Nothing is too much trouble for the staff here! We are celebrating our 30th anniversary today and every small detail to ensure our enjoyment has been thought of by the staff here - Thank You DOR
We have been made to feel very important.

After a couple of days on the island staying at other hotels and experiencing a combo of rude to OK service, walking through the doors of the Duke of Richmond to be greeted by the most smartly-dressed staff I think I've ever seen (outside of the Dorchester perhaps), with smiles, courtesy and deep professionalism was almost overwhelming (I wanted to hug them).

I had a frazzled 6-year-old with me and we'd just come from the beach and looked a bit scruffy, but no one batted an eyelid – in fact one of the female staff did what I have never encountered at a hotel before – she sat down with him while I checked in, spoke to him, engaged him, asked him some questions and gave him a disposable camera to take pictures, which never left his side during our all-too-brief stay. They print them and send them to you, apparently. Goodness what they'll find!

Everything about this hotel surprises and delights – our room was outstanding – most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, a bathroom stuffed with products and huge fluffy towels. There is a delightful terrace for drinks and meals which leads out from the restaurant and down to a small, heated swimming pool. The decor is eclectic to say the least (lots of leopard print), but works in a fun way.

We ate in the Leopard Room restaurant that evening, and not only did they print out a special kid's menu for my son, they brought him a bowl of cherry tomatoes b/c he's not keen on big beef tomatoes. I had lemon sole, and again it was possibly the best I've ever tasted.

There really aren't enough superlatives for this place – it's the whole deal, but for me, always, the service is the most important – and this is really superb, old-school service – on a par with Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton, but with a British touch.

As many other reviewers have said: Outstanding. I'd be back here in a heartbeat.

The Duke of Richmond is the sister hotel to Old Government House, and it shows.

This hotel is the way a 4 star used to be, not quite a 5 star, but always striving to offer a 5 star service.

We upgraded to a superior room with a balcony and it was worth it. The room was large and comfortable with a stunning view.

From the moment the Concierge welcomes you in the car park, you are made to feel welcome and valued.

It's an easy walk down into St Peter Port, but not so easy walking back up. St Peter Port is built on a hill, but there's plenty of car parking in town.

The restaurant is top quality, especially the daily specials.

This hotel is well worth a trip.

This was a memorable and outstanding stay for a variety of reasons. It doesn't look much from the outside, but it is a truly wonderful hotel. It may not have the swish of its sister the OGH, but it has a charm and uniqueness of its own. From the moment we walked in the door the staff, without exception, were the best I have come across in any hotel. Helpful, sincere, charming, friendly, knowledgable, professional (it is not often a waiter knows to put a coffee cup down with the handle in just the right place) - and happy "to go the extra mile". I cannot praise them highly enough. We had a sea view room on the 1st floor, we had a very late booking so not the greatest view but a view all the same. The rooms are quiet, the beds comfy, there is water, tea, coffee etc but surprisingly no fridge.
It is hard to find anything to quibble over; the shower was over the bath and the shower head was too low because of the height of the room. Not really an issue is it!
We got engaged when we were in Guernsey and the hotel put a "congratulations" plate of patisserie in our room, a lovely and touching surprise.
One day we had afternoon tea - superb, absolutely superb. And lots of it, don't order it without an appetite - but if you ask they do give you a red box to take away what you can't eat.
What a great hotel.

The exterior of the building doesn’t look promising, the interior is totally at odds with the outside ~ again, don’t be put off by the odd eclectic mix of glass, fur, silk and general Boho as it really works, once you get your head around it. The hotel is almost a Heath Robinson experience in real life which just adds to its character (Holiday Inn: every room looks the same it isn’t). We have often read ‘nothing could be too much trouble’ but for the first time for us this statement couldn’t be more true. The hotel is quirky and our room 202 fabulous but the real strength of this hotel is its staff. We have to give special praise to Olga a petite, quietly spoken girl who has her finger on the restaurant pulse so firmly that she is almost omnipresent ~ awesome. Having said that, every single member of staff was upbeat, friendly and professional, above and beyond. The food is wonderful, generous and freshly prepared, full marks. One our best hotels ever.

