Just got home from a 2 night special offer from the Hydro Hotel, The first thing on arrival was an upgrade to a sea view room instead of one of their classic rooms, the special offer included bed and breakfast and evening meal, with a complimentary tea and crumpet when we arrived. The room was well presented, clean and lovely and warm. The evening meals we had were in my opinion outstanding, the service during the whole 2 days was brilliant and the breakfasts were great with so much to choose from. It was outstanding value in my opinion and we are both looking forward to our next stay.

We booked a night's stay in the Hydro hotel as we've been to Eastbourne before, and loved it. We had a lovely room, the Cuckmere, with a picture window and magnificent views over the sea in both directions. The room was large and comfy with a big sofa by the window, Queensize bed, and big bath. A cream tea was part of the deal which we enjoyed in the conservatory overlooking the garden. The evening meal was delicious, slightly more pricey than we expected, but it was my husband's birthday, so we didn't mind. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We have just had a weekend break in this lovely hotel, from afternoon tea in the conservatory to breakfast and evening meal in the restaurant the service and food was 1st class.
We had a delux room facing the sea and the lovely gardens. The bathroom was spotlessly clean with fluffy white towels. The staff from the receptionists to the waiting staff were all very friendly and attentive. We had this weekend through a special offer winter break. But we could have been staying here for a holiday, we could not have been happier.

We were visiting for a friends wedding. It is a lovely situation with stunning views. The food for the function was well presented and tasty. The function rooms were nicely appointed and the staff were friendly and helpful. It reminded us of seaside holidays of years gone by.

We are just back from a brilliant long weekend this hotel should be rated 4 star we had a sea view, our room was lovely and warm with the most comfortable beds. Tea coffee and biscuits plentiful and replenished daily as was the lovely white fluffy towels everything perfect wished we had stayed longer. A special mention to the reception staff who were just brilliant and helpful. The only negative was trying to get a seat in the lounge areas the hotel hire out the whole of this area which Is for afternoon teas for groups and takes away our enjoyment to sit quitely in the hotel lounge areas, but this wouldn't stop us coming again we just wouldn't come on a weekend

Lovely older hotel, complete with creaky lifts. Nostalgic quality experience big on good old customer service and quality dinning. Room was comfortable and well appointed. Restaurant is top drawer. The only negative we could find was no dedicated car park, so we parked in the road.

This is the nicest hotel we have stayed in in the UK. Very well run and although it appears very grand it was extremely comfortable. Staff were particularly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and service was extremely efficient and quick. We stayed for 2 nights in January 2017 for a luncheon function in the Orangery on the Saturday plus another night just to relax. We arrived early and our room was not ready but we were immediately upgraded to a sea-view room so we could get ready. Great service! Breakfasts were delicious and huge with an enormous choice including poached haddock and porridge. We opted for the full English and every item was perfectly prepared. Everywhere in the hotel was immaculately clean. Car parking is free in the hotel car park and there is plenty of free parking in roads surrounding the hotel.

We have stayed here at least once a year for about 15 years now and were delighted that the Hydro has been refurbished tastefully, trimming down the hedge on the sea side of the lawn has opened up sea views and transforms the sea facing public rooms. The public areas are very smart now. Restaurant has a new modern menu and is excellent quality and service. Staff are lovely and as helpful as ever. should easily be 4-star rating now. Having worked in West End hotels for 20 years I can say the standards of this property totally outclass far more expensive chains. New GM has done a great job in updating things without losing the charm and character of this venerable establishment.

For us this was a hotel of two halves. Our room 105 had a sea view, was big enough, very clean and was perhaps the most comfortable hotel bed have slept on but overall the 3 star rating looked right. The public rooms however were impressive. Lovely big and luxurious areas offering lots of places to sit and pass the time of day. Restaurants both looked good and meals were nice with perhaps the desserts being the highlights. Meals, wine and drinks not expensive and afternoon tea looked particularly good and very very popular. Also with the exception of one young waiter possibly inexperienced, all staff throughout hotel were super friendly, efficient and genuinely interested in their guests wellbeing. Some Parking avaiable near hotel and more c 50m away in free hotel car park. Gardens looked nice albeit too cold to visit them! We are determined to revisit in the summer. If the rooms were a bit more luxurious then sure this could be rated a 4 star establishment.

