Family holiday, stayed here for a week in July, all I can really say is this is just a fantastic hotel. Beautiful building and gardens. The rooms were lovely but the ones we had were quiet small. Very nice outside pool, gym and spa area. All staff are friendly and approachable, the reception staff are very knowledgeable of the local area, and are willing to help with all requests. The food in all bars / restaurants is delicious with great service. This hotel is in a perfect location for St Peter Port town and seafront which are a few minutes walk away. Perfect holiday, no complaints and would certainly stay again in the future.

Just returned from The Old Government House Hotel, Guernsey after having the most wonderful time. All the staff went out of their way to make us so welcome. The food was superb and all the little extras were catered for.
This is not our first visit and will certainly not be our last.

Quite simply, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. OGH is classically elegant, offering you affordable luxury. Even before you get there you are sent a ‘guest preference form’ so they can supply everything that will help make your stay perfect - and from the moment you arrive, you are treated like royalty.

Going for a ‘mother and daughter’ break, this was our second trip to OGH – our room was spacious, exceedingly comfortable and spotless. The bed linen is to die for, beautifully mongrammed with ‘OGH’ and the toiletries are all L’Occitane. The tea and coffee tray is exceptional and the turndown service each evening with little bags of goodies left on the pillow is a lovely touch.

The spa offers a first class service with warm and friendly therapists. There is a comprehensive list of treatments – all of which offer great value for money. After a busy day out on our feet, it was great to be able to use the steam room and jacuzzi’s to unwind.

Hotels are not often renowned for their food but at OGH, this really is exceptional. Using local, seasonal ingredients, quality of the fayre is outstanding. The afternoon tea is a ‘must-do’ but go hungry as the portions are very generous.

Possibly, the stand out feature though must be the staff. Headed up by a wonderful general manager (Andrew Chantrell), many of the staff remembered us from our short stay 3 years ago. We were welcomed back like old friends and they couldn’t do enough to make our stay as happy as possible.

So wonderful is this hotel, that I have booked to go back in September with my husband for a mini break to celebrate our birthdays. We can’t wait!

Much improved over the past several years. A premium hotel at a corresponding price - but worth it. Great breakfast and dinner, but there are other exciting places to eat nearby which are well worth a look.

First visit to Guernsey and the Old Government Hotel and Spa was in the perfect location to be. From the minute that we walked in the staff were friendly and attentive. We had our first meal in the curry room and the food was beautiful, as was the wine flight which was wine chosen by the chef. The next night we ate in the Brasserie which again served excellent food. The Maitre'D was knowledgable and friendly, as were the waiters and waitresses. Our room was very comfortable and had a lovely view of the gardens and had sea views. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Had a long weekend / mini-first year wedding anniversary getaway with my wife to the OGH. We had spent our wedding in one of Red Carnation 's London hotels, so chose the place based on reputation. Did not disappoint!

The hotel was quite accommodating in providing a room far away from a wedding celebration and we had peace and quiet for the whole stay.

Location, facilities, staff and restaurant (and atmosphere) were simply exceptional.

Despite venturing out to the other highly-rated restaurants, we eventually gave in and kept coming back to the hotel for our meals towards the end of the trip.

As was the case with our previous experience with Red Carnation, everything was done at a luxury level, but with a sense of ease and familiarity that is hard to convey. My wife and I are and will continue to be repeat customers.

I have attended a function and a lunch recently at the OGH. Food and service was 5 star indeed.

We last stayed two years ago and rarely return to the same place but our last stay had been so good that we decided to return.

I booked the same classic room which we had been happy with. Very small but comfortable. Before our visit I had an e mail to inform us that there would be a function one evening and as our room was above we may be affected.

We were happy to put up with any noise as it was just one night. On arrival we found that we had been given ÂŁ50 food credit which we presumed was for the inconvenience of the noise.

Well we were to find out that there were three functions on all three nights of our stay. On the third one I had to phone reception at 2.35am as people were still talking and we had been unable to sleep.

The receptionist on duty when we checked out just said sorry about the noise and sorry we had not been told about three functions. Premier Inn refund a nights stay for sleepless nights!

A nice hotel with a good team of staff but we wont return.

