When I visit places like this in my own country, my heart swells with pride. It is simply beautiful.
It is set in a wonderful location.
The staff there, albeit, a really informative gentleman, knew his stuff and not just about this site but many other English Heritage sites!

I visited in October 2018. Interesting to learn English and Canadian military were stationed here during ww2. The ruins are obviously much older.

Very beautiful historic sight. I was there on a very warm day this summer. Had a good walk there. In the nearby surroundings you can find a good place to have a refreshment.

Walls and towers. Very old and steeped in
history. From Roman - WW 2. Great space.
Wonderful for kids, adults, dogs, picnics,
and walking. Though in effect a ruin, its
sheer scale radiates importance. You only
pay on crossimg into the inner courtyard.
Small car park. No toilets or cafe. English
Heritage member.

It's ok, not the biggest of castle remains but has a nice outside wall. Did not pay to go in as everything had scaffolding along it with men working. Might visit again next year to see how it looks then.
