First impressions outside is its HUGE!!! Inside the welcome was both knowledgeable and warm. This is a working Church and as well as an interlude for prayer held by the Chaplain there was a communion service held at the High Altar whilst we tourists made our way quietly around this historical monument, parts of which date back to 500 CE. The staff are knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being in the least intrusive. Some of the treasures including the Staffordshire Hoard, were on display and much work is being carried out to areas of the building needing upkeep, but none that made the visit any less worthwhile. The building oozes charm and ancient history as well as some modernity showing how the Church is more than just stones and pews but a living force in this part of middle England. The Chapter House with the Book of St Chad has to be seen and John, the volunteer, is both enthusiastic and well versed in the history of this amazing book.

A wonderful three spired pocket sized cathedral, free entry, donations only. When entering we were approached by a friendly guide who gave us a free guidebook and information sheet and then let us wander round this atmospheric building at our own pace. Fantastic!

The cathedral is absolutely stunning and well worth a visit if you are in Lichfield for one of the many fairs or events.
It is a beautiful example of a British cathedral on a par with York Minster (or not far off).

We were staying in the Peak District and on our way home decided to stop here. We visited the cathedral which was impressive. It has 3 spires which I hadn't seen before in other cathedrals.
It also holds the second oldest book in Britain which for any history geek (like myself) is fantastic to see. The staff there were very knowledgeable and the choir were practising so it was enjoyable to be there.
Free to enter, they just asked for donations which is fair.
Lovely place to visit as is the town of Lichfield.

The building is truely impressive and so much larger than it looks from the outside. The attendants are knowledgeable but unobtrusive.
The carvings and architecture are stunning and the stained glass windows add to the visual feast.

I'm far from a religious man, but the cathedral is a beautiful building. Very peaceful indeed. Probably the type of place you could take well behaved children and/or elderly relatives.

This cathedral is a huge structure with a very long history indeed, do take a camera - there is so much to see both outside and inside the cathedral - there must be 1000's of images of saints and figures and the historic flags of the Staffordshire Regiment plus seasonal displays of artefacts and of course a spectacular religious centre. One particularly interesting feature is the walk up the steeple - it is narrow in areas and there are many many stes some of which are in a tight staircase - so not for the faint hearted - but the views across the city from the top are amazing

A beautiful cathedral, from the minute you walk up to the front door, with the majestic figures looking down on you to when you step inside the front door. As you walk in you feel peace or around you and you marvel at the great columns and the beautiful stained glass windows. Although peaceful you feel as though the cathedral comes to life when there is a service. The acoustics of the choir and the organ fill it with music all around you. It is steeped in history and there is a book shop across the close where you can purchase further information about it's history.
It is the only medieval cathedral with three spires which can be seen all across Lichfield. It is built in Gothic architecture which gives it this marvellous appearance.
There is also a cafe across the close where you can purchase delicious home made cakes and lovely beverages to suit everyone.
A real treasure not to be missed if visiting Lichfield.

There are ,I was told by the brilliant guide in the cathedral ,42 and a half ,English cathedrals . I have sung in /visited in my 80 years 33 of them . Lichfield is my favourite visual treat of them all .i felt mentally tickled ,by the stunning Architecture ! My wife and I would never move from our West London home ,but, were we to do so, A house in the Cathedral close at Lichfield would fill the bill. There are four hundred ,FOUR hundred volunteers who keep the Cathedral looking absolutely pristine . As an ' old Soldier ' , I was struck by the fact that every brass memorial was bright ,as if polished today . As a Friend of the British Museum , I have recently visited the Celtic exhibition , so was incredibly excited by the treasures in the Cathedral Chapter House .. ! My joy was increased by the intelligent answers and the profound knowledge of the Cathedral Guides . My wife was working today ,so I look forward to bringing her to see Lichfield Cathedral in the very near future .. The journey from Euston to Lichfield station return cost me less than two packets of cigarettes .. ( and I do not smoke ! ) so, grab your chance and visit this extra-ordinary English gem

Magnificent cathedral, full of history. Do visit the Cathedral Shop opposite, where for a pound you can buy a sheet of information about the statues which adorn the West Front (there are 113 in all)

Called when it was quiet and the staff on duty were very friendly helpful and informative. This would be a fabulous place to visit on a warm day when you have plenty of time to explore all the interior and exterior. Fascinating architecture and history , though much is as expected , guessed from artefacts found, many of which cannot be dated

Nice stone work, very friendly staff. Comfortable seats. A loud American citizen ruined my visit a little bit by repeating "wow" at every turn.