My wife and I visited here late October to celebrate an anniversary. We were looking forward to our stay here and I'm delighted to report that we were not disappointed.
We were warmly greeted upon arrival and offered a glass of sparkling wine during our check-in process. This was indicative of the level of attentiveness and friendliness that all the hotel staff showed.
Our room was on the second floor overlooking the harbour. The room was spacious, comfortable with a pleasant decor. This is true of the entire hotel, although finding our way to the room proved slightly confusing at first.
Breakfast is served in the Brasserie restaurant. There is a buffet selection of fresh fruits, yoghurts, cereals etc., which were always fresh and well-supplied. Cooked breakfasts are ordered from a menu and cooked freshly - which I approve of (nothing worse that cooked breakfast buffets in my opinion). Too often I find that full English breakfasts are a disappointment, but the OGH got this right. Tasty sausage and bacon - everything cooked just right. The coffee is nice too, but don't be afraid to ask for an extra shot in your cappuccino.
If we are lucky enough to return to Guernsey, the OGH is where we will stay.

We stayed for 4 days at this hotel. I just can not say anything bad about them at all.

Very friendly staff, impeccably clean, the food is first class, the rooms very comfortable.

I challenge anyone to say the have stayed in a better hotel than this.

There service and attention to guests is second to none.

Thank you 😊 to all at the ogh for a wonderful time.

There is a real sense of history here, you can imagine the German officers being billeted here. The decor is very sumptuous, I really liked the padded wallpaper with borders on each panel, I appreciate craftsmanship. 5 star hotels can seem impersonal and corporate but that is not the case here, the staff were friendly and welcoming. We took advantage of the Tennerfest offer of 3 courses for ÂŁ17.50 during October. The standard of food and presentation matches some of the Michellin recommended restaurants we have tried in London. The spa is lovely and the staff are really helpful. The hotel is well positioned in St Peter's Port. The rooms are fairly small but it is in the middle of town. The car park is quite small. We got blocked in and it took 20 minutes to find the driver, not great if you have to catch a plane. You are asked to leave your keys at reception so maybe it was a one off occurrence. We had a lovely short break and I would return.

The hotel is decorate lovely and the rooms we saw were all beautifully furnished, albeit small. We were upgraded to a deluxe room and so relieved as the rooms we had were still very small so no idea what the standard room size was ! The service of the staff and the quality of food was very good though and would definately recommend staying here.

I cannot speak highly enough of this hotel & staff. We visited Guernsey for the weekend with our children (4&5) and from the moment we checked in we were looked after so well. The children had their own small dressing gowns in the room and their own Oggie Bear on their beds. The evening turndown was a complete treat which the children called the hotel fairies! Breakfast was great and so much choice which kept us all happy and set for the day ahead. The girls and I had afternoon tea on Sunday in the cosy lounge whilst my husband tried the gin tasting in the Crown Club, both were fantastic and highly recommended.
The seaview rooms with balcony were ideal as gave us some outside space whilst being protected from the autumn weather. The location was also ideal with just a short walk into town.
Would love to go back to Guernsey and The OGH.

The hotel building is rather dated, but that only adds to it's charm. We stayed in room 108, with large bay windows, from which we could see all of the other channel islands and harbour, quite a view to wake up to! The room was nicely decorated and clean, with plenty of literature regarding Guernsey and tourist attractions. Everything required for a comfortable stay was supplied, we didn't tackle the gym, but the spa and sauna was great. We ate at the hotel, and very good the food was, we could not fault it, nor could we fault the staff, from the restaurant staff to the front desk, all were attentive, polite and helpful. No negative points whatsoever regarding the hotel and staff, a most enjoyable stay, we shall return!

My husband and I were impressed as soon as we arrived at hotel with our hired car quickly taken away and stored in car park. We were then offered a glass of wine and then shown to our twin bedded room with sea view, very impressed. We were then shown round the rest of the luxurious hotel. Fruit and chocolates were in the room and offered champagne to have with our afternoon tea which we had booked for my birthday.
The afternoon tea was delicious, served with the champagne. The service for breakfast, lunch and evening meals was exceptional everyone was so attentive and after the first evening we were referred to by name.

