Had an absolutely amazing surprise 40th birthday break in Guernsey. This hotel may be 4* but the service is 5*. Delicious food, cocktails lunch and a breakfast of kings. No request too small or too big. Welcomed with a glass of fizz that set a very high standard. Well and truly lived up to for the whole stay. Thank you to all the staff involved. It really was amazing. Thank you.

We visited the duke of Richmond hotel Valentine's weekend, The hotel had been closed for a refit and the first day it opened we happened to stay . Unfortunately the heating was not working in the rooms and it was freezing. The hotel reception staff were very apologetic and I guess it was something that couldn't be helped. In the end the heating was fixed.

Breakfast was good and if you get the right seats you can see over the bay. We also had one of the afternoon teas that came with sandwiches and cake which was very nice. Also there is a little veranda that you can sit out on but unfortunately the weather wasn't very nice so we didn't get a chance.

I ordered room service but because I was slightly late had to go down to the restaurant and pay for the food which kind of defeats the object of ordering room service. I asked if cheese could be added to something I'd ordered and they said they could but it arrived with out the cheese.

The room was clean and had all the bits you would expect from an above average hotel.

the hotel was decorated in a kind of 1920s style theme which I liked.

The food is meant to be very good in the restaurant and it was fully booked so that is normally a good sign. Unfortunately because of this we didn't get to try out the dinner menu.

Altogether a good stay, just unfortunate that the heating wasn't working and the room service didn't quite go to plan otherwise I would of given a 5. I would stay again.

This hotel is a beautiful building but its the staff that really make it special. Every one was not only well trained but friendly and helpful too. We ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was delicious. I have to recommend the cocktails - really special, and I know my cocktails!

Do you need a short break for a few days with a free night thrown in? Highly recommend a deal to Guernsey for a quick unwind and relaxing few days. Only surprise was its old tradition of being closed on a sunday so if you want a few souvenirs to take home this is not the day to shop.
We stayed in the Duke of Richmond Hotel and were thoroughly spoiled. It is set near the back of St Peter Port so does require a bit of leg work to get to from the centre up a few steep roads. There is a route through the well attended Candie gardens which offers plenty of seats to rest and admire the views and flower beds
Travelled with car from Poole on the Condor ferry and couldn't fault it. Arrived early there and back
The island offers great walks, beaches and coves wherever you go
Took a trip to Hern on a short ferry ride which offered more lovely walks and a fabulous beach on the far side
All in all a good place to be for a quick unwind and recharge

This was a superb hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. From the friendly greeting from Lorna on reception to all the wait staff and indeed anyone we met in the hotel. The training of the wait staff in the breakfast room was excellent and we felt like an honoured guest. It was my birthday whilst visiting and the hotel had arranged an 'birthday plate' of fruits, chocolate dipped strawberries etc but what was more, a birthday card signed by all the staff. The hotel is superbly appointed and great for a short walk downhill to the town - you may want to get a taxi back! Thoroughly recommend it,

We had an excellent stay here at Easter 2016. The hotel was beautifully decorated, all the staff we had dealings with at reception, at breakfast and in the bar were all very friendly and professional and in particular Aaron, our Easter Bunny went beyond the call of duty to help us, when our ferry was cancelled and we had to book a flight and have a very early breakfast, which arrived in our room promptly and with a big smile, even at 6.00am! We also had some dealings with Ben on reception, who was also very helpful and friendly.
Our room (409) was sumptuous and far exceeded our expectations. The selection at breakfast was the best I had ever seen just couldn't decide between all the yummy food on offer.
All in all a wonderful stay and will be looking at other hotels in the chain and hope they are up to the same standards.

The Staff at this hotel have received some excellent training, they are extremely professional whilst remaining very friendly and approachable. Nothing appears too much trouble for them. All the facilities at the hotel are first class. If you are visiting Guernsey I would recommend you stay at The Duke of Richmond.

One of the best hotels i have ever stayed at, it made the holiday. I think it must have been refurbished recently as everything looked so clean and new. It was clearly designed by someone who knows how to create a theme hotel well. The bed was huge, the room was tastfully decorated with material on the walls not paper,, kind of art deco theme throughout. We had the room at the end of a corridor on the top floor and heard no people noise at all (room 409). The food in the restaurant was first class and the breakfast on offer was more than i could fill myself with. Every single member of staff in every dept was first class too, nothing was to much trouble and they even offered more things than we asked for. I wouldnt want to single any if them out but 2 of them especially were very helpful, arron and ben on front desk. Highly recomended hotel.

to start i have to say i do not think i have stayed anywhere with such chatty friendly yet professional staff, felt at home from the moment i got there and nothing would be to much trouble.
i am not going to name staff as they were all awesome be it reception, bar or restaurant.
rooms are not massive but beautifully presented, selection in the bar was great also the wine list and the food in the restaurant wonderful especially the lemon curd with raspberry and raddish icecream sublime.
i do not think i would even consider staying somewhere else if in Guernsey again so special is this place.

On arrival there was an issue with my booking (not the hotel's fault) but the staff were very patient and helpful and they sorted everything out whilst I had a drink at the bar.

When I got to my room the bathroom lights didn't work and as a way of apologising for all the hassle they gave me a complimentary upgrade to a huge room.

