Compared with the luxury hotels in the UK and abroad that we have stayed at, this is by far the best.
Location, comfort, service and food outstanding. Classy but not stuffy. Reception staff very welcoming and helpful.

Cannot fault this hotel. Service in particular is outstanding.
Staff are so friendly and helpful. The ambience within the hotel is one of relaxation and informality. The public rooms are beautiful and comfortable.

A nice big suite was great for the family and the friendly staff added to the grand experience. Good food and service in a property proud of its heritage. We've stayed a few times and this makes a good luxury base on the South coast.

Wonderful hosts for food and drinks, lovely dining experience and staff. Spa experience a bit rubbish, spa staff mixed up our treatments and made out like it was our fault which was pretty bad for what was expected.

Had an excellent short stay in The Grand Hotel, staff were very friendly and the hotel very nice.
Just stayed 1 night and really enjoyed the Spa treatments in the health club, dinner at The Mirabelle restaurant and an evening in the cocktail lounge!
Would definitely recommend for an indulgent weekend away. ..

Lovely hotel staff and food would have liked a more comfortable arm chair in bedroom (room 410) very enjoyable stay , would happily recommend this hotel. Hotel car park was full but managed to park in the road outside for around £5.00 for twenty four hours

A special treat to ourselves in this wonderful hotel. from the minute we arrived, we were treated with kindness and made to feel very special. Every member of staff we came into contact with were just amazing and i cannot praise them highly enough. Our room was beautiful and the views out of all 11 windows were superb. The service throughout was absolutely 1st class, this really is a true 5 star hotel.

What an outstanding hotel. This is a proper British 5 * hotel at it's very best.

We had an amazing room (131) with a side sea view. It had been recently refurbished and was immaculate in its presentation and cleanliness. Plenty of storage space too.
The housekeeping staff were traditionally dressed and were a silent presence in the hotel keeping everything just so.

Dinner in The Garden Room was incredible. Proper old fashioned excellent service, the quality of food was excellent as was the presentation.

Breakfast equally did not disappoint. A huge variety of cold and hot food.

We will be back!

An excellent reviving break. A lovely family lunch for Mothering Sunday with attentive staff and lovely food. An amazing vegetarian menu. Lovely just to do nothing but to know that if anything is required there is someone who can help you.

A very well managed luxury hotel let down by its Restaurant. The overall service is excellent and all staff both helpful and knowledgeable. The situation is probably the finest on the South coast and the facility of parking a great advantage.

All staff should really ask and be aware of any guests allergies when food is ordered in the lounge. There could have been a serious consequences if my partner had eaten the salad. We feel a bit let down by this as we had informed the hotel of the allergy

I have satayed at a few Grand Hotels and they are not as grand as this. Beautiful grounds , easy to park and all the touches of a 5 star hotel . Door staff, turn down and excellent courtsey from every employee. The rooms are well appointed and spacious. Showers aren't fully modern walk in cubicles .
There are 2 Restaurants to choose from . I chose the Maribelle as I liked the name but that's the expensive one. The food was nice but not great and all the money really . They charged for service and bottled water was unreasonably expensive . The staff made it feel special though.
Breakfast was in the Garden Restaurant which is a high celing chandiliered hall . It was buffet though you could order from the menu if you had time. Apart from dining, it was great value for the experience of staying at a 5 Star hotel which did feel very special.

Get plates hotter and ask at booking if a preferred room is required. Unfortunately due to our experience it is unlikely that my daughter or myself will visit The Grand again. However, our experience at the Grand will not deter us visiting Eastbourne again

Must report that the lack of hot water in room 20 was quite unacceptable in a 5 star hotel. However this was remedied by Jason finding us alternative accommodation within a day. Nevertheless!!!! Hopefully we shall return..

Service was excellent- lovely view from room. But slightly off putting was that there was only one door separating us from neighbours so heard tv, bathroom & conversations & they were not noisy neighbours (thankfully)

I wanted to take my boyfriend away for a night and the Grand was recommended to me, and I am so glad that we came here, it is really beautiful, peaceful and all the staff were more than happy to help, and very friendly and welcoming. would recommend this hotel to others.

