My husband and I stayed at the Duke of Richmond to celebrate my "significant" birthday, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The hotel was superb with first class decor and furnishings. Our room was beautiful, the food excellent and the position so close to the port was ideal. However, above and beyond that, what raised this four star hotel to even greater heights was the staff; they were all - reception, restaurant, bar and chamber staff - friendly, courteous, welcoming and so helpful - nothing was too much trouble. I strongly recommend it, and we will certainly be visiting again.

We didn't stay in this hotel just had tea!

We had a room separated for our large group to cater a magnificent tea service: had champaign, lovely teas, great sandwiches, scones and pastries. Absolutely delightful!
Service was impecable at all times.

the duke of richmond maynot be the biggest hotel on the island, but to our mind its the best from it fantastic decor, great food, soft beds you can get lost in,wine is surprisingly inexpensive, then theres the staff, well not staff but new friends looking out for your every need, and not at all stuffy,It has the quality of the best and a feeling of coming home as the owners say when contacting you "its your home away from home"

Two nights in Guernsey, a good online package. Excited to stay at the DoR, since we've stayed at one other Red Carnation venue, and loved it.

Room: we hadn't gone for any upgrades, so got the smallest room size. And it is small - but beautifully decorated. There isn't any real room to put stuff out - you keep having to move things from the desk to the tiny table, to the bed-top, to the chair. But lovely linens, and spotlessly clean.

Food & drink: Cooked breakfast included. Nice quality. The buffet offering is adequate. Bar is opulent without being particularly comfy & relaxing. Service is a bit laid-back, often requiring a trip up to the bar to order, despite there being no other guests in the bar.

Car Parking: As mentioned elsewhere, having only 5 parking spaces for a hotel this size is not great. An anxious first few hours trying to keep an eye on the car park whilst nipping out to update the parking disc.

Location: it really is at the top of the town. If you are in any way unfit (er, like me), it is a VERY steep climb!

So - very pleasant stay, but not sure we'd rush back.

Just a short break. Great hotel, rooms really nice, cosy and clean. Very friendly, attentive staff. We are in the restaurant instead of going out, turned out to be a good decision. Great menu, and the food was well presented. Highly recommended.

Stayed for one night on business. Real shame it wasn't in summer, as the view out onto the terrace and the sea was great - in warm weather I would have loved a drink out there!

I didn't eat here, only used the bar - where service was very efficient.

My room was great - lovely, comfortable bed. Towels very fluffy, but also very small - didn't cover the important bits!!! Odd....

Would happily stay again.

This was my first time visiting Guernsey and it was a business visit therefore the hotel had been booked through my company. As the company books good quality hotels I was very much looking forward to my stay.

Rooms
The rooms are very clean and spacious but they are not too big. The room felt identical in size to a recent hotel I stayed in Milan (also reviewed). The room had a very comfy bed and sleep quality was good. The ensuite was (like the Milan Hotel) the star in my opinion. In particular the electric power shower, was amazing. It was a combined bath/shower therefore also felt quite spacious. All the other amenities were excellent to! There was a small TV in the room. I cant remember if the room had a wooden floor, but what was unique was the wall papering. It felt like it was fabric wallpaper, with blue masking tape outline and mirrored cabinets and chest of drawers. This is not to my taste but it didn't bother me too much, there were some chairs a wooden desk and other bits and bobs such as tea and coffee facilities. My room also had complimentary wifi.

Service
The service was excellent. It is of the standard you come to expect of a top rated hotel. All staff were courteous and were very willing to help out. I had an issue with the complementary wifi and Aaron the concierge very quickly and efficiently sorted out the problem. The check in/check out procedures were very smooth and the restaurant staff were very willing to help out with dietary requirements. Well done! Keep it up!

Breakfast
The variety for the cooked and uncooked breakfasts was excellent. There was enough to choose from hot and cold. There was a lot on offer and it was tasty too!! The cooked English breakfast as well as the omelettes were both recommendable.

Location
The location was not great as the office was on the Esplanade but the hotel was up a hill, the walk up was not great and we had an occasion where there was alot of rainfall and walking to the hotel felt quite adventurous. There are hotels closer to the office which made the location feel even more unattractive. Also as the restaurants and other areas of interest are near the Esplanade, it felt as if teh hotel was in the middle of nowhere.

Overall
Good service, good rooms and good breakfast. This is a decent hotel and provides a pleasant stay, but the location is not desirable and something that I cant ignore. The walk will definitely provide some very good exercise on a daily basis and help with all the lovely seafood that you will consume, but I think the location single handedly for me would be the reason I would opt to stay somewhere more nearer to the esplanade. I would rate this hotel a 5, however due to the location it gets a 4 from me

Lovely hotel with excellent customer service. Stayed here on a short break, restaurant food was good and breakfast very nice. Extremely comfy bed and pillows. Lovely room, contemporary styling. I would stay here again no problem.

