The hotel was faultless. Staff were all helpful and polite- nothing was too much trouble. The view from the suite was breathtaking and decor and cleanliness were impeccable. Food at breakfast was first class quality with a very good selection. We would certainly recommend this hotel for a pampering stay. We were sorry to leave as we would have liked to experience the other facilities on offer.

Anything we requested of the staff here was given prompt attention, if you don't like something say so ,to us this a lovely hotel, a great location, parking is easy ,we found service was excellent throughout, both in the restaurant and bar, the conservatory is a delight to sit in for a pre dinner drink with great views,(or to take afternoon tea should you wish)and the Beachy Head panorama is minutes away, take your boots and walk to your hearts content.

After booking two rooms as Doubles upon arrival found we had twin beds after being promised Doubles.
The room itself was very stark White walls, no decorations
We had the evening meal include in our room rate, although the service was good in the restaurant, the food has a lot to be desired, under cooked, watery,. Will not eat there again

Came to Eastbourne to visit a few friends. The staff were very helpful and obliged in every way. Our 2 day stay was a delight. We booked through booking. Com and had a very good price for our pleasant room. Well equipped with toiletries and plenty of coffee and tea. Shower not as good as it could be, therefore the score of 4 plus.
I believe that you get what you pay for. The meal in the main restaurant was ok plus but not expensive. The breakfasts were a delight, go for the haddock, you will not be disappointed
. I organised a little afternoon tea for my wife's lady friends. Nothing elaborate a few sandwiches and gorgeous cakes. However it was served eloquently in a private part of the hotel. Very good value.
Overall the service, although slow to start with, became top class. Enjoyed the conservatory food especially. We would certainly return if coming to Eastbourne again.
Book here you will not be disappointed.

Generally a very nice stay. The hotel is clean and tidy and staff friendly and helpful. The big let down however is the standard of food. Unfortunately this is disappointing. We had our meal in the dining room on the first evening. The chicken was good, but the veg was undercooked. The next evening we opted to eat in the conservatory. I have never tasted such bland soup ever.
My husband uses a wheel chair and we booked the only room suitable for the disabled. The lift is so small we just fitted in it with he chair. Anyone with a wider chair would not stand a chance. This did make our stay harder.
I would like to say that the staff are delightful and helpful.
Improve the lift and the food and we will be back!

I stayed here with family in late February.

To be honest, my expectations were low, so I was very impressed with the hotel and service.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was spacious with all the modcons you need. We also had a fab view of the sea.

The only downside was the service at breakfast - it was slow and the staff seemed very disinterested.

I'd definitely go back.

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 night break at the Hydro Hotel. From the time we arrived we were treated courtesy by very friendly staff. The double room we were given was ideal having a lovely sea view, comfy bed and solid furniture, lovely en-suite with pristine thick towels and excellent shower/bath facilities with all the luxury mod toiletries. Our first night meal was in the Conservatory Restaurant and although we were the only ones dining (still early in the season) the food was very good and wholesome with a good range of choice. The breakfasts were excellent. The Hotel catered well for gluten free customers which pleased my wife. We enjoyed an excellent 2 course evening meal the following night in the Crystal Restaurant where again the food and choices were superb. Served by excellent caring staff. We will certainly return in the future. The Hotel is just off the sea front and about a mile from the town centre and pier, would ideally suit people who enjoy walking in quiet surroundings.

Me and my girlfriend did a Friday to Sunday break at the Hydro Hotel and didn't find anything wrong. Staff were very friendly on arrival quick and easy check in with no problems also.

We had a standard double room which we felt suited our needs as I'm not one to lounge in the room all day anyway but room was clean tidy with tea/coffee available also and the television worked fine with standard freeview. The bathroom was also again very clean and the shower we had worked very well.

We also decided to have breakfast as room service to our room on both days at a charge of just £2 which to me seemed fair enough and you had plenty of choice to choose from getting to pick what you would like the night before and simply hanging it on your door overnight for them to pick up and prepare for you and when it arrived staff were very nice and efficient with their service.

