It's a nice walk out but the castle itself is only open for quite restricted periods and they don't allow dogs though I have no clue why as it's the least of the English Heritage sites that is likely to have issues with the presence of 4-leged friends. If Battle Castle can accommodate dogs throughput then this near wreck of a castle certainly can. Anyway there is not really much to see here.

Absolutely fantastic. Such great history which the audio devices (that are free) tell very well... and not that far from Battle Abbey and field - so you can easily get two great days out in one!

It's a beautiful castle and it was a warm day. It's amazing that a castle has stood there for nearly 2000 years. Awesome!Visited on

I spent an enjoyable 80 minutes walking around the castle ruins and looking at the exhibitions. There are outer walls from a Roman era fort with a medieval keep and bailey castle inside, which was constructed over an original wooden Norman keep and bailey dating from the Norman conquest in 1066. I found it interesting although remember it is a ruin so don't expect too much when you visit. It cost me £7.80 for entrance and £2.50 for parking, I was okay with that, but it is for those interested in the history not somewhere with childrens activities etc.

I was surprised that so much of it is still there. Very good English Heritage audio guide.

Excellent place to visit. I last visited in 2009 and the changes, improvements are quite noticeable.
However, was quite shocked at cost
to visit inside bailey.
Still worth the visit. Still lots to see with no cost.

The Audio Guide really makes this place "come alive". Really interesting place to visit; quite a lot of children obviously all enjoying the experience.

Parking £3. In the outer ring there is no entry. The inner ring costs £7.80. You have to think about it. Everything is easy when the weather is nice. Unfortunately, the tearoom is only open from Thursday to Sunday. We were closed on Wednesday, but Beergarden Old Oak was great.

We stayed in Pevensey Bay and enjoyed a short walk to the castle. Making the most of our English Heritage membership we enjoyed the fascinating castle. It was interesting learning about the history and fascinating to find out the castle was once close to the beach many centuries ago.

Friendly staff and very good audio guide and information boards.

Thank you

Lovely place to go when the sun is shining! Me and my partner are part of English Heritage and are trying to take advantage as much as possible this year. The staff are lovely and answered all our questions. We would definitely recommend doing the audio guide! It helps bring the castle alive!

So amazing history, if you know the story of 1066. This castle goes way back to the Roman empire and then onwards from there. Definitely worth a visit