I booked the Grand for afternoon tea for my parents 66th Wedding Anniversary and it was perfect. My elderly parents really enjoyed the traditional bygone era feel of the hotel. The service was really good. The afternoon tea was generous with a selection of sandwiches, scones, savoury tarts and cakes. The option of champagne was excellent value and we left feeling sure we would come again.

They say its a five star hotel, we say its not. From the front, the outside of the building looks impressive and appears to be in good order but go in to reception past the front doors and then the appearance disappoints, it has a faded look but not in a good way, sadly in a horrible mid eighties period look sort of way. The carpets in all the public areas are faded and worn with seams coming apart in several places, walls are marked and the paintwork chipped leading to a shabby look with the whole place needing redecoration.
Our bedroom had probably benefitted from new window blinds a few
years ago although strangely they had been made the exact width of the window so allowed light to filter in on the edges, there were no curtains fitted. The bed had a medium spring mattress so slightly softer than we would normally like but comfortable enough during our two night stay. There was a large double wardrobe and a further single robe with shelves but no drawers. The room had possibly benefitted from some fresh wallpaper during the past ten years but was uninspiring with a mid brown twist pile carpet on the floor which topped a number of creaking floorboards {something evident throughout the parts of the building we encountered) and chipped paintwork particularly at the entrance doorway giving the air of a room that had been well used rather than the sharp fresh look expected of a supposed five star establishment.
The bathroom was a similar size to that found in most three or four bedroom houses so overall not large but this was probably dictated by the constraints of the building rather than by design. It was clean with a powerful shower over the bath as well as a hand held one operating from the bath taps.
Full credit to the housekeeping team who keep the inside of this huge building in such good order considering its condition.
We ate in the Garden Room restaurant on the first night of our stay which also happened to be Mothering Sunday so the staff had been kept very busy catering to the demands of those taking afternoon tea, maybe this contributed to the impression that they were there doing their job but nothing more, orders were taken and food served but no other interaction. We enjoyed the fish cake starter however the main course of roast pork was carved at the table, whilst the vegetables, although not cold definitely weren't going to get any warmer as we waited for the meat to be carved, I really thought this outmoded nonsense was dispensed with in the late seventies, the food itself was ok but sliced pork with roast potatoes, celeriac and broccoli is hardly a complex dish especially when followed by fruit salad, nothing wrong with that in itself but at £42 per person I start to question its value.
The breakfast was also taken in the Garden Room and is part self service and is fine.
A large glass of wine in the bar is about £11 and enjoys a 10% service charge so a glass each for the two of us was £24-40p. Profit needs to be made and that is to be expected but perhaps this just a push too far.
At check out we were asked if we had enjoyed our stay, there was a stony silence and then my wife could contain herself no longer and mentioned very briefly some of the things above, I explained to the receptionist that none of our criticisms were her fault but she was stunned when I suggested that improvements could be made gradually starting at the front of the building and working through in stages.
Clearly, it would in most instances be financially "difficult" to renovate/upgrade the property in one go but a phased redecoration should be an ongoing process in a business such as this and one must suggest there has been a failure in this regard with the building only receiving essential maintenance but continual use over the past thirty years or more have left it in an unfortunate time warp not befitting a five star hotel at the price point it targets.
Whilst I appreciate that I might be criticised for such a lengthy review I believe it to be a fair assessment of our visit at that point in time.

We had a lovely stay at the Grand Hotel over the weekend; we come twice a year and always enjoy ourselves. The hotel is excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend it particularly to older and retired guests but there is plenty for young families too.

Very enjoyable stay in this old style hotel but full of character. Staff friendly and always helpful.
Facilities good to average. Car parking could be an issue if arriving late at night. Food and service in dining rooms very high quality. Drink prices a little high..
Dog friendly hotel. Hotel always has weekend entertainment monthly. My wife would certainly consider staying there again should we be in the area.

All very pleasant and comfortable. staff have welcoming attitude and make everything easy. All much appreciated. The bathroom is rather antiquated with no grab handles in over bath shower which would be appreciated by more elderly guests
