I just wanted to say if you are looking for a venue to get married, look no further!!!!

Firstly the hotel is lovely and in an ideal location with spectacular views, which will give your guests the wow factor on arrival.

Also the staff are very friendly and helpful.

I have to thank Gemma and Angie they give you plenty of reassurance on the lead up to the wedding, and are always just a phone call/email away and they are always happy for you to pop in for a chat.

Me and My husband had the best day ever!! And all of our guests have said its the best wedding they have ever been to and that the venue, with the views was absolutely beautiful!!

The food!! How can I forget the food!! The food served at the wedding breakfast was very tasty and looked really advertising and the breakfast the next morning was also lovely.

Id also like to thank Steven who was the manager on duty on our wedding day and who kept the day flowing.

When we were getting to the end of the evening and thought everything was superb and could not get any better we went to our room (the downland suite) and wow Hydro hotel!!!! talk about saving the best till last it was lovely and the views.... Fantastic!!!

The next morning my self and some of the guests even got a chance to take a dip in the pool which was also lovely.

I would not only recommend people to get married at this venue but id also recommend them to stay there!!

Thank you so much Hydro Hotel for making our day even more special :-)

First impressions from the outside were not great but once inside it is a very stylish hotel. A good mixture of old 'grandeur' and new decorations. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The food was very good and the service was very efficient but friendly. There were many facilities that we didn't get time to use, putting, croquet and pool, as we were on a Bridge Weekend.

Having been to this hotel many times over the years, including staying as a resident several times before I lived in Eastbourne, it is sad to see the service go down over the years. Despite advising the hotel of my dietary requirements and on one occasion the restaurant manager denying they were advised in advance and then apologising because he clearly had the information on his desk, they continue not to get things right. The service in the lounge for afternoon tea, even for the "normal" diet was not impressive and the staff need some serious training. I suggest they go to The Langham, where they always get things right where the lunches, afternoon teas and dinners are outstanding and the service impeccable.

We stayed at the Hydro Hotel for a three-night stay in June 2016 and we had such a lovely time that we booked immediately for another three night stay in July 2016. We like the feel of the hotel; the hotel presents as grand and traditional yet modern at the same time. The events run at the hotel look innovative and fun too.

We enjoyed the breakfasts. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the meal was lovely. The staff in the hotel were friendly and provided very good service. Our room was a sea view, comfortable, modern furniture, no squeaky floorboards!

Location wise, this suited us very well as the hotel is on the edge of the town, yet an easy walk to the pier and the town centre. We especially enjoyed the hotel gardens and played croquet - a whole new experience. Next time we intend to try the outdoor swimming pool.

Only stopped here a couple of nights wish it could have been more while visiting relatives in the area. From checking in I knew I had chosen a great hotel for our stay. Having stopped in numerous hotels in the area it was nice not to hunt down a car parking space as the hotel has a car park. Room was nice and clean and had everything you need we had room 305 and had a sea view and views over Eastbourne.Breakfast was very good and service in the breakfast area was exceptional with plenty of staff at hand. What makes the hotel is the decor which adds to its charm and character would definetly stay here again.

I arranged a reunion at this hotel for a small group of friends, because this hotel came recommended by one of the group. It was ideal!
Some of the group had special requests for their rooms – and each of their wishes was fully satisfied.
The reception staff were very friendly and went out of their way to assist us.
There are various different lounges. This meant that as a group, we were able find a group of chairs for us to lounge about in.
This venue is also a popular venue for meetings. This meant that sometimes these lounges were reserved for closed meetings.
This hotel specialises in afternoon teas! There is a selection of very tempting choices. No wonder so many outside visitors come to be indulged.
The food was good. As a vegetarian, I was delighted to find that the evening menu always had a choice of three vegetarian dishes – one of which changed each day.
Some of the staff in the restaurant were good, but this was not always the case.
The location high on the ridge results in excellent sea views.
Looking forwards to returning here again.

Location of hotel is overlooking Beachy Head and the sea. What's not to like? The gardens are lovely and can get very hot in the sun as fairly shaded by large shrubbery. A really nice "quiet" hotel with a lovely conservatory area to sit and have afternoon tea. The rooms are clean, fairly large with very comfy beds, staff are very friendly and helpful. Food wise cannot fault the place. A very "traditional" hotel where you really do get the personal touch. Eastbourne not too far for a walk (about 20 mins). I would say it's for older people, not really a place for young "groups" of people to stay unless you like a quiet hotel. We stayed here in May for one night and came back in July but this time for two nights, would definitely come back.