Elizabeth and I stayed at the OGH last night and had a superb experience
On arrival the concierge accompanied me to their car park to show me where to leave my vehicle, we were then given a sparkling wine welcome drink and booked into the hotel
The bedroom was to a very high standard and simply luxurious
Nothing was too much trouble and staff very courteous
Restaurant and bar very good and food delicious
A very good stay and reasonable cost for the luxury provided

My friend and I recently visited the Old Government Hotel and Spa for Afternoon Tea. We were extremely impressed by the attention to detail and service afforded to us. We were served in the Crown Club which has amazing décor and atmosphere. The food was second to none and definitely the best sandwiches ever (would certainly recommend the chicken mayo coated in almond slivers). The Bouchard Finlaysan wine complimented the food (Hannibal and Walker Bay was delicious) and we're looking forward to returning to the hotel just to sample the wines. We would like to give a special mention to Luis who was extremely professional and gave us a very friendly and knowledgeable service. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and topped off the day with specialist gins served by the very attentive Catalin in the bar. Signing up for the 'Gin Passport' was also a highlight and we cant wait to come back and collect the remaining stamps (although that might mean more than one trip as there are 35 of 37 still to sample). We are looking forward to booking the 'Wine Tasting' session next time we visit. Thank you so much to Gareth for making the arrangements and to his team for giving us such a special experience. Sandra and Diane.

Spent 4 nights in the OGH to celebrate my wifes birthday. Booked a king size bedroom with sea view and balcony (room 111). Room overlooked the harbour with a view towards Herm and Sark. Enjoyed our stay at the OGH and would like to come back here. With breakfast included in the price it set us up for the rest of the day. Staff at this hotel are wonderful and can't do enough for you. Highly recommended hotel.

A weekend wedding anniversary trip with friends. Beautiful room with great view. Staff were attentive and very helpful. Nothing too much trouble and that goes for the reception, concierge, restaurant, spa or room staff. It was across the board. The breakfasts were stunning and dinner exceptional. Lovely old world hotel with modern twists. Comfortable lounges and bar areas for a drink or afternoon tea or an after dinner coffee. Always a staff member on hand to offer assistance.
Very convenient for shops although a little climb on way back.
There is a car park and it is very near to the ferry port. Walking distance but as I said a shirt climb at the end.
There are disabled facilities and several lifts to get to all areas.
There is a great spa with lots of lovely treatments. A large gym and spa baths. No indoor pool though. Lovely one outside and a shame not available in Winter months. A temporary roof perhaps for all year use!
I rate this establishment as one of the nicest I have been to for sometime. We will be coming back.

A superb hotel right in the heart of St Peter Port and everything you'd expect of a 5-star hotel. The quality of the accommodation and the service was all first class.

We had a standard room which was lovely although the bathroom was on the small side having to close the bathroom door before being able to sit on the toilet. Not a major issue at all, just an observation.

Loved the turndown service or more to the point, the wrapped brownie left on the pillow. Just a lovely touch.

We were very comfortable here: the food was reliably good, breakfasts were very good and the service throughout was excellent. We took our elderly well behaved dog with us and he was made welcome!
We had a junior suite and it was a large comfortable room but style-wise it was cluttered with furniture, rather like being in an old persons house and initially we could hardly move. We actually asked them to remove a double faced bookcase from the end of the bed, which helped create more space. The furniture in our room was a bit dated, with a well patterned carpet but I think some of the rooms may have been updated. The location of the room was quiet and faced the back over the hill and we didn't hear any traffic or our neighbours.
Tea outside on the terrace was a real treat, we didn't use the pool or the gym.
Location wise the hotel is close to main shopping street etc, which was useful as St Peter Port is very hilly.
The staff park your car for you, which was a wonderful bonus as the car park was tiny and my husband got somewhat hot and cross trying to park for himself on our arrival.

I feel quite mean heading up my review like this because truly this is one of the very best hotels I've ever stayed in so - to get the negative bit over with first - we reserved a 'classic double' room and it was simply tiny. Only one chair to sit on, a squeeze for us to get into bed on either side and barely room to move for two adults in there at the same time.We were told that the dimensions of the room are on the hotel website but how many people would check that ? I must say that the lovely 'front of house' person, Andi, arranged for us to have a complimentary upgrade to a very much bigger and nicer room but the hotel was very busy and she struggled to find us another room so an upgrade can't be relied upon. As we were staying for a week we were prepared to change hotels so it wasn't a great start to the holiday.
On the positive side -the hotel is spotlessly clean and beautifully, traditionally furnished. The food is excellent -especially the breakfasts and every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful. I do have to say a special thank you to Ken who ran the brasserie with a good natured efficiency which is rarely seen even in the best hotels. The 'OGH' as it's known locally isn't inexpensive but I would certainly stay again (but I would book a bigger room ).
