Called by accident as only in Eastbourne for 2 days and did not want to eat in hotel. Booked for later in the day and was glad as it became very busy. Only a small area for serving meals but of very good quality and good value. The starter of ribs were excellent and the portions were large especially the pork belly which included all vegetables and left us very full

I was staying locally in Eastbourne for a couple of days and came across this lovely pub with food.
I ordered the lamb shank and when it arrived it was the most beautifully cooked lamb shank I have ever tasted all served with fresh vegetables and roast potatoes. I would highly recommend this place 5/5 for me. 😀👍

Had dinner on Saturday steak and ale pie with veg my friend had lamb shank both were delicious. Then on Monday we went back and the food was again first class we both had pork belly and veg which were carrots, cabbage, broccoli, and leeks in a sauce and nearly forget mash potato. The staff are friendly and the entertainment excellent

Rather disappointed with the food received. I ordered Lasagne which was very tasty but very over cooked with some of the pasta so hard it was difficult to chew. My husband ordered Crispy belly pork which again was very over cooked and shrunk away. Not like the meals we used to get a while back. What a shame. So disappointing. Unfortunately we will not be rushing back. We have recommended this pub so many times. Will not be doing so again.

This is one of the closest decent pubs to the seafront and the pier and internally it’s a modern decor with mainly plain tiled and wooden floors, pastel coloured walls with some typical exposed brick walls in places, one of which has a large chalk board with the food menu. The main bar room has wooden table and chairs throughout but still plenty of bar stools around the square bar area. To the right is still a more public area with pool table and dart boards but still quite smart with plenty of comfortable seating and then upstairs is a function room and access to the very good outside balcony area with limited seating providing wonderful views of the sea.
The food is decent pub grub rather than gastro with the usual Beer battered fish and chips and assorted burgers coming in around £10 and we found it a decent stop for a spot of lunch. Walked past it every night in the evening when it was significantly livelier with a younger crowd and there are regular live music acts at the weekend who I presume play in the function room upstairs. The only downside is that this is a Greedy King pub and of the four real ale hand pumps three had Old Speckled Hen, Greene King IPA and Hardys & Hansons Olde Trip and the fourth was unclipped, although according to the barman the fourth one usually had a changing guest ale but I was just unlucky for my visit.
Good pub and deservedly popular, but due to the ale choice I ducked it in the evenings for the Belgium Cafe further along the seafront.

Myself and a group of friends went to the Crown & Anchor for a birthday celebration on Saturday evening. I phoned ahead and asked for two bottles of champagne to be put on ice! On arrival we found that a table had been set aside for us, which was a very nice touch. Champagne and glasses were on the table with Olie the manager waiting to open the first bottle for us. Many thanks to Olie and staff for the very kind welcome, we shall return.

We must have booked on the Chef's off day judging by the rave reviews on the food because ours was far from good.
We booked this pub based upon the good reviews of the food and also the fact that it had entertainment - which was OK but again not great! For startes I had the crispy halloumi sticks with dips, not too bad - my husband had their version of Prawn Cocktail, made with Shrimps not prawns and pretty tasteless - which is surprising seeing as they were on the seafront, you would expect fresh prawns.
For mains I had the Cod and Chips, large piece of Cod, can't really go wrong with fish and chips so not too bad, chips a bit dry like frozen chips. My husband had the Sirloin Steak, very small completely charred on the outside piece of steak with hardly any chips and extras - a very small nasty tasting dish as the burnt outside completely overruled any decent flavour the steak may have had before it was cremated. Value for money was terrible, two startes, two mains, one soft and one alcoholic drink each came to £69.00!
Their saving grace is their staff, really lovely young people who served us, polite, courteous and very good at their job, it's a shame the pub food lets them down - would be a great place if the food was better.

Called in when just arrived for a drink nice pub by the sea front. Good friendly service in nice surroundings. Saw the food come out which look great. Pity we had booked else’s where for our few days visit but would not like to let the other restaurants down. We call in for food on next visit down.

Nice pub, good food. Nice team, good service. The little terrace with the sea view is nice to have a good cigar, though the traffic a bit bothering.
Still nice place to make a short visit to chill.

My wife and I visited this pub because we really wanted a good old pub Sunday lunch. I can tell you we were not to be disappointed.
The pub itself has been around for a fairly long time but was refurbished a few years ago. Has great old world styling, lots of wood and a great warm feeling.
The menu covers all the old pub Favourites you might expect, as well as a few twists of their own. We elected for the roast dinner. After all this is what we came for.
I had the roast beef with all that came with it. My wife had the braised lamb shank.
The beef was lovely, a little more done than I would prefer. But this did not deter in any way from the flavour or quality. There was a very suitable serving of vegetables. All were served hot and fresh. As near as I could tell. They were all prepared in house. It was a really nice, authentic pub roast. The lamb was exceptionally well cooked, and tender through, and through.
As expected, the lamb was a very large portion of meat, and my wife struggled with it. I was happy to assist.
Both meals were well prepared and presented, condiments of choice available on the asking. We had a very nice bottle of red wine with the meal.
We followed this up with the dessert offer of more wine with a cheese board. Very traditional indeed and was a wonderful way to let the Sunday afternoon slide by.
The pub itself was very clean and fresh. Food was of good quality and presentation. The staff were very pleasant as well as helpful. We were not rushed by them in any way. I can’t’ wait to get the weekend off and visit again. Next time though I will book in advance. We were lucky someone had not showed up for their regular table.

Good point:
- Super friendly staff, very welcoming to all. - Very helpful & child friendly.
- Great value for money for food and drinks; considering the location. - Would recommend to anybody.
- Had a small beer garden outside with a pool table and dart board inside. - Free WiFi.
Bad point/area for improvement:
- Baby changing in the ladies toilet and inside one of the cubicles, so very narrow.

A must to visit while in Eastbourne a really busy place but so friendly inviting place to be with excellent service.

our son held his evening wedding party here in the upstairs private room, large room with its own bar. The staff were Brilliant very helpful, the pub did the buffet which was outstanding. They allowed people in during the day to drop off the cake and fix up the fairy lights. Thank you for making our son & Daughter in laws wedding complete
