re all the rest of the staff there as well. Really enjoyed our time at this hotel, we enjoy coming on these little trips together, and your hotel and Eastbourne itself really made the trip! Maybe we will return again in the future.

Our second visit to this hotel ( on a Shearings 4 day break) , this time in the company of two friends.
Our previous visit in March 2018 , and subsequent review were very positive however sad to say this time little things are starting to slide.
Our room on the first floor was clean and of typical Shearings standard but there were several deficiencies:- the large central heating radiator was not working and in its place an electric radiator was provided but this did not come close to the heat out put of the original.
Water staining on walls from damp ingress and several areas of woodwork need decorating. Virtually impossible to open a window due to missing sash cords
We know from past experience in many of Shearings hotels that shower gels etc are not provided but we were surprised to find not even the small bar of soap was now provided!
Again bathroom ceiling showing water staining . The folding shower screen had no seal on the folding section and consequently tended to drip water from the shower onto the floor.
The staff generally are very pleasant and helpful and particularly the young ladies who serve in the bar did an excellent job.
Moving to the food- the buffet breakfast was good . Quality bacon , sausage etc and plenty of it. Evening meal dishes at times sadly were lacking in terms of quality. The soup was obviously packet based and thinned within an inch of its life! Most of the veg whilst perfectly edible were very small portion size and the leeks served on the Sunday were indescribably awful! In fact ball four of us left them after one taste.
We all shared the same thoughts that in attempts to save a few pence here and there it is having an overall negative effect on the entire stay . Sad as our past experiences of this and other Shearing breaks have been very positive and whilst it is fair to say that they still give fair value there is a limit to how far things can slide before we say it's no longer worth it.

My brother and our wife’s had a lovely stay at the Burlington, entertainment on Friday & Saturday was very good (liked the four free drinks)and all the meals were a good choice. The rooms were lovely and warm, as the weather outside was cold, breakfast was buffet style which is what we liked. Coach driver was good, just needed to brush up on local knowledge as she new nothing about Battle, Hastings or Bexhill-on-sea, would stay at this Hotel again.

read many a review and was expecting better but many of the people I spoke to had been here before so knew what to expect
if your disabled and you are travelling by your own transport beware of the steep steps at the back of the hotel or get dropped of at the front and get into the hotel via the dining room.the hotel is in need of some major work very tired in places rotting timber evidence of leaking water pipes which I found out in the restaurant whilst having dinner water coming through the ceiling on top of me.food is ok and that's it nothing really more to say about the food.entertainment again nothing to rave about a singer on a Friday again nothing special.saturday entertainment with mark was ok but once is enough.no entertainment on a sunday.the hotel is in a good location but that's it.as I've said many of the hotel clients have been here before and its what they like but not for me.would I go back here very unlikely

Went for a long weekend, got room overlooking sea, room adequate but needs updating, television so small I struggled to watch.food excellent for money, wish menus were printed larger as writing minuscule ,waiting staff very efficient, entertainment good, hotel was far far too hot,in bar area today radiators were full on and there were fans on to cool people down. For what we paid excellent value for money but could be 4*** if they looked at a few small points.

Enjoyed a 4 night stay travelling with Shearings. Drivers were excellent. Hotel is tired. Lift is too small for the number of people staying in the building. Breakfast okay, but limiting. Evening meal menu is basic but edible. For what I paid for the break I will not complain, but I have been in better hotels on a short break.

Just returned from a 5 day break with Shearings. First of all thanks to our driver Peter who was funny and informative. This is a lovely old Victorian building which is extremely tired and lots of paint required all over. After entering one lift with its carpeted walls and the other the size of a cupboard, you know this wasn't going to be good. We had paid extra for a sea view which was ok. The bedding and towels were spotlessly clean and white. However the carpet was disgusting, so badly stained. The bathroom was very old complete with a peach coloured wash basin. The room was so very hot all day and night. You couldn't open the windows much due to the pigeons sitting on the windowsill. Now to the dining room, it was dark and depressing and very grubby, the ceiling was filthy. There was a swarm of flies hovering over our table. The tables were set out in long rows in a works canteen fashion. The soups and desserts were quite good but the main courses were very boring and lukewarm. Breakfast was ok except for flies surrounding the communal jam pots (no satchets or little pots here). Mark in the entertainment lounge was good and amusing. All in all this hotel is not one of Shearings better hotels and we would never return.

