my wife and I stayed at the Duke of Richmond for 2 nights.
Straight away the reception showed us around the Hotel and explained everything we wanted to know.
the room was spotlessly clean with an Art Deco finish recently completed with a huge bed even bigger and more comfortable than a 5 Star in the States.
all staff particularly the restaurant and bar were very attentive and polite.

We have just come back from our stay at the Duke of Richmond, and I miss it already! It is a beautiful hotel with style and grace, but also felt very homely. Our room was nice and big, and I loved the decor. It is warm and quirky, and a nice antidote to the boring modernistic style most hotels try to follow. We went in a couple of rooms at The Fregate because family members were staying there, and they weren't half as nice! Much plainer and cold looking and the furniture and beds looked cheaper. So I was very glad to go back to our hotel! Our bed in room 317 was massive and so comfy! All the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is so yummy. They have soya milk if you are vegan, and made me porridge with soya milk even though they were very busy. The hotel is great for kids too, and also pets! I read you can bring cats as well as dogs! There are sweets you can help yourself to! I had a room service salad one evening and it was so nice, you can pick exactly what you like on it. Basically, I was in heaven at this hotel, and would gladly live there if I could afford it!!

The Hotel is in front of a park in a very nice location. It seems that the hotel is the joint of few buildings and therefore some times and although the hotel is quite small, is easy to get confuse to find your room. Altogether the Hotel is in very nice condition, and the service is impecable, so i strongly recommend the Hotel, as far as i am planing to return every time i go to Gurnsey. The food and beverage department is working very well, the staff is very professional and friendly and the quality of the food is superb.

We had an excellent three night stay at the Duke of Richmond Hotel. Why.......?

Location: yes, it is at the top of a steep hill but we liked the fact it was in a quiet location, near Candie Gardens and with panoramic views. We preferred to stay out of the main town but still have easy access to the facilities. It took us about 10 minutes to walk into St Peter Port (and a bit longer to walk back!) Take the route through Candie Gardens for a scenic stroll into town.

Accommodation. We had room 117 (Herm suite) and it was simply one of the best rooms we have ever stayed in. There was plenty of space, a bath and separate shower and a huge balcony. Given the weather we had during our stay, the latter was a very welcome bonus as it was equipped with a wealth of patio furniture. The room had complementary bottles of water, biscuits, tea, coffee and chocolate; essentially all the little touches which enamour you to a hotel.

Food: breakfast was extensive and offered a wealth of cold and hot food. There was fresh fruit as well as the usual cereals, pastries, cheeses and cold meats. Coffee/tea and toast were all brought to the table, along with any cooked choices. We didn't use the hotel for lunch but had dinner there a couple of times. The food was well presented and cooked and there was adequate choice. My only minor gripe was the fact the hotel was used for hen parties and this resulted in lots of noise in the restaurant on the Saturday. I realise this is not the fault of the hotel, but consideration does need to to be given to resident guests. We celebrated our wedding anniversary the day before we arrived and the hotel had chocolates and a card delivered which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. It does, however, reflect the attention to detail which seems to be so important at the DOR.

Facilities: there are plenty of lounge areas (take your glasses to reflect the decor!) and communal areas are well kept and clean. There is even a basket with bottled water at the door, should you decide to go for a walk. The pool is a welcome bonus if the weather is warm and there are sun loungers around its perimeter.

Service: the staff were professional, but friendly, although we did encounter a couple of language barriers. Little touches, such as referring to you by name, makes the service stand out from other hotels. The staff were attentive but not obtrusive; nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

Overall, this is an excellent choice for a hotel in Guernsey and we will definitely return in the future.

Great property up the hill. Easy reaching from the downtown. Okay, more easy actually to go back, but walking up is quite exhausting for olders could be. Great restaraunts in Guernsey around. Nice room with a great sized bed and facilities. Yes, the room is small like in Paris or London, but it is okay, enjoy the panaroma views. Good breakfast but staff need to be trained a bit more for 5 deluxe.

We travelled as a party of 8 to this hotel on the 16th July for a birthday celebration (with 3 extra people arriving later over the weekend.
We ourselves, had a double room which was very clean and comfortable with lots of extras, like bathrobes, slippers, bottles of water, and iron/ironing board etc.
The room was decorated very individually and overlooked the swimming pool and terraced areas.