Visited this hotel many years ago and was impressed back then. Very glad to say that things are still just as good today. Had a wonderful short break in a very comfortable and clean hotel. Food was excellent and all staff very friendly and helpful. Room was also very nice and we had a sea view which was a bonus. Shame we could not organize the weather quite so well though. Would not hesitate to come back again in the future.

I booked here as a sad unaccompanied dad having delivered our two boys to two teenage parties in Kent and East Sussex respectively. I am not old; neither is my good wife who was completing her studies in Cambridge while I was doing the rounds in the SE. I know you are not interested in why I came to be here but the verdict is:

A lovely, heartfelt traditional hotel overlooking the sea; a place where I felt at home; a place of excellent value and somewhere where I shall bring the rest of the family when they have qualified; and a pretty contemporary room; a lovely breakfast interrupted only when my son phoned me ringringmobilephonembarrasingly in the expansive restaurant to say it was time to extricate him from the netherworld of rural Sussex.

Just before I left, I whizzed round the grounds to find a sun terrace and a hidden heated swimming pool with views superior to other hotels on the stretch. Do give it a try.

For my granddaughter s 12th birthday I arranged a visit for 5 of us to have Afternoon Tea.
She was made to feel very special and enjoyed the whole experience
Atmosphere was lovely
The view out to sea was stunning and the food was divine.
We could not eat all that we had and were given cake boxes to take home the remaining gorgeous scones and cream cakes.
Staff were lovely too.
A fabulous afternoon and looking forward to another visit .

After visiting family in Brighton we decided to stay a couple of days In Eastbourne as a birthday treat. What a good decision to choose the Hydro Hotel. A couple of reviews have said "old world charm" and that is a perfect description. Our room was large with a king sized bed and very clean, a little dark in the day time maybe, so you had to sit near the window to read but with great sea views looking out towards Beachy Head it was very good. The room (sorry can't remember what number it was) did get quite warm and that was in May, so in the height of summer it would be a bit uncomfortable, I think air con would have made our room perfect. I did have a problem connecting to wifi in the room so had to go the lounge to connect but I'm sure that would be sorted. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and the food was excellent. Would definitely return to this Hotel.

One night stay at the Hydro, smooth check in , great room with amazing sea views , good size room , king size bed very comfortable, lovely white sheets and towels ( very fussy on this!) we booked for evening meal , could not fault it , service or the food ! Best rump steak I've had for a long time. George our waiter was very smooth and professional! Breakfast just as good plus huge choice. Even the sun came out for us , we will be back .

Arrived on the Friday for a long weekend. First impressions were great, we had room 222 which overlooked the garden with a sea view, perfect. Had a wander into town to get our bearings, then back to the hotel for a few drinks before eating....
All the staff were welcoming and friendly and seemed to be happy in their work, which is not always the case at some hotels.
There were a couple of dogs staying which we both thought was very unusual but a great thing for pet owners and other guests alike.
The bonus for us was the outdoor pool - and it was heated and not very busy despite the reasonable weather we had whilst there.
It would appear that this hotel has a number of repeat visitors; there was a wedding on the Saturday, and various celebrations on the Sunday, so a busy hotel, but the service doesn't suffer because of that.
Breakfast was lovely; again the staff were faultless, the cereal etc is help yourself, but the full English is ordered and cooked for you individually, again not something that you see much anymore.
If we had one (minor) complaint it would be that there was no hot food available after 8.30pm in the bar.
Will we go back? Absolutely, we had a perfect long weekend in a superb hotel...

The Hydro Hotel provided more than we had hoped for. Much to our surprise and delight on our arrival we were told that we had been upgraded! After a very busy few months this really helped us to relax and enjoy our stay. The hotel certainly has an old world charm but that doesn't mean it's old world when it comes to service. We were always dealt with courtesy and kindness. The reception staff went out of their way to help over a particular task that we needed to fulfill. Thank you for going the extra mile.

After trying the cream teas at several hotels along our beautiful seafront I was feeling somewhat dispapointed. I knew there had to be one that offered a fresh, delicious treat and I inally found it at The Hydro Hotel! It was quite a bit more expensive tha rivals but worth every penny. For £15.50 per person you can enjoy the following:

A Selection of Assorted Sandwiches
Traditional Cucumber, Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese & Tomato

Fresh Homemade Scones with fresh Clotted Cream and Jam

A selection of Cakes and Sweet Pastries

Tea/Coffee
(2 cup serving per person)

It seems the only picture is of all the things we did on the day (for mother's day). The picture on the right is of the food received

What a rare find, lovely grand building circa 1894, just up of the seafront in a quiet area. The whole ambience is one of old style quality and service, with large quiet areas to talk without background music!! thank goodness, and all the staff eager to help. Our room (222) was on a corner with a double aspect, one of which superb views out across the croquet lawns and across the Channel, beautiful, clean and comfortable. One of the dining rooms was the Crystal restaurant where I enjoyed one of the largest and tender lamb shanks ever, and the restaurant staff at all times were very attentive to ones needs, full marks Hydro a rare treat in these days, long may you prosper.

