Visiting an old castle is always worthwhile. The adio guide is nice to listen to and helps you to follow the right track. The lady at the income is really friendly.

valuable place in terms of history. Tickets too expensive. Not a very attractive place for me. But it's worth checking out for yourself.Visited on

Pretty castle with a thousand years of history. There are 2 small exhibitions explaining the history of the Roman fort which was later adapted into a Norman castle. Lovely tea rooms close by.

First built by the Romans, Pevensey castle is a lovely place to visit for anyone interested in history. We did the audio tour and it really helped us understand the history of the place, we found the staff to be really helpful as well.

Yet another beautiful castle and historic site on the South Coast. This location has some of the best preserved Roman walls in the UK. We attended late in the afternoon so the Norman Castle was due to close. But the site of the Roman fort stays open. This meant it was quiet when we attended.
It was great seeing a few families having a picnic in the grounds. Would definitely recommend to history buffs as well as those who'd just like to go to a beautiful and peaceful location.

Beautiful grounds. Great spot for the family or own your own. The grounds are free but to go inside the castle ruins and check out what rooms are there you will have to pay. There are lovely areas to stop for a picture.

Loved it here and so did our puppy. Access all areas so dog friendly. English heritage are definitely one 'on the ball' with dog owners.

A really fascinating castle with so many layers of history to discover.

You have the option of walking inside the outer, Roman wall for free but it's worth paying to see the inner Norman castle.

The English Heritage staff explained the site well and piqued my interest. There's also a handheld audio guide as you walk the castle.

The only downside is that the site has no bathrooms or other facilities.

In all though, well worth a visit.

Great place. So much history in one place. Well looked after. Would have been nice to see inside more towers / rooms or more raised walk ways to get views over the battlements. The volunteer staffing the entry point was very nice and polite. Plenty of photo opportunities. The outer section of the castle is free entry and a great place for picnic too. Amazing to think how many people would have lived here at one point.

A lovely place to visit, so much history is attached to this castle and it’s surrounding areas. Aside from walking in the vast grounds, there is a very nice tea shop and an excellent pub, located in the village and you can visit the very old town hall which was also the gaol house.
I’m lucky to live a half hour drive from Pevensey Castle and visit quite often.
