Very old hotel building in very good decorative order. Rooms are very comfortable and staff are helpful. Great views out to sea as well. Very good location for the town and businesses so you typically won't need a taxi but note that if you cannot walk far or climb hills you may want to stay elsewhere as there is a reasonably steep hill to walk up to reach the hotel.

Arrived here for the staff party about 120 peoples. Staff were friendly and polite. Room was well decorated and plenty of room to move about not squashed. Food was good overall main meal was hot and the roast potatoes were crispy. Some of the starters looked small a beetroot salad had a slice of beetroot and a small piece of goats cheese teaspoon size. Dessert was good and mince pies were served warm. Very good bar service from the Lithuanian bartender who brought the wine from the bar to our table.

The OGH has been refurbished to a very high standard and in many ways gives the impression of being a very up market home, which in many ways it is.
The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
The rooms are very well appointed and spotless.
In the centre of St Peter Port an ideal location with fabulous views of the harbour.
An easy 5 minute walk to the high street and a variety of good restaurants. Le petit Bistro I thoroughly recommend. French cuisine, with French style and grace.
OGH, Well done and thank you.

We arrived at 10am and had the most amazing stay. Car parked, room upgrade, and truly spoiled, everyone felt special. The whole experience was most pleasurable and we look forward to our next visit.Being in the heart of St Peter Port it was the perfect setting for a walking weekend around the capital of Guernsey with spectacular views over the islands of Herm and Sark.

First time on Guerney and sadly it was only for two nights. The hotel was excellent, the staff, the food and our room could not be faulted. As a person who loves fruit to have eleven different types of fruit for breakfast was heaven. On the first night we ate in The Brasserie and the food was superb. The second night we ate at the sister hotel The Duke of Richmond and the food was also superb.

The staff couldn't do enough for us and made us very welcome. We will definitely be returning for another relaxing break.

We stayed here to celebrate a 50th Birthday, there was a good priced package for dinner, bed & breakfast. They made a birthday cake and were very attentive to our wishes. We had a room upgrade to a lovely King Room with fabulous views over town and harbour. Dinner in the Brasserie was good and the whole experience left us feeling well looked after.

People may get tired of reading my reviews of the OGH but I shall continue in any case. Not only is the extremely high standard of everything maintained without fail, but I never cease to enjoy and appreciate it.
I have to highlight the staff because I find them simply outstanding and that is not just because I am such a regular visitor.
It is certainly not to criticise the Island but when my visits cease, the OGH is what I will miss more than anything else.

Excellent location. Extremely attentive and helpful Staff, plus high levels of quality everywhere, (all as should be expected for this grade of establishment).
My only criticism could be of daily restricted access to Spa/gym facilities because of high usage by non-residents.

We stayed here for 1 night after a trip to Sark.
Having been a previous guest I was keen to share the experience with family travelling with us.
We upgraded our room and were given by coincidence exactly the same room as before - it felt like coming home.
As my husband said "Everything we need is here".
We didn't eat dinner at the hotel as we met up with our family who were also staying on the island. Breakfast however was superb. An excellent choice of hot and cold food was available. I particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit and excellent thick and creamy yoghurt. For hot food we chose the traditional cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, eggs benedict and ham and mushroom omelette. All delicious.
We booked afternoon tea in the lounge for 6 in the afternoon as we had enjoyed this previously and thought it would be a lovely way to finish the birthday celebrations before returning home. Sadly, this was very disappointing and we wished we'd chosen to eat dinner in the conservatory instead.
A deluxe afternoon tea consisted of sandwiches, Guernsey gache, cream tea and cakes. This was accompanied by tea or coffee. There was a menu choice of unusual teas and we all selected something different. I have no complaint with the cakes with the exception that there were a lot of them but the sandwiches were very disappointing. Lacking in imagination and content, the men of the group felt let down. For £18 per head it certainly wasn't good value. We would definitely have preferred the balance of savoury to sweet to be a little more even.
My sister and I took advantage of the spa and both enjoyed excellent full body massages. I would highly recommend this service. The treatment rooms are excellent and the staff very competent.
My brother in law used the sauna and jacuzzi but was perturbed to find that there were no towels available and no staff to ask. He had to resort to using one that was hanging up by a previous user. Most unacceptable.
Despite those negatives, we love this hotel and its location but there are other hotels champing at the bit to be as good - it will have to work hard to stay at the top!

My husband had booked a 4-night stay to celebrate my birthday. We visited Guernsey for a day on a British Isles cruise in August and we both wanted to come back as there was so much more to see.

The hotel is beautiful - elegant and traditional but with all mod cons where it counts. The gardens looked amazing, and even in this autumnal period looked colourful thanks to hundreds (?thousands) of cyclamens in all the flower beds and containers.