The public rooms were decorated superbly with lots of paintings and other artwork.
The pool was warm and clean, with towels provided, and was open from 8am allowing us to have a swim before breakfast.
The breakfast was very good. As well as a full English breakfast (which was huge) ,there were kippers, poached haddock, smoked salmon/scrambled eggs, pancakes and waffles to order; in additional to the normal breakfast buffet. Our party's dietary requirements were varied (coeliac, lactose intolerant and vegetarian) but the staff were very attentive and made all of the adjustments to the orders accordingly.

The Afternoon Tea, which we had on day 2 was so filling we didn't have room for dinner. The hotel staff provided little boxes for uneaten cakes, so that we could enjoy them later.

The staff in the hotel were fantastic; very friendly and knowledgeable - you could tell they enjoyed working there. Nothing was too much trouble - setting up the breakfast table for our large party so that we could sit together; providing plates and napkins for our birthday cake; a surprise box of cakes and cards left in the bedroom for the birthday guest.

This hotel is one of the best I have stayed in - mostly because of the staff. Their commitment to provide the best for their guests is commendable.
We will be returning next year.

We stayed on a special rate of 5 nights for the price of 4. We had some difficulty finding the hotel after the drive from the airport. But were not disappointed on arrival. We were impressed with the efficiency of the reception staff, cleanliness of the rooms, and the high standard of service in the restaurant. Our room 507 was an attic room on the top floor. The bathroom was small, with a lack of storage space for toiletries. The heated towel rail was too close to the toilet, and easy to burn your arm. Slippers, robes, face flannels and Fragonard toiletries were provided. As was some fresh fruit and 2 bottles of water on arrival. We appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities in the room, items were replenished daily. We ate in the Leopard restaurant several evenings which was a pleasant experience, but the menu could be repetitive if staying for much longer. Parking was limited at the front of the hotel.Turn right out of the front door of the hotel, walk down the hill for a spectacular view of the bay. The round the island bus 91/92 service from the Town terminus is well worth the £1 fare.Visit the lower garden in Candie gardens for lovely floral bedding displays in Summer. The fish ponds could do with some attention though.

My husband and I had a 3 night break in Guernsey choosing this 4 star hotel based on reviews. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was as advertised with a very comforable bed. On 1 day our room was not services by 2pm and on I evening the 'turn down' service did not happen. On both occassions my complaint was handled in a most courteous manner, including a hand written apology and fruit basket. It was my birthday while we were there and I received a beautiful cake and a card signed by all the staff. Everyone makes mistakes, that's life. At the Duke of Richmond management staff are customer focused and endeavour to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Nothing is too much trouble. I would certainly stay there again.

This Hotel is excellent. Our room was fantastic, the food was wonderful and the staff were so attentive. We felt totally spoilt. We were so impressed that we have already booked for 2016. This really is a true Boutique Hotel, the decor was outstanding, stunning even. We can honestly say that it was the best holiday ever.

This recently renovated hotel is a great choice if staying in St Peter Port. The lobby and bar area have been decorated superbly and the staff are very friendly. Room was a good size and although a little 'quirky' the bedroom have been decorated very well. A highlight was the excellent breakfast with quick service and a good selection. If you have meetings or dinner in town - its a good hike back up the hill. Would definitely stay here again.

Great hotel in all areas! Our room was huge, clean and comfortable and staff members were friendly, attentive and helpful. There’s a lovely pool area with warm water and plenty of guest towels and there are nice touches like sweets and board games in the reception area. The décor is quite different to the usual bland chains but it all adds to the hotel’s appeal!

Breakfast was fab – full English, omelettes/choice of eggs, smoked salmon, kippers, pastries, fresh bread, ham, cheese, cereal, fresh fruit, yoghurt - not really sure what else could be expected for breakfast?! The deluxe afternoon tea is delicious if a little too large but staff members are happy to box-up any left-over cakes!

Much of St Peter Port is on a hill so the walk back to the hotel from the seafront is sometimes steep but this has the added advantage of great views – particularly if you walk through Candie Gardens.

I’ve paid a lot more for far less in the past and really think the Duke of Richmond delivers great value for money – we’ll be back!

A friend and I went away for a long weekend, to celebrate our birthdays. I booked the hotel and have to say they were just wonderful. Every interaction I had with the hotel prior to our stay, and during, was excellent. The staff were attentive, friendly and polite. Our room was beautiful, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We had a sea view and a lovely balcony. We also booked afternoon tea for the day we arrived, and it was wonderful. Knowing we were there celebrating birthdays, the staff gave us a lovely card and a plate of extra deserts (all of our favourite treats from the afternoon tea selection!). I couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough. The breakfast each morning was delicious, and freshly cooked. The location of the hotel is up quite a steep hill (St Peter Port is essentially a big hill!), which provided beautiful views on the way up and down, and a nice bit of exercise.