This was return visit to the Burlington with shearings on a mid week plus break. Not a lot has changed in the last two years,Mark is still doing a good job hosting the entertainment, his own show bingo and quizzes plus introducing visiting artists.Evening meal is arranged over two sittings, you book which one you want at reception in the morning, we were on 7.15 which seemed to be the less busy time, food was good the usual shearings 3 choice 3 course meal, service was exceptionally fast, staff in all departments were friendly and helpful
The hotel which is beautifully situated near the pier and a short walk to the town centre.is an old building and as such does need some attention , my only minor complaint was the rattling window frames during high wind.
Our driver was Peter and unlike the previous three tours we have had with Shearings he was familiar with the area and had a huge amount of local knowledge which he imparted on our three excursions,He even had information on bus numbers and times for our free day .
Overall i still have a good opinion of the Burlington . It represents very good value for money and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Like most of the other visitors to the hotel we were on a Shearings break. so most of the customers are of a 'certain age.'. I had paid extra for a sea view room on the first floor and this was well worth it. The room was large and well appointed, with plenty of wardrobe space. The room had quite clearly been re decorated in the recent past. Everything was spotless. If I had a complain it was that the bathroom was extremely small, but it was very clean and everything worked which is really all you want in a bathroom. We were on second sitting for dinner, which gives you a 30 minute span to appear, NOT to eat your meal! As all true Brits, there was a queue at 7.15 pm when the sitting started? However they did get the message for the following night. Food was very good, especially the buffet breakfast. There was a choice on the evening menu and this was all good. The servers were however, just a little too eager to clear your table, so you learnt not to put your cutlery down! There was no road noise, but this might change during the Summer. The entertainment was average but was very well received. The 'four free drinks' promotion on a Wednesday was appreciated. Everything especially our driver James was very good.

Just got back from Eastbourne, The Burlington Hotel. I must say the driver Dianne was informative but sounded a little abrupt at times, as usual the hotel was clean and tidy, the staff very friendly, We would like to thank everyone on reception for sorting out a lower floor for my sister. The food was good and hot at all times and tasty, the entertainment was good, not the first time at this hotel and wont be the last. Thank you to all who keep this hotel going.

Just had a fantastic few days at the Burlington Hotel with Shearings. We have been on several breaks with Shearings but this was by far the best. Personally I think that the evening entertainment makes your holiday and Mark Snow certainly made sure we had the best time ever. He is a larger than life all round entertainer and the hotel would be nothing without him. He works really hard to make sure everyone has a great time, tonight we had a guest singer called Andrew Newey who was also excellent. The hotel was good too and so was our superior room, with a sea view. Our driver Kevin was fab too, very knowledgeable on the area and funny with it. Well done Shearings!

The hotel looks nice and has recently been refurbished yet the bedrooms only had 2 twin power points which were aeround the table at the bottom of the bed = no power points around the head of the bed which would have been useful.
The breakfast was chaotic with self service for 100 people, dinner wasn a bit better with waiter service but only 2 choices to pick from was not very good - ended up eating out half of the time there.
If you are considering here I would rewcommend looking elsewhere.

Did a 4 day weekend in February with Shearings ,Party of 8 which one had a birthday,we all had first floor sea view rooms very spacious clean and great view.Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was buffet and very good evening meals had a decent variable menu Hotel nice and warm perhaps too warm in the concert room. The downside was the entertainment on the Friday when we got there there was a impressionist the less said the better and a bingo caller who tried hard and finish up been the entertainment for the main Saturday night. There was no entertainment on the Sunday. To top all this 3 coaches in and by 1/2 way through Saturday night ran out of beer only larger left and Sunday only the dearest larger left and that ran out !!!.The weather was beautiful and all in all we had a great weekend but the entertainment and bar management were a lot to be desired otherwise would have given five star.

This was a group booking via Shearings from Friday to Monday. This is our third visit as a group to the Burlington. We also visit independently at other times. The hotel is very hot especially in the entertainment area. Some of the rooms were very hot others were cold. Ours was just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment on Saturday evening. Mark was amazing as always. However we were very disappointed to discover that Bay hotels do not now provide entertainment on the Sunday evenings. We only discovered this on arrival and were not forewarned by Shearings. Also the hotel ran out of beer on the Sunday evening. Apparently they had not expected us to drink so much! The hotel did offer bottles of beer at a cheaper price. They suggested if we were to go again to let them know before our arrival and they will order more in. Some of our group have decided they would not go back there which is a shame but I think the majority of us enjoyed it and would return. But please Bay put entertainment back in Sunday’s
