With the entrance located off a side road I was slightly concerned as to what the view would be like. Well I was blown away, the inside of the hotel is beautiful, the conservatory is truly excellent and the service, well nothing was too much trouble. Our room was on the first floor with a stunning sea view and overlooking the croquet lawn. All in all we loved it so much we stayed for a extra day and indeed on our way home thought we should have stayed longer. R.Coverdale

Our first visit to the Hydro, we have family in Seaford so we invited them to meet us at the hydro for afternoon tea.. they told us they lunch, Sunday lunch regularly at the hydro its their favourite hotel! We could see why...The hotel is well decorated with classic public rooms, a beautiful sun room overlooking immaculate gardens and the SEA! The bedrooms are large, modern, with modern en suite bathrooms. The Hydro was exceptionally clean..well presented and whilst we didn't eat dinner there the dining room was grand. BreaKfast had everything you could desire and the staff were so friendly and attentive..Lina at Breakfast deserves commendation as does David D in the bar area..Well done hydro we will be back ....My only two very minor criticisms are NO nibbles behind the bar in the evenings..crisps nuts chocolate etc.. and there was no hotel info in the rooms as such..so I didn't realise it had a pool until the last day....and we wanted to read the Hydro history..felt this could be in room folder....but this is truly nitpicking!!! well recommend Hydro...........

A fantastic hotel .

Built in 1850 this hotel has managed to retain the glamour of that era whilst giving you up to date comforts you would expect in 2017.

From the minute we arrived we felt welcome and at home. All the staff were friendly yet professional.

Our room (216) was quite large and very comfortable. The bathroom could be described as compact but was adequate and had all the amieneties one would expect. The sea view was amazing.

Everywhere appeared well maintained and clean. The garden was nice and we spent a lovely afternoon beside the croquet lawn with some wine.

Location is slightly out of town but can stroll to the pier and bandstand in about twenty minutes. A bit longer coming back as it is up hill.

All in all a fantastic find in Eastbourne. We will definately be returning in the near future.

A big thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant.

We were impressed by the friendly, professional staff at this well situated hotel. Our room had lovely sea views however there were issues withe TV, shower head and faulty safe . When we arrived there was quite a lot of debris outside the room ((this was later attended to). The deputy manager acted efficiently with our issues and was a pleasure to meet. Despite the problems we still had a good break and would certainly return in the future.

Quiet situation. Excellent room with a sea view, luxurious towels on a heated rail, lovely curtains, soft carpet and a big bed as requested, excellent complementary tray. Lovely tea in Conservatory overlooking well screened garden with croquet lawn. Didn't view pool as out of season. Great breakfast with friendly staff. Ace experience!

Good comfortable hotel, in good location near the sea with excellent reception staff, who must be commended for their helpfulness.
Had a meal at the restaurant and whilst the food was good, we did feel a little out of place due to the average age of the rest of the customers being somewhat older.
However, good comfortable room and all the staff were excellent and friendly.

Had a 1 night break on a groupon deal with cream tea on arrival. Hotel is in a residential area so nice & quiet & a good walk from the main town, taxi into town around £5 & easier than the bus. Great location for Beachy Head which is just minutes up the road. Lovely cream tea, plenty of seating but was very busy so ended up sitting in the grand hallway area which was fine. Smallish room but spotless & had a fabulous sea view, loads of tea/ coffee & comfy bed. Polite staff, ok breakfast, overall excellent value for money & would use again.

We stayed for two nights on a special deal of £69 per night including breakfast and a cream tea on arrival. The hotel is situated in a quiet location about a 20 minute walk from the pier in Eastbourne.
The room was a good size and comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order with self service for cereals and pastries and staff were friendly and polite.
We dined in the Crystal restaurant one evening. Service was a bit slow which was blamed on there only being one chef. The main course could have done with being a bit more generous in the size of helping but otherwise was reasonable value at £23 for two courses. We were also given a voucher on arrival for a free glass of wine each with the meal.
We would happily stay again at the special rate.

Fantastic hotel should be 5 star and not 3. Lovely large room with a sea view. Friendly staff and a huge breakfast.
Not far to walk into the town of Eastbourne. Clean streets.
We did not experience any of the negative comments made by previous posts.
With special thanks to Travel Zoo who advertised this hotel with a special offer which included cream tea on arrival.

We stayed here for first time one night on a deal last weekend. Lovely location up on cliff with sea views. We were given a classic bedroom at side of hotel overlooking Town. Lighting in room was poor and it had an old fashioned feel and needed up dating.for a three star hotel. The bath was too narrow and the ensuite looked as if it had been cut out of the bedroom space thus making it only a single not true double room in space.. The lifts to bedrooms were small and slow. The food at the main course of evening meal was barely warm and the staff ill trained to cope with serving the dishes. It was not really a good value experience but the place has a quircky old fashioned feel and could do with updating in the main guest areas such as lounges

We stayed for two nights in March. The Sussex Room enjoys a a fine view over the sea which could be viewed from a comfortable settee. The room is spacious and warm. The staff are friendly, the cuisine is fine and the decor is well maintained; a little like going back in time. We are planning another visit when the pool will be open. Also great walks along the coast.