My husband and I stayed here over the last weekend, the hotel is beautiful and only a short walk from St. Peter Port. Staff are fantastic and so welcoming, when we checked in there was a lovely man on reception called Fiachra, he was so kind and friendly and really made our visit extra special, we had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant for the whole stay and I can't recommend it enough stunning food and excellent service! Will defiantly return for another weekend!

This is our sixth consecutive year we have stayed at this hotel, that should speak for itself. Once again the weather was very kind to us this and the hotel is what brings us back year after year. This year it coincided with our Golden Wedding anniversary. We had a surprise cake, card and picture delivered to our room from the staff on the day which was lovely.

Our room was excellent as was our dining experience. We ate in every night (7) and not once could we find any fault. Olga and her staff do a wonderful job . It surprises me that more guests do not eat in the hotel, they are missing a treat.
Breakfast was excellent too with plenty choice.

All staff are very friendly Aaron the concierge as a local man is very informative.

Hopefully we will be back in 2017.

My time at Duke of Richmond in Guernsey was great.  From the moment I arrival till the time I left. Communications from the Reception staff was excellent.  Both Aron and Sophie provided excellent service towards my partner and myself.  There other staff I met during my stay both at the front desk and restaurant, we were well informed and the care was really show. So thanks  for making my stay at your establishment a memorable one.

This has to be the best hotel we have ever stayed in. Beautifully appointed rooms fantastic food and wonderful staff. We stayed for a short break with our little doggy and we treated like royalty as well. Cannot fault the attention to detail and this is a real hidden gem in Guernsey. Can't wait to go back and neither can our doggy!!

We stayed 3 days for an Anniversary in July. The king, sea view room was large and beautifully furnished with a small balcony. The bathroom although conventionally laid out with shower over bath worked brilliantly - purple lighting perhaps not to everyone's taste?
All the hotel information stresses the quality and friendliness of the hotel and its staff. This does of course set them up to fail on occasions eg flowers delivered to the room but not in water /vase or any alternative - this had to be requested twice before they revived! Tea arrived on several occasions without milk and again had to be requested.
Breakfast out side on the terrace was a special treat, the food was also excellent - otherwise we did not eat in the hotel. We had stayed at this hotel previously, so the location was known to us ie on the edge of town and up a steep hill and might be an issue for some. The views however are beautiful!

My wife and I travelled to Guernsey for our daughters wedding. It was our first time in the Channel Islands, and boy, did we enjoy it. The hotel organised a taxi from (and back to) the airport for us, which is approximately 20 minutes away. We arrived at the hotel, and from that point to our departure 5 days later, the staff couldn't have been more attentive or helpful, from the concierge staff to the housekeepers. The majority of the staff are probably in their early twenties and there are many nationalities working front of house with great English. The room we stayed in (117) was immaculate, it was so clean, we've been disappointed with the general cleanliness of previous hotels we stayed in, but not the Duke of Richmond. This room also has a large south facing balcony ideal for sunbathing and outside drinks. The restaurant serves really nice, fresh and tasty food, again we couldn't fault the service, the staff or the hygiene of the restaurant. We enjoyed our stay there so much that before it was time to pack and leave, we had already decided to return. This simply is the most immaculate hotel that we have ever stayed in and the best professional service that we have ever received.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and as it was a 3 for 2 offer it was exceptional value. The room was excellent considering it wasn't classed as a suite but still had a small sofa and arm chairs. The real bonus with the hotel though was the dinning room and bar staff. Super smooth, super efficient, helpful but not "in your face". Pretty much perfect for our requirements.

My husband and I recently returned to the hotel for a second time. We live on the island of Jersey and often pop across to Guernsey on our boat. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. There are lots of little touches that make the difference...juice freely available at Reception, bottles of water and towels by the entrance for those going for a jog or walk, jars of sweeties by the restaurant. Room was comfortable and the air conditioning was good to have during the heatwave.

