I wanted to stay in the hotel that Debussy had stayed in. A helpful member of staff showed me the Debussy suite. We had a very pleasant stay, and I wish it had been longer! The pool looked very inviting, but we didn’t use it.

I've stayed a couple of times here and it a relaxing stay - all the staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is spacious and the outside pool is very welcome in the heat of summer. The rooms though will need updating as the decor is getting tired. WI FI worked well and the free copy of the Sunday Times was very welcome.

The concierge especially as well as other staff were amazing. Very friendly and professional. Perfect quiet location. Within minutes of arriving by car we were made very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble.

A beautiful hotel filled with lovely staff, however they lack in attention to details to make it trully "grand". Staff dont seem to communicate with each other, so it is really hard to follow up on requests if you don't speak with the same person. We had to repeat our request for an ironing board and a mini fridge at least in 3 different occasions. For a 5* hotel of this size I find very silly that rooms dont have their own minibars and you have to request them. Ours, sadly was hotter inside than outside so totally missed the point.

That said, it is still a beautiful building (some bits could use a refresh) with excellent facilities - indoor and outdoor (heated) pools and a spa. We had one of the 2 bed suites on the ground floor and I must say the room was huge with plenty of space for our little family. For 3 adults we could have found some more bathroom amenities though.

Breakfast was Ok, but I found silly to offer full english breakfast on the a la carte menu as it is reduntant since all items are already on the buffet and it makes longer waiting times for guests that want other items such as omelettes. All items on offer were of good quality and plenty, but service felt rushed as if they were understaffed and requestes took long to be fullfilled.

Location is great with easy access to the beach and local shops and restaurants. Overall a nice stay but not sure if we would be coming back for more.

The Grand is everything it should be - it maintains lovely Victorian charm in both the public spaces and the rooms. We very much enjoyed our breakfast and champagne afternoon tea. All the staff are very friendly, professional and helpful - and the bar staff skilled cocktail makers - delicious! We had a very relaxing weekend - quite a treat.

Sadly our stay was marred by our visit to the Mirabelle restaurant. Although we cannot fault the staff, the meal was awful. The starters were dry and unplatable and the portion size was a joke. The main meal was not much better ( I ordered pressed lamb ) and it was dry and fairly tasteless. We definitely will not be going back there

I took my daughter and 4 year old grandchild to the grand. Myself and my daughter always try and go at least twice a year, we call it our chil place. It was the first time for my granddaughter and she loved it. She had a dressing gown and slippers all ready for the spa waiting in the room and milk and a cookie in her room at bedtime. I was so impressed with it. Also on a arrival she was given a backpack with the grand on t, with a fold up frisby and a drinking bottle. All the staff are fantastic and very friendly they can’t do enough for you, they make everyone feel special. Our first day we used the inside pool, everyone there so friendly. The second morning was so different. My granddaughter woke very early and wanted to go to the pool before breakfast so we did.as soon as we got in the pool an elderly man swam up to us and told us to move to the other end of the pool, as on one side there’s another shallow end. But there wasn’t any steps Ito the pool that end, nd as I’m a non swimmer I didn’t feel comfortable walking to that end in water with a four year old, so I stayed where we was out of the swimmers way. He then came up and told us to move again, which I replied no we are ok here we are not in your way. Again he came up and said loudly will u please move to that end, I said no we are no where near you and staying where we was and this pool doesn’t belong to you, we are not interfering with you , he then swam to the other end calling me ignorant whatever. My poor granddaughter who loves the water wouldn’t move from the side, just stood there looking terrified. When we got out, I told the reception at the pool. He knew exactly who I was talking about, as they have had many complaints about this man. Apparently he’s.a member and thinks he owns the place. My granddaughter still mentions that horrible man and asks why does he think he owns the pool.? Just beware of him in the pool if you have children and stand up to him. Hopefully they spoke to him but if he’s already had complaints he’s not going to take any notice.. Apart from him we had a wonderful time s always. Thanks again for the lovely things my granddaughter got and making he feel very special..

We stayed here for a night as a treat. The staff service is brilliant. Other businesses could learn a lot from the grand. The room was ok. All very clean and tidy. Only hang up was that there was no fridge in the room. I’d stay again anytime.

staff were excellent in all departments and breakfast was good. Our meals in both Garden and Mirabelle were very average and not up to the standard we expected and service very slow. We enjoyed the relaxation but expected more from the room and meals apart from breakfast which was good. We have stayed in many 5 star hotels and had better service.

Beautiful building in and outside in an outstanding location. Beds are comfortable, side room overlooking road is subject to traffic noises but quiet at night time. Would stay again. Spa changing rooms are dated but pool is beautiful

I stayed here with my family (2 adults and 3 children). From check in to check out we were treated to a five star experience that we cannot fault. The staff are all wonderful. The food and staff in the Garden Restaurant were amazing. My daughter has a peanut allergy and their expertise and sensitivity towards her meant that her dining experience was un-hampered in any way. The suite was spacious and well equipped. The leisure facilities were clean and both the indoor and outdoor pools were well enjoyed during our stay. We would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful hotel.