A suite with sea view is truly beautiful. I wouldn't describe the hotel as quaint but very smart, clean relaxing. The staff were all very helpful and polite and reception well run and efficient. Very nice restaurant and meals.

We stayed in this hotel last week for two nights and were really surprised how nice it was.
The hotel is over a hundred years old and has a lot of original features. Our room was lovely and spotlessly clean with a lovely sea view. We had a free cream tea with our booking that was delicious, and the breakfasts were excellent with lots of variety.
The weather wasn't great but we went to the Arundel shopping centre which was five minuets by car and was pleasantly surprised how nice it was. Also there are loads of places to eat in Eastbourne of every nationality. Would we return to this hotel defiantly.

Stayed at this hotel with a group of friends and we all had lovely rooms with amazing views. The room was spacious, sumptious and very clean and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel has an old fashioned feel which goes with it's age, a feel, that they try very hard to maintain and succeed, but with all the mod cons needed to keep the customers happy. The staff are polite and efficient, the dining rooms and food were lovely and you won't find a better afternoon tea. The hotel is a little walk to the town center, but a nice walk on the seafront. The grounds are impeccable, wel worth a visit,

Just returned from a night away at this great hotel in Eastbourne. What marvellous value and we were made to feel very welcome here. Our room overlooking the sea was very spacious and very clean and comfortable. Even Mr and Mrs Seagull enjoyed spending the night outside our window!
An excellent menu in the main restaurant with some very impressive food. We shall definitely be returning to this great 3 star hotel.

My husband and I visit this hotel on a regular basis and it never lets us down. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Best cream tea to be had anywhere in Eastbourne and the restaurant food is varied and delicious . Rooms clean and well furnished. This hotel is set back from the seafront so there is no traffic noise and also has a lovely garden to sit in if the weather permits from which there is a magnificent sea view.

Returned from a lovely stay in the Hydro Hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We were in room 230 on the second floor which had superb views of the downs and Eastbourne. We only had breakfast which was served by very efficient waiter service with an excellent menu. The Hotel is in an excellent position overlooking the sea and has an excellent garden.

Good experience except meal disappointing. Room was good size and view good, except bathroom lights did not work. Staff were helpful and offered alternative room and compensation for lukewarm food. The experience was better than it sounds...

Stayed here a few times and always enjoy our stay. Room had recently been refurbished and one nice touch was the introduction of USB sockets, brilliant that several devices could be charged at the same time. Same lovely ambience in lounge area where many a pot of tea was consumed, especially after a hike along the beach or up along Beachy Head! Love it here and will be back!

My husband and l have just returned home after our second holiday at the Hydro. Our first was last June during a heatwave.

Everything at the hotel was just as we remembered it from our original stay. This time, we booked a side sea view room, 208. It turned out to be spacious with very large windows, twin beds, two comfy chairs and plenty of hanging space in the wardrobe. The windows could be opened which was a real bonus for the two if us. We love our fresh air! The room also had internal sun blinds which we adjusted on bright days to stop the glare.

The en-suite bathroom was a nice size. Fluffy white towels were changed every day.

We enjoyed our breakfasts in the beautiful dining room. The waiting staff are all very friendly and efficient. We also had dinner there at 6.45pm each evening during our stay. The menu is changed every day and offers some tempting treats.

There are a number of comfortable armchairs in the lounge areas. We enjoyed sitting in these each morning after breakfast to read the morning papers which had been delivered to our room earlier. Later on, we would order coffee in the glassed area overlooking the sea.

We thoroughly enjoyed our break at the Hydro. The weather was not as good as it had been on our earlier visit but we still found plenty to do and places of interest to visit.

One always wonders, when returning to an hotel with special memories, if it will have changed. We needn't have worried. It was still the place we remembered. The staff went out of their way to be friendly, chatty and informative. There were still the warm, cosy lounges to relax in and the excellent service and food in the restaurant, and yes the huge meringues were still available in the conservatory! We had a lovely sea view from our bedroom window and two sunny days to appreciate it before the sea fret swept in. Two nights was not enough. We'll have to come back!

Here for two nights and we found everything exceptional, the staff kind and helpful, breakfast excellent, and our room was spotless. We couldn't have asked for anything better. On the second morning when we returned from breakfast, the room had already been made up but there was a knock on the door and we were told that we were getting new mattresses, such luxury!