The one problem we had was that the free wi-fi we had did not reach our room (no 321) but we used our 3g network which didn't bother us too much.

Overall our stay was very enjoyable and worth the price payed and I look forward to another visit in the summer.

As a hotel of longstanding we were a bit disappointed by a few issues. The evening food for a hungry person would not suffice and the price for the three course was in our opinion overpriced, the staff were friendly however a few members were untidily dressed for the caliber of the Hotel. If you have a problem with your back, then avoid room 308 as you will have a worse back when you leave due to the worn mattress. We spoke to a few visitors who had said they had been coming for a number of years and wouldn't be returning, so perhaps the new manager/owner should take heed and look into any underlining issues. Pleasant location, good car park, nice ambience, be a shame to see standard s slip.

This was our 3rd trip to this hotel, this time we had a Travelzoo voucher, this was excellent value at £69 for 2 people. Our room had a seaview and huge bed with the usual toiletries, tea/coffee and biscuits supplied. The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice and a Sussex Cream Tea was also included in the price. One cannot fault this hotel for service, staff and cleanliness. The only downside was the weather with gales, rain and sleet, but you cannot choose the weather. Will definitely be returning again.

The Management, Waiting and Service Staff spare no effort in seeking to ensure that our (Disability Stay) week there was a rewarding, worthwhile and thoroughly enjoyable experience. This Hotel is a Land-Based Iconic version of the past (Ocean-Going) Styles and Services.............A reminder that People really do matter, albeit you are paying for the experience. Art Deco Demur. Soft Style Furnishings. Warm Enthusiasms from the Staff and Management. Good Rates that actually beat any pretenders. In short, just go for a week. You will want to stay there. Permanently!

My wife and I stayed at the Hydro Hotel for 3 nights with a bed, breakfast and dinner package. All comments in here have been relayed to the hotel management.

We booked the Hydro for my wife’s birthday weekend after receiving several strong recommendations from family members. We must admit to being somewhat disappointed as the stay was only average. The reason for giving this feedback is that it would not have taken much to turn it into an “exceptional” rating. Problems included:

• A poor check in experience. No information was given on meal times or locations nor did the receptionist give us information on our booked spa packages. When we later asked, it was all on the computer. It would have taken very little extra effort to inform us when checking in of those arrangements.
• The Wi-Fi never worked properly on my mobile phone.
• The bar area was badly laid out and we had to sit in the reception area when having a pre-dinner drink. This was not conducive to having a relaxing quiet drink before dinner.
• No wine list was given to us at the dinner table.
• As the dinner was set there were only 4 choices for each course. On one evening the waiter gave us the menu and then came to take the order. When I ordered pate, he told us that it was not available. Pity he didn’t tell us that when he gave us the menu! What made it worse was 5 minutes later exactly same thing with the same waiter happened to the couple on the next table!!
• Drinks ordered at the table were forgotten and waiters had to be reminded.
• The menu offered the choice of having a glass of dessert wine or port. When my wife asked for a glass of dessert wine the waiter said they only sold dessert wine by the bottle. We pointed out the menu should actually say that. He agreed the wording was misleading.
• When I ordered fresh fruit salad with Raspberry Ripple ice cream I got raspberry sorbet. Nice, but not what I wanted or expected.
• Our room was tired and badly laid out, in that we could not open the doors fully to the wardrobe if standing by the bed. Although the bed and linen was very adequate.
• Weekend booked for a “Special Occasion”, we were not made to feel very special on check in.
• Smoked haddock at breakfast had many bones and had clearly not been checked in the kitchen.
• Porridge made of water when we asked for milk.
• No hotel information in the room.

On the positive side:
• the food was of a high quality, hot, quickly served and tasty.
• the hotel was clean and tidy with good décor.
• the spa treatments we had were good.
• Plenty of hot water and warm throughout. A comfortable bed.

