Hydro Hotel

The taxi driver said he took more visitors to the Hydro Hotel than any other in the town. No surprise. The Hydro is unpretentious, very well run, and very comfortable. It is a hotel for real people, down to the jigsaw puzzle on a desk in the lounge. Here you leave behind the corporate “loyalty programs”, theatrical “resorts”, and chilly air conditioning. You sample England, in its sunniest seaside town, with surely one of its best promenades right outside the garden.
Go for the South Downs suite for the best possible view including Beachy Head, and an international class bathroom. Take breakfast in the restaurant, where the service is more like a London gentleman’s club – try the kipper. The hotel is crowded at lunch, but nevertheless retains its hallmark standard of classic dining-room service. In a different era, it might have been the model for a Raj hotel at an Indian hill station, like the Windermere in Darjeeling.

Great atmosphere, one of the last grand old hotels in Eastbourne. Food is acceptable, but not expensive either. Great for afternoon tea in the conservatory. Dogs are allowed in the four where there are tables for dining also.
Great location to be during the Eastbourne Airshow.

Nicely decorated good size room with sea views, breakfast was ok, sliced wonder loaf bread and tinned fruit was the only thing I'd change. Service very friendly.

Stayed here last weekend (8th April - 10th April) for a get away with my mum in-law; and had the most relaxing time ever. The surroundings are so picturesque, and the staff are the friendliest and most helpful; and the food is outstanding as are the rooms. I can understand why my mum in-law has been coming for the last 30 years. I will be coming again very very soon. Just love it.