The service from all staff was excellent. food good the booze was a bit pricey.
Room excellent. Very quiet due to padded walls which was an interesting feature. View
across bay to Sark excellent. the Beds were superb so much so we tried to buy the set on return but found it was wholesale only. Location on the map was close to the prom. but is a £7.50 taxi ride back. Due to hills and one way systems. It is about 20 Mins downhill to town. Not a hotel for the unfit!!

We stayed for 4 nights in this excellent hotel. Our room, on the third floor, overlooking the harbor of St. Peter Port was terrific. A comfortable bed, spacious room and a view. The staff were always pleasant and helpful and the bar staff and Maitre De in the dining room a warm and professional leader of a great team. The food in the dining room is first class and we ate breakfast and dinner here, happily, every day. The location is a short, downhill walk, into the main part of town and the busy port. Walking around St.Peter Port is easy but it's hilly so one way is a breeze and the other more of a work out. We recommend this excellent hotel to you all.

This hotel never fails to impress me with their level of customer care and service. I stay here on a regular basis for business and nothing is ever too much trouble from the moment I arrive through to departure.

The hotel is within walking distance of St Peter Port, has undergone a transformation in recent years under new ownership and a huge investment in the hotel. The bedrooms vary in size and shape due to this being a relatively old building in fact several adjoining buildings which gives it character but in a very positive way. The rooms and bathrooms are all are immaculate and furnished to a very high standard with everything that you could need and more. Some rooms have distant sea views which is nice.

A good restaurant, bar and outside area.

A great hotel to return to with special mention of Aaron on reception/front desk who always has a smile and a positive outlook on everything.

We were invited to a function with over 50 guests. Ambiance is very good and restaurant to a high standard. The food was very good and the service likewise.Wines and drinks were served efficiently by polite and courteous staff.
We would be more than happy to return to this hotel restaurant.

The staff are a credit to the hotel, very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is nice, although the rooms are pretty small. Other than that a great option when staying in Guernsey close to St Peter Port.

Another trip to wonderful Guernsey. We tried a different hotel from the Red Carnation group and were not disappointed. Lovely room with great views, very good food but the staff are the exceptional feature. Always and to a person charming, attentive, helpful and efficient. We have stayed at Old Government House on previous occasions (in the same group and also in St Peter Port) and mow will be faced with a difficult choice on future visits as they are both so good.

Just returned from a five day break. Tha standards in the hotel were excellent. Our room was large, well equipped, loved the heated bathroom floor!
We were most impressed by the quality of all the staff, without exception, they made us feel the most important customers in the hotel. Cannot wait to return.

Just back from a 5 night break. Very nice hotel with exceptionally helpful staff. It's situation in relation to the town was a a big downside. It was a good 15 to 20 minute walk down and longer up as the hill was so steep. Don't book if you are not super fit. The pillows are awful and they need summer weight duvets. Our room was at the side of the hotel by the road and building works were being carried out on some houses in the road. St Peter Port is very nice but not much to do and in hindsight 5 nights was probably too long.

We had a large room on the top floor. Well worth the money. The bathroom was massive and lotions etc the best we have ever found in a hotel. The whole level of detail everywhere was 5*.

Staff were superb ....all of them, but Olga in the restaurant was outstanding as was Arron in reception.

Dinner there was all one could hope for.

Probably the best hotel and staff we have experienced anywhere.

Wonderful hotel with great rooms and fabulous (Rm. 504) views. The room was quite tight size wise, but the bed, pillows, linen and duvet were fantastic for an excellent nights sleep. Perfectly formed bathroom with complimentary toiletries.

The staff are attentive, thoughtful and couldn't have been more helpful. The breakfast in the dining room was very good as was the afternoon tea which was quite superb. Excellent bar and terrace which is a sun trap in the afternoon's. My only criticsm would be the main course of my dinner on the Sunday evening was disappointing but the deserts were legendary and truly memorable.

All in all a fantastic short break and I can highly recommend this for couples wanting to get away from it all. Brilliant