Breakfast is fantastic and the staff can't do enough for you. Same in the bar and restaurant in the evening.

I look forward to my stays in this hotel.

My husband and I were there recently for a short break. Having never visited Guersey before, we thought a short break would be enough to decide if we need to return for a longer visit. We HAVE to go back, if only to stay at the hotel again!

I can't praise the staff enough. As we arrived and keen to get out to see what Guernsey had to offer.Aaron( one of the front of house staff) suggested we get the 91/92 bus around the island. That was the perfect start. He got us some bus timetables, maps and info which was extremely useful.

The room could have been bigger, but the bed was so comfortable and the room so quiet, that I really couldn't complain.

We ate in the restaurant and again the service was top notch.

We found the walk down to the town centre very useful to walk off the calories consumed. We are both in our 60s and fairly fit, so the hills did not bother us too much. You just have to take your time.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and we will be returning.

I stayed at this hotel for one evening. I arrived fairly late as my flight was delayed so immediately after check-in they called the restaurant to make sure I could get some food. I opted for room service which came quickly and the food was hot and very good. The room was very nice and the staff were all very friendly.

My wife organised afternoon tea for my birthday, but disappointingly the scones were cold and stale and some of the treats were rather odd. Sandwiches were good. A friend who had eaten here a few weeks prior said their scones were warm and fresh but had eaten at an earlier time. This is supposed to be a 4star + hotel and so really should do better. When my wife said to the waitress the scones were stale, she just shrugged her shoulders and showed little interest.

Arrived at the hotel mid morning - very warm and friendly reception and the rooms were ready. Lovely room, sea view, staff were excellent with helpful advice through out our stay. Breakfast was great with good attentive service. Evening meal was also excellent. Also had dinner in the Old Government House, they opened the Curry room especially for the 4 of us. Generally the staff could not have been more helpful.

We travelled as on a Secret Escapes package which turned out to be a great deal. Although some visitor attractions were not open (too early in the season) we found more than enough to do and travelled on the excellent island bus service.

The hotel was a bit of a climb up from the front but walking through the shops and taking our time it was not really a problem. Parking might be an issue if you had a car although the hotel does have some reserved parking.

Overall lovely stay - thanks DOR.

This hotel has its own suit of armour in the lobby!

My stay here was only 1 night but the room was stunning, it had a sofa and a chandelier! The bed almost needed a step ladder and it was about the most comfy thing ever.
On booking the hotel asks if you want feather or foam pillows - feather is ideal.
The tv was huge and the remote was in a fresh plastic wrapper.
Dinner in the resturant was one of the best I've eaten, as was the breakfast.
I want to return and really explore this place a bit more.

We arrived to a lovely welcome and from that moment the staff gave 110%. We have stayed in many hotels but this one went further. A good 4* with the extra small touches which we have never known other 4* hotels to give. Yes, there was the normal sweetie jars but the freshly made hot chocolate with extra sundries to help yourself along with questions of "can we get you anything extra to make you more comfortable?" Just made the stay an absolute pleasure. The whole dining experience was good. Definitely would return.

I reached Guernsey very early for work and the hotel was very happy to have the room ready for me. They also arranged for a taxi to take me to my office.
Since I was staying longer, the hotel upgraded my room, which included one complimentary glass of wine every evening. Just what I needed after a long day at work. Customer delight!
Rooms are very comfortable and tastefully done. Location of the hotel is very central and walking distance from the town and port.
Lastly, the staff, extremely polite and professional.
Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I can honestly say I get the best service here in the whole world.
I stay in a lot of hotels but for the staff at the duke nothing is to much trouble.

The hotel is a standard nice 4* but the staff make it so much more.

Completely recommend for business and pleasure :-)

This was a return visit to the hotel. i like the individual, quirky boutique decor presentation which continues all the way from the reception, lounge and bar through to the bedrooms. I took advantage of a promotional offer at the hotel which included an upgrade to a junior suite and evening dinner. The room was very nice, spacious with classic furnishings. The bathroom is also spacious and modern with a good shower, bath robes included. I had afternoon tea and evening dinner both were very good, The atmosphere in the conservatory, dining room and bar are all relaxed and the staff were very attentive and friendly which made they stay more enjoyable.
The hotel is also well located for a walk into the town and the harbour, up hill on the return though!

A combination of a slight error on the hotel's part and the fact that it was our Golden Wedding meant that the excellent staff not only did everything to make our stay delightful ...a decorated plate of goodies in our room with card signed by staff, a free bottle of wine, a fantastic afternoon tea (fFortnum and Masons eat your heart out) -but did it all with a smile. Despite the hill walk, at 75 and 78 we found it very easy to reach the port and other sites of interest.

From the minute we arrived we were treated with a 5 star service. The room was upgraded and the decor was contemporary and 'funky' but plush. All ammenaties were catered for and the bed and bedding were the best I've ever encountered in a hotel. The staff go out of there way to be polite and give an amazing service. The breakfasts are top rate and the evening meals varied and great quality. My partners 50th birthday did not go unnoticed as a bespoke cake was delivered to the room as a special treat.

These guys know how to look after their guests and made are stay in Guernsey a special event. I wouldn't stay anywhere else after the welcome we enjoyed, a truly special hotel.
