We stayed at this fabulous hotel as we travelled to Guernsey to celebrate my husband's birthday. The staff at this hotel are superb! Nothing is too much trouble for them. Breakfast was lovely and plenty to choose from. Our room faced the park but it was a tad on the small side. It is about a 10 minute walk to the harbour. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again at this lovely hotel.

my wife and I have just returned from a weeks break at the DOR, having stayed before you have expectations of things being as on previous visits,
we were not disappointed.
the hotel has impeccable standards from the caring staff who make you feel special, to the fantastic food all freshly prepared and served every day.
at the DOR, nothing is too much trouble to make your stay full of good memories.
I look forward to our next visit and hope it comes soon.

This is a superb hotel. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the beds are very comfortable and the plumbing all works as it should. The food in the Leopard restaurant is imaginative, well presented and delicious with a good range of 'specials' each evening, mostly from freshly caught fish. There is a good list of reasonably priced wines, though if you want to push the boat out there are several top-end wines from which to choose. At breakfast, you are spoilt for choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and are wondering when we can return.

Just got back from a week in this lovely hotel. From day one we felt welcomed, staff attentive but not intrusive, food and restaurant service excellent. Our room was comfortable and of excellent quality. We had a view of the terrace and pool area, unfortunately the weather was nit good enough to spend much time there. All though it wasn't the easiest place to find due to the confusing one way system, its not to far from the seafront to walk, albeit a bit steep.Would definitely visit this hotel again

The Duke of Richmond is a Red Carnation Hotel which we have previously found to be a group for whom customer service is key. We were not disappointed with the DoR as from the point of arrival to departure the service was excellent. Rooms, although small are well appointed and our room had a dual aspect being on the fourth floor and overlooking the locale in one direction and across to the sea in the other. Bedding and towels all bear the embroidered monogram of the hotel which is a nice touch. Our walls were finished in striped padded fabric rather than wallpaper and the drapes were lined and filled giving the room an overall sumptuous feel. Separate w/c and bathroom with good shower over the bath. Rooms spotless and everything is well maintained. Tea/coffee/ making and biscuits provided daily in room. Breakfast is perfect. A good choice of cereals, fresh fruit -both whole fruits and fresh fruit salad/sliced fruits, yogurt and pastries and a very good choice of cooked breakfast, including omelette of your choice, smoked haddock, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon as well as a very comprehensive full English. All freshly cooked and well presented. Restaurant staff are friendly and efficient and the Restaurant Manager, Olga is clearly very experienced and in control and very keen to ensure guest satisfaction, whilst being friendly and accommodating. We stayed for four nights and every morning we were greeted well. Reception staff too were very helpful - one of whom even went out in the rain to try and find us a convenient parking space. For the size of hotel, only having allocated parking for 6 vehicles can be a bit of a problem, but generally we were able to find something relatively close-by. DoR is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination but the service and facilities are very good which I guess is what you pay for. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay at a lovely hotel. Well done Red Carnation Hotels, another tick on our list.

What an amazing idiosyncratic decor - the reception area is a vision in black and white, and so was our bedroom, complete with padded fabric walls. Its not often we experienced travellers feel the need to photo our bedroom, but my wife did here. We don't know if all the rooms were like our room 305, but it was most interesting.

The bed was comfortable and all the appointments one would expect of a 4 star hotel, although the bathroom was on the small side. But there were soft blue lights on all the time in the bathroom which looked great and helps for during the night trips! Very stylish.

The dining room was The Leopard Room, black and white floors but leopard motifs everywhere, and a life-size statue of one at the entrance. Lovely big windows look out onto the huge terrace above the outdoor swimming pool.

We enjoyed our dinner, including the non-alcoholic cocktail they made up for me. Breakfast was self serve cold, or order hot, and a reasonable variety.

Staff were obviously well trained, very helpful and sympathetic, especially as we were a bit frazzled when we arrived, having failed to leave Guernsey as the airport was closed all day due to fog, and our travel company arranged for us to stay here.

It was s a steep walk down into the town next morning but a fit person could do it in ten minutes - we took longer and got a taxi back. There is a nice park opposite to sit out in if required. There is a sister 5 star hotel more in the centre of the town, and a small selection of up-market hotels in this small chain around the world.

We stayed for 6 nights, had a luxurious room, immaculately clean and well serviced. Lots of choice for breakfast and dinner. All the staff were very welcoming and went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Very close to town, although we found the walk up the hill back to the hotel a bit challenging! Would definitely stay again.

