read many a review and was expecting better but many of the people I spoke to had been here before so knew what to expect
if your disabled and you are travelling by your own transport beware of the steep steps at the back of the hotel or get dropped of at the front and get into the hotel via the dining room.the hotel is in need of some major work very tired in places rotting timber evidence of leaking water pipes which I found out in the restaurant whilst having dinner water coming through the ceiling on top of me.food is ok and that's it nothing really more to say about the food.entertainment again nothing to rave about a singer on a Friday again nothing special.saturday entertainment with mark was ok but once is enough.no entertainment on a sunday.the hotel is in a good location but that's it.as I've said many of the hotel clients have been here before and its what they like but not for me.would I go back here very unlikely

Went for a long weekend, got room overlooking sea, room adequate but needs updating, television so small I struggled to watch.food excellent for money, wish menus were printed larger as writing minuscule ,waiting staff very efficient, entertainment good, hotel was far far too hot,in bar area today radiators were full on and there were fans on to cool people down. For what we paid excellent value for money but could be 4*** if they looked at a few small points.

Enjoyed a 4 night stay travelling with Shearings. Drivers were excellent. Hotel is tired. Lift is too small for the number of people staying in the building. Breakfast okay, but limiting. Evening meal menu is basic but edible. For what I paid for the break I will not complain, but I have been in better hotels on a short break.

Just returned from a 5 day break with Shearings. First of all thanks to our driver Peter who was funny and informative. This is a lovely old Victorian building which is extremely tired and lots of paint required all over. After entering one lift with its carpeted walls and the other the size of a cupboard, you know this wasn't going to be good. We had paid extra for a sea view which was ok. The bedding and towels were spotlessly clean and white. However the carpet was disgusting, so badly stained. The bathroom was very old complete with a peach coloured wash basin. The room was so very hot all day and night. You couldn't open the windows much due to the pigeons sitting on the windowsill. Now to the dining room, it was dark and depressing and very grubby, the ceiling was filthy. There was a swarm of flies hovering over our table. The tables were set out in long rows in a works canteen fashion. The soups and desserts were quite good but the main courses were very boring and lukewarm. Breakfast was ok except for flies surrounding the communal jam pots (no satchets or little pots here). Mark in the entertainment lounge was good and amusing. All in all this hotel is not one of Shearings better hotels and we would never return.

This was return visit to the Burlington with shearings on a mid week plus break. Not a lot has changed in the last two years,Mark is still doing a good job hosting the entertainment, his own show bingo and quizzes plus introducing visiting artists.Evening meal is arranged over two sittings, you book which one you want at reception in the morning, we were on 7.15 which seemed to be the less busy time, food was good the usual shearings 3 choice 3 course meal, service was exceptionally fast, staff in all departments were friendly and helpful
The hotel which is beautifully situated near the pier and a short walk to the town centre.is an old building and as such does need some attention , my only minor complaint was the rattling window frames during high wind.
Our driver was Peter and unlike the previous three tours we have had with Shearings he was familiar with the area and had a huge amount of local knowledge which he imparted on our three excursions,He even had information on bus numbers and times for our free day .
Overall i still have a good opinion of the Burlington . It represents very good value for money and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Like most of the other visitors to the hotel we were on a Shearings break. so most of the customers are of a 'certain age.'. I had paid extra for a sea view room on the first floor and this was well worth it. The room was large and well appointed, with plenty of wardrobe space. The room had quite clearly been re decorated in the recent past. Everything was spotless. If I had a complain it was that the bathroom was extremely small, but it was very clean and everything worked which is really all you want in a bathroom. We were on second sitting for dinner, which gives you a 30 minute span to appear, NOT to eat your meal! As all true Brits, there was a queue at 7.15 pm when the sitting started? However they did get the message for the following night. Food was very good, especially the buffet breakfast. There was a choice on the evening menu and this was all good. The servers were however, just a little too eager to clear your table, so you learnt not to put your cutlery down! There was no road noise, but this might change during the Summer. The entertainment was average but was very well received. The 'four free drinks' promotion on a Wednesday was appreciated. Everything especially our driver James was very good.

