We usually have lunch in the Crystal restaurant on a Saturday, however in these unusual and difficult times for all, when enjoying a meal in the restaurant is impossible, we were pleased to see that the hotel was providing take out meals for a very good price.

So on Friday we ordered a Chilli Con Carne [for Saturday] from the quite comprehensive menu [see the website] this arrived and only required a brief time in the microwave, it was superb.

We will now order a regular Saturday lunch, this will make a welcome change from our own cooking.

Well done the Hydro

This was our fourth stay at the Hydro, and our best yet. The hotel was very quiet because of the coronavirus threat, but the staff were superb and the atmosphere as friendly and welcoming as ever.
I don't even need to add "for a 120+ year old hotel" to by description when I say that the ambiance is excellent; as are the facilities.

It is many years since I have stayed in a traditional seaside hotel. I stayed at the Hydro while on a business trip electing to go for an alternative to my usual chain hotel and found it to be a wholly pleasant experience.

The Hydro is a modern twist on the resort hotels of my youth. Homely atmosphere, pleasant, professional staff, comfortable sleeping facilities and excellent dining options.

Highly recommended.

We have enjoyed yet, another two night stay at the Hydro. Bright, clean side view room with all the amenities that you could wish for, including small fridge, hospitality tray, safe and plenty of hanging and drawer space. Part or our package was a cream tea, which we enjoyed in the conservatory overlooking the gardens to the sea. We also had dinner in the Crystal Room on our second night. Worth the wait to have the food cooked from fresh, delicious.
This will not be our last visit to the Hydro.

My husband I stayed at the Hydro for four days in February 2020. Superb service from friendly staff. Very clean, warm and comfortable. The food was excellent. Our room was a bit chilly so we turned the radiator up and it warmed up. Good value for money. I would certainly stay there again.

Easy parking in the street outside or you could drive around the back for a car park.
The hotel is very old still has an original lift. On the bedroom flours have toilets ( from the days before on suite )
Room was great with tea coffee etc. Bed was comfy and good quality. Slept well no noise at all.
The dining room for breakfast is beautiful it felt very glamorous great standard took you back in time to old glamour.
The conservatory where we have dinner was lovely bright and airy.
Would recommend and return. Thank you

Hydro is an impressive building in a quiet corner of Eastbourne. Service is excellent and I would class the food as good. It is ideal for larger parties as it is spacious and well serviced in staff numbers. Diners tend to be older. The conservatory is particularly nice in the summer. Not tried afternoon tea, but friends have recommended it.

Our journey to Eastbourne was dreadful, the weather was attroctious, as we entered the lobby of The Hydro we both sighed with relief.
The most beautiful building, filled with amazing architecture, and a warm welcoming lobby with wonderful staff equally as warm and welcoming.
We were fortunate to spend three days at The Hydro, no sightseeing the weather remained awful, instead we filled our days in total comfort enjoying casual meals in The Conservatory restaurant overlooking the waterfront, quiet cups of coffee in the most comfortable seating areas off of the lobby, and dinners in The Crystal Dining Room.
The food in both restaurants was wonderful, our room was extremely comfortable and immaculate, and we thoroughly enjoyed our seaview.
All of the Staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable and they succeeded.
The location is stunning, the food is great, the Staff warm and attentive but not intrusive, the hotel is truly a wonderful place to stay.
One more lovely aspect of our stay was the warmth and friendliness of the other guests, we had so many lovely conversations with other guests, everyone just seemed to be so relaxed and friendly and happy to spend a few moments in conversation. A place just filled with warmth.
Looking forward to visiting again.

Visit this hotel regularly. Never fails to impress. The staff are friendly and attentive. The food is good. The rooms are always clean and welcoming. This last visit was sadly cut short due to my husband being called into to work. However the staff ensured we had breakfast (including bacon sandwiches despite being outside hours) as we had to leave at 7.30am. Love spending time here and will return soon

Again, we have just spent a very relaxing few days at the Hydro hotel, Eastbourne. The staff are all excellent, very friendly and attentive. We take our two well behaved dogs with us and they certainly get lots of attention. We find the hotel very comfortable and pay a little extra for a seaview room. The food is always good with the luxury of room service if needed. We love the location which is a few minutes from the seafront and lovely walks. This was our fifth visit (I think) and we will return.

Stayed here 2 nights in January. Could not fault anything with location (quiet) lovely room, excellent staff and lovely food in restaurant. Hotel seems to be well maintained and very clean. Only slight complaint was the bitter in the bar. Only had 1 pint would not have another didn't seem to be kept well. Tea and crumpets in conservatory on arrival was a great touch after long drive. Plenty of area's to sit and relax after long day walking.
Would highly recommend this hotel.
Well done Jonathan Owen General Manager and all your staff

I spent two nights at the Hydro Hotel. It is an historic hotel with a beautiful and stylish entrance and lobby. Lots of wood trim - a style from the late 1800's - just beautiful and well-maintained for those of us who like such places. Simple elegance. The entire staff was very kind and professional. The food was very good, fresh and tasty. I had a wonderful view onto the English Channel from my spacious and comfortable room. It was quite and a very charming experience. The beach and promenade into the center of Eastbourne is just down a few stairs. I can highly recommend this hotel.