73 rooms but only 5 car park spaces. The rest have to find a space on the road - limited - and use a cardboard dashboard 'clock' to show time of arrival. All free but time limited 8am - 6pm so if you park afre 6pm you have anytthing from half hour to 10hrs after 8am depending on the road. Our room was ok but felt a bit small as the two armchairs took up a fair bit of room. The front desk staff were excellent - mention here for Aaron ( hope that's spelt right). Breakfast was very good. Evening meals - we had two - were ok but nothing spectacular. The biggest problem was getting served. They had two large groups on the first night but on the second there was no excuse and on that night no-one seemed to be in charge.

We spent the last 7 days at this hotel, so let's start when we arrived:-

Parking at the hotel:- we did not have a problem as we were able to park outside the on the roadway, the hotel employees then went out each day and changed the clock which you have to have for parking on Guernsey so did not move my car at all for the full 7 days.

Check in:- We met Aaron who was very effecient and very knowledgeable a credit to the hotel gave us lots of information.

Room:- Although we booked a sea view room when we got there we had been up graded to a different room with no sea view but the room was so nice it did not matter.

Food:- The resteraunt food was lovely although we didn't eat there every night.

Staff:- As I said above Aaron was great always remembered your name, but also the bar staff and others were excellent.

Negatives:- only one the fire/smoke alarm went off twice in a mater of 3/4 days first time was a little concerning, but by the second time when it went off we were asleep quite scary, but both times was due to to people not shutting the bathroom door when using the shower, when we spoke to the receptionist she said they have known about this for the last year, all they need to do is put a notice on the bathroom door.

would we stay here again most definitely loverly relaxing week

Attending a function last night for approx 50 people I would say the staff were organised and attentive. Due to them I would say the hotel is probably worth a stay.

When reviewing food I do try to appreciate providing that many meals "at once" is not an easy task. I wasn't that impressed Heinz Tomato soup for starters was disappointing not that I don't like it but..
On our table the price of the same bottle of wine changed which is um "imaginative"?

We spent 5 days at this pleasant hotel. Staff very welcoming, efficient and helpful. Comfortable well appointed room though not over spacious. We dined twice in the very good restaurant. Hotel situated about 15 minute walk up hill from St Peter Port centre. Good base for exploring Guernsey.

We stayed here 17-19 June. A relaxing luxurious hotel I would highly recommend.

Decor is funky and high quality. I love animal print so the reading area with its striking zebra print and the bar/restaurant with its leopard design was just up my street.

Food is outstanding. Good choice and high quality.

Beautiful outside terrace which was a sun trap.

The room was luxurious with a huge, bigger than super king bed. And the views from the huge window wonderful to wake up to.

All the staff were friendly and went the extra mile.

What I love about this hotel, apart from all of the above, is the attention to detail. In the rooms there is stationery in the dressing table drawer - not just the usual paper and pens, but a stapler, rubber etc. Well thought out. In the bathroom there is a soft blue lighting option making a trip to the loo easy during the night. And outside of the restaurant on the landing jars of traditional sweets where you just help yourself. And for us ladies a magnifying mirror for doing make up! There is also a hairdryer (not the best I've used but perfectly adequate). Also an iron and full sized ironing board too. Beautiful fluffy dressing gowns and slippers are provided, luxurious white soft and fluffy towels too. And a bed turn down service available with sweet treats left on the pillow.

This was a belated anniversary visit that we'd had to postpone twice. But the hotel still remembered and there was a bottle of champagne my partner had arranged waiting for us on arrival with canapés and the added touch of an anniversary card from the hotel.

If you are looking for a bit of luxury for a special occasion of just a weekend away, I would thoroughly recommend this gorgeous hotel.

I have stayed at this hotel on five occasions and not been disappointed once. It is located on a hill about 15 minutes walk from St Peter Port, (the walk back is very steep).
The staff are extremely helpful and always smiling. The bar and outside terrace are very good for relaxing and eating and drinking. we have had a different room on each occasion and they have all been extremely well maintained and clean.

Just spent a night at this great hotel. A little pricey but worth it for this standard of hotel. It was £148 a night, including an amazing breakfast. There was all the usual breakfast items plus a great menu including the full English breakfast plus kippers plus omelette plus haddock plus plus plus. This was not 'or' it was anything you wanted. Delicious freshly squeezed orange juice. An excellent breakfast.

On arrival in the hotel, we were told to help ourselves to lemon juice in a large dispenser in the foyer, so lovely and refreshing and just what I needed after the ferry ride.

Our bedroom was just beautiful, with monogrammed pillows and towels, blue and white padded walls. The bathroom was small but as my husband said, the best quality toilet paper we've ever had at any accommodation anywhere. These things are important.

The staff were all friendly, helpful and pleasant from the staff on the reception desk, to the staff who stored our luggage, to the staff in the dining room.

All in all a really great stay. We would definitely stay again if we ever returned to Guernsey.