Everything you would expect from a 4 star hotel. We were upgraded to a smarter room. Clean crisp bed linen, fluffy towels, refurbished within last few years. Restaurant is good. Breakfast is good with good coffee! The WIFI is excellent. The staff are as friendly and as good natured a bunch as I have come across for a long time. I would highly recommend the hotel. Be careful getting out of the shower in the bath - slipping is easy!

4 nights on business at the warm and comfy Duke of Richmond.

The staff were very friendly and check in a breeze. The breakfast is great; the English Breakfast a bit so so but all else is nice and tasty.

The room was very cosy on the 4th floor with nice bed and nice linen. The bathroom was on the small side but with a customary not too tall installation plumber; but I did not run out of hot water so all good. Wifi was included so all good on that front.

The hotel is located at the top of Candie Park and honestly an easy walk to anywhere in town. Room had a nice view of the Victoria Tower.

Recommend this hotel and just remember to give your post cards for sending to the concierge before heading to the airport; there's no where to post them there!

I have stayed here several times on business. I find the rooms spacious and well appointed. The staff are attentive and helpful. The in-house Leopard bar and restaurant is also very good.

For me it is superior to many other hotels on the island and I am unlikely to go anywhere else.

What made the difference was the outstanding service. Everyone was there to help and to make the stay comfortable, but without being obtrusive. A real compliment to the management of the hotel. The breakfast room and buffet was very good and even though the weather wasn't fine, the area was bright and warm. Wifi was average speed (3Mb) but easy to login and use; free. The room was very comfortable, very clean and well thought out. Having the TV remote in a hygienic plastic bag was a great touch.

Lovely place to stay. The staff are so friendly and make you feel like nothing is too much trouble. The room and bathroom we had was super clean, the bedding and linen was lovely, but a mattress topper would have made the beds more comfortable (they need it)
The Bathroom was spacious, the towels great quality, but it needed shelving to put toilet bags on/ toiletries. There was only a small space around the basin, and no extractor fan/de-misting mirror. The restaurant will be reviewed separately, but the bar staff are excellent, patient, knowledgeable , the range of spirits is good, and the bar snacks are super! Would definitely return if I had the opportunity .

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights, this was a special occasion as I was celebrating my 60th Birthday, and my wife always said she would treat me (she kept her word and paid for this)!!
We had a Superior Room, with a partial Sea View, on the second floor.
The room was a good size with a settee, armchair and small table and chairs. Very comfortable large bed with excellent plush pillows! The dimmable chandelier above the bed was a nice feature.
Excellent large and modern bathroom. Shower was over bath type and fairly powerful.
Lovely fluffy towels and thick bathrobes with slippers to relax in!!
Free of charge 'turn down' service with the odd chocolate was a nice touch.
We treated ourselves (only £3.00) to full breakfast in bed, on the last morning. Brought exactly on time, and nice and hot.
We loved the decor of the Hotel, especially the bar (Leopard Bar), although a little bit quirky, it felt very relaxing.
The staff (as has been commented before) deserve the highest praise! Every member we encountered was polite, friendly, always had time for a chat, and wanted us to enjoy our stay with them. What a great team!
We hope to return again sooner rather than later, this was a very pleasant, relaxing break!

We booked the hotel through CI Travel which included 4 nights stay and flights.
The hotel was offering 4 nights for the price of three, which seems the norm for quite a few hotels at this time of the season.
The hotel is positioned inland from the harbour and was about a 10 minute was into town which was not a problem. Even walking back late at night you feel safe although a section of the road is relatively dark.
The hotel is very clean and fairly striking in décor and all the staff were very polite and took time to speak with you.
I had confirmed our room choice by email after we had booked as it started the room was a king / twin and also mentioned that it was our 20th wedding anniversary trip. Although we did not really expect a 'treat' we were not disappointed as none was provided! But its small things like this that sets some hotels apart.
We booked a king room which was smaller than expected but had ample storage drawers etc. Although the bathroom was very small (only one person at a time could be in there) it had a good electric shower over a bath and was nicely decorated / tiled. The only problem we encountered was that the air-con unit appeared to be centrally controlled so it was difficult to warm the room sufficiently and the unit kept switching itself off. This was not helped by the cleaners leaving the windows slightly open thus entering a cold room upon each days return.
The bar and restaurant, which also served breakfast, was very good and recommended.
The only other grumble was that at check-in they put a £50 / day authorisation on your credit card, just in case you run off! This seems a bit steep and unnecessary for such a hotel.
Overall though we enjoyed our stay and would return, although we would probably try the groups other hotel, The Old Government Hotel, next time we visit.

This was a very nice hotel in St. Peter Port on Guernsey Island. If you're a walker, it is within walking distance of everything you may want to do in St. Peter Port, but you will get some exercise walking up the hill to get back. We had just done a hiking trip in the pre-Alps and may not be a good judge of what others might think of the walk. I think a little exercise on vacation is a good thing. A taxi is easy to procure if you want to ride back up to the hotel.