My husband had booked a balcony room, but which had an electrically-operated window so that you could sit out whatever the weather. The room included a very comprehensive tray of tea and coffee-making apparatus, together with biscuits (supplemented at turning-down time with more) and a small supply of fruit. Thoughtful touches included a hot water bottle and a throw. There were also extra cushions on the bed (of the kind I associate with nursing babies - kind of triangular) and a neck support cushion - which, together with the comfortable armchairs and footstool meant that settling down for a rest with a book (or for a doze) after a hard day's sightseeing was very enticing.

The bathroom was spotless and very well appointed and offered L'Occitane toiletries and numerous fluffy white towels. The blue nightlight is a good feature.

We had plenty of storage room, an ironing board and a hairdryer, as well as tv and a dvd player. My only disappointment was that I couldn't get Classic FM on the tv, which I can at home in England.

We saw into some rooms which overlooked the garden (no balcony) on our way to our room and they seemed slightly more modern but equally elegant, and I would happily stay in one of these as well.

We ate in on the first night, and the restaurant staff had been very well briefed. We sat in the bar for a drink and the waiter immediately brought us two glasses of bubbles (and a bowl of crisps) with their compliments. A lovely start to the evening.

The Brasserie Restaurant was taking part in the Tennerfest event, whereby a 3-course menu for £17.50 was offered. This was excellent, and very good value, as the restaurant a la carte prices reflect the hotel's 5-star rating. We took advantage of other restaurants in the town which were also included in the event for other evenings (Christie's and Absolute End were notable).

Breakfasts were sumptuous and beautifully cooked and served by the very friendly and professional staff. Fresh berries were available as well as the usual other fresh fruits, and I took advantage of these (with a dollop of thick Greek yoghourt) while I waited for my cooked breakfast. We never ate lunch!

Would I visit again? As the current saying goes - in a heartbeat.

This hotel really deserves to have its Five Stars. From the moment of arrival after a short, albeit up hill, walk from the Ferry Terminal to the departure 3 days later everything was first rate. The staff were very attentive and the attention to detail was first really without fault. We had booked a Classic Room, but when were shown to it by the receptionist, we decided to take an upgrade to a much bigger room. This was at a realistic cost and we did it because we wanted to have a comfortable break after a very busy summer season ourselves! The breakfast choice was wide and varied and the service was to match. The Bar was friendly and had the Rugby World Cup on TV, but the lounge was comfortable for the non-sporty types!
The Brasserie Restaurant served beautiful food, but the service could have been a bit quicker on the evening we ate there.
Overall very highly recommended - you will enjoy it.

Warm welcome on reception after a freezing walk to the hotel. I was given the key card to my room, which I found after navigating endless corridors. The room was a lot smaller than I was expecting, however it was tastefully decorating and crammed with lots of chairs and magazines, which was nice to read, however did add to claustrophobic atmosphere. The lights did not come on due to the numerous switches which had been turned off and dimmed, however a member of staff was walking down the corridor so sorted this. The bathroom seemed to be new and was absolutely spotless. There was no window, and instead a fan. Also, the blue light was a nice touch at night instead of having to switch the light and fan on, making it more peaceful. The toiletries were nice apart from the 'sugar cube' which replaced bubble bath. This was not nice and just made the water turn green, instead of a rich lather which definitely did not help after travelling. We decided to have an aperitif in the crown club, which was lovely. Very good service and hors d'ouerves and all in all very nice. When coming back from dinner, a newspaper, fresh gavottes (replacing the stale ones that were there on arrival) and more coffee, as well as a complimentary packet of sweets and a questionnaire had all been added. These were nice touches. However, when I was getting into bed, I did notice the numerous stains on the very thick wallpaper, which would make it difficult to remove and the tapping noise from the door when the air conditioning came on, however this stopped when I turned it down to a lower temperature. All in all, a nice stay, however it was not quite 5 star. This did not compare with a much smaller hotel of no rating that was much more simple, with less gadgets, but instead fresh fruit and flowers in both the bathroom and bedroom, for no extra cost as well as a much larger built in wardrobe (my wardrobe was to cupboard above the bedside tables, which was awkward to get clothes out) and bubble bath. That hotel satisfied me more than the OGH, although good, not perfect.

