We have visited and stayed in Eastbourne many times and always stayed in the same hotel. However, having been treated badly last time we resolved ‘never again’.
So it was we found The Langham. A delightful, privately owned hotel - always a bonus - at the other end of and set right on the front a pedestrian crossing’s walk from, on a level with the beach and sea with unimpeded views from our room of the pier and coast.
This is Eastbourne’s only four star hotel and its cleanliness, service, care of its guests justifies them all. Our room was spacious, lovely, well furnished and the bed comfortable. Although we prefer a duvet to their sheets and blankets that did not diminish the sleep quality.
The shower room, almost wet room style was spotless with an adequate supply of soft towels and bath robes.
Plenty of well planned hanging space, drawers and two very comfortable arm chairs.
Not surprising then that it was pretty full. And here again they excelled. Whilst many of our fellow guests were in one of two parties the breakfast and dinner arrangements were polished and having a well aired conservatory or loggia on the front for individual pairs or quartets preventing any sense of anything other than personal attention.
There is no congestion at a breakfast buffet because there isn’t one. Everything chosen from their conventional but adequate menu is brought to your table, swiftly and beautifully prepared. No tired toast or expired eggs here. The beautifully flavoured tender bacon hasn’t baked under brass heating lamps.
If there was one disappointment it was my fish at dinner which was properly hot but a little overcooked. The chips were perfect and my wife’s chicken delightful. Our starters were perfect, my wife’s treacle tart apparently lovely.
All in all a satisfyingly enjoyable stay with the bonus of being closer to the sea and an interesting walk eastwards towards the Sovereign Harbour/Marina and the return towards Eastbourne’s fine pier.

We made a late booking for a suite with a sea view. The room was recently and tastefully decorated with an excellent en-suite and the so important extras such as robe, slippers etc. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. Breakfast waa good with table service, not a buffet. Ask to book your car when making the booking.

We decided, at the very last minute, to visit Eastbourne to view the air show. We only booked the evening before & were pleasantly surprised what an excellent hotel we had booked at such short notice.
The staff are friendly, helpful & professional. The room was very comfortable & nicely decorated, & the breakfast which was included in the price was fabulous, the quality was good as was the choice & portions.
We hadn't visited Eastbourne before, but if we return I think we'd be hard pressed to find a better establishment to stay.

We booked a weekend break. The images of the room looked great so we booked a sea view room with four poster.
It came wit complementary port and sherry. Don't touch the sherry, I am sure they mixed it up with the vinegar.
The room had not been decorated or refreshed in years. The curtains were bleached out and furniture was heavy with dust. The decoration was very tired.
The Saturday we booked in had a wedding reception which we were not advised about, not a problem, except we were woken early in the morning by doors slamming and screaming (not the bride and groom I hasten to add) which went on for several minutes.Thank you for that who ever you were.
The food was very good. However, read the menu carefully not all items were under the same price framework and we found ourselves with a larger than expected bill.
The car park is a secure army reserve ground but is not maned 24/7 so you don't have access to you car all the time.

Overall the staff were really good and helpful.

Down here on business and the first thing you notice is that you have to pay for parking. It is situated on the seafront but in august it was blowing a gale and we got drenched when i went outside. The single room was situated at the back and was exceedingly small although everything I required was there. I had a drink in the bar but as anything on tap was limited I ended up with a cider as they didn't have any ales. I have to say although the door to my bedroom and the bed itself lay along the wall to the corridor, I slept really well and didn't hear any noise at all. Breakfast was included and I ate in the conservatory and a well cooked full English arrived very promptly just before a massive group all came in together. Would I visit again...no as everything felt very old in the resort.