I only have the slightest of criticisms; my friend found the towel rail in the bathroom to be too hot - she reached out and touched it, not realising it would be so hot, and burned her hand (very slightly). I'd be inclined to agree that it was too hot. It made the bathroom very warm indeed, which was uncomfortable during a warm period of weather. There was a lot of light spilling in underneath the door, at night, which disturbed me, a light sleeper, but I soon resolved that with a blanket at the foot of the door.

Overall, though, I'd highly recommend this hotel. Really wonderful.

If you're a fan of quirky and unusual places like me, you will love the highly recommended and established Duke of Richmond Hotel. The hotel's Africa safari theme, exquisite selection of furniture and lighting, and tastefully decorated rooms make it a wonderful place to stay during your visit to Guernsey. Staff are polite and attentive, bar has a broad selection of drinks that you can enjoy either inside or on the beautiful terraces. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of the main harbour, bars and restaurants.

We have just returned after a four day visit to this Hotel. This was our first trip to Guernsey although we have visited Jersey several times and would much prefer the latter island. The staff are the Hotel are very efficient and friendly. The food is very basic with the specials board on the one night offering four different types of fish but no meat!! You would be hard pressed to find something different to eat if you were staying for a week. The desserts are very disappointing. There is a sun terrace and swimming pool. Breakfast is nothing special. Our room was very ostentatious with fabric walls but the bed was comfortable. The Hotel was overpriced and the food was very disappointing.

This is an excellent hotel. Room was superb very comfortable & quite spacious hair dryer in bathroom could have been better, perhaps the reason for the spare one in the wardrobe! . Food was amazing the two nights we chose to eat there. Service in restaurant couldn't be faulted. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

We visited the hotel for 4 nights in June 2015 before moving onto Sark. This was our first trip to the channel islands & we enjoyed our first stay in St Peters Port.
The good points of the Hotel are its staff, service is good & all the staff are very pleasant and go out of their way to make you happy. The hotel is very conveniently located about a 10 minute walk inland from the sea. Dont book the hotel if you are disabled in any way or not very fit, as it is a steep walk up from the Sea. I fell down the stairs on the first day (lift was full with two German tourists with 6 cases!) & badly twisted my ankle. The staff were very helpful, kind and considerate but I spent the next 4 days limping up and down the hill, so although usually very mobile found the hill a bit of a challenge on the way back. The food is OK, but the specials never changed and the menu is very limited. Sunday in town is like a ghost town, all the shops and most of the rstaurants do not open. Couldnt even find a chemist open to get some pain relief for my aching ankle. The hotel has a nice sun terrace & swimming pool, breakfast is ok but nothing special. We were there at a weekend when a Hen party group were in residence, butt they were lovely and very well behaved. Our room was a bit of a disappointment, fabric walls were different and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was cramped, poorly designed and the shower was very small. This is a well run hotel, but expensive for facilities it provides and the food lets it down as it is average at the best.

I booked a 3 night stay at the Duke of Richmond as a surprise for my wife's 60th birthday. Unfortunately we were a day late checking in due to poor weather in Guernsey which twice delayed our flight. Despite this the staff had laid on a wonderful surprise for my wife. Waiting for her in the room was a bottle of Champagne (I had to help her drink it) a card signed by many of the staff, and giant inflatable "60" balloons. The management also very generously waived the cost of the first night booked. These gestures greatly cheered us up as set us in the right mood to enjoy the rest of our stay.

The hotel lives up to its reputation completely and the service and friendliness of its staff, the cleanliness of our room and general areas, and the quality of food is outstanding. Its very good.

The hotel is located a short taxi drive from the centre of St Peters Port in a quiet leafy suburb overlooking the harbour.

We hope to visit this hotel again and enjoy all that it offers. Thanks again to the management and staff.

Having fancied a weekend away we decided to try Guernsey, searching the internet we found this hotel with a special offer 3 nights for 2, we booked a room with a balcony and breakfast included.

We arrived early and the room was ready, The bed was the biggest i have ever seen, very very comfortable, the room had a settee and an armchair, fridge and a massive balcony complete with a set of garden furniture and a pleasant view.Very clean a nice selection of bathroom accessories, turn down service in the evening.

Breakfast had a good selection of foods, from continental to kippers and a full breakfast, service was excellent, we did try the evening menu as well but i preferred the restaurant in the best western hotel (reviewed separately), would return again, good value for money, good location about 10 mins walk to town centre.