This our third time staying at the OGH hotel . . . and it was the best stay so far. We stayed three nights as a belated anniversary treat and the hotel treated us with a marvellous sea view room that was clean and spacious. As on other occasions, the staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. As we arrived early on a flight from London, our room wasn't ready. We had expected this, but were so pleased by the helpful responses of the reception staff who took care of our bags and parked our car, so allowing us to make the most of the day. We only ate breakfast in the hotel, as we wanted to explore other restaurants in the town. The breakfasts were good and had plenty of choice - the kippers were wonderful! The waiting staff were attentive, but not too much so . . . just right for that time in the morning!
We also visited the spa which appears to be well used by the community. Again, the gentleman on the spa reception was marvellous, showing us were to go and offering all we needed. He was so helpful. On reflection, it was refreshing to see a more 'senior' employee engaged in this role within the gym.
The hotel is not cheap, but it is worth every penny spent and we will certainly visit again.

We recently spent 3 nights at the OGH. This hotel can only be described as splendid. The rooms, furnishings, restaurants and facilities are first class as is the attention to detail and care taken in every area.
All this and superbly located just a few minutes walk from the centre of St Peter Port.
Thoroughly recommended

I guess this has to be our favourite hotel in the many that we have stayed at. The staff are simply marvellous, nothing is too much trouble for them to make you feel at home. The rooms are brilliant with every need catered for. We tend to eat in the Brasserie on our first night and this trip was no exception however, the food was so good we ate in just as much as we ate out.
We can't praise the Hotel highly enough and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

The OGH is what you would expect from a 5* hotel - excellent rooms, very good food indeed, very friendly and obliging staff. The hotel is two or three minutes walk from the harbour, which it overlooks, so it is very conveniently located for exploring the pretty town of St Peter Port. We considered the hotel prices to be very reasonable.

A good bus service operates throughout the island, and the main bus station is 5-10 minues walk from the hotel. There is also a useful Tourist Information Centre nearby.

We booked a double room with a balcony and sea view, which was delightful and had all the amenities that are required including a tea tray!

We learned however that Guernsey is very often windy, so for our next visit we will probably choose one of the rooms with an enclosed balcony.

Huge and comfortable bed, toiletries and ample towels, turn down service with chocolates or biscuits, even a note on the bed warning us of the possibility of live music that might drift up through the corridors. Lovely sauna and pool. Breakfast was excellent, however on the 2nd and 3rd morning the service was not quite as good as it might have been - waiting 20 minutes to give our order and waiting just as long for toast is not quite 5 star. BUT, the cream tea on Sunday was delightful. All in all it was a delightful 3 night stay, but if you are not a good walker be aware it is a short uphill walk from town.

Sadly we only had one night at this lovely hotel.
from the moment we arrived, we felt very welcome. The staff are friendly and very professional. They take a keen interest in you as guests and are most helpful. The hotel is in a perfect location with sea views. It is such a shame we were not spending more time there.

A short business trip to Guernsey accompanied by the missus and a stay at OGH courtesy of my clients, thank you. Have passed it before but never stayed there and found it be completely top notch. Warm, courteous, under-stated and efficient welcome.

We were offered an executive queen room, well appointed with good view of the harbour. The missus rates hotels on bathrooms - and she was completely satisfied, so I was satisfied.

Very centrally located with just a few hundred yards or so down to the port. Unfortunately, we didn't eat there (more about where we went in another review), but the restaurant looked very good indeed and we had breakfast there the next day. Very polite and helpful staff. Nothing special at breakfast, but a decent cold buffet and a good range of hot dishes; porridge, salmon scrambled eggs, full English etc.

thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and will certainly return.

Been coming to Guernsey for several years and thought we,entreat ourselves. And what a treat it was.A lovely quaint, historic building with everything on hand ,nothing too much trouble from staff that are bubbely ,intelligent and have good memories. Certainly five star but not stuffily so with lovely bars and Restuarant ,great food and spa. They upgraded our room for our stay so we were not troubled by noise from the wedding party on Saturday night that wasn't even noisy..Parked our car and remembered our names at all times. Nothing to much trouble .The manager really cares about the island as he helped organise the food festival val in town. Will defiantly go back there and highly recommend the place.

In Guernsey for a short business truip and had the Old Government House Hotel recommended. Unfortunate that the viisit was so short -- this is an attractive hotel, in a quiet street and a short walking distance from the sea front, and offices for meetings. Very comfortable and well managed, with excellent facilities. To be returned to ...

I spent a night here on business and found the hotel to be great. The building is steeped in history, there are plenty of excellent dining options, and the gym downstairs is very good.

The only downside, which is largely uncontrollable by management, is that the rooms are extremely small.

I will definitely stay again, although I would upgrade my room to something larger!

Excellent hotel in keeping with its 5 star rating. Service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great views from the rooms (pics enclosed). Breakfast was very good. In a central location about 10 minutes walk to the promenade and a couple of minutes to shops, pubs and restaurants. Recommended.
