A very good restaurant for lunch or dinner. Very attentive staff and excellent menu. The food was just superb and such a big portion I could not finish my main meal. Maybe I shouldn't have had a starter but everything is so tempting.

Just around the corner from our favourite small hotel in Eastbourne. Great Italian food. Good atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Sunday evenings in Eastbourne seem, from a cursory glance to be Italian - in terms of dining out. A good number of Italian restaurants plus the chain pizza ex and prezzo to be found but a fair number of privately owned and operated alternatives. How to choose?
A full Sunday lunchtime, lots of children at the tables and people leaving clutching their full tummies ........ all good signs. We chose La Locanda Del Duca had all those signs at lunchtime so we chose it for dinner.
Archetypal flourishes and courtly manners from the waiting staff who were friendly and efficient were a promising welcome and watching their subsequent greetings to later diners were similarly humorous and caring. The list of wine by a glass was well chosen and my Orvieto was superb - husband's Chianti less so but still on the 'good' spectrum. A modest number of starters, our choice of mozzarella, tomatoes and avocado was simply perfect - emphasis on 'simply'.
Calves liver (ugh) followed and the sauce on my salmon was generous which together with more than enough fresh vegetables meant left overs.Despite being urged to be adventurous the husband stuck to ice cream (I didn't use the extra spoon kindly provided). A bit of nosiness across the tables displayed lovely looking pastry desserts.
Large expresso coffees followed by limoncello granita finished us off! OK we had only 3 glasses of wine, one dessert, but 2 aperitifs and large coffees so our bill of £71 was damn good value.
We took advantage of the 2 or 3 course choice menu and the lunchtime version looked even better.Go and try the ambiance - understated true Italian and the food which mirrors that.

The food here is excellent! Definitely no complaints and large portions and not expensive. Decor is 3* though but food is 5*!

Sunday October 2nd saw 74 people descend on this establishment for a Golden Wedding celebratory lunch and - wow - did the staff "turn it all on" for us. Right from producing the anniversary menus to serving the cake and coffee nothing was too much trouble for the dedicated waiters. It must be a family concern for them to work so hard (and then reopen for normal business only a few minutes after the last of our party had departed).
In spite of the numbers a wide ranging menu was on offer the only problem being which of the dishes to plump for. Everything was delivered beautifully presented and piping hot - a real tribute to the Chefs and kitchen staff who must have worked like Trojans. The sorbets and limoncella were additional welcome touches, the wines were excellent and reasonably priced as was the champagne on reception.Everyone went away full of praise for the restaurant and I know that my best friend truly had "a day to remember".

The food is really really good !
There is the only restaurant where I found Lemon Ice Cream haha !Everybody is friendly and smiling. It looks like they really like working there and that is good for the clients.
The restaurant is really pretty and well located.

The more sophisticated of the two adjoining restaurants, La Locanda continues to deserve its glowing reputation. the welcome is brisk, friendly and efficient, the menu extensive, covering the standard and popular Italian dishes as well as a very good range of meat and fish. The 'Chef Recommends...' change regularly and are well worth considering. Allergies are taken in their stride. Wines are by the bottle and glass (there are no half bottles) and the fairly priced. The standard of cooking is high and the Owner is always in and out of his two restaurants ensuring that they are running smoothly. It is very good value for money.
La Locanda commands a very loyal local clientele, is very popular and booking is highly advisable. It is the best restaurant in town by a street.

We found this by chance while looking for somewhere to eat on our holiday in Eastbourne, they were very very busy but we were early so managed to get in. A really nice place with good food and service. Complimentary olives on the table and a good basket of bread while we looked at the menu. A good menu with lots of choices so something to suit everyone. We enjoyed our meal very much and would like to visit again if our time left in Eastbourne on holiday allows us to.

The best Italian meal I've had in ages. I had zucchini to start and it was amazing and with a wonderful fresh tomato and basil sauce. I had chicken and artichoke pasta as a main which was full of flavour and delicious. Then caramel panacota which was scrummy. It was my friends birthday and all the staff sang happy birthday and gave her a free dessert with a candle in and a birthday card! She was thrilled. The staff were very friendly and attentive without intruding and we really enjoyed our meal. They also gave us complimentary frozen lemoncellos after the meal which were delicious. Just wish we lived nearer so we could visit more often!

This is my third review. We are in Eastbourne twice each year and have been eating here for years. The staff are fantastic and we really like them. This restaurant is certainly one of the very best in Eastbourne. The atmosphere is lovely. We always get a great welcome with kisses and hugs. The food is well prepared and the service is first class. It's well worth a visit.

Just spent a very pleasant evening at this restaurant with my friend. Our food was fresh, hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and the service was good. We felt our bill to be reasonable and if we didn't live over 200 miles away would visit again!

The restaurant was recommended by The Grand Hotel so we were expecting something fairly good. We booked a table for a Wednesday evening and arrived to find it nearly full which tended to support the hotel’s recommendation.
It was a very warm evening so I had a couple of bottles of Peroni (they don’t do pints) and my wife had a Mojito cocktail which is one of her favourites and she tells me it was done very well.
My wife’s starter was Minestrone soup which she assures me was quite superb; I had Mozzarella tricolore (tomato, mozzarella and avocado salad) which was excellent. The Monzarella was excellent quality, moist and tasty.
For the main courses, my wife had Petto di pollo ai funghi (pan-fried chicken breast with mushroom and white wine sauce) which was superb; I went for the Ravioli di carne alla crema di porcini (meat ravioli with a wild mushroom and cream sauce) which was equally excellent. The pasta tasted fresh and home made
Food was washed down with an excellent bottle of Orvieto followed by fresh coffee
The whole meal was under £77 which for such good quality, is very good value for money
All in all, an excellent meal and very good service. We’ll be back.

Been here several times now and can't fault either the food or the service.
It's a little quieter than their sister restaurant next door.

We went as a last minute shall we eat out and a booking was accommodate that day. Food quality is excellent, my husband had sardines to start which were well cooked and presented and were very tasty. I had the sea bass for main which was again beautifully cooked and generously portioned. Perhaps my only criticism was that the service was very quick, a little longer to digest and deliberate over the menu would have been preferred, but in fairness we could have controlled that. A very lovely impromptu supper was had and would thoroughly recommend as a good restaurant with plenty of atmosphere

I've visited this restaurant many times over the past twenty-odd years. It has always been an excellent place to eat. The table linen and cutlery are excellent; the staff
has inevitably changed over the years but none of them has failed to live up to the high standards expected by discerning customers and the charming proprietor. Needless to say the food is always of the highest quality and prices are very reasonable. I recently took some friends for lunch. As they are more or less newcomers to Eastbourne this was their initial visit. They were delighted and since then they have paid several follow-up visits. They love La Locanda and so do I.

The staff here were really accommodating. So much that they brought a pizza from their sister restaurant a few doors along. Great food too. When we visited they were refurbing the outside so there was no signage and we could have missed it - glad we didn't.

This restaurant is not the cheapest, but is the best Italian restaurant in Eastbourne, in my opinion. This is due to the choice, food and service, which are superior to it's competitors. Would certainly recommend it!

My wife and I visited Eastbourne for our wedding anniversary and found this restaurant on trip advisor. After some homework we decided on this gem.
The service is impeccable, the food outstanding, very wide range of wines. The decor is very tidy . Chairs very comfortable, and tables dressed immaculate. I can't praise this enough . We would definitely recommend and be back.
The prices are very reasonable. The portion sizes are perfect . Definitely worth a visit. 5 stars
We are from London and have eaten at the ritz and savoy and we were more than pleased with this restaurant.