We stayed for 10days holiday, our first visit to Guernsey. We found the hotel had all the facilities we required, the staff were very helpful and friendly, attending to our every need. We only ate dinner in the hotel once as we like to try a variety of local eateries - guided by Trip Advisor of course - the one we did have was good.
Breakfasts were excellent, we usually took ours in the conservatory. Huge choice and cooked options really well done and cooked to order.
The pool was small which is OK but there was insufficient space to arrange the loungers I thought. It is an add on in a constricted site so probably as good an arrangement as could be achieved. The terrace was a lovely space for a drink or snack or just to read a book.
Our room was a bit on the small side I felt for the money. It was adequate and we'll equipped but lacked an interesting view. Other rooms had a (distant) sea view and some were larger with balconies. If staying there again, I'd go for a superior room. The showed was superb.

We live in North Devon, and are carers for my wife's 92 year old father, who lives with us, and had not had a holiday on our own for 6 years. Our wedding anniversary was in May, and my sister kindly volunteered to come and stay with father-in-law so that we could have a week away. So, we wanted somewhere peaceful, relaxing, within easy reach, and with good facilities.
We picked Guernsey, so that we could use the Exeter airport, and after using web and brochure recommendations, we selected the Duke of Richmond hotel as it seemed to offer all that we wanted, with an offer on staying a week, and had good reviews.
We had hired a car from the airport, so were able to go straight to the hotel ... well, by following a good map, we negotiated the various one-way streets successfully and arrived without any problems. We parked up in the adjacent car park and were greeted by hotel staff offering assistance with our luggage.
The reception area was spacious and cool, and well attended by friendly staff, and we immediately felt that we had made a good choice. We were expected, and our room was ready...and what a room! It was large enough to have a super-king size bed, plus a sofa and two armchairs. There was a message of welcome from the management, a good guide to hotel facilities, and a range of magazines.
The bed was crispy clean and comfortable, and the view from the window was across parkland to the sea. The bathroom was a good size and spotless (an essential for my wife!). There was tea/coffee making kit, and free WiFi (which a member of staff cheerfully set up on my wife's tablet).
But the thing that makes the Duke of Richmond stand out from other hotels we have used was the staff, particularly those in the Restaurant. All listened, noted any special requests, and never made a mistake. By day 2 our preferences had already been adopted (though checked) and we were really made to feel welcome. I know that most good hotels aim to achieve this, but few get it is "right" as the DoR, particularly across all levels of staff. Whether it was Restaurant shift manager, waiter or reception staff, you were made to feel important and that you needs were uppermost in their minds.
The only small niggle was the small car park. The hotel only has 5 spaces in it, so it is pot luck whether you get in or not. However, there was free parking available in the street (from 6pm to 8am) and we never had to park more than 10 spaces down from the hotel.
All in all, one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, which achieved our wish for a peaceful anniversary break. And the free bottle of fine wine that the hotel provided for our anniversary was just another demonstration of their competent attention to detail.
Would we go back? At the drop of a hat!

Stayed for 4 nights at the end of June 2015 and would definitely recommend this hotel. Our room was very clean , the food in the restaurant was very good ,especially the breakfast and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is situated in a quiet part of St. Peter Port but only a short walk to the centre of the town. Go in June and see all the beautiful flowers.

We stayed for four nights at the end of June.
The hotel is situated a short walk from the ferry terminal which is one of the reasons we chose it, you walk through pretty Candie Gardens to reach it. Our room, though small, had sea views, but no balcony. It was spotlessly clean, with a lovely modern bathroom. A safe, and tea/coffee making facilities are included. The decor of the hotel is possibly not to everyone's taste, but it seems to fit with the overall style of the hotel. The pool area looks good, sadly we didn't make time to use it.
Breakfast was excellent, twice we ate in the conservatory, and for two days we were able to eat it outside on the terrace. Like another reviewer we did have a short wait for a table one morning when the hotel was full, but it wasn't an issue, and they served us coffee while we waited. There were self service cereals, croissants, fruit, yoghurt etc, and hot food, cooked to order. I can't agree with a previous reviewer who claimed that quantities of cooked food were limited as it was waitress service, you could have as much as you wanted, staff were constantly offering to get you more. Our eggs were cooked perfectly each morning.
All the staff we met were charming, helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel is obviously aiming to achieve very high standards of customer service, and any request is met with ease.
I'd definitely go there again.