I stayed 2 nights in January while visiting friends nearby.
The staff at reception, at the bar, in the restaurant and coffee shop are all very friendly and welcoming. The hotel does seem to target more elderly people and I noticed that the staff were very friendly to those who seemed to be staying for a longer period, recognising them by name, remembering details they had been told - all very charming.
The room was bright and clean, very comfortable bed and pillows (the most important factors in my opinion) and we had the bonus of a sea view. It's a little way out of town in the Meads area of Eastbourne so this could be important to anyone with mobility issues and no transport.
I have stayed in several hotels in Eastbourne and this was the nicest I have stayed in so far.
My only gripe is that breakfast is only served until 09.30 - which is rather early in my opinion for a hotel who is predominantly serving the leisure market.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here again on a future visit.

Had a most enjoyable stay at this hotel. Warm comfortable spacious bedroom with view towards Beachy Head from bay window in bedroom. All the staff provided excellent service, nothing too much trouble. All our dining experiences were very good, food well presented and enough of it. The hotel itself has an older style to it, but is very clean with a pleasant atmosphere. Lots of places to sit to have a quiet read or just enjoy the view.

We stayed at the hotel when the air show was on and was lucky enough to be able to watch the show from the balcony, the gardens (with a croquet lawn) are well kept & the swimming pool looked inviting!
We ate in the restaurant and the staff cannot do enough for you!. the breakfast was great.
we did find the rooms a little cramped and old fashioned, but the hotel is very charming
and would stay again next time we are in the area.

See my brother-in-law's account of this celebration - I echo it whole-heartedly and I am the seventy year old who celebrated with my family! The hotel thought of every detail, the whole process from my initial inquiry to the execution of the event was smoothe and efficient. The staff were friendly, polite and always on hand to help in any way.

The Meads Room was ideal for our party of 16.

The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and the ones with sea views are well worth it.

The hotel is well known to our family and we will return again ..... and again!

Thank you to all the team.

We stayed here for 1 night on a Travelzoo offer. Great value for money. It is an old-fashioned hotel (opened in 1895). We had a room with a magnificent uninterrupted view of the sea. Breakfast was fine. Room was of a good size. The restaurant did not look that interesting so we had a meal in the town. There were no street lights in the immediate vicinity of the hotel so bring a torch if you are walking into town at night (about 20 mins walk) Free car park at rear of hotel.

Having never been to Eastbourne before, we took a chance on a Travelzoo deal of a stay at the Hydro Hotel - and it turned out to be a perfect treat! The bed was huge and comfortable, the room was spacious and we had a lovely view of the sea - given that it was January and the weather wasn't brilliant, it was great to sit in the chairs by the warm radiator and read/play cards. Our room could have done with some minor decor attention, and the furniture was fairly plain, but I see from the pictures that there are more modern rooms, so I presume the hotel are updating over time.

We had vouchers for a Sussex Cream Tea, which was a perfect addition to our afternoon, and it was really pleasant to sit in the conservatory and enjoy that.
We chose not to eat dinner at the hotel, but breakfast the next day was great - service was quick, staff gave the right amount of care and attention to our needs and the food was all delicious.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Hydro Hotel and would definitely recommend it to friends/family.

Despite living locally we decided to stay overnight at this beautiful warm and friendly hotel. The period look added to our initial first impression and the Christmas décor was superb, both thrilling and blending in perfectly. Our room, affording an excellent view across the gardens and out to the sea was so very comfortable. The bathroom spotless, the room itself neat, tidy, quiet and containing one of the most comfortable beds we agreed we've ever slept in. The Murder Mystery evening was splendid, such good fun and hugely recommended for those who love to be challenged, amused, entertained and fulfilled. The staff were wonderful, extremely courteous and helpful. The food was excellent, hot and tasty; both with the murder mystery event and at breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be looking out for a similar event in the future with a view to staying over again. One of the best hotels we've stayed in - and we have travelled the world!

Overall we were very pleased with our stay. Although the hotel is a little "Old Worldly" the staff were very efficient & helpful at all times. The food was excellent & the restaurant service very good. The bedroom was basic but adequate although the bathroom was very cramped. On returning home my wife found that she had left a blouse behind. On telephoning we were told that it had been found & that they would be pleased to post it on to us but that there would be a £3.00 postage fee. Considering that our group had spent nearly £2000.00 for our New Year break I thought that this was very bad PR. The Hotel Manager insisted that this was company policy. Will certainly have second thoughts before staying at the Hydro again.