Just returned from our 3rd stay at The Duke of Richmond and it was wonderful as ever.
The decor is amazing - never seen such a display of elaborate animal print furnishings as those throughout the foyer and restaurant.
Have stayed in 3 different rooms now and each has been very individually decorated and spotlessly clean. Again very elaborate - nothing dull here!
The attention to detail is fantastic. The staff are supremely professional. Whilst I've never dined in the restaurant in the evening the breakfast menu is extensive and nothing too much trouble.

Location just above St Peters Port is great, its just a short walk down/up. The hotel has an old school feel to it with American art, statues from the Raj and a black and white flooring that makes me think of Art Deco. Lots of stairs up and down to get to the rooms and also in the rooms so maybe not the most wheelchair friendly. Breakfast was very good £16 if not negotiated in the cost. A very quiet and comfortable night.

Our room was petite with a 'city view' of what we guessed was a hostel? The room was wonderfully decorated and in a bigger room would have been beautiful but in our room the overall feeling was of clutter. We had no room to unpack our own belongings so needed to leave the majority of our belongings inside our suitcase.
The location was also a little disappointing - a bit further away from St Peter Port than we had believed when booking.
However, there were highlights. The pool (heated) was fabulous, the breakfast was terrific and the staff were stars. Our female waitperson at breakfast time was pleasant, efficient and attentive and at reception Sofia and Gaelet were very helpful and great fun.

I have just returned from a wonderful stay here, in order to visit family and do some family history research. St Peter Port is a hilly area- be warned! The Priaulx is right next door, so perfect for me.
The hotel was delightful, the staff extremely helpful , and the food very good. The bed was exceptionally comfortable with wonderful bed linen . Room and bathroom perfect (313). Hot water. Small heated outside pool. Better to change in bedroom and then go down ,as the changing area is very small. Free apples, water and sweets on tap, but don't expect anything in the mini bar!
Would I return? Yes- tomorrow!

We were very pleased with all aspects of our recent stay in Guernsey. The room was really nice, even had a choice of pillows, breakfast choices excellent and evening dinner very good.
All staff we dealt with were polite and extremely helpful.
Will certainly stay here again when we next visit.

We were a little dubious of what to expect when we arrived as the room we had booked wasn't available, we had a refund. However we found it to be ok. even without the balcony & there was a side view of the sea!. The room was very large, also the bathroom & very comfortable. We were very warm at night, sleeping was easier with the windows opened & the heavy curtains drawn back.

called in for drinks and sat at bar where staff came to get drink orders but they seemed to be constantly bickering and disagreeing with the main barman and each other which was very unprofessional in front of customers

From check in to check out this hotel was of the highest standard. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them.

The room was clean and comfortable with a high standard of decoration. The Queen size bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spotless and there was a room safe.

It was my birthday on the first day of our three night stay, while we were settling in the staff brought up a birthday card and some nice nibbles, a very nice touch.

Breakfast was very good a great selection, with something for everyone, fruit and yoghurt followed by two poached eggs on toast for me. I did give in one morning to the pancakes, bacon and maple syrup one morning.

We ate in the restaurant on one evening and were very pleased with standard of food, I had a special of crabcakes to start followed by Sea Bass both were excellent.

We were lucky enough to have some sunny weather and spent an afternoon by the outdoor heated pool, the pool was good and warm so even though it was not the warmest of days the pool was still very pleasant.

A definite return visit is on our agenda for the next time we visit Guernsey, we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting St. Peter Port.

Our classic double room was comfortable, with nice bed linen and most of the facilities you could need. The bathroom was nice, but small so there was no where to put your toiletries. I thought the room decor rather odd, with mirrored furniture, a plastic chandelier and bric-a-brac old pictures. For me it just didn't hang together. The leopard bar, whilst quirky, seemed to be hunting based, so I guess the Duke of Richmond (I presume that was him pictured with the large gun) wouldn't exactly be a modern day hero so in my view this theme deserves a bit of rethink. But if you like a blingtastic colonial feel it could be up your street

The food however was great. The breakfast and evening meals were both good quality. We got letters both evenings suggesting we didn't turn up for breakfast in the last hour of service as it would be busy. To my mind, if your customers are voting with their feet that they want a later breakfast then, like many other hotels, why not extend the breakfast hours. However, in the end it was all fine....we ate at different times depending on our itinerary and there was no crisis....phew...

I was disappointed with the admin side of service though. Response to email before we turned up was a bit mixed, when we turned up they couldn't find our reservation until I rummaged in my handbag to find the reservation number. When we paid the bill, they had to be reminded we had a £50 credit off our food. Not the smoothness I would expect.

Final tips; if you are flying in consider whether flexible or advanced rate suits you best as they are hardline in their application (we were hit by the regular fog that hits the island) and the taxi we picked up at the airport (meter price of less than £12) seemed much cheaper than what they had quoted for the one they originally booked for us.
