Over the many years we have always enjoyed staying at the Grand Eastbourne. The staff and service are first class. We have always enjoyed the excellent food and restaurant ambiance and have never been disappointed.

We come for lunch regularly at this large many starred hotel, either for a full lunch or a snack lunch in one of their lounges. This time it was a snack lunch. A wedding was on, but that didn't mean we had to wait for a full half hour to be served. We could not help noticing that the common rooms looked tired and old fashioned with threadbare carpets and tired furniture. I wonder when this many starred hotel will start a modernising program to update its quite passé decor.

The service from all the staff was exemplary, from the greeting at the front door to the welcome at the reception. The serving staff always went out of their way to ensure that we had a fantastic stay, making us feel as though we were the most important people in the hotel.
The room impresssed us as we walked in, with the spotless bathroom on show which was fully equipped with a bath and shower to the built in wardrobe and safe. Walking past these was the spacious double bedroom with a gloriously clean queen sized bed, which was very comfortable. The room was equipped with both a coffee machine and kettle and a reasonable size TV with normal free to air channels.
The hotel is situated close enough to town to let you walk down, or to the beach and close enough to the South Downs to let you walk to Beachy Head. After all the walking it was good to come back and enjoy either the outdoor or indoor pools, along with the jacuzzi, steam room or sauna.
We found the food at the hotel to be exquisite, offering two fabulous restaurants, which have a dress code to more relaxed dining in the lounge offering light snacks, sandwiches and salads. We would fully endorse using the restaurants as the food and the service is excellent.

Just super that every wish is granted , from request for a room heater to changing restaurant booking st short notice, just so lovely to be looked after . Only small niggle Is that the food wasn’t as good as I thought it would be on the Saturday evening, but breakfast in garden room was fab on the following day, no complaints at all and room also nicely equipped with coffee and tea which was replaced when we were at dinner, maybe a small thing but makes such a difference. All very comfortable and lovely smiley staff , no wonder they win awards !

We always come back to the Grand, as we love the old fashioned courtesy that the staff never fail to display. We stayed in a Junior Suite, room 130, which was lovely and quiet, with very comfortable beds. Dinner in the Mirabelle was excellent, as always. We had really nice treatments in the Spa, and made use of the small but attractive indoor swimming pool. The public areas of the hotel are beautiful. One thing I would say is try and book as good a room as you can afford, as some of the 'deluxe' rooms are a bit on the small side and don't have much of a view. This is true of most large hotels though - it isn't a criticism. The hotel is ideally placed for a walk up to Beachy Head, and is also easily walkable from the station. The only thing that would have added a bit more to our trip was there was no gesture to the fact that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, which the receptionist knew about. A card would have been nice, but this was only a minor thing.

First-class service and comfort with nothing too much trouble. Excellent dining and food quality.
it was a treat to be looked after by having the car parked for us and the luggage collected from the car and taken to the room. We were also delighted to find the dog bed in the room and the complimentary dog food and treats for my wife's guide dog.

We stayed for a weekend break and weren’t sure what to expect, pleasingly it was an amazing place. From kids packs on arrival with useful contents, grand bedrooms, turn down service including milk and cookies for the children and lovely full English breakfast with amazing service from all throughout our stay. Would highly recommend staying here.

A very English experience. Excellent sandwiches, cakes, scones and an exceptional champagne in traditional surroundings with good parking outside. Not cheap though. £200 for 5 guests but worth it for a special occasion.

Hotel is the only 5* hotel on the south coast and the grandeur is still there but some of the furnishings are a little shabby, however, every single member of staff were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed for two nights with the first being dinner bed and breakfast, breakfast is second to none with more than everything you could wish for. We had the chef’s taster menu for dinner which came with a corresponding wine with each course (which was a gift from our son) I don’t drink an awful lot of wine and my husband doesn’t drink wine at all but they accommodated us with an alternative, however I wouldn’t go for the taster menu again, minuscule portions and alas I didn’t enjoy 3 of the 5 courses on offer. Apart from that a fabulous weekend and one we’d love to do again.

My room was tired and in need of updating, but this was reflected in the price. The indoor pool and spa area is also in need of updating/deep clean.. but the outdoor pool was beautiful. The staff were superb. Breakfast was excellent. Would definitely come again. Thank you.

To maintain its 5 star status the hotel needs to be redecorated and new carpets laid. Service was excellent. Gardens need to be better maintained. Swimming pool needs updating. Towels should be available by the pool for residents.

Hotel was gorgeous, lovely location, staff were amazing, dinner was delicious and breakfast very good. Our room was tiny though. I've stayed in many luxury hotels and this is by far the smallest room I'verver had. At least it had tall ceilings which made it bearable.

We stayed 3 nights in executive sea view room. From the outside hotel is indeed very grand and impressive but inside tired and worn. Our room needed new bathroom and new furniture nothing executive about it but a good sea view.
Pool area health spa needs total revamp to make it 5 star.
Service generally good especially housekeeping and concierge. We only had breakfast which was nothing special and a little too late for us at 8am, which then made it busy with queue to get seated and wait to get our order taken.
I think hotel is more suited to elderly couples and although we enjoyed our stay the hotel we feel it doesn’t warrant 5 stars and needs somewhere major investment.