Check in was efficient and welcoming. We were handed our key and directed to our room on the 3rd floor. The lift was for 6 persons but we took the stairs. First impressions - nice carpet and decor. Clean and fresh aroma. Disappointed at room size. Very small, more suited to a single. Decided not to quibble as we would only sleep in the room. How wrong we were! Unpacked one at a time as there was not enough room for us both to move around at the same time. The ensuite was no more than a cupboard, smaller than our airing cupboard at home, with the door opening into the room. There was nowhere other than the toilet seat lid to put a washbag - no thank you. Managed by using ensuite with door open and washbag on dressing table in room. Standing at the washbasin my elbows hit the shower glass on one side or the wall. Once the shower was operated, the room was like a sauna and remained so throughout the night even with the window open. There was a fan provided but it was noisy. We laid on top of the bed but sleep was futile. I spoke to the receptionist in the morning and with no hesitation she offered a room change. I told her we were not expecting the Ritz just a room suitable for two adults. We accepted the room offered and from there on our stay was splendid. The room was not huge but a usable size. It was very clean, light and airy. There was plenty of drawer space and a good wardrobe with sufficient hangers. We had two chairs, a dressing table and plenty of lighting. A couple more power points would be useful. It was quiet and we slept well for the rest of our 4 night stay. The tea and coffee tray was replenished daily including a pack of biscuits. There was a good sized mirror over the dressing table as well as a full length mirror. The recently refurbished ensuite was roomy with a shower over a good sized bath. The towels were large, white and fluffy. Well done! No skimpy thin Hotel towels here. Hot water was plentiful. Nice toiletries. We were booked on a half board basis. The dining room was nicely decorated with a variety of photographs and pictures adorning the walls. Tables were laid for 8, 6, 4 or two. The various awards for Hotel cuisine are well deserved. Menus were inspiring with 4 choices for each course at dinner. There were plenty of waiting staff so meals arrived quickly and efficviently with a smile.Meals were served at the table, always hot and beautifully presented. Dinner ended with coffee or tea and chocolate mints brought to the table. We didn't feel rushed to leave the dining room. Breakfasts were freshly cooked, well presented and hot. Lots of choices available. Portions were ample. All mealtimes were a treat - civilised table service rather than the often manic buffet self service set up. There was evening entertainment but we preferred to enjoy the good weather with an evening walk along the beautiful seafront. WiFi throughout the Hotel was good, even in bedrooms. All staff were warm and friendly and never passed by without a greeting. Would definitely have given 5/5 if not for the poor start.

Stayed on a 4 night break. Could not fault this hotel at all. All the staff deserve a mention for their professionalism and attention to detail. Their customer care attitude is second to none. My room was clean, the towels were huge, such a change as some hotels only offer little skimpy ones! The breakfasts and dinners were all of very high standard, with good quality ingredients. It's no surprise to read that the hotel has won awards for their food. It's even the small details like how they keep the front door so polished that show how they care and strive to excellence. A brilliant stay - looking forward to returning.

Booked deal via Secret Escapes and upgraded to Superior Sea View room (212). Definitely worth the extra as views amazing. We booked evening meal for our 1st night. Sadly not impressed but to be fair hotel noted our concerns and didn't charge us the supplements extra. Room clean and bathroom spacious. Breakfast really good and cooked to order - we loved the fresh fruit salads .. yummy - so much to eat. Would happily return as so much to do in the area.

Booked a single sea view room through Travelzoo's member rates and received an upgrade to a superior double sea view. The room was fantastic and over looked the beach, which is literally a stones throw away. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had everything needed. The room was also very clean. In the morning Breakfast was a choice from a menu and freshly cooked, it was fantastic.

On the plus side the bedroom was comfortable, well appointed and with a lovely sea view although with the sun pouring in the room was very hot. BUT the restaurant was what we would call C-. Dreary food: my husband said the Moules were the worst he had ever had. We both had chicken as a main course and found it dry, boring and covered in brown gravy. Not what we had expected. However the staff, both in the restaurant and at reception were all delightful. Breakfast was good apart from the coffee which was thin and watery. Car parking is available 3 or 4 minutes walk away. There must be better places in Eastbourne and we don't plan to come back.

Booked in for 3 night stay and was able to upgrade to a double aspect sea view room for only £5 per night. Very comfortable room, very modern en suite, arm chairs to sit and relax, plenty of storage, tea coffee and fresh water every day. Real old fashioned hotel service, in the restaurant everything delivered to your immaculately laid up table by very efficient staff. Great choices on the menu, in fact an excellent stay. Fully recommended

Welcoming reception, tastefully decorated and well equipped room and excellent choice for breakfast and dinner and prompt and cheerful service. What else could you want? Pity my wife and I were only there for one night. Obvious choice for any future visits to Eastbourne.