We recently stayed at the Hydro Hotel to celebrate my siter-in-law's birthday. On the afternoon of the dinner we had cake and tea in our room for 16 guests, quietly and efficiently served by one of the hotel teams. Pre dinner drinks were served in the nearby lounge and dinner was arranged in the Meads Room. The dining table looked regal. The meal was chosen from the hotel evening menu. Service by the staff team was friendly, understanding and efficient. The winne choice was excellent .
The bedrooms used by those staying were tidy, clean and welcoming. The cleaning team was magical.
We enjoyed a superb long weekend at a hotel which overlooks the English Channel between Eastbourne Pier and Holywell and convenient for walking . It was ex cellent value for money made memorable by the welcome crumpet tea and the friendly staff.
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past and look forward to our next visit.

The Hydro's location is second to none, and it has a traditional feel, which suits us well. We had booked for a short January break, at a bargain rate, with a sea view room at the front. The room we were given on arrival was pleasant, but on the small side. An enquiry at reception led to us being moved to a very quiet, comfortable, palatial room on the first floor, which became our home for the next three days. An enormous window enabled us to enjoy the sea in all its changing moods. We emerged for a good breakfast each morning and enjoyed light food from the bar. All the staff are courteous and helpful and we came away much refreshed.

Just had a fantastic weekend in Eastbourne staying at the Hydro. Booked a sea view room - got 222 at the front which had a fantastic view of the sea as it was situated on the 2nd floor right at the end & directly over the croquet lawn.

We didn't have our evening meal in the hotel but the cream tea in the conservatory and breakfast in the formal dining room were very enjoyable and a real treat.

The place has definite style and a nice sense of 1930's charm.

The quality & attention to detail shines through as all the staff provide excellent service.

Will definitely stay here again when in Eastbourne.

My wife and I have celebrated newyear for the past 15 years in 3 different hotels all within the same group, although they have changed owners a few times. The last 10 years we were in Harrogate, that hotel and interior decoration is the same era as the Hydro.
Newyear 2016 on a recommendation, we came to the Hydro and had a wonderful time. The hotel was warm, friendly and with efficient staff. The whole 3 days was exceptional. Excellent menu's with good options, one night Guinea fowl, lamb or cod and on newyears eve, fillet steak, duck or chicken, and surprise surprise a decent sized side dish of veg. Quite a change from the last 5 years, where two of the newyears eve menu options were beef and lamb and minimal veg. More Gordon the Gopher than Gordon Ramsey. The major difference seems to be Harrogate lashed out on balloons, table decorations and fireworks, the Hydro obviously spend on food and their clients.
The full English breakfast was also excellent, cooked for us, not as Harrogate a buffet service, when often the meal can be past its best.

Any down side, rooms, bathroom shelf space is limited,

TV is to small to watch in comfort, chairs in room are of the dinning room type, would like to see comfortable arm chairs. TV should be at least a 32 inch.

Only disappointment was the pre dinner drinks on the 30th, options orange, apple juice and a sparkling rose, the only wine option, rose and sparkling is not a mixture to savour, and this I am sorry to say was for us horrible, a red and white would have been nice

But the whole newyear celebration was a success, and our congratulations and thanks to all at the Hydro, especially the "backroom" people that we rarely see, but without them the hotel cannot function.

We went as a family group for the New Year weekend on the 3 night package. It was an amazing time. The hotel was faultless - warm, comfortable, friendly and efficient staff, excellent food etc - and the programme well thought out and planned. New Year's Eve itself was exceptional. An amazing meal and dancing to a great band. Thank you to all concerned.

Spent 2016 New Year's Eve break at this fabulous seaside hotel. Fabulous New Year's Eve party with live band & Scottish bag piper. Food throughout was very good with a large menu choice. The rooms are great with very nice toiletries. Kettle in room. Every single member of staff were exceptionally friendly & helpful from the room attendants to reception to the fun loving waiters & waitresses. Very reasonable rates too. We were here last year for NYE 2015 & unless things change we will be back for NYE 2017. We will be booking for the air show too. A really lovely rounded hotel.