My husband and l have just returned home after a week's holiday at The Hydro. It was our first stay, although we had visited the hotel for afternoon tea several years back on the recommendation of a Sussex-based friend.

From the moment of our arrival, we were treated like royalty. The service in all areas is top-notch. We were tired after a long drive so a porter was called to help us with our three cases to our room on the first floor. Our room was well appointed with a view to die for. We looked out across the croquet lawn to the sea beyond. Our bathroom was a little tight but adequate for two. Snowy white towels and a bathmat were changed every day.

We chose to dine in the hotel on every night of our stay. The grand dining room is staffed by a number of friendly, informative and efficient waiters and waitresses. The food is excellent and beautifully presented. The menu is extensive and there are choices to suit all tastes. Breakfasts are nicely cooked to order. Room service is available for those who require it.

There are a number of comfy armchairs in the various lounges. We often took our daily papers to read there after breakfast. The bar area is situated in the large sun lounge where there are a number of tables and chairs for guests. Light meals and snacks can be taken here. This area looks out across the lawn to the sea. There are also books and magazines for guests to borrow.

Annette has a small hairdressing salon on the ground floor off one of the lounges. I enjoyed two sessions there during our week's stay. There is also a beauty salon on the first floor offering various treatments to both ladies and gentlemen.

We were blessed with excellent weather for our entire holiday. We spent some time walking, we enjoyed an open-top bus ride from the pier to Beachy Head and Burling Gap, and we also visited several National Trust properties in the area. A walk along the beach one morning was most enjoyable.

We did find our room extremely warm because we were holidaying during a heatwave. We wanted a new fan so went out to a Curry's store on our first morning and bought a 12" one for £12.99. It proved a good investment. The hotel may have had fans to lend to guests but we didn't request one. We were, however, able to borrow a small portable table fridge for our bars of chocolate. These are normally available to guests for storage of medicines.

Wifi is free for guests. Vouchers with a code can be picked up at Reception.

Our holiday was one that we will remember for a long time. Thank you to everyone at The Hydro for helping to make it so memorable and enjoyable.

We look forward to a return visit in the not too distant future.

Yeh, go on, look it up. And yes, the Hydro is different, refreshingly traditional in it's delivery of a great stay -from the liveried staff to the grand decor. No buffet breakfast but a superb menu of traditional English breakfast fair delivered by friendly, efficient and attentive staff to your table, and delicious it was too.

Having arrived (quite literally) in the middle of the night, we were greeted by the night porter who skillfully and quickly got us in to our rooms without any of the check in process drivel one is usually subject to at any of the run of the mill chain hotels.
At four in the morning all I wanted was a room and my bed, and our man here delivered the goods quietly and speedily.

Our stay was brief since we had to leave after breakfast - and a most excellent repast it was. With a well appointed and most comfortable room, a good sized bathroom with a user friendly shower and an inexhaustible supply of hot water, topped of with staff whose sole purpose was to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. this was a hotel experience I would very much care to repeat.

Sadly, having arrived late we were not able to try the dinner menu. But if it meets the standards set by the rest of the hotel operation, it must be superb, and my mission now is to return for dinner here.

Lastly, I was delighted to read guest advice on the restaurant dress code. Dressing for dinner is a custom that has largely been lost these days. A great shame too, in my opinion. And with a hotel as beautifully decorated and traditionally presented as the Hydro, not dressing for the occasion would be inexcusable.

I am very much looking forward to a return visit.

Stayed on a travelzoo offer but would definitely visit again. Plenty of car parking space and check in was very efficient and friendly. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Nice restaurant, good food and very well trained waiting staff (the Ritz could pick up a few tips here and I'm not joking).
Quite old fashioned, heavy curtains, wide corridors etc but in a quality way. We had a front seaview room which was very nice with a great view and windows you could actually open all the way. Nice bathroom with huge fluffy towels. The large bed was a bit soft but very comfortable. Lovely garden room very light and airy with a view of the sea and croquet lawn. Pool was small but heated and a beautiful location.