We fancied an overnight stay in Eastbourne with another couple and chose this hotel on the back of the previous good reviews. It was pouring with rain when we arrived so we were disappointed to be told that the parking we'd reserved for £8 a night was actually a 5 minute walk away. I would suggest that is made apparent when booking. I got lucky and found a space in the side street that was free. The bar was buzzing with a large group there for a big party in the evening. The hotel itself is classic Victorian incorporating modernisations. The room we had was an adequate size with a small en-suite with a corner shower cubicle. At 6 ft 4 I just about fit in between the sliding shower screen and almost wore the rain shower as a hat. The breakfast was not the standard buffet but cooked to order, which I always prefer. The hotel suited out purpose, sea front location and a good price.

I firstly want to say, what an absolutely fantastic hotel! We got married there on Saturday 22nd July 2017. We had the best day you could wish for on your wedding day. Everything ran like clockwork, and the way the staff turned the room around for the wedding breakfast from the ceremony was done with incredible efficiency. The tables looked amazing when they were all set up with the candles and fresh flowers provided by the hotel, plus the decorations we had for them. Team work is what you look for in an establishment when booking somewhere for your special day and that was certainly evident at the Langham. All of our guests loved our choice of venue and commented to us on how well everything went.

The chef Mike and his team out did themselves with our meal, and again all of our guests said how fabulous it was. The receptionist, Tia, was very welcoming and dealt with any requests I asked for on the day speedily and courteously.

That only leaves me to say how professional and friendly we found Simon the manager. From the minute we booked our wedding at the Langham, he has done his up most to make our special day as memorable as possible. He dealt with any queries we had no matter how small and was always on hand to speak with us or replied to emails quickly.

I would like to say a special thank you to Mr and Mrs Kirby, the proprietors, for such an amazing day in your beautiful hotel. The passion you have for what you do is clearly present in the incredible hard working team you have behind you.

A truly well oiled machine.

The Hotel is lovely. Well decorated and the cleaners do a good job. We were on a coach trip for 4 days. The food was good and the staff were friendly, even though all our orders were different ( no this or that!) The room was quite small and the ensuite too, no room for wardrobe just alcove with hangers in.I have heard that there are a lot of small rooms but once you get used to it you work round it, which is fine for a short holiday. For extra payment you can have a large room with a sea view. Overall it was very good and we would be happy to stay there again

Superb hotel, great weekend prices and the staff are fabulous as soon as you arrive. We stayed in the Amberley Room, it was spotlessly clean had a superb queen sized bed with great bedding and pillows. The furnishings were beautiful with lovely sea views. The towels were amazing with great full sized bath sheets. We had dinner booked in the evening as part of the package. The service was again fantastic and the dining room was laid out beautifully with crisp white linen and again super clean. The staff were wonderful and the food was exceptional. We had breakfast again in our package which was served rather than buffet by exceptional staff. I cannot recommend this hotel enough for any friends/families for a weekend away. We have already booked again for my husband and 4 friends to return. Although one night away I was relaxed from the minute I arrived.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for four nights last week. We were part of a coach party. Our room was at the back of the hotel (122) and although on the small size it had plenty of storage space. It was spotless and and appeared to have been recently refurbished. The bathroom also looked to have been refurbished recently, with a lovely bath and shower. You could not fault the food at the hotel. Breakfast was served and there was plenty of choice on the menu. The dinner menu was also good with plenty of choice, and was cooked and presented beautifully. The entertainment at the hotel was good, especially the guy that sang on Monday and Thursday evening. Tuesday was quiz and bingo night, which wasn't for us, and we only watched the guy on Wednesday evening for a short while. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was initially disappointed with the room. It was a very small double. (342). However, that was the only disappointment. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was silver service and freshly cooked. I hate buffet breakfasts! The staff are all efficient, polite and well trained. Unfortunately I left my feather pillow behind. I realised too late and drove home. When I remembered , I called the hotel and they went out of their way to find it and the pillowcase and are posting it back to me tomorrow. It was my mistake but they've gone out of their way to ensure its return. Very impressive.

We stayed here for a ladies night weekend on July 7th. What a lovely hotel it was very clean. The bedroom was comfortable with a lovely large shower. We had a sea view on the second floor and could not ask for a better room.
The food was excellent and the service was prompt. Very pleasant staff from the waiting staff to reception and the cleaning staff.
I would highly recommend the hotel it was a lovely place with a very welcoming atmosphere.