Treated very well by professional and polite members of staff. Good size room, good bar selection and food was very good. Great spa area....found the snooker room, maybe next time will have a game. General enjoyed walking round the hotel. The only downside was everything being charged to your room. Would have liked the option to pay as we went along..

From the time of arrival to our departure our spirits and well being were totally restored. There is only one problem: the speed of time seems to accelerate at a mercurial rate!
As we also come to play at the Bandstand from time to time it is always comforting to have the pleasures of hospitality at the hotel just yards away.

A constantly reliable hotel offering good service, tranquillity, good food and reasonable value. Car parking can be a nightmare at busy times of the year. The restaurant gives greater value than the Mirabelle even though the wine list is the same.

A grand old hotel, full of character and charm, equaled by the friendliness of the staff. Sadly we only had one nights stay, but I will definitely be making a return visit. We ate a dinner and breakfast and both were faultless.

This is a simply amazing hotel. Total luxury and the staff are all amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and when I asked for particular food combinations it was easily done. The room we had was deluxe with a balcony. They made our wedding anniversary so special. The food in the restaurant was excellent - highest end restaurant. It was all outstanding but the sorbets were the most delicious ever. Mango and lime and passion fruit - out of this world. I could have eaten a bucket full. What a special wedding anniversary weekend. THANK YOU

We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by the valet who parked our car and unloaded our luggage the luggage was taken straight up to our room, we used the outdoor pool but the access had quite a few steps the pool itself was heated and had plenty of sunbeds and chairs but needed some parasols as the weather was very hot.we ate in the garden restaurant the first evening the food was excellent. The bedroom was a lovely size but i think the bathroom needed updating. We will be returning soon.

To

Took my elderly parents for a couple of days break. Hotel staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful. Food was excellent. Rooms were fine- very comfortable beds, although bathrooms a little small, and access to 4th floor via service lift was challenging with a wheelchair. Overall a very good stay.

Thoroughly recommend joining Club Elite for a years' worth of substantial discounts on fine dining, spa and gym membership and room deals, amongst many other benefits at this fine 5 star hotel. The buy one get one free buffet breakfasts are just pure luxury and great value..

The grand is an impressive looking hotel, the only 5 star sea front hotel in the area, although the service is excellent, the hotel is not perfect in all areas, so do not go expecting this. Some rooms and or decor is slightly dated.

We had a master suite with balcony (huge) and sea view. We were lucky enough to have the first floor balcony next to the presidential suite both of which are huge, although ours was a little bare with only one table and four mis
matched chairs, some weeds and cobwebs were also in situ. The balconies are st the front of he hotel which also has the car park but then on to the promenade and sea front.

The room was gorgeous, one of the largest I think we have ever had for the money so a real value and the view out to sea from both the four poster king size bed and separate living area was stunning, very clean no complaints here at all.

The service was excellent, everyone very friendly and helpful, the food we had was good, although I would have liked to have seen more local produce, something a bit special for the prestigious nature of the hotel, ( Kellogg’s single service muesli etc for breakfast) the bread didn’t seem anything special either (for toast) However, we did have some lovely bread and meats etc for afternoon snack.

A Good stay

I have just come back from yet another fabulous stay at The Grand. As a family we have been coming here for nearly 20 years. This is a very special , majestic hotel where the staff genuinely care about their guests and go out of their way to provide exceptional service. Our stay was wonderful, we enjoyed room service which was reasonably priced and had some fantastic cocktails in the Bar. The Lemon Drop Martini is my new favourite! Our room was beautifully appointed and recently refurbished, we were both very comfortable . I must also comment on how welcoming the hotel was towards my dog Ollie a black labrador. He also enjoyed room service and received a lovely goody bag full of “Arden Grange” goodies. Such a nice thought. Hotel is very convenient for dog walks being opposite some lovely lawns and of course the beach. The outdoor pool was lovely as always and all the staff in the Health Club were helpful and welcoming. Thank you to all for making our stay so special . Cannot wait to come back .

The service at this hotel was wonderful everyone always happy and greeted you with a hello and a smile. We had 2 rooms a deluxe and executive both of which were lovely and no problems at all and the turn down service was a nice touch. The children enjoyed the pool on 2 days it was so warm they didn’t want to get out.The only disappointment was the evening meal for the children this may have been because there were not many staying at the time we were there but the breakfasts were good with lots of choice. We would definitely stay again but on B and B only the staff really make your stay feel special.

The Grand is an institution and I was still impressed with its elegance and the friendliness of the welcome. However, rooms are dated as are the public areas, and the windows flaking and peeling. The spa looks like a dark throwback to the 1980s, and in an allegedly 5* hotel I was surprised there was no air conditioning in our (very hot) top floor rooms. And it is unacceptable for blackout curtains to be broken (and remain unrepaired for three days) so from sunrise every day the room was bathed in light; and for the room to be sold with a water-damaged and possibly dangerous bathroom and light fitting. This despite 4x visits to Reception and 2x emails. Friendly, yes, but no follow-up or follow-through.

It's a real shame as in so many other ways this place is a welcome return to the slightly old-fashioned elegance and values of yore and its rooms are spacious, beds old but comfortable and the rooms and bathrooms very clean. It just needs some investment.