On reflection of what we experienced it is clear the hotel is very focussed on catering for groups of visitors and local parties. During the weekend, most of the best areas of the hotel (drawing room, conservatory etc.) were “reserved” for private parties and not open to guests.

In conclusion, the hotel missed the target with us through several small but correctable issues and a noticeable focus on private parties rather than paying guests.

We arrived early for our check in and from this time we were made extremely welcome, the reception staff were efficient and friendly.
Our room,215, overlooked the garden and sea and was very comfortable, everything was spotlessly clean.
We have stayed in Eastbourne before but not on the seafront and, in spite of the very windy weather we were able to take advantage of the 15 min or so walk along to the pier.
The afternoon cream tea was delicious and the conservatory a relaxing place to sit.
We would definitely consider returning to the Hydro Hotel.
Thanks to all the staff who made our 2 day stay very enjoyable.

Another stay at the Hydro, this time for a mini break during half term week. As good as ever, but still lacking atmospher in public areas due to lack of background music. A little disappointed that there was no recognition of Valentines Day, apart from a few hearts placed in the main dried flower decoration in the Chrystal Restaurant. We didn't book expecting anything, but thought there may be a glass of something on the house with dinner, or a chocolate on our pillow!

If you want good food and enjoy old fashioned values, with comfortable rooms, then this is for you.

My husband and I and our two well behaved whippets were made extremely welcome at this friendly hotel. We had a large room overlooking the pretty garden and the sea. The staff could not have been more accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The warm scone, cream and jam were very welcome and our dogs had so much fuss and attention from the other guests. Breakfast was delicious and our evening meal in the hotel restaurant was superb. Dogs were not allowed in the dining room but this wasn't a problem as you can eat in the bar and lounge area or leave them in the hotel room.
We enjoyed walks along the seafront and in this area we didn't see one piece of litter, everywhere was so clean. It was a leisurely 10 - 15 minute walk into Eastbourne.
We would definitely return.

Excellent in every way from old fashioned service and very helpful staff to wonderful menus and tasteful decor in public rooms and bedrooms. Relaxing atmosphere. Only 3 minutes walk from seafront. You won't be disappointed.

Very nice, "old school" hotel. Friendly, helpful staff. Good facilities and nice food. Comfortable room. Car parking spaces (first come, first served basis). In a quiet area of Eastbourne, on the seafront. Mature clients - most of those we saw on our one night stay would have been aged 65 plus. Bar closed at 10.30 on the night we were there and it was completely empty anyway, so not the sort of place to go partying, but, for those who want a relaxing, quiet, break, I would recommend The Hydro.

We have just returned from a 1 night stay at The Hydro Hotel on a Travelzoo deal. It was excellent value for money, as a cream tea and breakfast were included, as well as a spacious sea view room, for £69.00

The staff are all very friendly and our room was comfortable, with nice toiletries in the bathroom.

Tea and coffee facilities are in the room and a good hairdryer.

The food was excellent and the hotel has a lovely traditional look and feel to it.

We will almost certainly be making a return visit.

This is the 4th time we have stayed at the Hydro and as usual the service was superb and the room was spotless. This is the most relaxing place we have found to stay and the staff are extremely efficient and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble.
The breakfast is always excellent and our evening meals were of a very good standard.
We have given the information to our friends with the knowledge that we don't have to worry that the hotel won't be up to expectations.
We will return to the Hydro later in the year.

Have stayed in this hotel several times love the old fashioned decor. A hearty breakfast is served by friendly staff. Food in the conservatory is second to none lots of choices and all served with that little bit extra. Room service prompt. Maybe bedrooms could do with a bit of tlc but this is a working hotel. Was given a room upgrade. Fantastic weekend. My only advice would be if and when major events being televised for example rugby maybe a communal television room where you can relax and have a drink. Will definitely return to The Hydro.
