Came here via Shearings and the place is good for 3 stars food is good and the staff are all very good. The hotel itself is a bit dated even though many rooms have been refurbished. We were on the 4th floor and the water pressure is pretty non existent with poor water hardly wetting you in the shower. But all in all a very nice weeks stay.

I like the old hotels we stay at when we travel with Shearings the rooms are lovely, lounge bars and dining rooms are nice but the corridors could do with a bit of an upgrade. I know we only have to walk through the corridors to get to the cosy rooms but its 1st impressions. The staff at the hotels so far have all been lovely. Our waiter at the Burlington was lovely, thanks to him our mealtimes were nice and relaxed.

Good friendly service if a little slow at dinner times. Clean comfortable rooms but some areas could do with a lick of paint. Entertainment impossible to see from some areas but this could be improved with a large TV and a camera on the act

Stayed here for 3 nites mid Jan 2019 and found it much better than some reviews we had read. Good location, clean, tidy and friendly staff. Rooms being updated slowly so when all finished will all be lovely.
Restaurant clean and tidy and staff helpful and friendly. Entertainment was ok. Bingo most nights.
Not sure how but did experience being glutened on Sunday evening (I am coeliac). After dinner we sat in lounge and my stomach slowly started to feel uncomfortable and started to bloat. I looked 6 months pregnant! I said to my brother and his wife "oh no not again this happened at the Melrose".
I was fine on the other two evenings so whether they cross contaminated or gave me something with gluten in I don't know.
I will from now on make sure I ask each evening that they are positive it's not been contaminated or contains gluten.
But it will not deter us from going back.
We had an issue with our room on arrival but got moved quickly to another as the first room smelt of cigarette smoke. Our new room was 136 but did experience on day of departure a person from room 237 got off on first floor and opened our room door with his key. He was just as shocked as I was. Told reception so hopefully that will get sorted. Just glad I was not undressed ☺

If you're allergic to strawberry, and don't like marmalade, then bring your own jam for breakfast because apart from honey, those are the only options for your toast. Food ok, better than most of these hotels.
Right by the pier, great views to waterfront.
And, added bonus, free WiFi in the rooms, as well as the hotel!

Not bad, some things need tweaking. The decor generally needs a good decorator, someone with imagination and style . The fabric of the building in places should be overhauled . The food is ok the entertainment not bad the staff help full and pleasant .

Ground floor areas generally very nice but our room was very shabby. Tired decor, worn patches on the chairs, cracked washbasin in the bathroom and black marks around the bath.

We had a room on the front of the hotel overlooking the sea which was spacious and comfortable. The food was good and the staff were very friendly

Had a nice stay, staff friendly and helpful. Upgraded our room to have a sea view. Breakfast was good and dinner fine. Only deducted one star as in the entrance bar food is advertised as being available until 5pm but when i tried to order sandwiches from the bar menu at 2pm for lunch was told the kitchen was closed. Would stay again though.
Updated May 2019. Second stay and have removed a star from last time. Needed pillow for my bed when arrived....took 5hrs and numerous requests to get one. Food has gone downhill since last visit. Breakfast still ok but starters and mains need improvement only puds been good.

We had a nice sea view room, recently upgraded I should think... Dining room definitely needs TLC.... Splashes of food up the walls... Tables stained... Dirty menus.. Salt and pepper pots sticky... Buffet breakfast was adequate... Plenty of tea and coffee available. Bar area was okay... Drinks reasonably priced. We didn't eat dinner... Went out... It was cheap... But wouldn't stay there again..

The hotel is okay. Very out dated. The carpet is very old. Wallpaper is peeling off. The basics are there in the room, bed, shower and a small tv. Not much selection of food on the dinner menu. There is also no separated tables in the dining area, meaning you are constantly sitting next to strangers. I'm okay with that but some people are not. I probably wouldn't chose this hotel again if I'm being honest.

Didn’t stay in the hotel but had drinks in the coffee shop and the bar which were both fantastic. Coffee shop is A bit rustic but decent coffee, snacks (cake, biscuits, toastier etc). Bar is more modern and fairly well stocked. Great views overlooking the sea from both which are separated by the wide entrance and long corridor to provide a distinct separation. Great view over Eastbourne pier. A bit warm in the conservatory area but great for wind protection.

Was there for a long week end break. the entrance and bar lounge areas were good, dining room could do with upgrading very old table and chairs. Food was good as were the staff - happy smiling attentive. unfortunately the room i was in (a single room 445) definitely needs to be refurbished, carpet dirty and thread bare right down to the hessian backing and bathroom needs a complete overhaul - new suite, taps, etc.,. Enjoyed Eastbourne.

I have been to this hotel twice before and because I had so much fun, decided to bring
my sister-in-law and brother-in-law along for a weekend, praising it highly. The food was excellent as were the staff but was really disappointed with all of the entertainment. If it wasn't for Mark (who worked his socks off) it went flat. Had I known the entertainment was very limited I would have tried another hotel. It needs updating badly especially the bathrooms, the windows and frames. I could go on and on. Wake up Bay and sort this out.