Just got back from Eastbourne, The Burlington Hotel. I must say the driver Dianne was informative but sounded a little abrupt at times, as usual the hotel was clean and tidy, the staff very friendly, We would like to thank everyone on reception for sorting out a lower floor for my sister. The food was good and hot at all times and tasty, the entertainment was good, not the first time at this hotel and wont be the last. Thank you to all who keep this hotel going.

Just had a fantastic few days at the Burlington Hotel with Shearings. We have been on several breaks with Shearings but this was by far the best. Personally I think that the evening entertainment makes your holiday and Mark Snow certainly made sure we had the best time ever. He is a larger than life all round entertainer and the hotel would be nothing without him. He works really hard to make sure everyone has a great time, tonight we had a guest singer called Andrew Newey who was also excellent. The hotel was good too and so was our superior room, with a sea view. Our driver Kevin was fab too, very knowledgeable on the area and funny with it. Well done Shearings!

The hotel looks nice and has recently been refurbished yet the bedrooms only had 2 twin power points which were aeround the table at the bottom of the bed = no power points around the head of the bed which would have been useful.
The breakfast was chaotic with self service for 100 people, dinner wasn a bit better with waiter service but only 2 choices to pick from was not very good - ended up eating out half of the time there.
If you are considering here I would rewcommend looking elsewhere.

Did a 4 day weekend in February with Shearings ,Party of 8 which one had a birthday,we all had first floor sea view rooms very spacious clean and great view.Staff very friendly and helpful, breakfast was buffet and very good evening meals had a decent variable menu Hotel nice and warm perhaps too warm in the concert room. The downside was the entertainment on the Friday when we got there there was a impressionist the less said the better and a bingo caller who tried hard and finish up been the entertainment for the main Saturday night. There was no entertainment on the Sunday. To top all this 3 coaches in and by 1/2 way through Saturday night ran out of beer only larger left and Sunday only the dearest larger left and that ran out !!!.The weather was beautiful and all in all we had a great weekend but the entertainment and bar management were a lot to be desired otherwise would have given five star.

This was a group booking via Shearings from Friday to Monday. This is our third visit as a group to the Burlington. We also visit independently at other times. The hotel is very hot especially in the entertainment area. Some of the rooms were very hot others were cold. Ours was just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment on Saturday evening. Mark was amazing as always. However we were very disappointed to discover that Bay hotels do not now provide entertainment on the Sunday evenings. We only discovered this on arrival and were not forewarned by Shearings. Also the hotel ran out of beer on the Sunday evening. Apparently they had not expected us to drink so much! The hotel did offer bottles of beer at a cheaper price. They suggested if we were to go again to let them know before our arrival and they will order more in. Some of our group have decided they would not go back there which is a shame but I think the majority of us enjoyed it and would return. But please Bay put entertainment back in Sunday’s

Recently returned from a 5 day break at the Burlington. No complaints about the hotel. Rooms comfortable and warm and excellently situated on the sea front near the Pier. Only a short walk to the town centre and transport. Staff were great and the food really nice, and hot !!. The only complaint was the Driver. He was arrogant, rude, unhelpful and seemed to have less local knowledge than we did. I'm not naming names but I'm sure that the other passengers will know who I'm talking about by my description. Shame. Spoiled an otherwise perfect break !!

Visited this hotel with Shearings 5 day deal many times. Always been highly satisfied. The one thing I cannot understand is the high drinks price at the bar. A captive audience are Sat there watching entertainment with no drinks in front of them. On the free drinks night there are long queues at the bar. This proves they would all have drinks if the prices were right. Come on Shearings smaller profits bigger turnover is the key to good business.

Hotel is handily placed for going to the town.,a walk along the pier or the seafront. Anyone who is fit can walk past Lifeboat shop and martello tower and get to Beachy Head.. In the opposite direction the Redoubt is close. Buses are close and Brighton is just over 1 hr away, Sovereign harbour is also close by bus.