We had intended to have a light dinner in the bar one night. Unfortunately, there wasn't a comfortable chair or seating arrangement anywhere. We were the only ones in the bar when we arrived, so we had the pick of the place. It's a designer bar, not a functional bar. We left and went to the bar at the Old Government House. Great, comfortable experience with very friendly staff and a short walk from the DOR.

We stayed at the Old Government House on a previous trip. The Duke of Richmond and Old Government House are both Red Carnation properties and both very nice, but the Old Government House had a better atmosphere and feel to it. It also had more dining options and more comfortable dining rooms, bars and a very elegant lounge.

Slightly disappointed that the hotel was a good walk into St. Peter Port ,however the exercise did us good !
Disappointed that the afternoon tea chef could only think of cucumber sandwiches as an alternative for a veggie selectiion

All the initial niggles with the room were sorted out , window not opening , toilet not flushing etc .with friendly staff, however not all staff were quite as good .

Plus side , great terrace to enjoy the afternoon sun !

Having stayed at an impressive Red Carnation hotel in London we had high hopes for the Duke of Richmond. We were not disappointed - it exuded style, comfort and quality! We decided to eat at the restaurant for two evenings of our three night stay, but we should have eaten there for all three. We could not have wished for a better selection, or quality of food. Above all, what makes this hotel shine above others is the impressive team who run it. Without exception, everyone was devoted to providing a friendly, professional and excellent service at all times. They wanted to ensure that our stay was perfect in every way, and they succeeded! A bonus was that because we were staying for three nights we were able to benefit for their '3 nights for the price of 2'. We shall return!

Good hotel for business trips even though the design differs from room to room. Rooms are reasonably sized and very clean. Breakfast is good, nice winter garden.

The hotel is situated a bit outside the city center so you have to walk uphill for some 10 minutes. There is a small food store opposite the hotel which is very convenient.

My wife and I recently booked into The Duke Of Richmond Hotel for the weekend of the 25-28 Sept 2015 to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary (40 years).
From the point of arrival we were greeted in a warm and friendly manner. The hotel stay in all aspects was second to none. A four star hotel with a five start experience. From the personal attention from the waiting staff to the head chef who dealt with my wives dietary needs in a professional and no fuss manner. My wife and I had such a great stay we will have no hesitation of booking this hotel very soon in the future.

I stayed here while on a conference in Guernsey. My accommodation was paid for so I cannot comment on price, The room was not large but it was very comfortable and quiet. The full English breakfast is recommended and will definitely set you up for the day.

Very glad we picked this hotel. The interior is nice, quirky, stylish. The staff are the best thing here - all so friendly and helpful.
We were out and about each day and returned to use the pool but had clouded over each time. But it was warm enough to swim in.
Used the restaurant on one night - a bit pricey for what you get. Room service another night and eat out the final night.
Booked a superior room with seaview - great.
Recommend Southern coastal path and day trip to Herm. Buses good and cheap with single tickets.

We stayed one night at this hotel which was enough for us. Our room was tiny (cat not provided) and the decor was interesting to say the least. You will either love or hate this hotel we came down on the side of not sure.
Positives are, comfortable bed, good breakfast.
Negative dinner very poor for a 4 star hotel more pub grub than fine dinning

This is a lovely hotel and in a very convenient location. The staff are all friendly and attentive. We paid extra for a room with sea view, Room 200, and what a beautiful view we had, straight out over the bay. Lovely clean en-suite with nice toiletries and fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers too. The queen sized bed was one of the most comfy we have ever slept in. The full English breakfast was comprehensive; 9 different items or a choice of any of them. Eggs could be poached, fried, scrambled, or boiled. Added to that options of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, kippers or a range of continental meats, cheeses etc along with the usual toasts, breads, tea or coffee. Again nothing was too much trouble for the staff and not long to wait for the food either. We only ate dinner in the restaurant once but again very slick service and excellent food. Mention must go to Oliver, Olga, Gabriella and Katherine but to be fair everyone we came across had the same high standard and professional approach to customer care.
St Peters Port is hilly and the trek up from the town to the hotel can be tiring after a long day. We had three taxis at various times and paid between £4.60 and £6.00. Well worth it. Check out is before 11.00am but as we had a late flight we could leave our cases with the concierge. So helpful. We had a day trip to Sark, £27 each return and well worth it and Herm was £12.50 return each; so beautiful and peaceful. Get a bus timetable from the terminus and travel by bus, only £1 each trip. The bus drivers are friendly and helpful too.
We stayed five nights at the Duke and in our opinion would rate it 5*, we are definitely going to return soon.

Perfect location for our 3 night break. The staff gave us 100% attention throughout our stay. Special praise to Olga and Katherine in the restaurant. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. We spent an idyllic day on Sark cycling the island, a must for anyone visiting Guernesey.