I had a 3 night break here with my family. I will be back. It's definitely geared for an older, more sedate, and quieter guest however ...but I could not fault the service. In my opinion, it would benefit from more music in general, the carpets need restretching and fitting in places and at breakfast the hot plates are too hot to handle! The restaurant is just a little stuffy and the lifts are in need of a refurb. However, all in all a lovely stay.

We booked and paid £97-50 for three of us to celebrate on the day of my 60th birthday. A very average afternoon tea, not much filling in the sandwiches or enough of them, passable cakes, acceptable plain scones. More tea on request. The palm court orchestra was delightful, the staff were pleasant.
However - anywhere you look on the internet the material referring to afternoon teas here will reference glasses of champagne at £8-50 - 'upgrade your afternoon tea anytime' - so, whilst dining, we asked for 4 glasses of house champagne (being opened and poured in the room) for which we were charged nearly £60 at the end of the meal.
I wrote when we returned and was fobbed off in a phone call which claimed we had been given a discount on the usual price of in excess of £20 a glass. We will not return.

Most of what you would expect for a hotel of this price and reputation. Facilities and service were great, but provision for young baby could have been better, and the lack of a fridge in the room was a surprise.

A beautiful hotel with in a great location. Old fashioned high standard of service, attention and professionalism. Lovely room at the rear of the property which was spacious, well appointed and very clean. Any special requests were dealt with happily and promptly.

Here for the company do out-of-season we decided to stay for an extra night after the bosses had gone. It's a proper lovely getaway.

I'm sorry I don't agree with people who think that luxury hotels need to offer up the same vibe. This place does not need updating - that's the last thing it needs. It needs a wee bit of maintenance in certain areas. But you can see how hard that would be with some of the genuinely Victorian fixtures and fittings. You know what....I'd rather have the ambience and a little bit of scuff here or there than some new s**t that you can find anywhere.

Here the Grand is the gateway to a truly eccentric seaside town. Walk around and the town is higgledy piggledy with quirky old buildings and some classy architecture from the 1920s and 1930s.

The rooms are very comfortable. We had a lovely room in a turret with a sea view. The bed was super comfy. We slept like logs. The only reason for lost points is because I couldn't get the Wi-Fi to work. This is no bad thing when you want to avoid work, however when you are using it to plan your hols, where to eat, walking routes etc... In fairness, I didn't ask for help with sorting it out.

We had some cocktails in the bar - these were very nice too. Check-in and out was fast. Staff are super helpful. Breakfast is terrific.

My partners family frequent this hotel often for their family holiday and have done for years. I was lucky enough to join them once at Christmas a few years ago and then again during the air show recently.
The hotel is lovely, the pool is great, they do a good silver service and the restaurant is exceptional for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All the staff always say hello which is a nice touch.
Hope to be back again soon,
Thanks,
Lauren

Very well staffed. Expensive dinners. Excellent swimming/spa. Room rather dated but good ensuite, TV and bed. Well away from town centre. An expensive treat that is reasonable value for money overall.

My wife and I visited this Hotel as a 50th Wedding Anniversary Experience Gift from our immediate family, and we thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings, food, service and attention from the staff. . . . . .

A lovely few days spent at the Grand. The minute you arrive you are made to feel welcome. The hotel decor is beautiful and we had the added fun of the outdoor swimming pool. We stayed in one of the executive rooms that are spacious. My only criticism is the bathroom which is a little tired and dated and not up to standard. Our meal in the Garden restaurant was excellent with attentive service and beautiful surroundings. This is a hotel that we visit over and over and always come away with lovely memories. Thank you

The relaxed elegance of this palace by the sea draws me back time and again. Yes, it is a little warn around the edges and does not have all the features of a chain hotel, but that is not its point. One example of why I love this place: How many of us are irritated when we stay in a good hotel but we have to feed our own toast into a conveyor belt and wait for it to come out half cooked the other side? Or return to the machine to find someone else has taken our toast. Well, you get none of that at the Grand. They make and bring the toast promptly to you. In my opinion the breakfast at the Grand is the best large hotel breakfast anywhere in the World. The location is simply perfect too with beautiful views of the sea towards Beachy Head and the lovely gardens that lead towards it. Granted the town itself is still a bit shabby, but going west from the hotel there are beautiful walks and the sea is lovely to swim in - just a few seconds from the hotel changing rooms. The staff as always were a delight. So many of them are the same each year and that is pretty rare these days.

I stayed at the Grand with my sister and our children for one night. Everything about it was perfect. The staff cannot do enough to make you feel special. Children are given a particularly good welcome. The milk and cookies at bed time was wonderful. Thank you to all of the staff at The Grand for such a special holiday.