Arrived here Friday teatime on a national holidays trip, never been to Eastbourne before. Very quick check in, room on third floor, the smallest of the lifts was very claustrophobic. Room clean and modern but very cold, bed very comfortable, but had to sleep with my dressing gown on two nights due to the room being cold 😱😱 Breakfast was good, loved the porridge, the fried breakfast was a little greasy for my liking, had to queue for the toaster. Evening meal wasn’t as good in my opinion due to the choices you were given. The staff were lovely except for the women in charge of the dining room (dark hair in a pony tail) she was so ignorant and needs lessons in customer service. We chose to either go out on a night or one of the nights took our drinks to our room as wasn’t right keen on the in house entertainment. The hotel is in a prime position on the promenade close to the pier which was a bonus. Would visit Eastbourne again sometime in the future, would even consider staying at this hotel again

The Burlington is a typical grand seaside hotel with lots of Victorian features and an on going refurbishment.
Our standard twin room on the third floor had been partly refurbished with new double glazed windows and a new bathroom, the room was large but was cold due to the radiator being under the bay window which did not allow the heat into the room, although on hindsight I now wish I had asked for a portable heater to be put in our room, this did not seem to be a problem for most of the people we spoke too who said their rooms were too hot so I suppose it’s the luck of the draw, but the beds were comfortable and the housekeeping was good.
As with other Shearings hotels we have been too the food was very good always a good choice and hot, and the 6-15 & 7-15 sittings that they operate worked very well with service being very good and served by very efficient staff.
Entertainment was very good with the usual bingo and quiz made hilarious by Mark who pulled in a large crowd every night, I’m still laughing now at his bingo calling.
It was our first time to Eastbourne but if we return we would certainly stay at the Burlington again although if it was in winter would be sure to ask for a warm room.

Good sized warm room with the usual furnishings, though the wardrobe was tiny and there are no wall hooks on which to hang outdoor clothing. Well located ( easy walking distance to shops ) with view of the sea and pier but be aware there is no double glazing so there is some road noise.
We found the restaurant to be a cheerless place with the tables in long institutionalised lines. The starters and dessert choices were good but the mains very samey with breadcrumb coated meat and fish.
Happy with the other public rooms and staff friendly and helpful.

The hotel I visit quite often so very friendly and amazing value for money.
Mark the host is so well known amongst the visitors who all seem to return quite as I do.
Ivina a lady who is a member of staff was so helpful on my last visit . Four days of fun is how I think of it and will be returning soon .

Another fine stay thanks to all the very pleasant and helpful staff. Our excellent refurbished 'Standard' room has various extra facilities now, such as usb points by the bedside units. Superb shower room, hardly looked as if it had been used. Picked up the free fast wifi up on the 2nd floor too now, not just downstairs. Every time we go, some further improvements have taken place. New timings for dining sittings worked extremely smoothly. All meals were enjoyed. Entertainment is yes, entertaining, especially from Mark the Spark! Thanks due to one and all.

Never been to Eastbourne before. Arrived at this seafront hotel opposite the Pier and wow what a grand old building. Only a short stroll from the Pier and promenade and a few minutes walk into town. Used by lots of coach companies so a lot of middle to old age clientele.
The rooms have been refurbished and good beds and bathrooms have made the trip very comfortable. The food was of a good quality and always felt full . Bar staff were great and always friendly which is the norm amongst all the hotel's staff. Entertainment was great with bingo, quiz and dancing on most nights . Mark the compere is a legend....so much fun he is always smiling and getting everyone to join in. Visiting cabaret too is well worth watching. Will definitely be back in the future.

Good hotel.... Staff really friendly and attentive.... Rooms dated and a tad cold.... Food lovely.... One thing to look at though.... When we booked we thought what a great deal(and it is) ..... If your happy with being with older generation then you'll enjoy it.... We was the youngest there and I'm mid 40s..... Unknown to us this was a shearings hotel..... Great location.... Good views... Good shopping.....so no complaints.... As always.... Holidays are what you make them. X

Nice hotel very close to sea shore. Also close to the pier. Friendly staff. Hotel corridors could do with refreshing and repaint. But the rooms are spacious and very comfortable.
