As a local I can enjoy the wide variety of plays that pass through Eastbourne as part of national or regional tours. We benefit from new shows prior to the West End and more traditional ones such as the excellent touring Agatha Christie company. The local Red Scarlet company also put on a season of murder mysteries from sinister through to comic. If you are only in town for a short while check out the current programme.

What a gem the Devonshire Park Theatre is! At a time when theatres are closing down, and performances are taking place in halls and assembly rooms, how lovely it is to visit this one. Proper boxes, extravagant swags and tails, lots of red velvet...just like a theatre SHOULD be!
More people should be aware of the quality of the performances here . All the great things about The West End without the West End Prices! I have seen comedy, tragedy , romance, thrills and musicals here, and the standards have been top class, with many well known faces gracing the boards.
I hope that locals and visitors will support this ...and the other Eastbourne theatres...and keep the doors open. there are too many 'dark' theatres, and we can't afford to lose any more.

This lovely old Theatre is one not to miss. The annual programme is always a mixture to suit all. Being a member of the Friends of Devonshire Park Theatre find it wonderful as one gets the chance to meet the cast after the, usually, Tuesday evening show. How exciting is that!

The Devonshire Park Theatre is a lovely Victorian theatre. The play lacked pace and tension and the set was ugly. Brian Capron gave a deft performance in an undemanding role but the rest of the cast gave pretty heavy-handed performances. Dull.

Been here before and this is a really delightful theatre built in the old style. The play we saw - Double Death - was well performed and kept us guessing to the end. The two stars, Brian Capron and Andrew Paul, both better known for TV soap performances, were excellent.

We went to see 'The Widow'. I think it was billed as a mystery. It is a mystery to me how it got to be on stage.

A lovely small Victorian playhouse. The auditorium is fine, but the rest is in desperate need of money and refurbishment. Reminds me of going back to the fifties, which is probably when it was last done up.Nevertheless has bags of character, and with the right show an enjoyable evening will be assured.

My husband and I enjoyed visiting The Devonshire but were disappointed with the play Double Death. We were expecting a gripping thriller but felt the storyline was weak and failed to capture our interest.

Production was excellent. Booked seats over the phone prior to our visit. Didn't realise there was a concession for seniors which could be made known when booking which would have saved us some money.

I have seen various shows he from musicals to murder mystery plays....amateur and professional and thoroughly enjoyed them all....it is a lovely old theatre with lots of charm and is always reasonably priced. The staff are volunteers and always helpful and happy to explain anything and they also do preview evenings sometimes where you can meet the stars

A bit shabby, but nice old quaint feel to the place.
Rather old fashioned - in a pleasing way.
No more to add.

Go see this play! It is on from Monday to Saturday! Saw it in Brighton and it's brilliant!
It's the gritty true story of the vet James Herriot made famous by the TV series of this name. Despite the pig on the poster the only actual animal is a Westie! The other animals are there ok because of very clever staging and brilliant acting by Oliver Mellor, Mark curry, Susan penhaligan and Lee Latchford Evans. I don't want to say more- just go and have a wonderful evening or matinee out at the theatre.

went here to see "Birdsong" which was fantastic the theatre is a throw back to the old days and i like that still being to be able to show plays etc in the modern world. Our seats were comfy and plenty of legroom the stage is quite small but this added to the the ambience and atmosphere. The toilets were clean even had the old style pull chain flush by thomas crapper in the cubicles!Am hoping to return in september to see another play

A short break in Eastbourne and noticed the West End Smash hit comedy 'The play that goes wrong' was on'. I went as the essential carer, no charge...entrance at side so no stairs. Very helpful & attentive staff. Show will attended and superb show.

If you live in Eastbourne or are just passing through, you must go and see something here. Sadly beautiful places like this are in decline & if they are not used they will all disappear. This theatre is really a lovely thing to look at, a little sad outside, needs a coat of paint, but the inside is just beautiful. Seating around 900, it was a little disappointing to see it part full for what was really quite an excellent production last Saturday. Very traditional in theatre terms, the staff were all very pleasant which always helps on a night out. The acoustics are amazing & we could hear every word. Even if you only go once in a while, there is bound to be something on to suit at some time or other, an extremely well balanced and varied programme of events there will be something for every taste.

On a weekend trip to Eastbourne we popped in to see what was playing on the Saturday evening and it turned out it was Shady Business. We booked 2 tickets and had a lovely evening. We really enjoyed the play. The cast were very good the play full of laughs and the theatre is beautiful. What we could not understand was why the theatre was only a quarter full. Our town has a very modern theatre but puts on many of the same types of shows as this theatre and we go often and it is rare to see a spare seat. The tickets were not expensive especially compared to the West End where we had attended a show the week before. I realise that not everyone wants to see the same types of play but if you are visiting Eastbourne see if there is something you want to see because it will be well worth the visit.

Went to see this play the evening of the 5th July. The Devonshire Park Theatre has a capacity of 936 apparently and there were about 900 empty seats. Well I have to say what a shame. A gripping play and excellent performances by the cast. I saw them in the pub nearby afterwards and did say that it takes an awful lot of guts to come out and play to such a small house. Bravo to them and Eastbourne get your hands in your pockets and come out to see these players, you are missing a treat. Thank you to the cast and crew, a very enjoyable night out. The lady who was working in the bar is a good sport and we were well looked after, thank you. Devonshire Park Theatre, it needs some love and attention, it is tired but use it or lose it!

My daughter and I visited on the first night of the play A devil at Midnight - a play with a twist that we enjoyed. The theatre itself is very nice although only about a quarter full which deviates from the ambience. The staff are friendly and have to multi task several duties from box office - selling sweets and ice-creams - teas and coffees, showing us to our seats etc. A lovely venue but one which I have never seen full - but then again I only visit Eastbourne once a year.
